Hey, I requested this Gandalf brew, and actually I also have a Licia deck. To me Licia's most interesting quality is that she costs 8 but with a reduction ability. Black gives us access to various effects that allow us to sacrifice creatures to convert them into mana. So I made her as a big mana deck. Lifegain-based ramp, sac effects, other big mana creatures with reductions as alternative fodder, and then payoffs to pour that mana into. Not the most powerful way, but has really held up especially in games that go long especially as it doesn't require her to be out. That said, I once got her out t4 and on t5 cast Finale of a Glory for X=12 with a haste enabler.
@@granite_4576 I actually really like that idea, I tried doing the disciple of bolas thing. Draw cards recast etc, but I couldn’t find enough similar cards and it ended up being a mardu lifegain good stuff deck that while preformed well, wasn’t special or interesting. Do you have a moxfield or deck link that I could check out?
Gandalf's suspend ability requires us to spend mana and a card. The 10th Doctor requires neither- it's not just a way to manipulate time counters: it's free card advantage *and a good blocker* as well. On T4, we could either suspend an instant, or play the 10th Doctor and attack. Either way we get to suspend a card, so it's equal on time counters. I also didn't want to *completely* cut everything to do with time counters- that is what the commander does after all. I just needed to cut all the things that *ONLY* act on time counters. Because Fury Charm can also be artifact removal, and 10th Doctor is also card advantage, they get to stay. But clockspinning and dust of moments do not.
It's a flavour win, Gandalf's entire role on Middle Earth is to help close the gap in the war against Sauron by the closest of margins. And close it was. I've won with this deck a decent amount, almost always due to Olorin's Searing Light and always always I clinch it at the last minute. Honestly I'm still sad they didn't get any of the Gandalf's juuust right but this is the closest. Along with Friend if the Shire but Gandalf isn't mono-blue for Illuvitar's sake.
I really appreciate your analytical approach to decks and being unafraid to challenge established practice. Keep it up mate.
You should really look into breeches the blast maker. And look at a card card molten duplication to play with it.
Great video! Learned a ton
Nice. Thanks for the video
Could you do a deck tech on Licia sanguine tribune? I’ve had her for a while but I can’t figure if there is a better way of using her.

I get why you cut Clockspinning, but why keep the Tenth Doctor?

As much as I want to like this commander he's bad for the same reason delay is so strong. 3 turns is forever in a higher power pod
This. Time is so much more precious a resource than mana or cards.

What a bummer. Very cool concept but it makes sense he’s not very powerful.
