The letter of forgiveness is for sure a good method. Writing letters that you do send might be a great idea as well. I remember being around 15 years old and not knowing how to express myself to my parents, I just wrote a letter. As you said, it was so emotional I basically cried the whole time I was writing. Had I started an actual conversation, I would never be able to say what I wanted to. A letter also guarantees that your words will be listened to the very end, without anyone trying to interrupt.

Wow that's good. I always have problem with praying. I dont know how to pray, how to talk to God. I always feel praying is like memorizing words, and saying words to air. I am very new on journaling, and I think it's a wonderful idea about writing to God. Thank you

I know that writing down my thoughts and emotions is very beneficial. I'm just not comfortable with the possibility that someone might read it. It's not that I have bad secrets or sth I'm just so private. Anyone feels the same?

    • @lavendaire
      @lavendaire  7 ปีที่แล้ว +303

you can keep a secret password-protected blog (ie: tumblr) or a hidden doc on your computer. it's okay to keep your writing private :)

Hi! I'm a little late but maybe you still read the comments. I had the same problem and decided to stop writing because of that. But then I realised that I spoke several languages so I thought that writing in a foreign language in a journal would allow me to write anything I want without the risk of having someone from my family reading it. Plus, it helps you extend your vocabulary because you have to look some words up. Thought it might help ;)

    • @davidzx2292

There was a period in my life where I also thought the same, and because of that, I never did a journal about what happened in my day, or things that I wanted to remember because, as Lavendaire said, I have really bad memory regarding my memories. Had I not thought that way, I wouldn't have to cope now with the feelings of regret of not having done so, so if you are in any similar way like I was back then, do it please. Also, as she said, you can be careful enough, you can have a doc in the computer wich is both invisible and locked, just make sure you remember the password.

I remember my petty dad took my journal and started reading it and I was like, “DAD!!” and he was like, “It’s not private if it’s in my house.” and I was so mad because there were things I never wanted anyone to read in it.. I live with my mom now and I asked her not to read my journals and she said, “Okay. I won’t. But if there is something you want to read to me out of them sometime I’ll listen!” she was very nice about it :)

I just tried your method of writing a letter to someone just after watching your video , I’m so grateful that i watched it today and tried just after watching your video , while writing the letter I found myself being so honest and transparent that I wasn’t with anyone . It made me so happy that the person with whom I can be transparent is myself only , I realised that you need nobody to talk with if you are just honest and transparent enough with yourself . With this not only I have got a friend ( that’s myself) with whom i can share anything I can also find what my weaknesses are and how can I overcome them . Thank you so much for the lovely video . Wishing you luck all the way from India .❤️ You have no idea how much your videos maybe helping people with their problems. Sending you all the love.❤️

The thing about forgiveness is it isn't about saying what was said or what happened was OK. It is about saying, I am not going to take up any more of my time thinking about this issue. It isn't OK, but it is over and done. It isn't going to change what happened, so now it is time to forgive and move on. Don't forget to forgive yourself as well.

  • @justlikemagic111
    @justlikemagic111 ปีที่แล้ว +5

these are some notes I made while watching the video, hope it helps!
Journal in the morning atleast 3 pages which is stream of consciousness just let your thoughts flow. And next in the evening when you go to bed just get your thoughts out. When you feel lost, emotionally stirred up, journal as well. Start with "how do I feel at the moment?" Just asses your mind, assessing life, evaluation what you're going thru, and envision what you want in the future. Also journal things you're grateful for. Be authentic and honest dont filter anything. Always shine positivity after facing negativity, so after writing negative thoughts, write what's brighter coming thru the negative situation, and what you're always grateful for. You can write the letter to someone. If you ever have a grudge for someone, write a letter to someone and forgive them. Keep love and light at the centre of everything. Forgiveness is the key. A letter of forgiveness. Organize your thoughts visually. Plan career goals songs to write branding business ideas creativity everything that you wanna do and plan physically write down graph bullet point diagram. Try mindmapping. Can use scrap book for your journal. Like pasting tickets for a concert mementos a letter just captures your memories. Document digitally thru day one also upload photos you took that day.

do you ever worry about someone finding them and reading them? or that if you were to pass away that someone would come across them and read them? (I do hope that you do live a very long, pleasant life, tho). It seems like there's a lot of personal stuff (thoughts emotions letter ) in these journals - and so that is why I ask

