Thank you for making this video, I trouble with those 2 tabs not going back in far enough to take the bottom cover off. Your video was very helpful
I spray all my vehicles, computers , tipm and almost anything electrical with corrosion X spray to help with and prevent corrosion
Extremely helpful and easy to follow, thanks man!
@@yamaharacer114 hey glad you enjoyed it and I hope you get the truck sorted out
Crazy idea. I'm looking for a video on how to remove and replace the tipm and this video shows everything except how to remove and replace the tipm.
@@smoothdancer6 it’s easy, open the lid, disconnect battery and then disconnect the 13mm main power cable nut, remove power cable out of the way, push the retaining tabs on the side of the tipm and lift it up, disconnect the electrical connectors one at a time and then remove the tipm from the vehicle
We show it in this video th-cam.com/video/e-1uucisnr4/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for sharing. I had a problem with my truck draining a brand new battery after 2 days. My mechanic checked my alternator but it read good. Could this and/or a faulty fuse cause this problem? Even without showing a fault on the trucks computer?
It is a possibility, I would do a parasitic draw test to just make sure it’s not in another circuit. I have just posted a quick video on how to do that on a ram truck if you want to go check it out on my channel
I have a 2012 ram 1500. Lights flicker on the dashboard and engine will slowly stall. Only happens when the highbeams are on. Could the TIPM be the issue?
@@fortier43781 that’s an interesting one! It’s definitely possible, I mean it would be the first place I would look
I change my starter relay fuse in that box 3 times and they kept going out every 2/3 week in my 2012 dodge ram could this be the problem?
For sure it could be
I have a question and I hope someone can help. I have a 2014 Ram 1500 5.7 and my main engine harness melted some of the wires on the passenger side right where the two wire looms that come out of the PCM merge together. Had a few issues two days before this happened. There was a starter hesitation, my high beams got stuck on high for a minute when first starting the truck at night and my right rear turn signal stopped then started working again(NO CEL) Could a bad TIPM corrosion create these problems? It's clear I had a very serious voltage issue. I am thinking of replacing my PCM, body control module along with the TIPM. Just in case one damaged the other. I hate to shotgun parts like that but I am trying to get a few different opinions. Don't want to burn up another harness. I found a company in Utah to repair the harness. It was mentioned on several Ram forum sites. I spoke with them and they have experience with these Ram harnesses. If you want I can give you the name of the harness repair company if you know of anyone else needing repairs on discontinued harnesses. I don't want to post the name of a company without your permission. Thanks
@@billping2633usually when wires melt it’s from either the wrong fuse, circuit breaker stuck on, relay stuck on or a short circuit in some cases. It’s totally possible that corrosion in the TIPM could have contributed to that. I don’t mind if you share the wiring harness repair shops name
@@Tech-28 Thanks for responding, you got a new sub. . I am a retired commercial diesel tech. So I can say for sure there are no wrong fuses or any other rigged up parts. Bought the truck brand new. I left the truck totally stock. It's super clean with only 80k on it and I have overkilled the maintenance on it. I have only seen a few others like it. Standard cab black with blacked out factory rims short bed 5.7 4x4 with a 6 speed auto. I get offers to buy it all the time. Like I said, I wanted to see if anyone else had seen the harness fail like that in that particular spot. As you know, electric problems can be a nightmare. The name of the company is: Wiring Harness Restoration LLC. In UT
Saw your video. I have a 2019 Ram 3500. Many different warning lights going off on the dash. Do you think replacing the power distribution center/TIPM would fix this problem? Been to the dealer 5 times for the past 8 months. Dealer states since they can’t duplicate the warning light problem, which is intermittent, they can’t fix it.
