My top 5: Vista, Grime, 6-Star, Rio, Greece It's ironic how the classic maps were simultaneously the biggest selling point and the biggest weakness of this game. That might sound like a wild take, but is shared by most of the competitive community.
Definitely look forward more to playing MW3 maps over the remade MW2 ones. 3-lane maps just tend to fit the flow and feel of MW3 better than the non-linear structure of MW2 maps. Though to be fair, as Ace pointed out, quite a few of the MW2 maps are at least more tolerable in MW3 compared to MW2 (both OG and 2022's).
@@Kuriketto Yup. When people talk about nostalgia towards the golden era of CoD, only a handful of these maps are talked about positively. Hindsight is 20/20, but it makes no sense to me that they brought every single map. People wanted MW2 remastered, not Rundown and Derail remastered. They just killed the nostalgia by bringing back maps without the gameplay.
I completely agree. Aside from Skidrow and Scrapyard (which are amazing), in general I enjoyed this game's original maps and the MW2 2022 caryover maps more than the classic MW2 maps.
@@calamelli209 high rise was solid too. When you go back to the older maps, you realize just how much camping spots there are. People were more casual back then and didnt abuse camping as much.
@Arctic3OD Gameplay is looked back with nostalgia to. MW2 2009 was broken and easily exploited. They ported over the maps into a new existing games to avoid having to fix all the issues with the original game, while still meeting the MW2 nostalgia people have. There were annoyances with CoD 4 and WaW. 3x frags, martyrdom, MP40, but MW2 took it to another level. Death streaks, One Man Army/Danger Close grenade launchers, a lot of glitches. I don't believe most people would enjoy playing something so unbalanced and hectic today.
They did GW dirty. I was hoping this season had at least one more. MW19 currently has a good portion of their maps removed. I guess that only leaves MW2 to have the most maps.
Meat should be Sledgehammer’s definitive small map if you ask me. Their Nuketown. I might even enjoy it more than Nuketown. It feels like a perfect asymmetrical small map.
100% agree. Also so sick and tired of Shipment. I can't stand it after its been done to death. Would love to have more variety and only a few small maps like the old days instead of so many freaking small maps
I realised that a bit into the game as well, that I was missing a lot of maps because I was just playing 10v10 which didn't include, even some larger and medium sized maps unfortunately
I play TDM primarily. Spawns were awful this year. I stopped running care package because a random enemy spawn near our spawn always had a chance to steal my streak. Hope BO6 fixes it.
For me it's the opposite. I'd love to see a playlist with only the new MW3 maps and the carryover maps from MW2 2022. Maybe they could do a rotation between the two every other week so both of us get what we want.
Same, I had the most fun with MWIII at release because 90% of the maps were S- or A-Tier for me. After that, they mostly released mediocre maps. Grimes and Tanked were nice but I honestly disliked the rest. I'd really appreciate a permanent og MW2 map 6v6 playlist. Estate, Rundown and Underpass are my favourite maps by far but they're never in rotation or outvoted by the alternative.

I know the community wasn't fond of map variants. But I always wished that they would happen more especially when maps got remade. (Like what happened with Das Haus and Growhouse in this very game.) I hope when maps get remade in BO6 they are aesthetically completely different from the original version.
Variants are cool, kind of annoying when you got the same map and a variant to vote tho. Also the only problem I have with it, is when we get variants instead of new maps
I don't dislike variants, it's when it and the same original are alongside each other. I just think fondly of like, BO2 and Ghosts brought back some nice classics, and made them feel unique. This game had some cool variants of existing maps, but it often felt like they were there to not have to add straight up new maps or bring back different old ones, on top of the period of time where it was annoying to play some because the normal and variant effectively doubled or tripled odds of showing up compared to others having only the normal for more regular playlists. Like even this season with the five extra shipments situation, just feels whack random decision, and a good couple could have existed earlier in the game's life.
