Your video was essential in making my project a success! In less than an hour the van was running like new! Thanks again!
Thank you for the video! It certainly helped me with my truck.. for anyone who wants to do this without a kit, you can go to your local parts store and get a relay and a relay pigtail for 15 bucks. I had to figure out which wires are what but it was easy. The brown and pink/green stripe wire are your trigger wires that will open and close the relay. The blue is the power wire is to the pump and requires the addition of a power wire as he showed in the video. When you have all the wiring done, when the key is turned on the relay should click on and shortly turn off as it has primed the fuel system. Once you start the vehicle it will stay on. The brown wire is a controlled ground that the pcm uses to shut off the pump when the pressure is high enough but the engine is not running. Hope this helps!
Hey Anthony, I did the same thing myself and bought the relay kit from an part store. Question I have is, on the relay itself. How do I know which wires from the relay goes to the wires on the tpim? Thanks in advance!
Hey Brandon, on the relay 85 and 86 are the trigger wires to activate the relay. 87 and 30 are the power and pump wire. There should be a diagram on the side of the relay and on the underside it will have numbers next to the pin indicating which is which.

@@3347861 Hey man can you send me info on what you did, my 2010 ram has the older tipm and i need to install an external relay but its all totally different
@@adamflores you'll need to get schematics for your fuel pump circuit. I used a heavy duty aftermarket relay and socket from Napa and installed a fused wire onto the main lug of the TIPM to power the pump. I then cut the signal wire and fuel pump wire from the TIPM and extended them. Ground for the switch side came from a pigtail to the body. Install harness protector on the new harness and tie everything up securely. Hope this helps.
This is a great fix and it's alot cheaper then the "proper" fix, however, I've seen this toggled before. Some older models of trucks had their fuel pump on a toggle from the factory. The only downside is forgetting to shut it off when you shut the truck off. But it works just the same. Less wires cut and taped off if you ever decide or have to change the tipm at a later time. I would just run it to a toggle myself and if I decided to sell the truck I'd replace the tipm. I'm glad I never had to deal with this cause I have an 05 Ram 1500. No internal relay no mds. I dodged a bullet. no pun intended.
great investigating and getting to the fix.. ! I have a 2017 grand caravan, going to buy a relay kit to keep in the glove box in case mine fails far way on a trip
If you’ll spider web the two ends of the stripped wires and push them together and twist to intertwine them and have the heat shrink and brass connector already sitting on the wire then you can easily slide the connector over it and crimp and solder the connection. Just thought I’d mention that and hopefully it helps for future projects.
Sure glad I stumbled upon this. Pretty sure I'm having the same issue. I've noticed the fuel pump stay on intemittantly. The bigger issue is when it fails to start.
This is a good fix - but if you dont want to go use the bypass its not that hard to take apart the TIPM and get to where the fuel pump relay is. Then as long as you can do some basic desolder/solder work you can switch out the fuel pump relay thats located right on the circuit board. Its a bit fiddly and tedious but not all that bad.
@@christopherscott8853 He clearly stated that it requires soldering on a circuit board. Any "novice" that takes that as advice for them is a moron. Your comment is stupid.
I bought a truck with this already installed. I believed it to be a disable thing but I never discussed it with the dealership. Turns out this is the problem and it is already on the car. Possibly the wiring of it- broken connection or the relay went bad. Either way I'm hoping for a cheap fix.
Will that bypass fit my 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 leader the fuse panel that you're working on is different than the one that I have my fuse panel is located diagonal next to the battery not flat and yours have much more fuses in it than mine does your video was 4 years ago I look for the part number on Amazon and couldn't find it do you know if that item has been updated as different part number I just don't know
The kit listed in this video is not longer available. I went with the Vertical Visions TIPM Plug-In Relay System Lite instead. No tools necessary. No removing the TIPM. No cutting, splicing or dangling wires. Simply pop out 2 fuses and plug in the bypass module in their place. 5 minute install and works great!
There's a guy who was a Chrysler tech and made his own bypass, just plugs into cig lighter fuse and into the fuse for the relay. I ordered one and gonna change it
Great information but I think they're onto to this repair. The part number comes up dry on google searches with the exception to the safety recall notice you showed. Ebay had one with the wrong part in the bag. Fortunately the notice contains a wealth of information. Just sent an email to Mopar Part Depot with the truck VIN. The notes on the Mopar page said this item is VIN specific. If I receive a go pound sand reply I can at least build one. Thanks
That is good but I did it by taking the order of egnition from 20A fuse to operate arelay bigger than feul pump relay out of main fuse box and give it main +ve 12v of battery with fuse 20A goes to fuel pump harnes

