Honestly, if they are so disturbed by the preloved market why don’t they sell their own preloved goods themselves on a different store? A lot of people would actually buy it even though if it would be a little more expensive than the preloved market knowing the authenticity is real deal.
that would ruin the exclusivity of CHANEL. Especially if these preloved items are priced cheaper? forget it. I feel like you don't understand the luxury market and the psychology and marketing that goes behind these billion dollar companies
If I can't resell my expensive designer items when I no longer want them then there's zero chance I'll ever buy a designer item again. I don't care that much.
Hate to be this person. But the point of owning an expensive bag is to retain it, not sell it for resell value. You’ve proven the point that you’re not Chanel’s target client (neither am I for that matter)
@@curlykutiebut why keep it if I already used it and got bored ? Or some people buy things and they regret the purchase few month later. I remember the time when i used to throw my bags I remember I had a lady dior it was in terrible shape and a chanel also and lv .Now I sell them even if it worth way less better than just tossing it. Also it is more sustainable 😅 .
Well some people are collectors like Dacob. So they aren’t getting rid of bags, some buy hard to get bags solely to resell-which I think is very small percentage of shoppers given the price points, others buy, wear, enjoy then refresh their collections by letting go of items. There is nothing wrong with any of these scenarios. I get really annoyed with these brands trying to dictate how people spend their money, and what they do with the items they’ve spent their very hard earned dollars on. If the issue is diluting their brand image or whatever, they should be their own reseller coupled with drastically reducing the amount of bags they manufacturer/number of points of sale where they can be bought. But that’s the rub, they are too greedy to reduce production.
My question is… how would a reseller like WGACA know that the bag or bags were stolen ? Technically they’re authentic, so it’s not like they were selling fakes.
I had heard that whole years of bags are unverifiable by authenticating services because there was a huge theft of the stickers, which were then applied to good fakes. But if entire truck loads of finished bags were stolen, that makes it even harder to figure out what is what.
So Chanel gets a favorable judgment even after its own Executive Director of Operations goes onto the witness stand, perjures himself, and demonstrates the very lack of expertise that should have disqualified him as an expert witness of any type... What a wonderful world. 🙄🙄
I’m chinese I think I can gave some context to this happens In china a lot of people here knows that those who work in the factories/ workers for those brands would use a special marker or on purpose make a dent on the clothes/ bags and they (remove the marks on the shirts later) so the clothes/ products is not “sellable”/ not up to standard anymore so it gets thrown out but those workers would sneak in and get the “thrown out” products/ sometimes they put it in a pile to be taken back to a different factory for them to dissemble it (sorry if my English is not the best/ grammar) but they sent back those products to a different factory and they see if there is still some usable fabric/ etc but often times many gets thrown out so the workers would take it and then sell it much cheaper and so those products are “real” but it does not get a label since they check the items before it gets labeled and it gets sold (I actually know someone who earn a lot of money this way they are not a worker in the company the factory worker but they gave a contract to these factory worker from many factories and most of those factory do Kenzo, Chanel, Miumiu etc together it is not separate factory just the labels are different for a similar white t-shirt so those factory worker sign a contact to “Mai shou” we calll them which basically means “reseller” and those reseller sell things that the factory workers gave and in return, the factory workers get a percentage of it so those are authentic but with label (this happens a lot more than you think) as someone who have insider of those things in the factory etc from what I know, this is almost in every country in Vietnam a lot of factory workers do this too so wouldn’t be suprised in France, or USA in factories

