No, Momo's rage in this clip was all because of how poorly the zoo staff performed his intake right before this. The staff agitated him with how harsh and slowly they escorted his cage into the facility. You can watch the video for yourself. It's posted on TH-cam now. They were running power tools on the outside of his container for some reason. Soon as they let him out he tried breaking through the glass to attack the staff. He was pissed and aggressive by the time he finally entered the enclosure that day.

@@RuthPreach Honestly, having seen a few cohabitations in different troops, Momotaro was considerably gentle compared to other silverbacks. He's bark and no bite-literally. When you see him pinning her down, you can see he's not using his teeth to hurt her, but rather to "tickle" her by rubbing them in her fur. His intention isn't to harm, but to assert himself and test whether she's a friend or foe. Furthermore, Momotaro lead an incredibly sheltered life prior to meeting Genki. Genki "selected" him as her mate via prerecorded footage that the zoo cycled for her like a bachelor reel, while Momotaro had no idea of her existence. While she was clearly interested in him, Momotaro must have been terrified in a new enclosure with an unfamiliar gorilla, even if she was only half his size. Keeping him separated from Gentaro wasn't due to his behavior, either, but because Gentaro had been isolated from him for so long that the keepers knew Momotaro wouldn't recognize him. Silverbacks are naturally aggressive toward unfamiliar infants, and will often kill them even in the wild. It was best to stay on the side of caution when reintroducing Gentaro to the troop. As for Kintaro, there was no danger, and Momotaro spent plenty of time with him since there was no confusion of his origins.

Isnt interesting Gentaro is older now (in 2023 he is now 12) than Momotaro was in this footage but isnt even nearly as developed as Momotaro or ready for a troop of his own, Momotaro was only 10 yet WHAT A MAN, WHAT AN AMAZING SILVERBACK, he was made to lead. And Genki, there isnt much i can say that ive not already said about her, she is just beautiful in every way, i adore her. MOMOTARO FAMILY ❤❤❤❤
Momotaro's father Biju passed away before he was born. He spent his entire youth with his mother, Momoko who has a 1 year old daughter Sumomo who resembles Kintaro and developed quickly and was a healthy masculine gorilla at a young age. Big and stocky baby.
It's a semi known fact that in the animal kingdom, the presence of a male slows down development as the animal can take more time to mature. And they develop faster when there is not so they can fill the role of the male.
I read after Gentaro mates for the first time then he will sprout I guess it is like coming of age They say his mane will appear and his coloring will change .
@@myrtleborodziuk7163 no if you look it up he never mated before, Genki had to teach him what to do, she use to bounce her butt up and down to get him to know what to do! He wasn't around any mating males to know what to do!
It's awesome to see how much Momotaro has grown into a fine partner to Genki and father to the boys. Now when he sees Gentaro being abusive to Genki he protects her. He'll teach Gentaro how to be a good Silverback.🦍
I've been Watching Momotaro Family Videos from While. But This is First Time I Watched Momotaro Drumming. 😍👌💜 He's Very Peaceful Dad of Two Sons Now. Genki is So Nice As Mother I as I watch their videos.
Wow the old old gorrila house was way better . Not saying that the new ones bad , one thing I like about the new one is that it is tall and has a lot of space . It only lacks vegetation . If anyone who works at kyoto zoo is reading this , please try to add more vegetation to the new gorrila house .
If you've seen one video where Gentaro pulled out from the ground a newly planted tree and dragged it all around their enclosure, you'll understand the lack of vegetation in there. 😆
The most important for primates is the complexity of the enclosure, with a lot of elements, not the space. I think the one they have now, with different highs etc.. is ok.
@@e8834j I was watching that last week and it's laughing. I thought at first it was some branches that they had placed inside greenery which they do with the food to make it more incentive foraging. But then I saw what he was doing and I thought well there goes another tree! 😂
It's BOTH Kinkin & Gentaro who destroy plants as quickly as they were planted. Those plants were donated by public who responded to the plea from the zoo who was trying to green-nize (I made up this word) the enclosure with no budget for it. I've seen so many of those vids. Well, even the entire family quickly eat them up depending on kind of plants planted. Lately, there seem to be more green in outdoor enclosure, I wonder how they're surviving ??🤔 Well, people, STOP PESTERING Kyoto zoo for this & that because the zoo has been in a survival mode for some time now due to the financial crisis, they have even feeding the animals with donated food, also. Before you make any more critical comments, send some donation by International money order, maybe, to the zoo. You can find the address by Google. OR ELSE, STOP COMPLAINING!!! THEY ARE DOING THEIR BEST THEY CAN, SO, THEY DON'T DESERVE YOUR NEGATIVE COMMENTS !!!!😤
I feel so bad for Genki! Being that she had such a traumatic past with being attacked by other gorillas and finally getting to meet her crush and the first thing he does to her is brutally attacks her! I understand that he wanted to exert his dominance but she submitted as soon as he approached her but he kept attacking her.Genki is so strong! That is why I love her so much! She fought his ass back and he found out that it didnt feel good to be on the other end of bites ad scratches!She didnt hold a grudge and went on to teach him how to mate even though he never consistently caught on to the mechanics of it all!
Yes! He only had his mother so I thought O he will be thrilled with Genki. But he was freaking out too. Being in a new environment and being with a female who’s not his mom! But Genki fought back! I love her even more now!
Yes Genki is a great, strong independent female Gorilla 💪🏻 and I would always say this that her 2 kids are a blessing 🥰 She really love them and Im glad they got her back. It's so sad that she can't produce milk to Gentaro for a year and didn't really took care of him but having kintaro makes her done her duty as a mom fully & happily. She don't get lonely when her kids around 💜 Hopefully she will get a new baby soon 🤗
It was all because of how poorly the zoo staff admitted him, and inserted him into the enclosure right before this. The staff agitated him with how harsh, slow, and unstable they were handling his cage when escorting him into the facility. You can watch the video for yourself. It's posted on TH-cam now. Momotaro was so infuriated that the first thing he did upon entering the enclosure was turn to face them; roar loudly and angrily; and violently hurtle himself against the glass in the hopes of shattering it so that he could attack them. Frankly, they deserved his wrath. They pissed him off immensely with how roughly they escorted him into the paddock. They were so unprofessional during the admittance process that they were stupidly using power tools on his cage and ramp while they were in the actual process of wheeling him off the truck because they were so unprepared and uncoordinated. Of course a silverback would be enraged after enduring this! He was given a painstakingly slow, bumpy ride through the facility while trapped inside a small steel box that zoo staff were simultaneously operating power tools on.
Momotaro saying, "y'all please get me away from this crazy 🤬 woman" 😂🤣 Genki saying, " we are gonna bleed together. Matching rings or matching wounds"🤣
Theres no way that Momotaro is only 10 years old in this video!!!! I understand he was born in 2000 and this was filmed in 2010, but momotaro sure doesn't look like Gentaro at 10. Look at the size of Momo!!!! He's massive!!