I like how BO4 did variants personally. Not all of them were good (Jungle ahem) but they were a bit different. As long as they're not dropping them as one of the DLC maps, I'm fine with it. They should be random drops that don't interfere with the regular content drops
Shipment is trash. They should keep it out of regular rotation. All the small maps should get their own playlist like how Cold War did it, all the face off maps had a playlist of their own
I say keep the small-medium maps like Shoot House in the standard rotation, but the tiny meat grinder maps like Shipment, Rust, and Meat should be isolated to their own playlist and kept out of the standard rotation.
I’ve been a massive fan of shipment because of the chaos. Yes, the concept of spawning and dying a second later over and over isn’t fun and gets boring, but when I want super high paced games, Shipment is there for me, and it’s pretty much the only map I’ve played on since Vanguard. Honestly I feel that every CoD should have 3 main playlists. Standard rotation with all the maps without shipment, small map playlists without shipment, then finally, the Shipment or Nuketown 24/7 playlist. So regardless of your play styles, there’s something for you. A classic playlist, a fast paced playlist or a complete chaos playlist for the laughs, or to knock out challenges super quickly
It's a pity Crown Raceway got stuck in development hell. T'was the MWII map I was looking forward to playing the most with proper game mechanics. Built for flanking, hampered by not being able to flank for 50% of the game time in MWII, and then never got to play in MWIII in the end. Probably why Farm 18 is the one we think of the fondest in this game as 'playing better', because its the one we've actually been able to play the most.
Meat is IMO maybe the best small map we've ever had, something about it just flows so damn well. I'd put it in S-tier solely because it's probably the only mini-small map that I genuinely enjoy playing haha
Drive thru and high rise at S has to be nostalgia. Long sniper lanes, bad spawn flips, little reason for enemies to move out of head glitches half the time (for high rise A and C flag are in the spawn, with head glitches to watch B flag literally right there too). Just boring and campy, and i grew up with the original MW2 so i have plenty of nostalgia for them and still hate how they play in this game
@@cutthroat795different strokes for different folks. I mainly use MP to grind guns and challenges for warzone so I really enjoy shipment 24/7 and whatnot. I can just turn off my brain, turn on the tunes, and spam decoy away
Maybe it's partly because I skipped MW2 2022 and don't have any burnout of the maps from that game, but Farm 18 is an S-tier map for me. It's fun, it's balanced, and I love playing on it no matter what game mode and no matter what weapon I'm using. On the other hand, I'm not nearly as big of a fan of Terminal as other people are, so I would drop it down to B tier. Aside from swapping those two, I basically agree with all of your placements.
Finally, a fellow terminal hater I mean it's not bad but it's nowhere near as good as people say - the plane camping, roof top beamers and spawn head glitchers
This iteration of Terminal was ruined by spawns and exploits. That being said, long range maps tend to always age poorly as aiming is much more precise today.
@@OP-DOUBLE-U I don't "hate" terminal. Like I said, I think it's still solidly B-tier and I like it more than I dislike it. But it's definitely not as amazing as most people say it is, at least in my opinion.
It sucks in snd because the faster movement speed. The faster sprint has changed the way many of the classic maps played. Sub Base slightly worse as well in mw3 than in the original mw2 because its not as balanced between the attack and defense.
I'm a bit disappointed they never just dropped every MWII map into MWIII (especially the ground war maps, it's crazy we've been stuck with the same three since launch). We could have had an insane amount of maps and a ton of variety with over 40 maps to chose from.
Most maps here in MW3 even post launch are either pretty good to S Tier like 6 Star. Truly they cooked something Special with that map. Though although visibility is a valid criticism when talking about Growhouse it is abit better of a map than you make it out to be. I would swap Breenburg Hotel for Mercado and put Emergency wayy lower.
