      I would push back those expectations a bit just to be careful. Apparently they barely changed any gameplay. Just refined the not fun gameplay from 1. Also a few people are saying the last half of the game is bad character wise. But it seems like most reviews are super positive, and it has a 96 on metacritic.

      @@that_dude_cam No, I did like 1, but I just really didn't enjoy the gameplay. And at this point it takes a lot for me to want to play a zombie game. I'm just saying that be careful with expectations, I'm sure you'll like it, but some reviews I've watched haven't been stellar on it. Although it seems like a lot of reviews are saying this game is amazing, and its metacritic score is a 96 right now. So maybe there's nothing to worry about.

    (Spoilers) I absolutely loved this game, even more than the first one. The gameplay was much improved and I thought the story was incredible. A lot of people are angry about Joel's death and how it happened, but I feel like that is the point. This game is about hate and obviously you are supposed to hate Abby at first and then maybe feel better about her after playing her half, which worked on me. At the end I was praying that Ellie wouldn't kill Abby because I don't think Ellie would have gotten closure from killing Abby. Abby is not a good person, but neither is anyone in the Last Of Us universe. Joel's decision at the end of TLOU was selfish, he killed Abby's father and ruined chances for a potential vaccine that could literally have saved humanity, but people are so quick to forgive him and not Abby, who is essentially the same as Ellie. Abby and Ellie have so many parallels throughout the entire story, but people seem to be blind to that. If people put themselves in Abby's shoes and had someone kill their father, they would probably feel as angry as she did. For me personally it was one of the greatest gaming experiences I have ever had.

    • @mikehamner914
      @mikehamner914 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      The problem with the reception of this game is that instead of hating Abby for joels death they hate naughty dog for joels death and thus reject the game because it's not the story the where expecting. Because they intentionally reject the story practicly from the outset do to Joels death they never allow themselves to see Abby as a sympothetic character and so the entire premise is lost on them. Also this game is really for super slow and methotical sneak style game players that pay attention to details. The kind of gamer that enjoys games like alien isolation for instance. If you run and gun it much that is special about this game will have been not just not appreciated but completely missed.

      Wow, you nailed it man. Couldn’t of said it better myself. I went from HATING Abby to maybe preferring her as a character near the halfway mark. Everything she did, made SO much sense. All the haters that can’t get over what she did... they need to play the rest of the game. TLOU2 was EXHAUSTING, but I couldn’t put it down.

    5:59 "...with fresh eyes, and allowing it to take me where it wanted to go."
    This hit me hard. It's the most important quality that's been missing in the gaming culture surrounding this game. We accepted the first game soup to nuts as presented because we had no preconception of what it needed to be. Many detractors criticize the game for how it didn't match their vision of where it should've gone. Well, no story will live up to that.
    I knew there would only be one first time. I cherished that. I let somebody tell me a story vs... I don't know what the alternative is. Half of the Internet is like an annoying kid at story time who keeps interrupting the reader with, "Ooh! Ooh! And then there could be, like, a giant shark, and it flies, and the people would shoot fire, and..."
    Sit down, Billy.
    My 21-year-old daughter is playing now, and she's eyes-wide-open with it, too, and it's delightful (and bleak, and scary, and violent). When that halfway point came, she totally bought into it and got excited, even more readily and with more foresight than I had at that moment (it took me a few beats).
    So, it's a great point. Don't come to the party with your own party. Come to the party to enjoy the party.

    It's kinda sad that people are getting hate for liking the game lmao

    • @blackwhite2361
      @blackwhite2361 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Nobody is getting hate for liking the game. The hate ( if you choose to use that word. But I prefer to use disappointment since that's what it is) is directed at Niel Druckman for the direction he chose to go with the story (plot) and the fact that the story was probably heavily influenced by his association with Anita Sarkeesian. That's why people are pissed. If anything, its those who like the game who are rather attacking those who claim not to like it on social media. Trust me I don't hate the game. I just don't like the plot and people just can't accept that I do not like the plot. If someone has the right to express why they like the game, I should also have the right to express my feelings of not liking the game. People just cant handle the fact that other people do not like what they like period. And that transcends beyond gaming. People do it in politics , sports, religion etc. It's a human trait

    • @systematik
      @systematik 4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      It's because the game features women and gay characters, the alt-right/white doesn't like either and treats them like second class citizens, they were hoping and praying this game was bad so they can continue to shit on it. The amount of people in a few Patreons I sub to were saying a month ago how "bad" the game was without playing it, it further solidifies the insecurity in people.