Great job, great video, i have the same problem on my 2011 RAM, the fuel pump stills on when the key out, battery dead in a couple hours, tell me about yours, does it still drain or discharged after the relay?
@@Tomsfoolery. - After 3 years and several mechanics including dealers, I thought this was going to give me the answer. I'm not so sure, this is the second guy to confirm a dead battery as the symptom. I was hoping it just seemed like a dead battery because the vehicle wouldn't start. In the 3 yrs, I went through a stage of believing it was the battery, but then it could happen on a good strong battery. I turn my fob and nothing happens start wise, but I have full power, I hear the actuators etc., but no crank, no start. BUT about a year ago I discovered if I just continue holding the fob in the start position, against the spring it will eventually start, something I thought those guys may have not discovered. I sit there for 5 mins holding it sometimes and then out of the blue, vroom, starts and runs perfect. lol. The longer it sits, the longer it takes to start. If it's only been a couple minutes it usually starts right away. I have reset it several times, no avail. It's so stinkin weird. It's gotten worse over time but still is a perfect vehicle other than that. Anything I said connect to what your doing here you think?
Get sum liquid flux or the flux paste and apply to both wires so it will clean and help solder flow. Every wire I solder even if iuse flux core I add flux to make sure no cold solder joints.

My dad owns a 2012 dodge ram 1500 its a crewcab and has around 150,000 Miles. I ordered the part to fix the tipm and look forward to installing it. His truck has one issue that i hope you may help resolve. About one month ago a service electric trailer break light has come on the guage cluster. When he does start his truck the truck stays stuck in park and does not want to switch gear. In order to drive it you have to start the truck, turn off, switch to neutral, start the truck, and then switch to drive. Any help would be appreciated.
Is the new relay a socket with plug-in replaceable relay or a solid unit? Having intermittent fuel pump not running issues now. 2012 Ram bought new, with 44k miles now. My pump never runs like this example. It just won't run to start truck sometimes. But once it decides to run, the truck starts and runs fine. So I'm not sure what my issue is yet. This video covers a possible solution. Imagine engineering something so poorly that the vehicles have a high failure rate to where the mfg. actually sells a work around kit to fix it.

NOVEMBER 22, 2019 - A Chrysler TIPM recall has been issued for more than 698,000 Dodge Durangos and Jeep Grand Cherokees that were previously recalled for TIPM (totally integrated power module) problems. The 2011-2013 Dodge and Jeep SUVs are equipped with 3.6-liter, 5.7-liter or 6.4-liter engines, and the recall is needed because the fuel pump relays inside the TIPMs may fail and cause the vehicles to stall.

