      Haylie, it is so exciting that you are going to begin learning how to play the flute! It is also neat that your mom still has her flute from 1975. My first suggestion to you is to take the flute in to a flute technician for a tune-up- that way you can be sure that as you begin learning your flute will be able to play properly and well. Good luck! ~Rebecca

    Hi Rebecca, even though I play the concert flute only in the first two octaves (I defer that third octave for those who play first flute) I personally find it a lot easier to play notes in the upper register than in the lower register. Happy fluting! 😊 ♫

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Christopher, for some people playing the high notes are easier because it takes more relaxed and trained muscles to get the lowest notes out with a clear tone. However, the highest notes on the flute are equally difficult because they require control and proper mouth adjustments. With lots of practice you can do it all! ~Rebecca

    James Galway doesn't cover the open end of the head joint to practise this. It makes it harder but is effective. What would you recommend?

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you’re using your head joint and learning how it can help you become a better flute player. I suggest you learn how to play with just the head joint both with a covered end and an open end. It’s really good, quick education.
      I have exercises and lessons to help you with both of these inside the members area at LearnFluteOnline.com - hope you’ll join us there. Have a fun week!

    I have been playing the flute for 4 years almost and I keep having a problem with my D’s and F’s I cant play a F if my like counted on it I always have to push my keys harder and blow way harder and it gets harder each time any tips?

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for your comment. It sounds to me like your pads may need to be replaced. My advice for you is to take your flute to a technician so you can continue learning and improving without having to worry about pushing and blowing harder. Good luck! ~Rebecca

    Hello Rebecca. Is that the only _correct way_ to make register changes on flute? Would you suggest that this is the technique all professional flutists use even if it doesn't show up in their facial movements explicitly?

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      John, great question! The more advanced you get the more efficient you are in your air direction, speed, and other tiny muscle movements. it get's less and less noticeable on a more advanced person. But I assure you, they are doing it. ~Rebecca

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Katie! Yeah, those high notes can be difficult at first, but it can get easier with some good instruction and time. There a few things that have to be happening at the same time. Make sure you're using really fast air speed as a place to start. Keeping a loose embouchure and small tone hole will help, too! Come to learnfluteonline.com for all of the learning tutorials & and awesome community. And good luck with that last C! ~Rebecca

      You can learn to play with a smaller hole... teeny tiny. This will help your loudness issue. There's a pretty good recipe to make your sound really full yet not too loud. You can go through the process at learnfluteonline.com :) -Rebecca

    If you frown instead of smiling then you'll get into position instead immediately instead of whole smile release lower jaw thing. Make an inverted smile or frown and then imagine you're holding a grain of rice between your lips.