    • @blackwhite2361
      @blackwhite2361 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@systematik I agree there are people who will shit on it just because they do not like some elements in the game. Be it sexual orientation or plot.That is wrong. Having sad that, I think it's more about how the LGBT element was shoved in Part II. We all knew Ellie was a lesbian in part 1 but you didn't hear anybody complain about it simply because it wasn't forced into the game. At no point did it feel out of place in the first game.
      *NOW LET'S GET TO MY THOUGHTS*
      Do I like the gay stuff in the game? I don't really mind even though I hate it when corporations force homosexuality into media just so they appear to support the cause. Which is what I believe Naughty Dog is doing here. A lot of gays express their distaste for this and feel they are being used to make some company look appealing to liberals. But when somebody like me - a straight dude; point that out, I am automatically labeled as being homophobic. At this point I wonder if people even understand the meaning of the word *HOMOPHOBIC*
      Secondly I don't like the plots I saw in the leaks but there is no denying the game will be a solid game to play. Gameplay and graphics wise this is the pinancle of gaming this generation. Period. Just that I am invested in some elements of the first game and I do not like how those elements were treated in the Part II. I play games to have fun. I just don't see how I will enjoy the game with that plot. For those who make reference to movies. I personally watch movies and play games for different reasons. So I don't mind a movie with a sad story but I wouldn't want to spend 30 hrs of my life on a game and not like the outcome of some major elements or Characters. I am trying hard not to get into spoilers here because maybe you haven't seen the 3hr leaked footage. If you haven't I wouldn't want to spoil it for you.

    • @peko3050
      @peko3050 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@blackwhite2361 I hope you already know that the "plot leaks" were fake and only based on the footage that was leaked... that had been debunked times and times over with critics even saying that the cutscenes were taken out of context, and that the leaked footage is a small percentage of the actual game. And briefly responding to something you said on the first reply, what TF did Anita Sarkeesian had to do with this game? I know she and Neil have talked before, but there is NOTHING saying that she influenced the game like wtf... and explain to me how the LGBT element was "shoved" onto the game. Please explain this... when I have seen nothing to back that statement and, in fact, have seen reviewers stating that non of that is forced and the element of Ellie being a lesbian is actually shown in a pretty natural way.

      You’re right about what you said, the toxic issue is people are actually putting in effort to ruin the game for others. In this case, you can tell me different but you cannot convince me otherwise, that’s how I tend to agree to disagree. But the toxicity that someone goes through a lot of energy that can be put elsewhere, put into trying to ruin it for others is irresponsible.

      I agree. As the last Jedi aged though, I warmed up to it a bit more so I hope that happens with TLOU 2. The writing was super cheese ball at times with the repeated cliches and heavy handed themes. Greg is right though, characters are great (for the most part) technically great, accessibility options are great, fun gameplay, but it overstays it's welcome as the gameplay and dialogue become repetitive towards the end. The whole reliance on flashbacks is so annoying because they add so much to Joel's death and it's so weird that they killed the character then made it satisfying a dozen hours later. Tyler the fact that you immediately assume OPs problem shows that you need to listen and pay attention to people who have legit criticism. They probably should have got at least one person with a slightly different opinion.

    Hi Greg, I have an important question: if I want to look every corner of the game and find most of the manuals and other collectible stuff, will I lose the tension and rythme of the story ? I mean if I spend lotta time in each level for my first playthrough, will it come to a point that the narrative and cut scense lost their meaning ?

