Thank you! Your video helped my solve my issue with no spark. As a note, on a lot of models the "re-igniter board" is separate and replaceable. Original part number: 2931132019 Now made by third parties as 2931132019MC or 2931132019-A. The board in the video though has this combined onto the main control board and is not replaceable.
@@rvrepairwoman I have one situation that is not in the video. When trying to run on gas, I don't hear the "click" from the valve and also don't hear the "tic tic tic" from the igniter. Valve and igniter are new. 12v and 220v work perfectly. Is my electric cardboard gone?
Retired domestic automotive tech and service director since 1986. Sitting at a campground as I'm sending this ,stuck using three coolers with ice instated of my fridge...until i watched your video and found that the thermal disc had and open . I bypassed the fuse and most of my food is now saved to enjoy for the rest of our vacation. Thanks is not good enough, Your Awesome!!!
Outstanding Video. i am an Instrumentstion Engineering tech and this covers everything clear and concise. Well done! Gloves was a great tip, No fingers touching metal parts when measuring AC, lot of people rest thier hands on the metal when poking around, or put thier index finger on the netal shaft of thier screwdriver.
My god, I have a 30 year old ford transit where the fridge works on gas and mains but not on 12v and thanks to our algorithm overlords, It brought me to this video and it only dropped 5 hours ago. Instant Sub! Thanks for all the tips
Watched your video for a fridge that wouldn't light on propane. Tested the circuit board and found that there was no power to the valves, I purchased another board from amazon $38 Had it the next morning, Put it in and It lit right up. Thank you for your vid. saved me from not having a fridge on gas for my vacation next week
As a guy who spent my entire career in an electro-mechanical field, I find your explanations a little dragged out, but probably exactly what is needed for those without my (our) background(s). You have been spot on with the diagnoses in both of the video’s I’ve watched so far. Great personality mixed with accurate technical info shared. God bless you! Thanks for your willingness to share the talents you have been blessed with.
Emily, Your explanation is amazing. I have worked in electronics for over 55 years. I have never heard such a cogent and clear walk through a troubleshooting process as yours. ( your analogy of a switch being like a drawbridge is brilliant ). Tomorrow I will follow your logic and troubleshoot my Dometic refrigerator that won't cool on shore power. Thank you!
Emily, I was able to follow your logic to a blown fuse and then an open circuit in the electric heating element. I used a simple meter and an amp meter. I replaced the element for $20.00 and the fridge works and is still cold after 3 days. Thank you.
Im having the same problem, it wont work on shore power. It worked like 8 months ago, but not now. Is there any further advice you can give? w@BruceKuchta
@BruceKuchta I suspect my fridge is a 2008 Dometic and doesn't look a lot like the one used in this demonstration. It's in a 1981 RV, but was replaced by the previous owner.
We bought a 2014 coachman clipper in the fall from a friend who stated “everything works”, we got it home winterized it and patiently waited for spring to enjoy some camping trip. I pulled it from storage yesterday, dewinterized it and discovered I cannot get the fridge or hot water tank to work. Spent the night disappointed and aggravated then I discovered this channel and now I’m confident I can make the repairs with your guidance. Thank you so much!!
Well THANK YOU !!! Out of all the videos i have watch in trying to repair my fridge, yours was the only on that spoke of the heating element. Replaced it and were up and working. Again, thank you for being so knowledgeable on RV repair.
A tree about 10’ from out TT was struck by lightning 5 days ago. Came home to fridge, WH, and furnace non operational. The GFI was also blinking red for replacement. We replaced gfi and outlets work again. Thanks to your video I chased down the eyebrow board in refer as being the culprit for no lights and no operation to refer. I found out our furnace and WH boards are also toast and will be replacing them once the new ones come in the mail. Thanks for the videos and tips.
Your troubleshooting process is fantastic! I followed your process to determine where the problem might be on my Dometic RV refrigerator and your step-by-step system saved me $50! It ended up being the thermal fuse so I ordered the replacement and will install it tomorrow. Thanks so much for what you do!
i am so glad i saw this i am an "old school" car mechanic and you make me feel with your help i can figure something out. i will know more when i get in there, you and i together will push forward. thanks
This woman is great. My fridge didn't work and I followed her method and determined my circuit board was bad. My Power Probe read 3.7v at the orange wire but 13v going into the board. This indicates the board is bad. I was using a power probe to test the board which can apply power, so I pushed 12v to the orange wire and the fridge came to life. I then disconnected and reconnected 12v to the fridge and it works normally in all modes. Maybe this trick will help somebody get a few more days out of a bad board. Good luck
Just subscribed. I followed your troubleshooting procedures step-by-step and found my heating element was open. Installed a new one and within an hour had frost building up in the freezer. Thank you!