No, pun intended for sure..this design sucks.
Thanks for making videos like this. Fixed my truck.
Great video, and great alternative to replacing the internal relay.
real men dont need instruction, they know how to rock!!!
great investigating and getting to the fix.. ! I have a 2017 grand caravan, going to buy a relay kit to keep in the glove box in case mine fails far way on a trip
There is a German guy on TH-cam that takes the circuit board and shows how to actually repair it . Crazy cool. My giguser channel
If you’ll spider web the two ends of the stripped wires and push them together and twist to intertwine them and have the heat shrink and brass connector already sitting on the wire then you can easily slide the connector over it and crimp and solder the connection. Just thought I’d mention that and hopefully it helps for future projects.
That’ll make the connection of the wire stronger and better as well as making the wire as close to one wire as possible
Thank you Sir. It is a really good video and info! My Daughter has a dodge caravan with that problem. I will work on it. Thank you again!
Not good advice for a novice. Nothing wrong with an external relay.
Great video! If I used that butane torch like he did, I would be in the intensive burn unit.
Will that bypass fit my 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 leader the fuse panel that you're working on is different than the one that I have my fuse panel is located diagonal next to the battery not flat and yours have much more fuses in it than mine does your video was 4 years ago I look for the part number on Amazon and couldn't find it do you know if that item has been updated as different part number I just don't know
Wow thats such a crappy system that dodge has. Thanks for the fix man, that is so Perfect!
Yeah it makes NO sense to make the fuel pump relay a non-serviceable part!
Where did you get your part at? I’m needing to do this on my truck and since the part in the video is discontinued idk what new part to get.
Heather Hoke I ordered direct from Vertical Visions. Just go their website.
What year is your vehicle?

Thanks man! Appreciate the very descriptive video!!
And thank you for watching!
There's a guy who was a Chrysler tech and made his own bypass, just plugs into cig lighter fuse and into the fuse for the relay. I ordered one and gonna change it
Great video that answered a bunch of my questions, thanks!
No problem!
Good job!
What. Beautiful shop u have!! Is that at your house? Great vid!! Been watching a few of your vids. Great stuff. U r a super tech.
I can't seem to find part CBWPR091AA available anymore.
very helpful video, thank you for taking the time to make it!
So If I've read the diagrams correct, When doing this repair with a standard relay the connections go as follows.
Brown - 12+ Relay Coil (85)
Pink/Light Green - Ground Relay Coil (86)
Dark Blue/Orange - Load side N/O Contact (87)
Red Fused Eyelet - Line side N/O Contact (30)
Can anyone confirm?
Yes, correct (2016 caravan 3.6).
Great job, great video, i have the same problem on my 2011 RAM, the fuel pump stills on when the key out, battery dead in a couple hours, tell me about yours, does it still drain or discharged after the relay?
Installing the relay fixed it. Prior to the repair, the truck would have a dead battery if it sat for more than a couple hours.
I just replaced my fuel pump. Work good the first day. Next day I filled up the tank. It started up fine. Drove to the end of the block to have lunch. It sat for 20 min. Than tried starting it. It would fire than stop. Fire and stop. Every time I would turn the key. I pumped the bottom of the gas tank! And it fired up. Drove it home, about 35 miles. Let it sit. And it did it all again. Brand new pump. Do you think my tipm is the reason? It’s a dodge Durango 08- 4.7
Excelente 👌 información ℹ gracias 👍 por compartir tus conocimientos
02-05 Rams have different fuse boxes, and 06-09 Rams are different as well.
Great audio 👍 with great video
Very impressive 👍👏
Thank you so much for your video
UR the best 👌
Thats why i love my buick riviera 1968 0nly 5 wires to start the engine no relays i have the same problem i had to add + to the fuel pump in order to make the pump start
Found the kit on Amazon for 28.00 bucks😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks for the video. I have the same problem on a dodge caravan 2013, but i have Been unable to find this cable. Does anybody can guide me, where? Thanks Nestor
You did great. However, can't find this part on Amazon. Have a 2011 Ram 6 cyl. 1500.
cant buy it anymore because it is a recall part now and is illegal to buy
i have a 2008 town country. inthink i have this relay issue, but its intermittent issue. the car tries to start and just cranks without turning over. turn the key off and try it again it works and works for a couple days or months then happens agsin.im going to check and see if the fuel pump is working when this happens.. would this also cause a rough idle.? thanks your video makes it look easy..
So if we do a bypass does the fuel pump stay on while the truck is on? The whole time?
It helped me tons , Thank you .
Glad it helped!
Thanks very must this really help
Thanks for the feedback!
I've done the wire jump from fuel pump relay to accessory fuse. Works for now but i want a permanent solution. I just replaced this TIPM 2 years ago and don't feel like dealing with it. I've got an issue with p0882 code now as well and looking to bypass the relay there too. Any advice on part numbers 2007 jeep wrangler Sahara unlimited automatic transmission.
Tks for the video. I received the part and even after removing the bottom fuse on m25 fuse the pump remains on. Its a 2012 Grand caravan.••• Any thoughts ? Tks in advance
Huge help great video! Thanks for taking the time to make it!
thankx bro i just fixed my problem good stuff
Late Comment I know hopefully you will get this lol. I replaced my TIPM already unfortunately and now I ran into my fuel pump staying on once again. Could you send me the link to were you bought that kit. Thank you and look forward to pausing this video and installing a part I wish I would've got before. Thank you sir.
I've got a 2016 5.7.
When I bought it the fuel gauge didn't work. Installed new pump in and everything worked for about a week. Check engine light went away. But now check engine light is back and it's hard to start in the mornings or after it's been sitting for a while. Once it's on it drives fine but check engine light remains. Any help would be much appreciated!!
get the code read at autozone, it will tell you what the issue is
@@RobertELee-uc7em turned out to be a bad pump. Put a new one in and everything's fine now.