Momo was 11. He matured early because there wasn’t a silverback in his troop. Gentaro hasn’t matured because he is with another silverback. Another silverback actually delays maturity.
The sweetest part to me was about 5:30 he sees that she was crying and he wiped a few of her tears from her face. Then later Momo has second thoughts about her when she first fights him back and gave his a couple of wounds to give him something to think about.
Wow! It was exhausting for both! Then they had to take care of their war wounds! Momo got pretty pissed when he was banging on the grated window! As if to say, I'm done with this out here! Let me in! I got hurt, my foot and my side!! Well that's what aggregation produces! Bless Genki for teaching him! Amazing she is! It's a wonder they had Gentaro!! Her persistence paid off! Just today, before this video, I was wondering what he was doing to become a silverback at such a young age. What was the troop he was in this is so unusual. But he is beautiful. And they are good family.
@@NaomiCurtis I read another comment that’s said since he had no father around & then was away from his mother that naturally he skipped the black back stage & matured faster & that since Gentaro is with his mother it’s natural that gorillas maturity is suppressed . Can’t say it’s 100% facts but sounds reasonable & is very interesting, as if so I wonder what other effects it had on MoMo or if it could negatively effect gentaro being a dom silver back
I love this video. Amazing! Their enclosure was so beautiful. What happened? It's not anything like the jungle where they come from. Where they are right now is really sad. Not pretty at all.

Wonderful of you to share this again! Momo appeared totally shocked when this strange female-so submissive at first, head down, not making a peep-turns on him and bites him back. He examines himself, over and over, dumbfounded! Good girl, Genki! Between them, their nerves left poop wall to wall. What a love story! More than the biting, which didn’t seem too fierce to me, was my concern about his pulling her (2:45) on top of that round protrusion in the floor, placing his foot on the small of her back, and rolling most of his weight onto it. If that had been me and I had still been able walk, I would have screamed bloody murder right in his ear and kicked him in the you know whats! I’m so glad Genki was wise and collected-we didn’t need dear Momo deaf and unable to father two fine sons.
Is he trying to show her how big and strong he is and that he would be a good protector?I guess her going after him was telling him to stop being so rough, although I didn't see him really hurting her. She got a few good bites on him it looks like.
Crazy to win as of this date (October 2022) Gentaro is older now than what Momotaro is on here. Him and Haoko were silverbacks at 9. Actually Haoko was was silver back at 8 believe it or not