Sub base, Karachi and Quarry are top tier big maps for me. I would definetely put those A+. Although you should know that I played the original maps in Mw2 and I am a bit biased, but I also believe that in this game they play even better because of the faster paced gameplay. I generally prefer medium-large maps, cause I enjoy more playing in maps that require more gamesense. Specifically, in such maps you have more opportunities to flank (avoiding spawntraps) and predict the spawns. In other words, less chaos more strategy and intuition.
Personally, I hate Terminal on any mode. And as someone who primarily plays Control, Demolition, and Cyber Attack, I hate Scrapyard as well. You either get spawntrapped as defense or attackers just can't break through defense's spawn.
The issue with terminal is tarmac is just inferior to the airport side, as there are only 3 ways up, but you can come down from the whole crosslane glass windows. Would play much better in a jetpack CoD.
Yeah I don't understand why they made checkpoint, even as a rebirth player. They took the worst part of rebirth, made it worse, and then put the spawns sideways ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Maybe hot take but imo terminal & highrise are overrated AF. Terminal is so lopsided with spawns & flags and highrise is fine sometimes but when there's more than maybe 1 sniper/camper you just can't go outside and ruins it
Terminal plays so bad in this game, just snipers camping their spawn, pre aiming those tight lanes. Definitely C tier for me, even though I liked it back in 2009
People play based on how maps are designed. So if a vast majority of players who play the map participate in super noninteractive and passive gameplay, hate to say it, but that means the map's design is dog ass.
I’m with you at this point on not vibing with super small maps BUT damn I love das haus WAYY to much to not have it S for me personally, loved it even in vanguard
I'd demote Tokyo to either C or D tier, mainly because if the other team locks down a lane its pretty hard to dig them out of there due to a lack of flanking routes.
I don’t disagree w anything on this list besides rust. I personally enjoy rust. I also love 6-star and Greece. I really hope to see some of these original maps in future cods. Sledgehammer did a great job this year
Hey Ace! Love your list and I’ll leave my own list below for you or anyone else interested but first I have a video idea if you’re interested or think it would be a good topic: For weapon challenges, one of them is “kill 10 enemies affected by a tactical grenade” and I got to thinking how that one doesn’t make much sense because some tacticals don’t “affect” the player in the way a stun or flash do, so I was wondering if you would be interested in examining exactly which tacticals work or don’t work and what those radiuses might look like for effective range? Anyways my maps are as follows, mix of modes: S Tier - Highrise A Tier - 6 Star, Checkpoint, Quarry, Breenburgh Hotel, Karachi, Incline, Sub Base, Skid Row, Terminal B Tier - Afghan, Dome, Departures, Mercado Las Almas, Scrapyard, Farm 18, Shipment, Grime, Paris, Yard, Underpass, G3t High C Tier - Crown Raceway, Greece, Meat, Emergency, Tanked, Tokyo, Rio D Tier - Bait, Derail, Rust, Shoot House, Favela, Invasion, Estate, Wasteland, Vista F Tier - Das Haus, Growhouse, Rundown, Stash House Have not yet played the Drive Thru map so I can’t comment on it as I took a long break from MWIII. My D and F tier maps, if they could never make maps like those again that would be great. C tier should be the worst a map can be design/size wise. B tier are maps I think are solid but not particularly memorable or could be better but are categorically NOT bad. A tier are maps that are awesome and I enjoy playing and will generally vote for over other maps. Might have a feature or lane on them I think could be better but overall play well and are genuinely fun, interesting, and memorable. S tier is a very rare category, and High Rise barely makes the cut and that is only because of how interesting the map is. Between the areas you can climb up to, the underground/lower areas you can flank through, the challenging navigation in the center. Just something about this map plays very well regardless of what game it shows up in and has absolutely stood the test of time. And this list should show you why I’m less than thrilled about the map section in the BO6 beta because most of what was on offer plays a lot closer to my D and F tier maps. But they that’s just my opinion, but I’ve played CoD since 2009 so I like to think I know my way around a map and I hope lists like these can give Activision some idea of what people like or don’t like on average.
