- How to remove and clean the integrated power distribution fuse box module under the hood. Over time, being exposed to moisture and with age, the fuse box can develop corrosion which leads to many different electrical issues. After cleaning the TIPM, this solved my battery drain issue. #dodgeram #diy

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-10mm socket or wrench
-14mm socket or wrench
-ratchet
-small pry tool
-electronic cleaners and protectants
Procedure:
The first thing we need to do is disconnect the battery. Disconnecting the negative battery terminal is only required, use a 10mm wrench or socket and ratchet. Removing the main power supply on the outside of the fuse box. This is held on by a 14mm nut.
Flip up the fuse box, this is fairly easy to work with. Using a small pry tool, you’ll have two snap clips, one on each side. Use the pry tool to pull out the tabs, the fuse box has a hinge on the bottom, pull the top out towards the engine.
Using the small pry tool again, you’ll need to push the red flip forward and this will allow you to flip up the white levers to remove each of the electrical connectors. For the connectors on the side, there is a tab that needs to be depressed, then pulling the connection straight off. When done, then lift out the fuse box.
For opening up the fuse box. Removing all the fuses, pliers can be used, just make sure you don’t damage them. Remove the 5 T20 torx screws. Using a standard screwdriver, pry around the outer edge to disconnect the clips and help the inner cap out. Take your time, it can wedge preventing the opposite side from disconnecting. After that is removing the circuit board, using the standard screwdriver, pry up the main power supply terminal and then lift out the circuit board. You can also assist it out by pressing on the plug connections on the rear of the assembly.
Inspect for any corrosion, first is cleaning with a brush. For this I am using DeoxIT’s gold kit, it comes with the cleaning tools, corrosion remover, and protectant. First using the supplied round brush, clean the terminals of any debris.
On the terminals which are still enclosed with the plastic casing, use DeoxIt’s D5 spray. This will dissolve any corrosion, depending on the severity, you may need more than one application. The thinner solution allows for flushing action to get into those tight places.
As for the exposed terminals, back to the DeoxIT gold kit, using the D100L and the supplied brush, apply it to the rest of the terminals. Again if there is extreme corrosion, make one application, let it sit for some time, clean away the corrosion, and apply more as needed.
When everything is finalized, apply a layer of G100L to the terminals as a layer of protection. Mine was fairly clean, other than one broken terminal which I’ll show you in a moment. When done, wipe off the access solution using the clothes from the DeoxIt Gold Kit. Assemble in reverse of removal. Install the circuit board back in the bottom portion of the case. Take your time and make sure all those terminals are aligning with their holes.
Next is installing the cover, snap it back into place. Again make sure those terminals are aligning with their holes, do not bend or break any of them. Install the torx screws and tighten. Don’t overtighten them as this is only plastic. Finally reinstall the fuses. Their orientation doesn’t matter, however, make sure they are in their correction locations.
Going back over to the truck, spray each of the electrical connectors with DeoxIt’s D5 solution, this will flush out any dirt and corrosion. If corrosion is excessive, more than one application may be needed. Then allow it to sit for a couple of hours so the solution can dry.
Install the module in reverse of removal. While my main power terminal was clean, these can corrode too so I applied some of DeoxIt’s battery cleaner and protectant as preventative maintenance. Then install the terminal and tighten. Then reconnect the battery.

My turn signals would occasionally stop working for no apparent reason and would only work after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery for my 2007 dodge caliber, so I took out the POS TIPM, found a few of the pins had some green corrosion, sprayed it with electrical contact cleaner until the green was gone (let it dry of course) and so far ZERO ISSUES.
Thanks to your video I was able to remove the connectors without breaking them and do a good cleaning. (Edit, there appeared to be no corrosion on the circuit board so I didn't take it apart further then the top cover and fuses)

Great video and very helpful to Dodge Ram owners! Keep up the good work!
Thank you and definitely will!
Lol
Great video. Just cleaning, testing and reassembly with electrolytic grease solve my radio power loss issue.
