Thanks for this video. I just got into a relationship and i’ve been feeling a sense of inadequacy, low self esteem/confidence, etc and it’s all due to my negative thoughts. I’ve read up on mindfulness meditation and i came across journaling. I’m starting to feel the benefits of the meditation but combined with journaling, i feel like this will help me get back on my feet and restore my confidence :-)

Thank you So much for this! I just Finished a two month course based on MBSR and was struggling to get a concrete plan of how to manage all the meditations and when to do what; this would be helpful for understanding what I'm doing currently. It would be great if you could share any suggestions on how to decide what meditation I do, because, right now, I'm just randomly doing whatever comes to my mind at the moment and thus I Don't know if I've made any progress on any of the different types of meditation. Thanks again for this and all other videos that you give out for free! You are a genuine embodiment of the loving-kindness that I'm trying to inculcate everyday!

So happy to make this video! I find journalling after meditation SO helpful, AND it helps a lot of students. As for deciding what mediation to do, I personally find it is good to keep it flexible (i.e., decide what you need the day-of) OR set an overall intention - but to be quite purposeful or intentional about this, either way. As such, both start by understanding what you want out of meditation overall - at least "for now". So, for example, if you feel like you want to do some self-care and healing (set a timeframe - let's say for the next month or so), then perhaps it makes sense to be flexible day to do. If that's the case, when you sit for meditation, take the first few moments to connect with your breath and then body and then ask yourself "what do I need today" and see what arises. Let THAT (purposeful intention) guide what you then choose to do. So, it is slightly less "random" but not entirely planned either. Otherwise, let's say you have a more specific overall intention such as "develop more compassion over the next month" - then you can decide to do a particular compassion meditation each time you sit for X amount of time (i.e., metta for 1 week, tong len for 1 week after that, etc.). Make sense?

I find it SO helpful! Glad you enjoyed the video :) Do you use any particular journal templates or specific reflections when journalling about your meditations? I'd love to hear any ideas (and have them shared within the KOW community)!
