RIGGS IS CURED! HE CAN NOW HIT DRIVER!

  • The summer is coming which means it's FITTING SEASON.
Riggs is a 4 handicap golfer, member of the ForePlay crew and for those who follow it's a well known fact that he struggles (like many) with the Driver. Today we work through his TaylorMade Qi10 fitting and discuss what he should be focussing on to improve his driving game so it can align with his expectations as a player.
Golf ball proves to be important as always and is our first check point before moving into alignment and his whole approach to hitting the driver. Riggs is a fun guy who plays golf for a certain set of reasons and it's clear from the way he talks about his driving game that this facet doesn't match his values.
We discuss how to bring this void closer and what he can do both technically and mentally to start seeing better results off the tee and ultimately look forward to hitting what should be one of your favorite clubs.
As always thanks to Riggs for his honesty and for allowing the camera to roll. All the links below lead to great things:

Imagine your swing on camera. But, it is what it is. I dont think he’s a 5 or 6. He’s probably an 8. And that’s generous. But, he knows how to play. He’s proven that on camera with many videos. Good video, but it's such an anachronism for fitters to speak as if a golf ball (or any sphere) was able to spin in two directions at the same time. There is no "backspin and sidespin" as separate values. And it's not even useful to think that way. There's a spin number, and a spin axis. If a player is already spinning the ball enough to keep it on a stable trajectory, and their spin axis is causing deviation to right or left, adding spin will increase those forces and increase L/R dispersion. You can't somehow magically add ONLY backspin and make it go straighter. On the other hand if the golfer's spin axis is within proper L/R variance (more vertically oriented) the yes adding more total spin will tighten up trajectory and reduce variance in dispersion.

Handicap. Is. Not. Your. Average. Score. Idk why that’s so hard for people to understand. If you shoot 90 ten times in a row and then get on a heater and shoot 76-76 then you’re a 4 handicap. 4 handicaps are rarely breaking 80. It’s a measurement of your potential of your best possible rounds. It is NOT. YOUR. AVERAGE. SCORE.

You need to have 8 scores in your last 20 that average you a 4 hcp, the other 12 in there can be 110 and you are still a 4. Although Riggs never shoots these mid 70’s we all know this. He is a 4 handicap or better at his shortgame though. Also some allogations of him editing shoots out to make him look better in some individual clips

Riggs being a 4 is hilarious. He lost to a 12 in his first “play a hater” match. I’m an 11 and would play him straight up.

4 handicap right now? Definitely not. But, he’s definitely got the short game to legitimately get to that or probably even be a scratch golfer. Working on the driver for him is definitely the best route to get there. The rest of us (including myself) should be working on our short game a little more instead of trying to let the big dog eat at the range all the time.

Anyone else notice that Riggs hasn’t done that god awful “drag takeaway” with driver once.

Either Riggs got some driver swing lessons or needs to swing like this in videos. He gets a lot of flack (even from me) but his swing is so ugly in other videos. This is a good swing

Why with all the time Riggs has on his hands that he hasn't undergone a full swing reconstruction is beyond me. No matter what slight improvements he makes, he will be a limited golfer with that horrific swing.

“So I shoot mid 70s when there isn’t any proof, but as soon as I have friends or a camera there, I shoot high 80s. I also have only pured one out of the first 9 shots here, but that’s bc there’s a camera”
This dude seems too caught up in trying to impress others. There’s nothing embarrassing about shooting under 90

The Riggs haters are the guys who have never played the game at the level of a low single digit or scratch handicap. Scratch golf isn’t pretty - riggs has solid short game, minimizes his mistakes around the green from what I’ve seen - and you have to imagine that when he is playing loose and the ball striking is even remotely decent he scores well. Anyone who has played the game at a high level can believe he is a 4 hcp. With that being said, given the resources he has… he should be better. Oh well, the game is hard.

I've been scratch (at a course I played literally thousands of times), no way to believe Riggs is a legit 4 if you've been watching fore play content for years. Not a Riggs hater btw, have watched a ton of their content on the course and podcasts.

  • @Golf_Hack

His driver stinks because his hands get behind the club head on his takeaway. It’s like his wrists are made of wet noodles. He wrists get behind and he drags the club head behind like it’s a rock on a rope. He needs to start with the driver not touching the ground and that might be an easy fix for him. What’s strange is he generally hits his irons pretty well. And has a great short game.

Understand it’s a content game-the reality scripting of Riggs and all he is produced to be for content somewhat degrades the game we love for it’s true from.
Keep doing what your doing if it gets views and subs-it just won’t be me going forward
    Stay true my freind