I actually do that :) I am always writing on my mother tongue, so people at the Uni or at my work won't be able to read it and at home I don't really care, because I live with my boyfriend and I feel comfortable with him reading my journal, altho he never does and he really respect my privat area, but most of the time I will talk with him about something and not write it down. It's good to have your 'safe person' :) I also do that thing with another language with my planer and to do to lists, because I just don't want people to know every little thing i am working on :)

Thank you for making this video. I’ve been searching video of journaling for hours this afternoon. Every video about journal on TH-cam that I have watched just stressed me out, that there’s a pressure of how your journal should look like. Like I have to journal in certain way and faking it to be a very perfect colourful or creative journal. But your journals just made me feel so relief that make me feel like I’m okay with what every way I do my journal and make me feel ok to be honest!

"Your thoughts become things." That is so true. Sometimes I would write down in my journal, "Oh this person must be doing this because he or she is that." And later I started to believe my own thoughts that were first written only as assumptions or speculations. Maybe I was right sometimes, but even when I was wrong, I had a hard time getting out of my own head and thoughts.
I think I am going to take your practice and think of a positive side of the situation at the end of my negative thoughts.
Thank you so much Aileen. I have been binge watching your videos in the past few days and I've learned so much from you. You radiate so much positive energy and that's what I need in my life right now.

I love journaling, it’s so calming and you can get everything off your chest and you feel so good when your done. If you haven’t been journaling then you should DEFINITELY journal. You can do it when ever but I like to do it at night because I can sleep better just like she said. One thing I would recommend is to write the date, also don’t worry about writing neat because it’s kind of stressing if you want to write down so much things about your day and life. So yeah don’t write extremely neat if you don’t want to. Also nothing is forced upon you, it’s not like you will have to show anybody. If you want it for yourself and for yourself only then keep it that way! Be super honest in it. If something happened and you have bad blood between Someone be honest about if you did anything wrong. Once you find out if you did anything wrong then learn from that experience, forget about the fights and move on to the next chapter of your life! It’s really important to always move forward and try to become the best you that you can possibly become. You should also think to yourself if you are doing anything in life that you would like to change, that can especially be helpful. So yeah those were some tips on journaling. Remember, have fun!

What I love about your journals is that they're not so strictly edited and visually put together. YOu're just writing in them and they're a bit messy and I'm happy to see someone who is so relaxed when it comes to journaling. All the other videos I watchd on journaling and journal prompts always had 10+ different pens and stickers and washy tapes and created these beautiful artistic notebooks and I want to have that too but I don't have the time or energy or creative impulse to do the same.

All great advice some of which i practice or have practiced in the past.
When I started working from home FT (2.5 years ago) I started organizing my day using an Agenda (prior to that I used to do list). It worked out so great I started including personal/life items into my Agenda. That worked out brilliantly. Now I use an Agenda to organize my life. What I mean by that is it's no longer limited to my professional day or personal list it's all combined to include habit trackers, to do list, professional meetings, personal appointments, monthly/quarterly/yearly work & personal goals, chores, bills, budgets EVERYTHING. lol Needless to say it's grown but it really works. This year i've added a dot grid journal. It's made an incredible difference. I use it as a personal & professinal brain dump it's filled with thoughts, ideas, brain storming, bullet lists, mind maps, research notes related to a problem/goal i'm working on just everything & it's helped me keep my thoughts organized. It works like a download or hard drive for my brain & I do it as the need arrises. It prevents me from feeling overwhelmed by my thoughts, an idea, project, or task etc. I'd recommend everyone try it.
I've also practiced the write a letter method you spoke on. I don't religiously use it but anytime i'm feeling a particular way about my significant other (usually @ a cross roads). I've written a letter to them about my their actions, circumstances, &/or my feelings towards a particular event then i keep it around for a limited amount of time re-read it & marinate on my feelings, what options i have, & make a decision in the name of self interest aka my happiness. It's helped me organize my thoughts, feelings & prioritize/make an action plan.
I'm going to try that 30 question pdf. Thanks for filming this. I subbed.

