I'm Romanian from Voivodina & this definitely has correct Romanian tonal characteristics for the violin. I've heard several versions that were unbelievably off, but this is one of the better versions.
asherasator, i do not contest your judgment but i believe Janine Jansen was the best and you cannot count her in your list of unbelievably offs. Kindly re-try to listen to her and may be you will have a different view.
Teddy They said this version is ONE of the better versions, meaning there’s a couple others they think is good. Jansen could possibly be under the better ones
Down the Romanian Folk music rabbit hole again....it is almost midnight I'm in bed here in Florida USA and it is raining outside ....this music is perfect.
I’heard several diffetent interpreters but none has touched my soul with such delight and shudders like yours (both of you!!). I even had a period of three months where I listened to this daily!! Thanks for all that joy!!!!!! Great work and God, WELL DONE!!!
Holy Kow! Delicate touch. Bartok done got my attention when I was 10 years old - Isaac Stern's performance of the violin Concerto in D. But That seemed all angles and really exotic harmonies, and percussive aggression upon the instrument... well a lot.. I played some of those melodies as a kid, simpler arrangements, but Ms. Lark has made these come to life and open up whole new vistas. THANKS!
I have been listening to this recording for years. A quality that I haven't heard on any other rendition of this piece. It gives me hope for the new generations of performers and stands against the silly notion of "they don't make them like this anymore."
Tessa, we've never met and I never heard your stuff before until now but this is such an underrated performance--great work! The subtleties in your phrasing, emphasis, even ornamentation are outstanding and on point. In addition to that, the way you embody the full capacities of the bow and instrument when it's time to lay into the strings and maintain brilliance with strength in the sound is probably the best I've heard for all the renditions I've listened to yet. I can only imagine how awesome it would have sounded in the hall, what a treat! Congrats and great work to you and your accompanying Pianist too. edit: for what it's worth I've been living under a rock or in the wilds of other music when it comes to folks in the classical world over the past 10+ years or so but my comments still stand.
This is really an exceptional performance in so many ways!! Absolutely wonderful! In fact, as many times as I've heard this piece played by so many artists, this has already become my most favorite recording.
Great playful and mysterious like the music itself, the third movement sounds the entrance to a dark green Forrest inhabited by little creatures, the water drops from the leaves and everyone is in a circle dancing
Have they ever been played with so much character and vitality. She makes each 9ne glisten! A single note with her has color-&meaning! Well shaped phrases here too.Eould like to hear her 8n Bartokno2 concerto. Her naturalness has the first 8n the bag. We've all heard these s million times and they are a welcome relief in most programmes!
Lovely. Splendid. I realize some of the audio may have been produced separately from the video but the synchronization is nearly perfect. Bravo!!!! Every recording artist - even Heifetz - records multiple takes to get the performance as perfect as possible. (Nothing wrong with that)
Such a beautiful, fun and energetic composition. Can viserally feel the dance energy pulsing throughout the work. Wonderfully played and filmed, I truly enjoyed watching this and will watch it again for absolute sure.
Tessa, Tessa , Tessa. This is indescribably beautiful. So much so that my head has exploded and bits of my brain have exploded and gone all over the room where I keep my laptop. In the morning I'm going to have to pick them all up and take them to the local hospital so that the surgeons can screw them back in. I love it millions of times over. xxxxx The gentleman is a wonderful pianist too.
Hi I just wanted to say thank you to all the other musicians out there in this brutal world for reducing reviving and saving hope for all the hopelessness and hopeless in this world is crazy. Thank you. I myself am a violinist in Illinois a war ridden area of hell.
I'm glad you can hear a difference Lindsay ! I was only able a slight improvement in ringing. Only a little in the guttural low end. I've been considering a harp for either my two violins but so far haven't sprung. Thank you for this offer. I have a lutier60 miles away who has a harp tailpiece , I'm just not sure the cosmetics is right with the diagonal string line. Wallace Ritchey an old author recommends one . Am seriously considering it but won't know untill I'm playing one. Bless you for this revelation. YOUR violin sounds wonderful !😅
A wonderful interpretation of this Bartok Romanian Folk Dances Hit! Seldom have I heard it played better. Bravo to both Tessa Lark and Yannick Rafalimanana!
YOURE NOT ALLOWED TO DO AMAZING ON SUCH A PIECE YOUR NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE PERFECT INTONATION!! YOURE NOT ALLOWED TO HELP ME PLAY THIS PIECE FOR AUDITIONS AND RECITALS WITH THIS RECORDING! THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL TO SLAY LIKE THIS

