I had surgery over the summer with a long recovery. My practice regimen was totally interrupted, and when I was finally able to return to playing, my upper register was sounding so thin, even after breaking out the old "De la Sonorite". These undertone harmonics actually helped immensely!
Yes! Traditional harmonics are also great ( as long as we don't practice tensing up just to reach higher harmonics)! Have you tried this variation before?
Hadn’t thought of these particular “Harmonics from below” before. Really produces ease and relaxed “clean” upper register. Thanks !
@@thomasdietz852 glad you found them helpful. I love experimenting with turning what I know upside-down. :)

Yes, I have. The great thing about practicing harmonics, it has taught me to relax. @@PracticeFlute

Handsome flutist❤
Thank you. I just went and tried these...it was strangely...pleasant? Also, Dr. Matthew, why is the mouthpiece on your headjoint black?
Playing the flute should be enjoyable, So I'm glad these feel pleasant.
The lip plate on that flute is made of granadilla wood.
My neighbors are not going to like this! lol
They will once your upper register feels soooo warm and relaxed.
Interesting
I'm all about flipping our problems upside down for a different approach to build new habits. :) Thanks for calling it interesting and now weird.
This is Not an easy exercise. Still worth it though... ❤
The bigger the challenge, the bigger the reward. Right?
@@PracticeFlute Aye.
