    I think this is one of the best and clear explanations on the web. I have had slips, rotations and all sorts of problems as a beginner changing from c to d but I think Rebecca has resolved this for me.

    5/20/2020: Excellent instruction, Rebecca! Its was a great reinforcement For me..1) relax that pinky, don't keep it straight 2) better thumb position to lengthen fingers on right hand and 3) angle the flute slightly away from you so you can see it with your peripheral vision! *****

      Hey Dorothy! Yes, for sure we need these reminders. They aren't the most natural thing right at first, and definitely super important to our technique and development. See you at class this week! -Rebecca

    I totally love ur tips.
    I'd like to learn the silver level slowly.

    Thank you for amazing clarity and explaining EXACTLY what is going on! I'm a musician and former music teacher, and teaching myself the flute (I played it a little bit as a kid, briefly). I already kind of have an idea what is necessary, but your explanations are clear and concise - a real gem on TH-cam! Thank you!

      Yes, proper technique is so important! It can prevent injuries down the road, that's for sure. Paying attention to our body mechanics keeps our bodies happy, and also our flute playing great. I wish you the best with your thumb! Keep us posted. ~Rebecca

    I'm excited to be picking up a flute after 6 years of playing viola. I'm in college majoring in music ed. so I think it'd be awesome learning another instrument and to branch out of strings. Flutes are such beautiful instruments. Are there any etudes/books you recommend?

    I just noticed I always play with my right hand pinky straight and tensed, need to work on them. Thank you for another great video. Could you please make a video showing how to place the left hand thumb on the flute correctly and maybe how to use it to play Bb? :)

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, you're welcome. I'm glad you will work on your right hand pinky tension. It's a trick to undo if it's been a habit for a long time, but you can do it. I have several videos about the thumb, etc. already on my website inside the lesson modules. Are you a Gold Level member at LearnFluteOnline.com? Great suggestion here, thanks. :) ~ Rebecca

    Hi! I've been playing trumpet for 3 years and I thought of playing both flute and trumpet. Is it the right choice to learn flute?

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +iangel wong I used to pick up my brother's trumpets and play a scale. It always made my lips tight and feel funny. I have always given the opinion that the lips are a big difference between flute and trumpet. For playing the flute, you need to have very relaxed, mushy lip position.. the trumpet is the opposite. I would probably not pair these two, but perhaps you can do it. :) ~Rebecca

    Hi Rebecca.
    I'm a beginner on flute. I don't seem to be able to produce a loud note. If I play a scale it is always only just audible.
    Your thoughts?

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I have lots of thoughts on this subject (need louder tone). I actually have a whole set of lessons I take a student though who comes to me with this issue. I will give you a big hint -- you'll need to work on keeping the head joint level instead of tipped in, and relax your cheeks so they are not pulled back. This is the #1 fix,.. then we move to the others - and within a few weeks, you will have it! :) Rebecca P.S. feel free to come on over to my websites and take the video lessons.. or request a private lesson etc. LearnFluteOnline.com or IntermediateFluteLessons.com