thank you for using subtitles in your video's I can't hear properly so it's nice when people use subtitles, you may not think it's much however to people who can't hear it means a lot to us I find so many youtubers including medical professionals who don't include subtitles in their videos, I also want to start journalling I think it would help me with my mental health as well as brain injuries, I have long term and short term memory loss which means I have missing memories from years ago (prior to my injury) and I lose memories since my injury so I sort of regret not having started sooner, but new year new me sort of, well suppose new year new habits

Thank you SO VERY MUCH for the prompts. Every time I've started to journal, I've found myself looking at a blank screen or paper. Been told for years journaling is a good way to release things or figure your inner thoughts, but I've never felt like I'd have anything interesting to say. "Today I.. hung out with my dogs, ate a baked potato, and cleaned the house." Stuff like that. Like you need to be interesting and have an exciting life to journal. Thank you again for all your time and energy helping us!

So there was, just thinking of
ways to come out of myself while trying to convey my thoughts effectively
though the fading art of writing. I searched online for some valuable insight,
just trying to see what I find and possibly learn something new. Mind you,
there is a lot of information out there jeez! Well anyways then I stumbled across
you on TH-cam discussing - how to journal-. I must admit you offered some great
points and your presentation was very well articulated. Your words are actually
immensely intriguing, and I can sense a strong genuineness in them. There is so
much passion in the way you speak; it complements such a fond face.
I am far from home, and I am a soldier
deployed who has plenty of time to contemplate and write. I have started journaling a few months for the
first time to see where it would take me. I am not new to transferring what’s
on my mind and expressing myself, but this truly helped. Let me stop there,
thank you I enjoyed listening to you.

I am watching your video for the first time and I love how you mentioned writing a letter of forgiveness to someone. That's something I plan to start doing from now on, only my journaling method is different from an average everyday diary journal that most people think about. I have several average journaling entries in my journal/diary thing, but the past few entries, I've changed how I wrote them out. I took my journal in a new direction and turned it into a prayer journal. I can't remember where I even got the idea the other day to look up "prayer journal" online, but I did it and even though I just started today, I am so grateful that I did it because I feel like this will be something positive for me. I have to work on the forgiveness thing, so I may start doing that in a similar way even though my journal is a prayer journal. I'm going to focus on the forgiveness letters that you've mentioned - I may start writing a letter or two a week in that style because I think that will help me tremendously. My father passed away on April 12, 2018 so I'm going through a lot right now even though the immediate shock and disbelief and the painful storm of emotions has died down, I still have to work on forgiveness, and I feel like it's an ongoing process, so thank you for mentioning that "forgiveness letters" idea in your video.

@lavendaire, I honestly really appreciate this video, because most of the journaling one sees on social media is journaling which is always made to be aesthetically pleasing, which makes it very daunting when all you really want to do is compartmentalise and work through things, and with the journals you showed the focus isn't on keeping pretty themes or that sort of thing, it's just raw and for a long time it felt like if one isn't journaling in an aesthetically pleasing way, then it's not "good" journaling. So thank you for showing us your journals and helping to dispute that idea.

I would also like to add that as a licensed counselor, your channel speaks to me not only on a personal level but also on a professional one. Your tips on positivity, mindfulness, self care and journaling are all things that I like to promote when I work with clients. Seeing videos like these really help to normalize these strategies in a relatable and fun way for viewers. Best believe I will share some of these journaling prompts for future clients (even myself, they're awesome!) Oh, and another letter that can also very deep is a goodbye letter (to anyone or anything) to help people move on from people, habits, or loss. It is a really powerful exercise that I recommend anyone to try!

I've been journaling every day since October 1sr 2016 and I've got so many benefits from it, it has changed my life and it's definitely become a habit of mine. I'd spend between 30 to 45 minutes a day to reflect on my day, to write about what I've learned and heard, to try to make sense out of my emotions and feelings. I really encourage everyone to start journaling daily or at least 3 or 4 times a week ! It's life changing !! I've grown a lot, learned so much about myself and discovered what my true values and beliefs are !

Quick question: Do you ever read what you write?
I journal daily but I don’t really read it! I do it just to empty my head. I want to review it and took out the lessons and see how I am changed.

I rely on making the page which I write attractive to look at . I carry the notebook which I write on it wherever I go , I read it a little when I feel bored and I have no mood to write, l also like comparing my writing to others as a kind of understanding of the differences between people’s ideas and different styles.