I'm so glad to finally see this meet and greet. Genki's love, ❤after seeing him via video she finally meets her love. I'm soooooo happppyyy, Momotaro took to her. 🖤 She finally found her home.
To think Momotaro was only 10 years old then. Younger than Gentaro is now (he will be 13 this year). I think that’s the only time I’ve seen him drum. He never drums anymore. You can tell they were both happy to have each other there and liked each other right away. I’m sure about Momo but Genki had been alone for many years at that stage ❤ Funny story: The zoo played videos of Momotaro for Genki before he arrived. If you do a search you may find the ones of her watching videos of him ‘The Momotaro Show’ 😂 (that’s not what the video is called just what I’ve called it. I can’t remember which channel, sorry.)
I just found Momotaro's and Genki's family. I love watching how it all started. Genki had enough of his posturing and put him in his place. 😄 It would be nice to see a video of how their relationship developed. They are a very successful family.
He doesn't seem to do it much now years later..I wonder if he feels content..still alert but no feeling the need to show off? I think shabani and kyiomasa plus Ai drum a bit to each other. I see it as a sort of I'm annoyed . Kintaro drums especially when he was a bit younger😊❤
I've been watching videos now for a year of Ms. Genki & Mr. Momotaro and was wondering if there are any video if the boys being born? This is so neat that these video are out of the two finally meeting and then mating. How wonderful this is.
There is one Genki giving birth to Gentaro. The moment he laid in the straw (she was standing, on all four paws if I remember correctly),;she JUMPED! with a huge hop like a metal sprung around and looked at him. That was cute. I hunk there is a piece of it in that wonderful 'fan video' about her life; there you see her as a baby too. She was so sweet.
Love this new beginnings from the 1st video of their meeting to the birth of both boys and the struggles they went thru to build their family. Not tho mention the antics of these growing boys, love them all. Hope they add a lil girl to their family but I'm not sure Genki is to old, how old are they when they are unable to produce or want to stop, im sure its a family thing, but could another female be introduced into the mix or would that coz problems, anyway love love the Monotoro family❤❤💕thanks for sharing, made me realize gorillas are a complicated species. I've been Watching Momotaro Family Videos from While. But This is First Time I Watched Momotaro Drumming. 😍👌💜 He's Very Peaceful Dad of Two Sons Now. Genki is So Nice As Mother I as I watch their videos.

Wow the old old gorrila house was way better . Not saying that the new ones bad , one thing I like about the new one is that it is tall and has a lot of space . It only lacks vegetation . If anyone who works at kyoto zoo is reading this , please try to add more vegetation to the new gorrila house .
If you've seen one video where Gentaro pulled out from the ground a newly planted tree and dragged it all around their enclosure, you'll understand the lack of vegetation in there. 😆
The most important for primates is the complexity of the enclosure, with a lot of elements, not the space. I think the one they have now, with different highs etc.. is ok.

@@e8834j I was watching that last week and it's laughing. I thought at first it was some branches that they had placed inside greenery which they do with the food to make it more incentive foraging. But then I saw what he was doing and I thought well there goes another tree! 😂
It's BOTH Kinkin & Gentaro who destroy plants as quickly as they were planted. Those plants were donated by public who responded to the plea from the zoo who was trying to green-nize (I made up this word) the enclosure with no budget for it. I've seen so many of those vids. Well, even the entire family quickly eat them up depending on kind of plants planted.
Lately, there seem to be more green in outdoor enclosure, I wonder how they're surviving ??🤔
Well, people, STOP PESTERING Kyoto zoo for this & that because the zoo has been in a survival mode for some time now due to the financial crisis, they have even feeding the animals with donated food, also.

I feel so bad for Genki! Being that she had such a traumatic past with being attacked by other gorillas and finally getting to meet her crush and the first thing he does to her is brutally attacks her! I understand that he wanted to exert his dominance but she submitted as soon as he approached her but he kept attacking her.Genki is so strong! That is why I love her so much! She fought his ass back and he found out that it didnt feel good to be on the other end of bites ad scratches!She didnt hold a grudge and went on to teach him how to mate even though he never consistently caught on to the mechanics of it all!
Yes! He only had his mother so I thought O he will be thrilled with Genki. But he was freaking out too. Being in a new environment and being with a female who’s not his mom! But Genki fought back! I love her even more now!
Yes Genki is a great, strong independent female Gorilla 💪🏻 and I would always say this that her 2 kids are a blessing 🥰 She really love them and Im glad they got her back. It's so sad that she can't produce milk to Gentaro for a year and didn't really took care of him but having kintaro makes her done her duty as a mom fully & happily. She don't get lonely when her kids around 💜 Hopefully she will get a new baby soon 🤗

