Nice job tying up. There is a thing you can do to making casting off easier, and that is to ‘dip the line”. When you tied off to the cleat (the same cleat that the boat astern was tied to), you could have “dipped the line’, which would have allowed YOU or HIM to cast off early in the morning without disturbing the other guys mooring line. Simply take your line UNDER the line on the cleat, and then tie off as normal. This way, either of you, can wake up at 4:am and cast off, without messing with the other guys mooring line. The way you tied up….if the OTHER guy wanted to get underway at 4:am, he would have to take your stern line off, just to get his line off the cleat. “Dipping the line” allows both of you to remove your line from the cleat without messing with the other guys stern line. Good job man. I really enjoy your videos. Been cruising on boats for most of my life. From 80’ footers to 60’ footers, to my current 40 footer (solo).
Great suggestion. That is something we'll often do, especially when pulling into an especially transient marina with boats on the move. In this case, we knew from the dockmaster that this boat wasn't going anywhere anytime soon, hence the way we tied. Thanks for watching!
You guys are so laid back and chill, you make it look easy. All of your organization and preparedness pays off. Great episode, great couple, and Jasper is precious.
Another home-run of a video! Boaters like myself in 24ft crafts greatly appreciate the common curtesy from other boaters, especially the bigger boats when out on the water. It seems to be harder to find these traits in captains anymore.
We really appreciate that you appreciate that. When we had our smaller boats we were always thankful but surprised when an oncoming bigger boat would back down. We appreciate it now as well but sadly, depending on where we're cruising we've learned to often not expect it. We will always do the right thing because, well, it's the right thing. Cheers!
Gorgeous cruise and Jasper is one lucky dog. My old dog is pretty old and doesn't do well in rough seas but he loves being on the boat in calm waters and walks in cool weather. Have fun with Jasper while you can. Cheers!
You are a highly evolved technical person. You seem to thrive in a highly demanding environment. Thanks for your reply regarding North brother island and Typhoid Mary.
FYI, leave jasper alone while he's 😴. 😁😁😁 Love the video and I agree with you guys that a lot of people don't give a crap about boater etiquette. Keep on keeping on gentlemen. Oh and Tim, those wraps looked tasty
Hi AJ & Tim . Great video . Thanks for sharing your "spicy" lunch & beautiful day trip to Naples . Really like how you explain what you are doing & why . Jasper is adorable & amazing . With you . Mark (Toronto) 👍🌈💙
I’m going to be boating right here in Marco Island this weekend. We are renting a boat for the afternoon cruise the 10,000 islands as I stay at my sisters house in fiddlers Creek.
Beeeeeuuuuuutiful!! I am sure you have a video on it somewhere, but I would love to have the recipe for your "end of travel day cocktail"! Safe travels to all!
Thanks Karen! On this particular day we wrapped it up with an OLOH-Rita which is a guava margarita. You can find the recipe in the libations section at myoloh.com/
What a great way to start the weekend, always enjoy your videos. So you are traveling north to put your boat in storage, I was wondering where? why? and for how long? Cheers...
Thank you Michael! Yeah, a bit of yard time and storage in Florida as we have some dirt-life stuff to take care of. Not sure of the timeline but we will be back!!
Wow, great production! Very nicely done, you guys look great and thank you for sharing. Enjoyed the first shot to the last, and the story in between! Can you show us around the marina? Is that the best place to stay when passing by? All The Best T-N-T
Thanks Tom! That means so much coming from you guys. This particular marina is not setup as a transient marina for "bigger" boats in the winter season, so it's really not possible to stay there when just passing through the area for boats of any size with drafts more than around four feet. We'll shoot you a note with some more details. Hope your Crew is great!
As y'all are going home me and a friend are fixing to leave Charleston sc (home) Monday to start my first cross country vacation to California and back in the new motorhome, don't know when we will get there and don't know when we will get back and don't care.
Mad apologies for missing this! If it's still relevant, we had used a cellular connection on our iPad Pro up until recently. Now that we have an always reliable internet connection with Starlink, we have given up the cell plan on it and don't miss it one bit. That said, our charts are all preloaded and will work without a connection. We are also now using a Garmin bluetooth GPS receiver as the GPS on the iPad Pro, particularly when in our pilot house, has been notoriously unreliable.
You made docking look easy. Was that because a) your skills as a Captain or b) the Yacht Controller. Also, could you explain (maybe even part of a video) the functions of the YC and to what extent it helps you to control the boats movement? P.S. The Admiral sure made my mouth water with the detailed description (and appetizing look) of the lunch.
Thanks! Experience and a real understanding of how your boat responds to helm input in various conditions are definitely major factors when it comes to docking. For us, it's also about communication. Having Tim's eyes off the stern with the ability to easily relay distance and other info (hence the headsets) is invaluable. As far as the Yacht Controller, it is definitely an incredible tool for docking. You may have seen wing stations on large yachts which give the Captain helm control on the sides of the boat where visibility is much better for docking than being at controls inside and/or closer to the boat's centerline. In our case the YC provides control of our thrusters and allows us to put the engines in and out of gear in starboard and reverse. Those are the only controls we use when pulling in or out of a slip 99.9% of the time. So think of it as a "go anywhere" wing station. You can see our writeup on the Yacht Controller here: myoloh.com/oloh-gear-yacht-controller/
Thanks Michael! The crab pots along that route are not in any channel - we were just in open water but it is a very commonly followed route line and unfortunately, dodging the pots are just a part of the deal.
Hey guy Thanks for the video Really enjoyed it Tim really seems to be a jack of all trades cook, painter, carpenter Do you mind me asking what’s his (or your) background?
So glad you enjoyed it Andy! Tim most certainly is a true renaissance man. He is first and foremost a writer and artist, but generally creative to his core and someone who can "just figure it out."
Wish there was more common courtesy. We always slow down and are careful within boat traffic in tight lanes. Yo Yo’s everywhere unfortunately. Slow is pro when docking.
I don't understand why you don't have 100K subscribers! Your videos are so great! Always looking forward to the next one! Thanks for sharing!
And thank YOU Dominique. Cheers!
Always a good time gentlemen