      Sad isn’t it? This game pushes the medium so far forward in every respect, but unfortunately the subject matter is too mature for the majority of the gaming audience I guess. All people can see is “revenge is bad” which not even remotely close to the point of this game. Plus they have such a boner for Joel which they are unable to let go of. I could understand if Joel was a standard hero but he is far from it. It’s sad the gaming community cannot open their minds. It shows how closed minded they continue to be. I really feel bad for Naughty Dog and Neil who so plainly poured their hearts and souls into this project and half the people just turn around and call awful, lazy, garbage, etc. Mostly because the subject matter clearly flew over their heads

    I just started my 2nd play through of this game and what Steimer says in this review about not letting the internet ruin her experience is resonating with me SO HARD right now lol.. I think she mentioned how she was able to ignore the internet and be willing to let the game take her where it wants and yeah, I'm having the same experience now that the internet has quieted down and it's just so damn good. Like I can't really articulate in an - off the top of the head TH-cam comment, but it's flat out amazing. I can't agree that it is Naughty Dog's best. The first game was better. Part II was really good, but I think the original game was able to bring me a wider array of emotions. Part II was only about sadness and anger. I thought the original game had more hook moments as well, the moments you want to look up on TH-cam and see other people's first time reactions to them. I thought the music was its own character in the original too, while it was a little too forced in Part II. Part II also dragged on at the end, and that was probably intentional.

    • @TheHOOfan1
      @TheHOOfan1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, as someone who did the game almost 100% stealth, and like Kristine, I will sit and watch an enemy for minutes, they usually did have a set path to follow. It may have been complicated, or they may have started out in another location and traveled one time on a path to get to their set path, but they usually had a set path until alerted.
      I definitely felt there were moments where it was obvious it was game. Like the way the enemies would react when they found multiple bodies in a row, and blurt out the same line of dialogue seconds apart.
      What really ticked me off, was my AI allies running around when I was in stealth mode, and knocking me off a wall I was hiding behind right into the path of an enemy. Why do my AI allies need to run around when I am still?

    • @TheHOOfan1
      @TheHOOfan1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The one part of the game where I thought someone just swung out of character was
      spoiler below
      When Tommy came and got pissed at Ellie for not wanting to go after Abby in Santa Barbara. At the beginning of the game, Tommy almost seemed reluctant to get Ellie involved, and seemed reluctant to get revenge himself. After all the crap they went through I thought it was odd the way he snapped at her. I guess nearly being killed, and losing an eye and probably part of his brain might have done that to him. Plus there is just a lot of story we didn't get to see between Abby leaving him for dead in Seattle and when he arrived at Ellie and Dina's farm.

    Speaking of the ai in this game. I played on survival diffeculty and intially i wasnt able to find a way to exploit the ai because it's some of the best ai in any video game ever if not the best. Eventually i was able find areas where i could make for Choke points where i could funnel them in like on top of a roof car park etc , but even then you have to be careful because the Levels and the structures are built so they can Flank you. The best Choke points to funnel enemies are garage with one ladder then you know where they will come and you can sit and hide behind cover and kite them around until they turn their back for stealth kill.