Thank u for your video. You saved my camper refrigerator. The green wire pin came off to the eyebrow panel. The fridge had power but would not get cold. Worst part is we are leaving on a camping trip tmrw. But thanks to you and your video we are good and running. Really appreciate you..
Got to camp fridge want working , panic set in found your video . Went and got a tester and bought a backup mini fridge at same time. I came back started testing found a blown fuse on circuit board. Another trip to find a agx 3 fuse put it in and fridge worked . Took back the mini fridge and had a cold beer for you . Thanks for your video
As being daimbranaged on a horse fall, I'm rewatching this video over n over... and walla' I fixed it with your help of coarse. Wonderful, informative Video.
This video looks great. And it would be nice to have a little flow chart based on symptoms for the uninitiated. Then then could skip right to the part they need. Was able to figure out I only needed to start with your last chapter. My problem is that on shore power the unit turns off the gas but doesn't cool. I found a blown fuse, replaced it and it didn't blow but still didn't cool. I could hear a relay kick in so I thought it was working, but no. My guess is that it was the electric heating element. I measure an open circuit across the heating coil. I really need that resistance table that you say is in the description, but is not. Or at least a range. I'm pretty sure that there would be some resistance on the heater.
Thanks Emily for the great step by step process. I went through it and was still at a loss. My symptoms were a little different. The unit initially would not light. The ground from the igniter unit was not getting good connection, cleaned (your advice). Unit would light but would then shut off after a bit of time. Indicating a thermocouple. Checked voltage when unit was lit, only got .009 to ,011 volts (or 9 millivolts) from the thermocouple. Just for giggles I also let a long Bic lighter under the thermocouple, the voltage went to 25mv. Checked thermocouple mounting, it was loose, apparently allowed the Thermocouple to slide away from the flame. Adjusted and locked down. All is fine.
Great video. Took a trip in 5th wheel a few weeks ago and fridge did not work on gas, but worked on electric. Love trying to fix things myself and this video helped me know where to start. As of now before digging into, I am getting the tic tic tic, but no whoom! 😂 Will go through these steps and am confident that I will be able to troubleshoot and fix before a big 6 week trip I am getting ready to take to the upper west in August. Thanks
Great video! I had already gone through the testing via a different video. The testing revealed that the circuit board could be bad. I needed confirmation, so I went through all of the tests again using this video. Same results but in this video, you mentioned tapping the relay. When I did that, I had 120v on the heater pin and it worked. However, it was a one time fix and didn't work again. It gave me 100% confirmation the circuit board was faulty. (Thank you)
Very attention to detail oriented which means that it's the best advice! I'm going to try to reset it with the middle button on the eyebrow board (on my panel it's the auto or gas button) , I replaced the regulator and both hoses to the tanks and even though I was careful some dirt could have gotten in the system while I had it apart and I was told that there is a filter screen somewhere before the fridge. My middle led and the right side led starts blinking along with the check led. Do you know what the problem is? Let me know please.
Thank you for a great video! I know what I will be doing tomorrow. If after I go down this rabbit hole I come up empty do you ever head out to Pahrump for service calls?????
Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you. Was on battery and solar all day and went to change over to gas , no clicking. Followed your video and was the board. We are one our way to Alaska with a full fridge What a disaster if it wasn't for you. Flashlight and cell in hand and you fixed it and, I learned something. Again thanks. Allen
Great video and love your art direction 😎. I have been doing battle with my fridge for 20 years. I always get it up and running, but you got me there faster with my new problem. 👍
You’re the best! I have a question. I came back to a dead fridge after being away for 2 weeks. Thanks to your video I was able to troubleshoot my fridge. When I put the probe on the black wire for the eyebrow board I was only reading 7.2 volts. When I went inside to start checking the eyebrow board I found the fridge to be working again. All was well until this morning when I woke up it’s dead again. Wiggled everything that I touched a few days ago thinking something was loose and still nothing. If I’m not getting 12v on that black wire would you lean towards the eyebrow board?