The three main changes I would make is put derail in c because it’s actually good in objective modes, tank into a since it was the perfect balance of space for me and my favourite location in dmz, and put wasteland in B because I enjoy the flow and combat it promotes
Domination is never my main mode, though I definitely enjoy it. Personally like to mix things up of standard moshpit of tdm, domination, hardpoint, kill confirmed, but also enjoy other extra modes like infection for example. I can understand your list, your opinions, pretty nice list overall. Personally, 6 Star and Meat are a couple of favourites of mine. And I don't mind tiny maps, but shipment definitely not high for me, enjoyed Stash House and Get High much more. 6v6 fair enough, but I did quite enjoy Derail for bigger team modes.
Wastleland will always be C teir to me. It was B teir originally for me but because MW3 got a bit slower the action is almost non existent. But this is the snipers dream map. It just needs some love design-wise.
Because of how much I played small maps in the recent games, I rank the Invasion, Underpass, and Estate higher. I got so tired of playing shipment and small maps, that I branched out to the bigger maps for camo grinding
Been playing this game all year switching between 6v6 Dom and resurgence and can't even remember some of these maps... The voice telling you to put 6star up at the end just wanted a perfect Gauss curve 😊
Meat is my favourite small map. It is not aa small and it just flows so good. Everything about the map is awesome and it helped me unlock interstellar during its launch
Man I already have nostalgia for MWIII and BO6 hasn't even released yet. It was a great year and loved the launch and played S1 and S2 A LOT. Still played all year quite a bit but the first seasons and launch were an amazing time with so many great games with friends. We all loved to play the classic MW2 maps again as well. I do feel the aesthetics of some of the MW2 remakes are worse than the originals in details and atmosphere. Especially maps like Estate and Rundown for example.
I generally agree with your list, although I will say that I never feel like there's this many maps in the game because of the variants. I don't understand arbitrarily removing some maps from certain game modes, just to add two or three versions of a different map. Between that and the returning mwii maps (even though I really liked those maps), the map rotation started to feel very stale to me for the past two seasons. Outside of new map specific playlists, I think I've only played grime once or twice, and I've never played get high.
Overall, some great maps from MWIII. Think the MW2 maps rly helped to give it a solid foundation, even if only a handful of them actually played rly well.
Ace, how would you personally rank your S tier maps from 1-5? Love the list and almost completely agree, except I'd put Skidrow in S tier as it's been my favourite map since the OG MW2 and still love it to this day, if not more so.
I enjoy the new SHG maps and MWII return maps way more to be honest. I think the bigger MW2 maps such as Quarry, Favela, Underpass, Derail, Estate, Karachi, Sub Base, Wasteland and Rundown feel like they play so much worse in MWII than original MW2.
Being a 10v10 guy, I missed out on a lot of maps. 6v6's pacing just wasn't fun for me this year, unfortunately. And i only played small maps to grind challenges
Hot take: Terminal is B tier. It’s a nice design, but you’re very limited to mostly an AR/LMG type play style. It’s hard to get mixey with an SMG on that map
I've not played a lot of the maps, but I recently played Tank in a 1v1 with a friend and I liked it, it reminded me of Zoo from BO1 which is one of my favorite maps of all time, granted that was mainly due to the aesthetics, I don't know how it plays online in 6v6 though
I'm totally with you on Shipment. Surprisingly, I feel totally opposite about Underpass and Skidrow. I liked the originals more. Mercado & Tanked potentially A tier for me. Haven't seen them much lately though.
Agree with pretty much all your takes here as far as standard respawn 6v6 goes except I would throw 6 star in S tier and highrise would go to C tier and and terminal would go to B tier. I can’t STAND highrise, the sight lines are so incredibly long it’s absolutely awful and made for hard scopers. And terminal I always felt was very one sided with quite campy head glitches which I’m not a fan of.
My S-Tier: Underpass, Sub base, Shipment, Meat I didn’t like Underpass in the original MW2, and yet in this game it was S-tier for me. Meanwhile two previous S-Tiers Afghan and Terminal didn’t live up to that for me this time around. B Tier and D tier respectively.