    You cannot trust many of these guys, those in the media that is..
    Corporate sites are hugely dependent on high profile titles such as this because they equal hits; the more hits, the more attractive the site will be to advertisers & sponsors. The revenue generated from residuals is huge. Falling out with a publisher will mean losses, a lot of them.
    Access. Then there's privilege that are the 'access' benefits, journalists love their (early) review copies, their (paid for) trips to studios, press & launch events, the copious amount of freebies, the exclusive interviews. Many of these journalists cast aside their integrity & professionalism in order to maintain good relations. 50 sites have given this game the perfect score, yet when you read many of these reviews, it's apparent that not only is the game not perfect, its far from it.
    Bonuses. Developers are known to receive bonuses based on review scores. There was a case where the Fallout: New Vegas developers missed out on their dividends because the game fell one percent shy of its review target. Some 'Journalists'-- because they are pally and sympathetic (crunch culture) towards developers -- might inflate their scores to help the game makers score their bonus. Admirable if so, but it's another case of failing your readers/viewers.
    A reviewers political leanings can also factor in to a positive score; if a game features 'progressive' values - female lead, sidelining 'toxic' white males, elevating lgbtq characters, multi ethnic representation, a critique of capitalism (ironic given how much these journalists/companies benefit from the free market system), pushing the systemic hate narrative towards women, ,ethnic minorities, homosexuals & the trans community, portraying religion in a poor light & so on...... the activ..journalist will be inclined to dish out a high score. Conversely, we see games that are historically accurate receiving negative attention because they don't retrofit the cultural make up of 21st century Western society into games that were set half a millennia ago: case in point Eurogamer's Review of Kingdom Come Deliverance, in which they were upset at the games lack of representation?? If they're being morally/intellectually consistent they will mark down Ghost of Tsushima if that game does not feature a racially diverse set of characters/NPC's.
    Virtue signalling to appease the progressive hivemind mentality that is so pervasive among their peers & on social media, particularly the likes of those on Twitter.
    Progressive reviewers love to upset those who do not comply with their world views. They will deliberately score progressive/woke games higher to annoy those whom they perceive & paint (with such broad strokes) as being toxic, racist, sexist, problematic, haters etc. They also push these high scores out in an effort to see their progressive messages being amplified, another avenue for social conditioning. A good example of this was the overly generous scores that were given to the objectively mediocre film, Captain Marvel.

    I love the subway section. I was able to get through it with out fighting anyone in my second run of the game. When the WLF were looking for Ellie and Dina I through a brick at the wall and the clickers ran out to investigate the sound and the WLF ran to that location and got attacked. Whilst the clickers were eating them I sneaked through the train carriages and opened the door without any problems loved it. First time I played did not run so smoothly. I love this game for its replayability. I literally have discovered brand new locations in my second run through.

    It was almost MGSV, but there weren't enough ranged stealth options (until the end). Unless you're going guns blazing or are playing on lower resource difficulty, you're having to sneak all the way up to enemies too much. Still a great game though.

      @Honk Honk Hey man, shit like this is subjective, for example.. Shawshank redemption one of the greatest movies out there-- intrudeced the movie to two of my friends.. One thought it was "alright" the other slept through a few scenes due to the fact that it was "boring" however that doesn't take away from the fact that it's a highly acclaimed movie. My word of advice, find a reviewer that you trust and generally has the same subjective views as you or make your own decision, I go with the second option.. If I had listened to the reviews I probably wouldn't have played Days gone (a highly anticipated playstation exclusive)-- I understand why people didn't like it but I was surprised how much fun I had, maybe I went in with low expectations.
      ND hasn't disappointed me in a long time, maybe uncharted 3 slightly but so far they have produced some of the greatest games for playstation and based on that I'm going to buy the game but that's my opinion.

      The one thing Naughty Dog can be greatly credited for of which they have a consistent track record for is literally EVERYTHING ELSE.
      Who they chose in their voice cast, the choice actors performances themselves, the detailed environments, scenery, and worlds, the stealth and gameplay is usually always pretty good, and the music/ compositions for each game is almost always fantastic.
      In terms of everything else, yeah, Naughty dog games can be a masterpiece in terms of the artistry. It's that story though.... That's where it may keep it from being a complete masterpiece.

    • @fbiopenup846

      UpintheAir1395 it was actually the story that carried part 1 and the way I would phrase it is that the gameplay was just ‘there’. I just started giving MGSV another chance, that game is so disappointing and definitely last place in the series ranking. The game does allow you to just escape fights and run to where you need to go. The reason I usually systematically killed everyone and their dog was so I could take my time and comb through the area for resources and letters that would give clues for safe combinations and other information that would tell me more about the games world and story. Now that I’m playing new game plus mode and have the training books and gun upgrades I will probably try to escape and run more to avoid fighting WLF and scars.