I didn’t have AC, tach, Speedo, oil pressure, or Temp gauges. I bought this stuff ($50.00 on their website) ,followed the instructions and it worked!
Awesome to hear and thank you so much for the feedback!

Thank you for the video. I need help. My car does not start due to a power outage on the fuel pumps. Does TIPM have anything to do with its pin?
yeah... what kind of car
Amazingly done! Short video, great explanation! And thank you for listing all tools used!!!!!! But really scarred to do it myself lol
Thanks so much for this video. Very thorough and simple. Very well done sir and it’s greatly appreciated
Great video, do you have a wire diagram for the TIPM?
The TIPM looks slightly different on my 2005 Ram 1500 where the main power is at the end furthest from the fender, but it has the main power connection, and it is corroded. I am having little success getting that nut loose. I am soaking it in PB Blaster, but there is not much holding it except the plastic case of the TIPM and the way it is connected to the circuit board it connects to so it isn't like I can put a huge amount to force on it. It is surrounded by plastic, so heat is not an option. Any suggestions other than continuing to soak it in penetrating oil in hopes it will eventually make its way in enough to get it broken free?
well i see my truck there, ☺️. first i didn’t realize my key fob fell apart, ended up triggering anti theft... got a new key, everything programmed. Now the shop says i need new tipm. i’m actually taking my truck to a different shop now, someone who knows what you know. Pray for me 🙏🤲
We greatly appreciate ur video my 2008 Dodge problem u turn key about 30 time to start but it will start and run.joy of Dodge electrics.lol.
Thank you!
The starter circuit I went to auto part store had starter tested it tested bad or so they told me but I grew up in a junk yard so I went back home I just came out of hospital with heart surgery so I test starter with jumper cables and 10gauge wire. Hooked to main terminal of starter + then grounded the starter with jumper cables. Touched 12+to starter to solenoid on the starter it bench tested fine. Next I simply reinstalled started (I just had heart surgery so I only have one had to work with but it my hospital ride)
Next simple remove connector from starter solenoid went to Napa or any auto parts store (parts needed one electrical I ring connector to fit on starter main terminal 12+ 6ft gray 12 gauge wire with a gray vinyl jacket and inline fuse with a 10 amp fuse I hooked it to the 12 volt big terminal on the starter after I took the battery loose always take the battery loose first unbolted the terminal put the iring under there with the wire on it with the fuse on that side I ran it up to the driver's cabin on the inside I looped it through my clutch switch cuz I have a standard transmission and hooked it to my push button switch the black wire went back to the solenoid on the starter which I used a red butt connector crimp it halfway shut and pushed it on the terminal I coded everything with liquid tape and electrical tape to keep the moisture out which the manufacturer should do but they do not push the clutch down turn the key on to the ignition come on and I push the starter switch button and the POS started take the space shuttle out of your cars guys we're not going to be flying in outer space anytime soon I hope this helps some of you poor guys because I was having a tough time in one hand after being in the hospital thank you for listening to my nonsense I have others if you need them like how to get rid of those body control modules for the rear in the front the 1500 a piece
Anyone see the link for replacement pins? He mentioned one of his subscribers mentioned it but I can't find it and I read all the replies.
Very informative , helpful and to the point. Great video!
Thank you!
I'm going to attempt this on Saturday.
Hopefully it fixes my air conditioner
Can you do a video of how to program a new TIPM to a 2008 ram 6.7?
This was very helpful thank you for making this video
You're so welcome!
Would dye electric grease in any connections stop moisture and corrosion ?
Possibly the truck i had with the most electrical issues with the less fuse for the so many wire it have. No schema nowhere about wiring, you have to check it one by one.
Congrats on a fantastic video. I have two faults I can’t figure out how to clear. This can’t hurt doing. CAREFULLY
Thank you so much! Yeah these Dodges like their electrical issues.
@@4DIYers Cheap fix for me. Bad o-ring in the oil cap. Leaked enough air through to cause aeration in the oil is my guess. $11. Although engine light went out after I left the part store with oil pressure sensor in hand. Do that next oil service. 160k.
