Great Video man. I like that Toyota listens to feedback. My two main gripes with this car when it launched was the fact that it only came in auto, and was severely underpowered. Toyota addressed both of those issues. I'd definitely buy one now. I remember seeing it for the first time at the NAIAS in Detroit a few years ago, and I asked the Toyota rep if there would be a manual version. Lol the guy covered his name tag, looked around, and said "we're not supposed to be talking about that."
Just the fact that I could buy the supra with a stick now makes it an aspirational vehicle. As soon as the manual supra was revealed, the car seemed to double in appeal in my head rather than get instantly dismissed. Now it's a car I want almost as bad as an Alfa Romeo 4c, and when I finally save up the money to have one, I'll have to choose between those two
I own one now for 3 months. His assessment is very accurate, coming from a 19 S550 (5.0 mustang) and many other sports cars. This is a Fantastic daily or weekend car. The clutch is so nice to my old knees. The car pulls like a I can’t believe a stock sub$60k car does. And if you want some spice you can get a lot for under $5k. The only problem is the stock clutch won’t let you push +600 hp, but I bet 475-490 would be nasty… maybe some day.
I was cross shopping the mustang gt premium and the 3.0 supra as a secondary car. Decided on but still waiting for delivery of my 3.0 premium 6MT that’s about a month away from being delivered. Hearing some of the reviews on the s650 brings me back to that point where I’m wondering which one should I get. My question for you is do you miss your 5.0 v8? How did the mustang do in terms of wear and tear? I test drove the 2.0 supra because I couldn’t find a 3.0 anywhere close and it was really impressive. I’m sure the 3.0 will be even more impressing but does it compare to the v8. I test drove a s550 gt premium with a manual and it’s hard not to get excited about that noise. If you had to choose one to keep forever between the two, which one would you pick?
What’s great ab Toyota and how they do so well is they listen to their audience not the money but the audience to get the consumer satisfaction to buy their cars. Which is why they are successful in the car market
I have a manual now as well and I completely agree!!!! This would have sat so much better if it had come first. Well done Toyota! Wowwwww love this manual.
From what I have seen on the manual gearing it looks really fun. Even 5th and 6th gears. With that said, I would guess the gas mileage of the manual will take quite a hit over the auto. Only 1 overdrive gear and its a 0.85. At 65 mph you'll be at 2400 rpm and 80 mph you will be at 3000 rpm cruising on interstate. Not that we buy cars like this for gas mileage. Just pointing out its geared aggressively which is great for performance. We paid for 6 gears. Might as well use them all.
🤣 I'm sitting at 1800 rpm at 80 so hearing how many revs some of you are turning on the highway is crazy. I guess it's a little different for a 2 liter vs a 6.2 liter though.
I have a mildly modified ‘22 A90 and absolutely love it. I wouldn’t trade for a manual, but could be tempted if they ever do the targa top that has been teased so many times
I have a 2022, and I really don't know why everyone complains about the visibility in the supra. I've had this car for 9 months now and have put almost 9k miles on it, and I have absolutely zero problems seeing out of it, or turning my head when I need to change lanes. Yes, it did take me about 2 weeks to get used to after coming from my FRS, but I now have absolutely no problems with it. As for the wind buffering problem, it's easily solved with a $150 mod, and can definitely confirm that I can roll both windows all the way down and it's a non issue up to 130mph. After that, I wouldn't recommend having the windows down 😂. I really do wish I knew that a manual version was coming. It was not announced until 5 months after I bought mine.
@@KT_One you know what's funny, I randomly thought about that earlier today when I was driving home from work. I was like "how come no one complains about the visibility in the camaro? I've driven one of those and compared to my supra, it's nearly impossible to see out of.

The auto Supra 100 percent gives you the sense of speed, not sure where the idea that it doesn't comes from. There's not a single person who can shift faster than the ZF 8 speed and it's incredibly quick. If you want a casual enthusiast car, then go for the manual, but if you want a fast car, go for the auto. The pulls you can make in the auto will outperform the manual all day.