I love getting up on a Saturday morning with a cup of coffee and watching one of your new videos. Very well done as usual!
Thank you Bill - really appreciate that.
Always a happy day when I get to see Jasper - you guys too! You continue to entertain an ole sailor. Thanks.”
He is truly the dog that makes people smile 😎
So glad you were along for the ride Cathryn!

I raise my cup of coffee to you three,my last drink was New Years Eve 1992.

Thanks! We truly appreciate that - and don't take any of it for granted.
Really enjoy your travels! My Dog Toby could be a brother to yours. Same colors just in different places. Sail on brother's!
great passage! Admiral, I was wearing my "Rayburn House" shirt while I was watching. Fair winds and following seas...enjoying the journey.
Thanks so much! Cheers!!
Love these videos, I vacationed there many years.
I’m going to be boating right here in Marco Island this weekend. We are renting a boat for the afternoon cruise the 10,000 islands as I stay at my sisters house in fiddlers Creek.
We love it there - and thankfully the red tide appears to have calmed down. Have a blast!

On the Ipad pro are you using wifi or cell service? or have you downloaded the maps? if wifi what are you using for the connections?

@@OLOH So you are still in command and call the shots. Great job! Thought it might be a new fangled computer docking gadget.
I LOVE cruisin', but, lookin' forward to Chow!! Crab Pots in a NAV lane??
Thanks Michael! The crab pots along that route are not in any channel - we were just in open water but it is a very commonly followed route line and unfortunately, dodging the pots are just a part of the deal.
Clowns. You guys make me laugh…. So I’ll keep watching (and liking)…..sunset drinks….. cheers

What is your cocktail ?
If you're asking about the OLOH-Rita, it's a margarita made with guava juice in lieu of any other sweetener. Cheers!
How do you decide which of you will skipper the boat and make the final determination of go/no go?
While both of us run the boat, A.J. is the primary skipper. We always make our go/no-go decisions together and have always been in lockstep with them.
Enjoying all of your videos. When was this filmed?
Hi A.D. and thanks so much. This was filmed in late spring, 2021.
@@OLOH Thiught so!😊 We just finished Chesapeake to Palm Beach Run. Will be in Marathon Dec-May.
Awesome! Perhaps we'll see you out there.
Whats does "OLOH" stands for?
You're clue is, 🎶Let's get together and feel alright🎶 Got it? 😎
Ahhhhh!! One Love. One Heart!!
Wish there was more common courtesy. We always slow down and are careful within boat traffic in tight lanes. Yo Yo’s everywhere unfortunately. Slow is pro when docking.
We are right there with you Jim. And we think how a someone operates a boat tells you a lot about what they're like as a person. Cheers!
Awww Jasper, just let me sleep 😴 💤
Lekker man lekker
Bedankt!
Slow=Pro :) Cheers... Stay safe...
😎
Thanks - and cheers to you!
Sorry but the neckline of that tee shirt is about done - let it go. . . .
🤣
I noticed that you’re wearing a wedding band, are you to a couple?
😊
where are the girls