Loved this reminds me of cousin Jerry who played the violin now passed How I long to see him again and hear His beautiful music. He too had beautiful expressions on his face as he played the instrument of his heart. As I went from watching to listening I gazed out my window and noticed the strong winds that had whipped up the waves on our beautiful lake. I could imagine myself at first listening to a winter storm gradually coming to a head and then it seemed like all hell broke loose as the music turned from sadness to a happy jaunt of playing in the water! thank you for sharing!

It’s just so wonderfully alive and kicking.
I’heard several diffetent interpreters but none has touched my soul with such delight and shudders like yours (both of you!!). I even had a period of three months where I listened to this daily!! Thanks for all that joy!!!!!! Great work and God, WELL DONE!!!
yes i agree, i must heard countless ones, but this one is the definitive one for me. can't put my finger on it, why, but I've rarely been so sure.
You both are amazing artists, Bartok must be dancing of joy up there :-)
This is the best version for me. Enjoyed it more than Oistrakh's and Repin's versions. Tessa Lark truly captured the soul of this music.
Szépen szól a hegedűje a művésznőnek ,Köszönöm Bartók Béla számokat.
One of the best renditions of the Dances that I have heard. A very solid duo. A winner!
ABSOLUTELY MARVELLOUS!! Thank you!!!!!

Perfection from both the violinist and the pianist! Absolutely beautiful -- speaks to the soul!

Sometimes an artist will get the first "take" to go as near perfect as possible but that is VERY rare.
One of my favorite pieces of music. This version is the best, it has so much soul. Touches me deeply.
Such a beautiful, fun and energetic composition. Can viserally feel the dance energy pulsing throughout the work. Wonderfully played and filmed, I truly enjoyed watching this and will watch it again for absolute sure.
The video, the music and artists are awesome! Absolutely love it ❤

Fantastic xx
Simply marvelous ….
SO INCREDIBLE
It's wonderful! Great performance!
At the very last bar I had the impression that the power of her violin will kick her to the ground!
What a funpiece!!
Genialidade e bom gosto de Bartok. Quanta criatividade! A interpretação está à altura do compositor.
Very delicately played - I like this 'classic' style of performance as much as I do the more rough gypsylike one. Thanks!
Exquisitely technical, but at the same time completely free ❤
great performance! thank you!
Very impressive!
I am seriously crying. The first four songs OMG the beauty that we humans are capable of.
I adore these Bartok arrangements - this is a gorgeous performance; reminiscent of Kurt Nikkanen's recordings.
Definitivamente, me encanta!!

Teresa's stunning interpretation cannot be beaten.

Lol this happens a lot to me while playing
Oh, apparently they've recorded it more than once
A feminine touch and sensebility, what an audience mostly need..
what a fantastic performance, congratulations Tessa !
Oh, how talent speaks!
Carácter, carácter y más carácter. Vibrante , avasalladora y sutil a la vez la interpretación. Digna de Bartok.

So lovely Madam Tessa
This sounds really nice
Who is playing vibrato at min 4:05?
Illuminati
Great catch! Looks like they recorded audio and video separately.
Wow! super catch!
Ling Ling
Omg, but did they really record seperately? That's a lot of work.
Sometimes I can't help but think that people must be hitting the dislike button by accident and not know they've done it.
Magnificent