Man I will always hate how clunky and laggy modern manuals feel. Sounds to me like it could use a lighter flywheel like many cars these days. Also sounds to me that it cant handle bang shifting really well... youre shifting it quite slowly and it still wasnt dropping rpm as quick as it should for it.
It’s not the flywheel but rather how it’s tuned for emissions. To reduce hydrocarbons of unburnt fuel droplets that form when rapidly closing the throttle body, they have the throttle stay slightly open to keep the air mixing with the fuel so it can combust in the exhaust instead of just fly through unburnt as droplets.
Can't wait to buy one! A soon as the dealer networks stop their BS "market adjustment" fees, I'll be placing an order. Really wish Toyota would sell direct to consumer...
Well guess it will always be a problem for you.. this will probably be the last internal combustion engine supra. The Supra/Z4 platform was developed by Toyota and BMW to be the Supra and Z4 from the start.. yes it uses all BMW parts and it's manufactured by Third party manufacturer...so Toyota or BMW either one actually manufacture Supra or Z4..it's old news
Remember when the engineers told everyone those fake vents in the door and the hood that have no real pass through can easily be removable and are there so we can choose to use it? Lol years later they still have no real use

Lovely video David but why are people still complaining about the engine i know the 2JZ is an amazing engine but so is the b58.
The B58 has to be the most reliable BMW engine of the 21st century, although they do get some bad rep for burning oil.

They didn’t listen. Nissan forced their hands.
All in all, if that Rev hang could be tuned out, it would be the perfect car
Don't you need that to keep it on boost although I guess it's not good for the clutch
I kinda have the same question that brian is asking. If anyone who knows cars well enough to answer that would be amazing.

Just the fact that I could buy the supra with a stick now makes it an aspirational vehicle. As soon as the manual supra was revealed, the car seemed to double in appeal in my head rather than get instantly dismissed. Now it's a car I want almost as bad as an Alfa Romeo 4c, and when I finally save up the money to have one, I'll have to choose between those two
I have no regrets with my order and excited to get my Supra 🙏🏼
I’m on a wait list for a ‘23 GR86. Now that the Supra has a manual, I want it!
You are absolutely correct Dave! It's not always about speed or how fast you get there. It's about how you get there!🤔😃👍🏻
This car being manual now really encourages me to go get a loan and buy one
I'm glad you loved it ☺️ I definitely want one more now, especially with the GR86 having all those problems.
I have a manual now as well and I completely agree!!!! This would have sat so much better if it had come first. Well done Toyota! Wowwwww love this manual.
Now I'm torn between this, the Z, the GR Corolla and the GR86

From what I have seen on the manual gearing it looks really fun. Even 5th and 6th gears. With that said, I would guess the gas mileage of the manual will take quite a hit over the auto. Only 1 overdrive gear and its a 0.85. At 65 mph you'll be at 2400 rpm and 80 mph you will be at 3000 rpm cruising on interstate. Not that we buy cars like this for gas mileage. Just pointing out its geared aggressively which is great for performance. We paid for 6 gears. Might as well use them all.

What's the $150 mod?
They obviously have never driven a current Camaro.

David I absolutely love your channel. Been watching for years. But I’m going to have to voice some “constructive criticism” here. Now I admit I don’t fully understand how the TH-cam algorithm works in terms of thumbnails, so I’m sure you get more views based on the way you do things, but the “ruined everything 😭😞” on every other video gets really annoying. We all know that the video is not about something “getting ruined”, in fact it’s always just a great video about the comparison of two cars in the same general class or maybe a following of a certain type of car, so I just don’t get why you do the clickbait thumbnails. Again, no hate at all towards you man. You’ve got some of the best car content videos on TH-cam. Please like if you agree so David will see this.

Way less fun to drive an auto for the majority of folks though. That is what a sports car is for, fun, speed comes second.
The auto ‘is’ faster, but the manual ‘feels’ faster. That’s what matters in the end for most of us.
.3 of sec doesn't transform a car to being "fast". The auto is just quicker by a fraction of a sec, end of story.
I don’t get how most of the car scene today makes the argument that automatics is “faster” but then proceed to slam the car on it’s nuts
@@gw4886 you and most people aren't going to pull 0-60s in 4 seconds lmao there will be lots of manual Supras with 2nd gear syncro grind and messed up clutches because their owners think they are exceptional drivers. Statistics and thousands of TH-cam videos can easily refute your claim.
I have one with a manual. A blast to drive. I plan to keep it for good
Man I will always hate how clunky and laggy modern manuals feel.
The Automatic is truly amazing thou