@@4DIYers my other issue is CLEAN BACKUP SENSORS. I replaced them all but get the error message driving forward. But they actually work fine backing up. Wondering if I need to clean terminals on the TIMP(?) Fuse box. That’s a spring time job.
Yes I saw the how to clean my tipm video what is the names of the cleaning and after cleaning products
SUPER..! Well documented video...!
I am grateful to you for this informative video, Thank You !!!! May Goodness and prosperity bless you!you
Thank you so much for the kind words and feedback!
Thanks for the video, it's very informative. If I do this to my Tahoe, I will probably break some wire hehe
If I replace the TIPM. does it have to be programmed to the truck? I’m going to try and clean it first. Thank you for the video.
As far as I know, yes the TIPM does need to be programmed for the vehicle. Instead of a dealer, a private shop should be able to do this as long as they have the correct equipment. No problem, happy I could help!
Tipm will need programmed !
As long as you get the exact same part number, it will not need to be reprogrammed
2012 ram 1500 5.7..... started having gas gauge reading low and brake fluid level sensor circuit high c1008... could they be related through the TIPM?
2005 1500 dodge ram 5.7 they replaced the fuse box n FBC but nothing works no wipers or single lights or horn windows do drivering lights do but when I try to scan it with OB2 soon I pug in scanner everything works but my pcm is from 07 4x4 5.7 my truck is 05 2w 5.7 truns on but no cluster works it just flickers so I'm getting a pcm it say no link wat is it
Thank you for the video. I am having electrical issues with my 08 dodge 1500 . I replace the battery, alternator and the starter. It will turn on for about 4x during the day then nothing.. just click click… I am frustrated. They said change the ignition relay but it’s seem my truck doesn’t have one or I just don’t k know where it is located. Can you help me
hey did you ever figure out what the problem is with your dodge ram? im having the same issue
Question = when doing hard reset,,do you tie batt cables together while tipm is still plugged in? if so, do i need to wait a period of time before unplugging Tipm ? does it matter?
It would be done when everything is plugged in, making sure all the modules are depleted of any electrical charge. A couple minutes should be fine.
Great tutorial.👍
Does anyone know why my rear tail light directional or brake light don’t work , I’ve replace the circuit board and tail light wired ? Could it be the TIPM
Yes I have the same problem & the issue is the tipm.
does anyone know what an "led" board is on a 2013 ram 2500 diesel and where it may be
Thanks for the video. Very informative. Can you tell me if the TIPM would make the 4 wheel drive now work? I can not find any reference to 4 wheel and TIPM but a dealer told me that is what it was to the tune of $1600!!! Thanks.
No problem and thank you! It's quite possible, the TIPM can cause quite a few issues on these trucks. You would need to look at a wiring diagram in order to determine where all the circuits are tied in. However I would be surprised if they just wanted to throw parts at it either. If they have the work written up as a TIPM replacement, clean it yourself instead. As mentioned in my video, if you do find a faulty pin which is an option equipped on your vehicle, have someone who does electrics work replace it. It will be by far cheaper than the replacement, I believe the TIPM alone is around $600.
Did you get it resolved, if so how? I'm having same issue, changed front axle actuator but it's actually not getting power to engage. So I may be looking at cleaning the TIPM or changing it out.
@@jefferystensland1304 did you ever fix your problem with the 4x4 I’ve been having this isssue for the past year and no one can find the problem ?
@@joegutierrez4619
I did not, had replaced the axle actuator and could hear the actuator at the transfer case engaging. Ended up selling the truck.
@@jefferystensland1304 I have been having the same issue. Cleaning TIPM today. Did you try this fix Jeff?
I have an 04 3500 that I’m having some electrical issues with. I cannot control the headlights/running lights most of the time, most of the time they turn themselves on and off, etc without my intervention. This happens whether the truck is running or not. I’ve replaced the headlight switch in the dash and checked all the various connectors for corrosion and it’s still doing it. Do you think corrosion in the TIPM could be causing this?