Really interesting how you have Dome as an A Tier, i hate that map for snd, the more aggresive team always wins, and it always feels like ur going against a party, and when ur trapped in either spawn your pretty much finsihed, and its hard to retake and out aggro when you got 3 ppl throwing equipment, full sending to mid against just you.
I'm not gonna go into detail about my preferences but I really like how MW3 plays DESPITE the maps. I really dislike the flow on a lot of those maps, especially most of the OG MW2 maps. Now given your skill, you're the better person to judge this but I found myself way too often wandering about for what felt like an eternity just for someone to pop out of thin air with his shitty stativ HV behind me and delete me instantly. My tier list would probably look like yours but with much more maps in the C and D tier. My S tier would be Grind, Yard, Paris

“Wait there are more than five maps?” - all ranked players
Meat is S tier- one of the best maps in modern COD in my humble opinion
I said the same thing on his stream months ago, Meat a top 25 map ever
I agree. Every time I play meat its a blast. Always vote for it.
Idk Ik it a huge fan of meat it’s not bad tho. I do love meat don’t get me wrong but if I’m on it too much it makes me lose interest
Finally someone actually makes sence
Bait, incline, and yard are my S tier maps. As an ultra aggressive player, these maps are top tier.
3:46 bro... major pause 😂
Pretty good list. I agree with most of your rankings. Obviously mine would be slightly different. Nice work!
Love the perfect normal distribution of this tier list
Personally, I hate Terminal on any mode. And as someone who primarily plays Control, Demolition, and Cyber Attack, I hate Scrapyard as well. You either get spawntrapped as defense or attackers just can't break through defense's spawn.
The issue with terminal is tarmac is just inferior to the airport side, as there are only 3 ways up, but you can come down from the whole crosslane glass windows. Would play much better in a jetpack CoD.
@@Texcik and it does, in IW
Call me stupid but I think checkpoint is a great map, the spawns remind me of older cod games as they were really immovable and took a lot to flip
Checkpoint is really good same as paris and Tokyo they are the only MW feeling dlc maps rest might as well just be cut maps from BO4
The only map I didn't like this year is Shipment (and all its variants). Everything else was super playable.
I almost always agree with your opinions, but regarding maps, its almost the opposite :)
As an S-Tier (if I have to extend it from Shoothouse, which is the perfect map for me), I'd include Vista, Rio, Mercado and 6-star.
Really crazy seeing all the maps listed like this, made me realize how little new and original maps are in this game lol
Incline is without a shadow of a doubt my favourite map. I LOVE it
Yeah I don't understand why they made checkpoint, even as a rebirth player. They took the worst part of rebirth, made it worse, and then put the spawns sideways ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Maybe hot take but imo terminal & highrise are overrated AF. Terminal is so lopsided with spawns & flags and highrise is fine sometimes but when there's more than maybe 1 sniper/camper you just can't go outside and ruins it
I'll give u a quick ranking of the Ground war maps
1. Levin resort
2. Popov power
3. Orlov military base
Agree?
Agreed, it's a shame they let ground war and invasion die this year, I prefer to play these over 6v6
You should do a map tier list but based on games. That would be neat and I’d love to hear you talk about that.
Watching this video made me realize how much I only played the small maps moshpit because I don't think I've experienced most of the new maps 😅😂
Terminal plays so bad in this game, just snipers camping their spawn, pre aiming those tight lanes. Definitely C tier for me, even though I liked it back in 2009
Afghan is an S tier map imo but the way people okay on it drops it down to D tier for me (based on my experiences on it)
Play^* not okay
People play based on how maps are designed.
So if a vast majority of players who play the map participate in super noninteractive and passive gameplay, hate to say it, but that means the map's design is dog ass.