This is the worst lawsuit ever! Jeeeez! Dacob, I am so glad you covered this. Everything you said about this is 100! You know speaking of crooked flaps, I went through 7 Celine Triomphe's because every one had a crooked flap due to the clasp being crooked!! It's ridiculous. The only one with a perfect clasp was constructed wrong and wasn't the proper box shape. I finally got an acceptable one, but I am DONE with buying luxury bags. I didn't notice it was crooked because they SA went and got me a new one from the back, so I didn't fully inspect it until I got home. Then the drama ensued. So much of my time wasted on these companies neglegance and sub par quality. Yet I'm being picky?! No, no no, honey!
@@vanessaa7602 Yep! I was analysing 2 others in the boutique, after the one I got, and I chose a different one. It had some better structure to it, but the leather was so stiff and grainy, I absolutely hated it! It didn't feel soft and supple like it's supposed to. So I ended up ordering others online, one at a time. Each one was flawed. Crooked claps or flaps. Wonky construction/stitching. The shape was made entirely wrong. Finally, the 7th one, it's great, so I swapped mine for that one. The clasp is off by about 1mm, but the rest of the bag is fine. I never knew that Celine had a no refunds policy in store, so I screwed myself there. I'll only ever purchase online where you can return it for a refund lol. Or in Selfridges.
Allegedly, sometimes when you see the bags that are badly stitched or messed up, they’re probably replica and an employee has exchange them listen their back door all kinds of items that people don’t know about you really think they don’t have it in them to change some bags people have been finding fakes at outlet malls for years in other brands
This case is messy, and has to be appealed. 30,000 bags stolen in 2012 seemed like a small drop in the chanel bag inventory bucket. Imagine the size of their inventory after 2020. Chanel wants to have their cake and eat it too. Mass produce bags of low quality, and claim exclusivity when the market is flooded with new in store cheaply made bags, vintage, stolen and counterfeit bags. Chanel is giving me the ick. I don't like carrying my chanel bags I like use to before.
This thing about the bag being crooked because it is hand made 😂 this happened to me with Hermes I remember when they offered me a kelly and the handle was crooked and missing stitches they told me it was handmade and nothing wrong with it. 3 years later same person was complaining about a famous local reseller that they were selling fakes because the handle was crooked 😂
It’s also such a silly argument because all bags are handmade, like there is no bag out there made completely by machine. To some extent, a human being is always involved in the constructions.
Your dad is lovely,. What a beautiful bag. Concerning this situation , this is petty Of Chanel. It seems they need a better control in the factories. Also. That many bags stolen is a bit worrying. Thanks ❤
Loving the tea…soooo as of 2012 Chanel did admit to having authenticity stickers stolen but of a significantly less quantity than the 30K that we are hearing about now. So if that’s to be true then the authenticity stickers and codes are in fake bags but seem legit. Now if the bags were stolen then no matter what they are authentic. Maybe it’s time to be completely honest about what really happened at Renato Corti S.p.A. in 2012. What Comes Around Goes Around been coming & going around for so long that no one will ever confuse them with Chanel or anything else but a consignment/resale shop 😂 Chanel have used Lampo and YKK zippers for ages, but Mr.Bravo wouldn’t know that because he’s definitely hasn’t been on hand with Chanel products, 🤦🏻♂️ Joseph also haven’t seen what’s on the shelves in their boutiques these days 😂. Just last Saturday my sales associate the actual manager was literally searching for a bag for me that wasn’t flawed and was made in France, after she laid out 3 bags on the counter and the quality control began to find the one that’s made right 😂 shout out to her and wish Joseph Bravo would be there to see the irregular bags they sell lol
Uggg! I would bet not many people on the jury are familiar with Luxury goods production and authentication. Luxury clients shopping pre-loved/vintage Chanel can recognize the difference between a Chanel store and a What Goes Around Comes Around shop. I would argue that your average shopper in a pre-loved store that happens to have some Chanel bags for sale know where they are. Also the definition of Operations Director doesn't mean they are really paying attention to each bag design and quality, exampled in the redacted testimony. I haven't been able to be part of the live streams lately so the video is great information and why I watch Dacob and his massive knowledge of Chanel!
Joseph Bravo probably never seen a Chanel bag😂 definitely not the wonky ones they’ve been making for past few years😆🤭 Chanel might’ve won, but they embarrassed themselves Next time SA tries to sell wonky bag, just quote Mr. Bravo😎
Love how giddy you get with juicy info. So my theory around the shite quality is that this is another way to reduce the resale market. They don’t want quality of yesteryears that stands the test of time and can be passed on or resold. They want to churn out crappy quality bags multiple times a year so that people with money can have the latest season model …. That won’t last with good enough quality to be viable on the resale market.
Of course, they must have a record of the voided numbers. They are a business. You see this is why I don’t like buying second hand designer handbags. It is entirely possible to buy stolen bags from those stores. It’s not as though they are selling these bags at a reasonable price imo. Chanel is certainly clamping down, and have thrown cold water on the resale industry IMO. Not good. These stores are now going to become very leary even when taking authentic bags for resale. Let’s see how it turns out when the case is appealed.
Why doesn't chanel just outright and say that h they'll only sell their goods to those that have seriously elitist money of the generational type, and not for the noveau riche or the well to do hoi polloi
Vintage use to mean at least 50 years old, as a "new" category separate from "antique" which is 100 years or OLDER. While antique has been able to hold onto the concept of what it means, the word Vintage has shifted as it's gained popularity. In the 2000s and 2010s we saw a rise in interest with "Retro-Americana", which has trended in and out before (the 1980s had a thing for the 1940s in fashion, while 1980s movies were really fixated on 1950s teenager culture)... But in this more recent wave of interest, with the popularity of the internet, people decided to focus on collecting actual fashion pieces from the era instead of replicas or "inspired by" modern pieces. Pervious to the internet, if you collected a specific era, it was a really intense sourcing job; but now it was easy to go on eBay and locate actual stuff. This then combined with an emerging trend in the late 2000s, through 2010s of becoming fixated on 1980s fashion. But the problem was, how do you define / label / categorize on eBay authentic pieces from that era? This is where the word definition for "Vintage" started to change out of convivence; Vintage is an already known idea that would be easier to appropriate from it's original meaning by expanding it; what if instead of it meaning an object at least 50 years old, it now meant AT LEAST 20 years old, or older? Another category of object (outside of fashion) that spurred this is computers; computers and technology now evolve so fast that a computer from the 1980s or 1990s now a days feels extremely "vintage" compared to a modern machine.
All of this leads to a new era of prohibition. Eventually, these luxury brands will put enough money into the pockets of the politicians and legislators to influence the passage of laws aiming to prohibit the resale of "their" products. I wonder as well in this new reality of luxury commerce, whether a type of purchasing agreement will be required of us. Basically, as the purchaser we will agree to give these brands first writ of refusal if you will. If I were a war strategist and Chanel director that's what I would do. That would be a way to stamp out the luxury resale market completely. Go watch any dystopian movie that pleases you. The end of free commerce contributes to the end of a free society. On a lighter note, I truly enjoy your content Dacob. I cannot stomach fashion publications much anymore so I'm happy to get the latest in fashion news and scandals from you.
Im fine with luxury sellers being the only ones to handle their own secondhand pieces. I suspect they have trouble authenticating too, so that’s why they don’t do this 😂
Thank you dear 🥰💖 I do a makeup get ready with me each Saturday in an exclusive livestream pre show fr my tier 2 TH-cam members and Patrons and on each first Saturday of the month the pre show is also open to my tier 1 TH-cam members and patrons. ❤️
I don’t buy it. There is no way one factory makes 30k. If they made 30k bags in 2012, kept the entire inventory and they were stolen on 12/31/12 that would equate to 82 bags made per day 7 days a week. Nope. No way is there that many that were available to be stolen. There is wayyyyy more to this already super sketchy story and Chanel is giving me big time ick vibes and it may be time for me to sell before I can’t.
Honestly, if they are so disturbed by the preloved market why don’t they sell their own preloved goods themselves on a different store? A lot of people would actually buy it even though if it would be a little more expensive than the preloved market knowing the authenticity is real deal.