I did the whole process while on AC and everything looked fine till the end of the video but the fridge is still not cooling or freezing. Tried both propane and AC. The heating tube is getting hot. I enjoyed your video. tks so much! Any clues?
One contractor to another... dam good video as well as the entertaining lovable time spent watching ya as well as you recording it for everyone! Likes subscribed and gonna find some more great kids on FB 🤞🙏🫡 as we love to camp
You are an amazing educator. Tomorrow I will begin my troubleshooting journey. If you were closer I would offer up my Norcold for a video. Wish me luck!
Great info thank you, mine will work fine and then one day it cuts out. And then it will work again. Older fridge it’s heating up but not staying cold, fridge is always on electric plugged in.
I'm very lucky to have found your channel. Vids have outstanding clarity, order, editing, and information. I've been working around RVs for years but I tip my hat to you... I've learned a lot! I see a lot of subs in your near future🤙 BTW.. You'd have unlimited opportunities and also have fun in Colorado. Here near the Front Range the wait is often weeks to get an appointment for an RV tech. Thanks for the vids!
Great video - easy to follow your instructions, and very engaging. What if all the tests were "positive" (both the gas side and electric, voltage where supposed to be, element heating, 1A at heating wire), but still no cooling?
Awesome video - quick question - around 23:00 you mention a table to look up the OHMs value of the heating element. I dont see it anywhere in the description. Can you provide a link? I have a DM2872. Thanks
I just found your channel. I live in Las Vegas so I will be calling you. My fridge will work when i override the system and plug into an extension cord but is using up propane. Won’t work on electric. Probably something simple since it’s 2 years old
Wow you just taught me so much. Like, voltmeters have been a total loss for me. You just made it make sense. I think. 😊 My voltmeter gonna be voltmetering. 😊 thank you! ❤
wish i would have seen this before i went to vegas last week could have had ya come diagnose my frig which does not seem to wanna light on propane? home now so am going to order a new control board and hope for the best.... 🤠
Thanks for this video, it's a big help. It looks like everything is working OK on my fridge, it cools great on AC, I get flame on propane however the fridge still doesn't cool very well on propane. I typically camp without electricity so propane is a must for me. Any other ideas on what I should look for? It is a Dometic RM8501 in a 2015 RPod 179. I have tried to clean the orfice tube and jet and the flame looks to be the same size as before.
Really great video, but I just ripped my pcb cover in half. To remove the cover over the PC board - Once you have the screwdriver in the little slot, don't "wiggle it around," you need to move the screwdriver handle to the left. This forces the bottom of the cover to the right which lifts the front cover over a little tab, located behind and to the right of the cover. So don't twist or jiggle anything, just move the screwdriver handle to the left. BTW, I really appreciate the content of this video. Thanks for all you do!
Iam an electrician and I think your video helped make sure I did not forget anything,,,,,, but my control board in my fridge is fully working. I have falme on LP, and I have heat on the element on AC, but still not cooling. I was hoping you could tell me about how to check the refrigerant of something to check next.
You are AMAZING AMAZING and did I mention AMAZING!!!!! Well explained awesome anecdotes that put everything into perspective. Love your channel and five stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from UncleJoeGta
Thank you for this video! Currently have my problem pinpointed to my dometic 2882 eyebrow board being the issue. Does anyone know where i can start looking for a replacement?
Firstly, amazing video. Thank you! I ran through all the testing ac and dc and everything checked out ok. However, my fridge never gets cold, adjuster in fridge set to coldest. Seems like the problem is with the fridge itself is my thought, element or freon (if there is any in dometic. Is there a way to verify if it is?
Thank you for your video. I have tested my Domectic Refrigerator. All test were good, except no AC power coming out of J8 heater pin. The rest is getting AC 120, but no AC to J8. Is there any other reason why I would not get 120 to the AC heater pin. I have bought several boards from Amazon and I guess all the boards are bad because none of them provide the 120 to the AC heater pin. Outlet good, AC line good, fuse good, AC to both sides, and all the check points to 12 volt work. Also, Thermal Disc good, fuse good, and heater lines good. Thanks.