@@mercifuldeath there's truth in that
I’m with you at this point on not vibing with super small maps BUT damn I love das haus WAYY to much to not have it S for me personally, loved it even in vanguard
I desperately want a playlist for the OG maps exclusively. There are several I legit haven’t played a single match on
I'd demote Tokyo to either C or D tier, mainly because if the other team locks down a lane its pretty hard to dig them out of there due to a lack of flanking routes.
Anyways my maps are as follows, mix of modes:
S Tier - Highrise
A Tier - 6 Star, Checkpoint, Quarry, Breenburgh Hotel, Karachi, Incline, Sub Base, Skid Row, Terminal
B Tier - Afghan, Dome, Departures, Mercado Las Almas, Scrapyard, Farm 18, Shipment, Grime, Paris, Yard, Underpass, G3t High
C Tier - Crown Raceway, Greece, Meat, Emergency, Tanked, Tokyo, Rio
D Tier - Bait, Derail, Rust, Shoot House, Favela, Invasion, Estate, Wasteland, Vista
F Tier - Das Haus, Growhouse, Rundown, Stash House
Have not yet played the Drive Thru map so I can’t comment on it as I took a long break from MWIII.
“Perfectly balanced, as all things should be…”
It’s weird I’ve only ever seen a handful of maps in the cycle, never had Greenberg hotel
That’s because they stick in my rotation all the time. Not that I mind it’s a good map, but the joke was too good to pass up 😂
Ace almost busted at 7:05 🤣 he got a lil too excited 🫢
Ace's entire B tier were my personal favourite maps to play except Quarry felt really annoying. Breenbergh Hotel being my fav
Vista was goated imo
I respect your decision to put shipment in D tier but imo the fact that it at least has the purpose of grinding, it should be at least a low C tier
I love videos like this. I wish you did this for Cold War MWll and Vanguarf because i strongly considered most DLC maps to be better than launch maps
Ace, how would you personally rank your S tier maps from 1-5?
Love the list and almost completely agree, except I'd put Skidrow in S tier as it's been my favourite map since the OG MW2 and still love it to this day, if not more so.
I think the old shipment before MW2019 was actually fun because you could have some map control
Most favorites: Bait, Yard, Stash house, Shipment
Least: Derail, Afghan, Estate
Been watching you for years! Because of you, i improved my gameplay. If you ever come to London, UK, I owe you a drink..... or tea ☕
There are now eight versions of Shipment - so must be a fan favourite!
Underpass and grime became some of my top maps in cod from this game
Great Video, I can comprehend all of your choices. :)
Moving 6 star to S makes the whole list present symmetrical, which I appreciate (also agree 6 star is S)
Greece is straight up D tier for me, C would be generous. I've never had less fun in this game than any time I've been playing a match on Greece.
Haven’t started watching yet but already know Ace put Rust and Shipment in F tier lol.
I've not played a lot of the maps, but I recently played Tank in a 1v1 with a friend and I liked it, it reminded me of Zoo from BO1 which is one of my favorite maps of all time, granted that was mainly due to the aesthetics, I don't know how it plays online in 6v6 though
The spawns are kind of a mess on 6v6 but it's ok. Nowhere near as good as ZOO though.
The only thing I would change in this list is 6star as S tier, Karachi as A tier and stash house is A tier for me.
I'd honestly put 90% of the og mw2 maps in S or A Tier, the post launch maps mostly in C-Tier.
I think Rio is an A for me. But, aside from that i genuinely agree with all of these
Made the perfect bell curve with the move at the end 😅
My S-Tier:
Underpass, Sub base, Shipment, Meat
I didn’t like Underpass in the original MW2, and yet in this game it was S-tier for me.
Was Mercado Las Almas removed from MWIII? I have never played that map once.
I actually agree with what you said about checkpoint but I somehow still enjoy it lmao.
Scrapyard used to be one of my favs but I feel like I get it every other game these days and I'm definitely starting to get sick of it
I think some of these maps are upgraded if you look at them for hard point