That’s a tough one man, intermittent issues are the hardest to solve, I wanna say I doubt it needs the tipm. Sounds to me like you have a pin fitment issue in one of the connectors. Do you know what codes is was setting? I’m gonna guess lost communication with a hand full of modules
Many miscommunications; for example, while I am driving these warning lights come on-parking brake light, cruise control, fuel gauge needle going wacko, suspension system needs service, traction control, etc. Also, I can’t get the truck to get smogged. Last light left on was the oxygen sensor light.
So far the operation of the truck has not been affected.
Most likely a wiring issue somewhere
@@Tech-28will a tipm out of a 2021 ram Laramie 1500 work on a 2012 ram 1500 Laramie
@@johnharmon3621 I don’t think it will, I’m almost certain the connector layout is different
I have a 2012 Ram 1500 that doesn't want to start. I changed and programmed new keys, starter, and win module. Nothing has fixed it starting yet. It will start every once in a while, but not very often at all. any idea if this could be the issues?
Could be, but not for sure.
Where do you send it to be refurbished? Any recommendations. Thanks

Another good vid...had the no start issue....local CT did the by-passed around the relay with switch...ok..good till the other day where the truck stalled in a no stopping zone...cycled the switch a couple times and it started right up... unfortunately a cop gave me a 110$ fine... didn't believe me lol...where do you send them for repairs? I understand they are 900$ if you can find one.
I am in Canada, there is a 3rd party company through carquest I sometimes send them too but for the most part there’s a local guy that’s an electronics wizard that fixes them, you can also shop them out to be repaired through online sources and rent one while yours is being repaired or you could try and hunt down a used one at a junk yard or through car-part.com
Awesome thanks, I'm in Ontario
I spray all my vehicles, computers , tipm and almost anything electrical with corrosion X spray to help with and prevent corrosion the red can !!!
the greenish can is too thick
@@shugatoast7844 never heard of it, I’ll take a look
@@Tech-28 safe on electronics I even spray the circuit boards
and electrical on my HVAC I did a lot of reading and research before spraying all my expensive electrical components. don't take my word for it. Look it up. I think you will like it.
Will this tipm make ur transmission go in limp mode
It definitely could
same issue whit me. have you find the mistake?
Can you just replace the whole part
Yep 👍 that’s usually the fix
I have a 2009 1500 ram. I can physically see corrosion . How does this thing come apart without smashing it haha
@@michaelanthony6785 it takes alot of patience, just watch the video and try your best to take it apart carefully, just take your time and really study the design of the TIPM and how it comes apart
@@Tech-28 so it does come apart ? What I can see of the circuit board I see corrosion .
@@Tech-28 any specific tools. I’ve removed the 3 x t20 screws and I can see below but I don’t want to reef. What’s holding it in ?
@@michaelanthony6785yeah yours is the previous version of the TIPM, have you removed all of the fuses and relays yet?
@@Tech-28 yes, they are all removed.
I have a 2014 Ram Laramie 1500 i have no low beam or fog light on the left side i need a new TIPM right
@@jameslogsdon419 it’s possible but maybe it’s just bad wires or bulbs, you’d have to diagnose it to be 100% sure
What a shitty design. WTF were they thinking?
lol 😂 tell me about it.. I’ve changed probably 50 of those things in the last 5 years and that’s just 1 mechanic, dodge must sell tons of those pieces of crap
I have a 2015 dodge ram 1500, I have a the knob that I turn to go into drive, it’s stuck in park and my dashboard is showing multiple lights like transmission, engine, tire pressure, parking sensors, brake, and traction control. Could this be a tipm problem ?
@@IRJtrio it definitely could be a tipm issue
I have a 2012 Ram 1500. Intermittent cranks. When it does not crank, the security dash light is flashing. I have replaced battery, bought a 3rd key fob, and just replaced the WIN unit. Still happening. Could this be a problem with the TIPM?
@@MoJoRid3r definitely could be a power supply issue to the PCM, if the PCM looses power on either of the two power supply wires that exact condition will occur
@@MoJoRid3r could also be corrosion inside of the TIPM as well
@ anything’s possible