I loved your video on Fridge Diagnosing. I have a unique situation that is not covered in the video and I have not found anything online that states how to diagnose or repair. My freezer is functioning fine, makes ice in a jiffy and is reading about 5 degrees F, the fridge however is not cold, about 45 to 50 degrees f. Any help would be appreciated.
Mine is testing good on all but the thermistor resistance is low. Putting in a new one tomorrow and hopfully the fridge will cool? The fridge is only 3 years old and no yellow leak or ammonia. Next step is turn the fridge upside-down for 24hrs
Great video, however, rather than testing for 110VAC from hot to ground, you should be testing from hot to NEUTRAL. I did as you said and tested from J8 to ground and read the desired 110VAC but the cartridge heater would still not heat up. When I tested from J8 to NEUTRAL, I did not read the desired voltage. It turned out that I had an OPEN Neutral. I traced this back to one of the electrical outlets downstream. Always test AC voltage between hot and NEUTRAL. That said, I would never have gotten that far without your most excellent video. Thanks so much :-)
All caps because I am at my wits end, I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP! I RECENTLY REMOVED A HARD WIRED CIRCULATION FAN FROM MY DOMETIC RV REFIGERATOR AND NOW I DON’T OR CAN’T GET THE WIRING CORRECTLY TO RUN THE DOOR SWITCH LIGHT! I HAVE CHECKED WHAT O THINK IS THE PROBLEM BUT WITH NO SUCCESS. REFRIGERATOR RUNS GREAT AND COOLS VERY WELL, SO THERE IS NO REFRIGERATOR PROBLEMS, JUST THIS DAM LIGHT SWITCH WIRING!!! Can you help PLEASE? Thank you and very much enjoy your videos, content, and excellent advice with great tips. 🇺🇸
WOW!! Ive looked at several "experts" on youtube and yours is the best approach to diagnosis Ive seen! What model were you testing? I have a RM3762 and it seems it must be laid out a bit different. I dont have the 6 pin your speaking of to test the board and no orange wire. My issue seems to be no clicking or spark after its been stored. All other devices that use gas work...but not until I drive around for awhile does it finally click and fire. So weird. Wish I was in Vegas Id definetly look you up for service.
Just found this video!! Dometic DM2652. Did all of the checks and everything was looking great. Lights on the eyebrow board were on sensing the Check Light wouldn't go off. Did all of the checks and everything was fine. Went to check the orange wire going to the control panel and 2.1 volts. (Motherboard?? as stated in the video??) Now, no lights on the eyebrow board. Fuses in the fuse box are good. Apparently, I need a new motherboard. NOW, I'm seeing a bunch of "upgraded" DM2652 boards. Can you please elaborate on "upgraded"?? Thanks for your help.
I fixed my dometic fridge after not working for 4 years and 6000 dollars I tore the SOB out and replaced it with a 12 volt furrion. It works and freezes ice cream
Didn’t hear you mention the reset button on the thermal disc? If the thermal disc fuse keeps popping is it a bad thermal disc that needs to be replaced or something else?
Instant sub. Great break down. Now can you please do a Norcold rv fridge. I'm getting a LO DC error when I try to run off battery. AC and LP work fine. Thanks
Thank you for this video. My husband called me, the fridge isn't working in the RV I won't be there until tomorrow so wouldn't that be cool if I got there and fixed it😊
Great troubleshooting guidance. I passed all of the tests, but purchased two new control boards thinking the first replacement was bad (which it may be) but still no resolution. My problem is that when running on AC, it pops the RV circuit breaker. Could it be the electric heating element is the problem???
I would be interested in what the NRVTA doesn't teach you, I saw a video of yours that talked about not tires subject and tires were on the test. Just a thought.
Hey I need a little more of your good help, just watched your video was great, so I am working on my 2008, fridge, same one as in your video. Went through all your steps, twice lol, my heating element is getting hot, on gas and electric, but fridge will still not cool, or freezer, it just runs for half an hour, then pops the heat switch, but I noticed my cooling system is not getting hot, would that mean I need frion added?
very good video, on my circuit board there are a few places where I get the 12 volts as should and where I don't get 12 volts. This means circuit board needs to be replaced?