This also works for my 2011 VW Routan. It's basically a reskinned Chrysler T&C And Dodge Grand Caravan.
Where did you find instructions on wire fuel pump bypass
I'm having the same issue do you have the part number for the kit you I stalled for the new fuel pump relay
I have being in a related trouble, our case is a Dodge Nitro 2008, it has the same TIPM, MY CUESTION IS: This modification applies for my vehicle???..... Thanks a lot for your help.... Greetings from Panama!
Seems this part is no longer available either on Amazon or from Mopar (Mopar site says no longer available). I imagine most any relay would work so long as specs are met (volts and amps)?
MOPAR PART # 6814 2156 AC 001
Can you tell me what I need to make this myself because you can't buy them anywhere now
Nice video and a very good job ! Thank you !
I can’t say I’ve came across that issue yet! It would be a guess without looking at scam tool data.
Will that particular part work with a 2014 250 Dodge Ram? My search for that part # only covered up to 2013.
Hi- Great videos! I was wondering if you would know how to fix a low voltage reading on a 2008 Dodge Magnum fuel gauge. Works intermittently. Replace both fuel pumps and checked wire harness, pulled out dashboard and cleaned connections. Work for a while, then started acting up again. Any Ideas? Thanks!
Great Video! What brand is that little yellow torch you used to heat the heat shrink tubing?
Thanks! That torch was a gas station find! It was $5 and worth it’s weight in gold. It’s refillable too!
YOUR THE BEST MY MAN
Thanks!
I had this fixed under a recall for free in my v6 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now have ram 2500 with same error code (darn dodge). Sounds like recall isn't for all Chrysler vehicles but needs to be. I'll be calling in the am to check and will report back if so.
Is this the same on a 2013 ram 1500 diesel engine?
2007 dodge Ram TIPM is totally different how. You know. Which one is the cable?
Yessssss!!!!! I did it! Thanks Man! Pound that like for this guy! July 6, 2021
Thanks!
Where did you order the part?
@@marklopez9930 at your local dodge dealership... and, if they say they don't have the part make them call around! $23 dollars was the price
Thanks for the help
I ordered this relay bypass kit from Mopar and they cancelled my order. They said it's a recall part and wouldn't allow me to purchase. Come to find out, this part is no longer available to anyone, even VINs listed in the recall, and even the new replacement is on back order for months. WTF. My VIN ain't recalled so I'm totally F***ed. I don't know if any aftermarket kits will work but I have to try...
My grand cherokee had this recall fixed 3 or 4 yrs ago. Then from a year ago jeep gives hard start. So u have to turn on jeep half way to wait for fuel to rise then turn on fully. Now for the last four weeks jeep shutting off while driving. They say it is the fuel relay again. Chrysler just issued a recall on the recall nov 22 2019.
My dealer says no fix till next year. So my jeep parked up
