    i have an '01 tacoma and when i replaced the bulbs with leds i ran into a problem with not having a difference between the low and hi beams. indicater doesn't come on either. mine did not have the control box and research is indicating that something needs to be added to the circut for leds to function on an older model tacoma.

    Would it be possible to video tape what it looks like with a car in front of your truck with the led lights hitting the rear view mirror?

    Great video really helpful gonna switch to LEDs, the halogen only lasts maybe a couple months if I’m lucky we’ll see what happens with this new one.

    • @whatfreedom7
      @whatfreedom7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lol my stock halogen lasted from 2006 to 2020 before one finally failed. If your only getting a few months you are either buying crap bulbs or have other issues or just doing something wrong. That’s not normal at all. What brand of bulb are you buying? I know one brand in particular that is absolute shit is eiko. Make sure your not touching the bulb when you install them.

    How did u replace the fog lights?

    • @MikeFreda
      @MikeFreda  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are tricky. You have to gain access from underneath. The bulbs pull out after they are unclipped. It was a struggle. Not the greatest design. I did not remove the entire unit.

      Unfortunately, I have no experience with aftermarket headlights / projector units. Someone on the Tacoma Forum may. Cheers

    Did you need to install resistors I bought the same led headlights bulbs for my 06 tacoma but my high beams automatically come on and one side winks when I actually activate the high beam and when my fogs are on high beams go on. Any help would be appreciated

    • @MikeFreda
      @MikeFreda  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a very odd situation. I did not install anything extra. What I installed was “plug and play”. In stock form, the fog lights turn off when then high beams are switched on. Sounds to me that you may have a wiring issue, relay issue or the lights you purchased are defective. Perhaps installing the old bulbs back in to see if the issue is still there.

    The guy at my Auto shop in the USA said that the LED are not DOT approved. Not knocking but I wanted to to due this for my truck? Do you have any information that?

      There’s an excellent write up on tacomaworld.com about putting LED bulbs into halogen reflector housings. Absolute trash light output with no cut off And light bleeding everywhere with no focus. Get on that website and look up the ultimate Tacoma headlight upgrade. Cost you about $90 and pretty much sticks with all OEM equipment.

    The gloves are ment to save the halogen bulb touching them causes the oil on your hands to get on the halogen bulb witch shortens there life I kept my halogens in the l.e.d. box for about 6 months just in case the l.e.d. failed at night

    • @MikeFreda
      @MikeFreda  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it occurred to me as well that’s what they may be for…. Keep oil off both lighting elements. I wasn’t sure LED’s needed to be treated like Halogen bulbs.

      @aac9001 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      LOL yes they're meant to preserve your halogens for when you realize the LEDs are not really a good fit

    The gloves are for the led bulbs, oil or grease from the fingers can burn the led bulbs

    • @MikeFreda
      @MikeFreda  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I knew that was an issue for halogen bulbs, I didn’t think that was a the same for LEDS. It’s good practice to not thought the bulb section at all…. Better to be safe then sorry I guess.

    How did you put the wire pin in after the rubber boot? Mine wont fit over

    • @MikeFreda
      @MikeFreda  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t have an issue. To get the rubber weather boot on, you need to twist off the backing plate of the bulb. Install the bulb in the light housing, then pull the rubber boot way back. You should be able to get the metal retaining clips past the rubber boot. My truck is a 2007, Gen 2 Tacoma. Hopefully that helps!?

    THat beam pattern on the led high is pretty weird looking.

    • @MikeFreda
      @MikeFreda  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it does scatter a bit. It is whiter and brighter though. Realistically, these stock Tacoma headlight assembly aren’t really designed for this new style LED bulb. It functions okay but you may have better results getting a premium halogen bulb, but they do cost more.

      Might note that these bulbs have the shields that replicate the halogen light pattern. So the projected light is the same pattern as a halogen bulb, just whiter and wee bit brighter. The unshielded bulbs are the ones that cause problems.

  • @Shagfabulous
    @Shagfabulous 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is dumb. You should take this video down. You don't just swap halogen bulbs for led. You need the correct headlamp otherwise you're just scattering light everywhere.