Try disconnecting the battery, touch both the negative and positive together to drain the system completely for a reset. Also, are you running HID or LED lights?
@@4DIYers other than a trailer brake control and a radio, there’s no other aftermarket electrical items on the truck at all. And both of those were installed after the problem began occurring, and it’s slowly gotten worse over time.
Try disconnect the headlight switch first. You'll need a wiring diagram to determine what is part of the system. Then start unplugging different components to see what will turn off the lights when they're stuck on.
@@4DIYers I will try that, thank you!
Thanks for the information very good video.
Glad it was helpful and thank you!
Which one is the pesky fuel pump fuse/relay that keeps giving us problems?
Did you ever figure out which is the fuel pump relay?
Should I replace the plug and the fuses?
No dielectric grease?
NEVER BUY A DODGE AGAIN ****I have a dodge challenger 2014 and i had to fix so many items in this car that is ridiculous.
Ac, compressor
Ac controls
Time chain
Water pump twice
Head lamps relay
Sun roof mechanisms and sensor
Smart glass (windows auto up)
TIPM (part of computer? $1700.00
Trunk release mechanism
Check engine light multiple times
Etc
Etc.
Is for sale heap and will be my very last dodge/Chrysler vehicle i buy.
Hi. Can we use WD-40 for cleaning the corrosion? Or CLR?
What do I do for corrosion on my relays inside the cab behind my fuse box?
Use the same process. If the problems persist, then you'll need to consider replacing things or possible looking at other connectors relating to the circuit.
thanks, I needed this!!!
I put gorilla tape around my fuse box on my 2021ram1500 classic I couldn't believe I could see exposed wires! It's all sealed now not taking any chance of water getting in👍🛻
Is there a link to purchase spare pins online, one of my pins is damaged
Maybe Digi Key or Texas Instruments. There's a couple automotive electronics groups on Facebook, there's some super knowledgable people for this type of stuff. I did get some for the Tacoma, but it was from a JDM site.
I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500. My wipers and windows won't function normally. Dash has all fault lights on. If I turn the wiper knob toward me and press on the the window buttons on the driver door, that makes my wipers go. I can only open and close the passenger window if the wiper knob is turned toward me and that's the only window that will move.. Could this be the tipm or corrosion on it? No auto electrician I've spoke to has seen this problem.
I just had this problem come up as well. Did you figure out if it's corrosion? I'll end up pulling mine apart this weekend
@@pickford7812 Car is in the shop right now. So far I was told they found a lose ground near the brake. They also disabled my alarm though so that could have been the problem too. I asked them to put it back. Strange thing happened though about a month ago. The truck has had this problem for about a year, about a month ago it rained heavily and everything I mean EVERYTHING started working again. About a week later everything went out again. Just crazy. Hope this doesn't cost me a fortune
Did you find out the problem with your truck?
@@fabpie6356 i ignored the problem and it went away. If it comes back, I'll probably pull the wiper assembly apart and clean the park contact
Is this same for second gen
The second gen doesn’t have a TIPM as far as I know.
Contact cleaner would work too right?
Yes it should.
thank you for you're video 🙏
Where do i get the brushes and cleaner
caig.com carries the brushes and cleaner.
So where is the body module at
Hey man. I did this and somehow the anti theft activated. truck did run for two seconds then shut off. Did it 3 times now it wont even fire. How do I reset the anti theft. I have looked online and have tried with everything with almost no help.
Is there a red light flashing on the dash, is it the original key, do you have an aftermarket alarm system?
Have same problem what you end up doing?

My truck wouldn't start so I cut the starter circuit out of this over engineered thing lol. Simple $12 fix .!
Yeah this truck has too many electronics for my liking. Manufacturers really like making things super complicated for no reason.
Would you mind explaining how?
What ever happened to pride in Craftsmanship, we shouldn't have these issues
Agreed, nothing is built to last anymore.