They didn’t steal 30k bags but they stole 30k authenticity cards from the factory
Interesting distinction if true. The authenticity cards are arguably much more valuable.
The article states bags. But it is possible that both were stolen separately.
If this is the case, it wouldn’t surprise me as I’ve experienced many inaccuracies in Yahoo news articles in the past.
I believe they accessed the serial database. They stole 30K serial numbers. That’s what was voided

They must be losing money to go after the 3rd party stores. Chanel never should have won this lawsuit.
That’s why Chanel need to do absurd price increase….to recover the 30000 bag sale they lost😅.
I don't understand how this ruling will standup on appeal. If you replace Chanel and use Dr. Martens, this ruling is RIDICULOUS.

Chanel could sell0pre loved and refurbished with quality control and extend their market niche.

30,000 bags stolen and we just find out? Or were they sold to the black market?
Mmmhmmm 😏
Chanel do not want the middle class to buy there bags
I suspect they have trouble authenticating too, so that’s why they don’t do this 😂
And bad constomer services

I don’t buy it. There is no way one factory makes 30k. If they made 30k bags in 2012, kept the entire inventory and they were stolen on 12/31/12 that would equate to 82 bags made per day 7 days a week. Nope. No way is there that many that were available to be stolen. There is wayyyyy more to this already super sketchy story and Chanel is giving me big time ick vibes and it may be time for me to sell before I can’t.
It was the serial number stickers that were stolen….not bags
Fantastic video