It’s the Gorilla way and it’s a bit different than most humans do it.
It was all because of how poorly the zoo staff admitted him, and inserted him into the enclosure right before this. The staff agitated him with how harsh, slow, and unstable they were handling his cage when escorting him into the facility. You can watch the video for yourself. It's posted on TH-cam now. Momotaro was so infuriated that the first thing he did upon entering the enclosure was turn to face them; roar loudly and angrily; and violently hurtle himself against the glass in the hopes of shattering it so that he could attack them.
Frankly, they deserved his wrath. They pissed him off immensely with how roughly they escorted him into the paddock. They were so unprofessional during the admittance process that they were stupidly using power tools on his cage and ramp while they were in the actual process of wheeling him off the truck because they were so unprepared and uncoordinated.
Of course a silverback would be enraged after enduring this! He was given a painstakingly slow, bumpy ride through the facility while trapped inside a small steel box that zoo staff were simultaneously operating power tools on.
Momotaro saying, "y'all please get me away from this crazy 🤬 woman" 😂🤣 Genki saying, " we are gonna bleed together. Matching rings or matching wounds"🤣

Theres no way that Momotaro is only 10 years old in this video!!!! I understand he was born in 2000 and this was filmed in 2010, but momotaro sure doesn't look like Gentaro at 10. Look at the size of Momo!!!! He's massive!!

Momo was 11. He matured early because there wasn’t a silverback in his troop. Gentaro hasn’t matured because he is with another silverback. Another silverback actually delays maturity.

The sweetest part to me was about 5:30 he sees that she was crying and he wiped a few of her tears from her face. Then later Momo has second thoughts about her when she first fights him back and gave his a couple of wounds to give him something to think about.

Can’t say it’s 100% facts but sounds reasonable & is very interesting, as if so I wonder what other effects it had on MoMo or if it could negatively effect gentaro being a dom silver back

Wonderful of you to share this again! Momo appeared totally shocked when this strange female-so submissive at first, head down, not making a peep-turns on him and bites him back. He examines himself, over and over, dumbfounded! Good girl, Genki! Between them, their nerves left poop wall to wall. What a love story!
More than the biting, which didn’t seem too fierce to me, was my concern about his pulling her (2:45) on top of that round protrusion in the floor, placing his foot on the small of her back, and rolling most of his weight onto it. If that had been me and I had still been able walk, I would have screamed bloody murder right in his ear and kicked him in the you know whats! I’m so glad Genki was wise and collected-we didn’t need dear Momo deaf and unable to father two fine sons.

To think Momotaro was only 10 years old then. Younger than Gentaro is now (he will be 13 this year). I think that’s the only time I’ve seen him drum. He never drums anymore. You can tell they were both happy to have each other there and liked each other right away. I’m sure about Momo but Genki had been alone for many years at that stage ❤
Funny story: The zoo played videos of Momotaro for Genki before he arrived. If you do a search you may find the ones of her watching videos of him ‘The Momotaro Show’ 😂 (that’s not what the video is called just what I’ve called it. I can’t remember which channel, sorry.)
I just found Momotaro's and Genki's family. I love watching how it all started. Genki had enough of his posturing and put him in his place. 😄 It would be nice to see a video of how their relationship developed. They are a very successful family.

He doesn't seem to do it much now years later..I wonder if he feels content..still alert but no feeling the need to show off? I think shabani and kyiomasa plus Ai drum a bit to each other. I see it as a sort of I'm annoyed . Kintaro drums especially when he was a bit younger😊❤
I've been watching videos now for a year of Ms. Genki & Mr. Momotaro and was wondering if there are any video if the boys being born? This is so neat that these video are out of the two finally meeting and then mating. How wonderful this is.
There is one Genki giving birth to Gentaro. The moment he laid in the straw (she was standing, on all four paws if I remember correctly),;she JUMPED! with a huge hop like a metal sprung around and looked at him. That was cute. I hunk there is a piece of it in that wonderful 'fan video' about her life; there you see her as a baby too. She was so sweet.

Love this new beginnings from the 1st video of their meeting to the birth of both boys and the struggles they went thru to build their family. Not tho mention the antics of these growing boys, love them all. Hope they add a lil girl to their family but I'm not sure Genki is to old, how old are they when they are unable to produce or want to stop, im sure its a family thing, but could another female be introduced into the mix or would that coz problems, anyway love love the Monotoro family❤❤💕thanks for sharing, made me realize gorillas are a complicated species.