Watched through your video and here’s my discovery: J8, heater pin, on my Dometic control board shows 1.6 volts and when I checked my heating element at the cable ends for continuity I get no tone. I did thwack the relay and when I rechecked the heating element pin, it’d dropped to 1 volt. Suggestions? Oh, fuses are good. My plan is to purchase new heating element; and if that doesn’t do it, then new control board.
Ok. First, that was a well explained video. I followed along and I have two glass fuses and one of them was 120 V but the other was reading around 28 or 30 v. also The refrigerator outlet is getting 120 V. I put a small fan blowing upward into the unit from the outside and it seems to bring down the temperature of the inside of the refrigerator. The freezer seems fine. Any advice on that? I’m at a campground, possibly the pedestal on 30 amp not wired correctly? I was also wondering if maybe if there is a fan on these Dometic units.

Great video and love your art direction 😎. I have been doing battle with my fridge for 20 years. I always get it up and running, but you got me there faster with my new problem. 👍
Great video. Helped me a little bit, my fridge is from the early 90’s.
Thank you, superb explanation.
Wow, you’re really good. Thank you for posting this. I a fellow woman am trying to fix my fridge again on my RV.
You got this!
You’re awesome! Thank you so much for this video.
This video was fantastic; THANK YOU! Was able to diagnose my issue thanks to you great step-by step checkpoints!
I did the whole process while on AC and everything looked fine till the end of the video but the fridge is still not cooling or freezing. Tried both propane and AC. The heating tube is getting hot. I enjoyed your video. tks so much! Any clues?
Everyone is right by the way most clear concise job of getting through it all. Keep up the good work you viewership will increase
All makes perfect sense. Here we go ....!!!!! 😎😎😎 Thank you !!!
I’m overwhelmed with work in LV as it is! 😂
Good work 😉. How important is the leveling of the vehicle for fridge to operate properly
Great video - easy to follow your instructions, and very engaging. What if all the tests were "positive" (both the gas side and electric, voltage where supposed to be, element heating, 1A at heating wire), but still no cooling?
Oh, Dometic RM2351 dual.
Thank you for a very informative video, I was able to diagnose my problem on my fridge!
Probably something simple since it’s 2 years old
Excellent and entertaining. Many thanks!
You rock! I love the way you teach, thanks a lot for sharing 😍
Great job great explanation. You’re a wonderful teacher. Thank you so much.
Excellent video - well done. Love the popup captions, love your enthusiasm. Cheers.
Many thanks!!!
Thank you! This really helped with my fridge. Also, I'm a woman with Crohns! 🤜
Rock on! Gastro girlies got to stick together.
Wow you just taught me so much. Like, voltmeters have been a total loss for me. You just made it make sense. I think. 😊 My voltmeter gonna be voltmetering. 😊 thank you! ❤
Glad it helped!!
wish i would have seen this before i went to vegas last week could have had ya come diagnose my frig which does not seem to wanna light on propane? home now so am going to order a new control board and hope for the best....
Excellent content. You have earned a new subscriber. 😊
I bought a 1994 flair last year ,and I love it
best path explanation i have seen yet. thanks
Friggin best video EVER, hands down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
❤️thank you!! Glad people are finding this helpful.
You're an angel. Thank you for your explanation!
😂glad it was helpful!
That was extremely helpful, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Instant sub. Great break down. Now can you please do a Norcold rv fridge. I'm getting a LO DC error when I try to run off battery. AC and LP work fine. Thanks
Thank you for this video. My husband called me, the fridge isn't working in the RV
I won't be there until tomorrow so wouldn't that be cool if I got there and fixed it😊
This video was AMAZING! ❤
Very Good vídeo, One of my new favorite Instructors, Gracias.
Great to hear!
This is an epic master class. Thank you!
You saved me !! thank you so much
Great troubleshooting guidance.
Ooo I’ll add that to the videos ideas list.
Great video. Figured out my problem. Thank you.
Great to hear!
You should be diagnosing with the same ground your electrical part is using. If you find voltage problem you then confirm it with a known good ground.
very good video, on my circuit board there are a few places where I get the 12 volts as should and where I don't get 12 volts. This means circuit board needs to be replaced?
Great video. Thanks. Could anyone point me to the mentioned table of heater element resistance values? Thanks.
Test for DC volts across that glass fuse just to make sure it isn’t a DC fuse.
@@rvrepairwomanthe fuse in question says (on the circuit board) 3A/125 VAC
