Nice video! I had my 718 S for 6 years (now have a GTS 4.0), so I have quite a bit of experience w the platform. In no particular order:
    1) Get the SOUL parts (I had the sport cats + race exhaust). Sounds amazing, plus SOUL warranties everything for track use. I had the AWE exhaust prior to that, and one of the welds actually failed on track. I've got SOUL on my current car as well, and top quality stuff.
    2) You should be able to pull both paddles and go into neutral (my 2017 718 Cayman S did). It's more of an on/off switch, compared to the GT cars where you need to continue to hold the paddles in. But basically, quickly click both of them at the same time, and you'll see the car go into neutral so you can freely rev it. Then just pull the right paddle to go back into gear.
    3) Never did an ECU tune on mine, so can't comment on that or the TCU one.
    4) Maybe consider some Apex wheels and stickier tire if you're looking for more of a handling upgrade and some weight reduction.
    5) If you were tracking the car more, I'd say track alignment, track pads, track fluid.
    6) I saw more people on 718forum getting the clear engine cover, so that could be something.

Considered the upgrade, drove a manual 4.0 and the only place it felt fast was when I wrang it out on the highway. I could NOT wait to get back into the 2.5! Bottom line, do you think the 4.0 was good move for you or do you miss your S?

@@arr0gant1 I'm the opposite haha. LOVE the 4.0 motor so much more (especially with a full exhaust). Sounds so much more race car and has an amazing feel when revving it out. The 2.5 was also really amazing as far as 4 cylinders go. It felt very linear and didn't die up top like most other cars. It's definitely personal preference, but my 4.0 + exhaust + PDK is exactly what I was looking for. I don't care much for speed in any of these cars, so that wasn't a factor to me (having the early torque). I exclusively drive in "manual mode" with the PDK and rev it up even in normal driving. Much more than normal/sport would ever do.

Hey man! Sorry for my delayed response. I wanted to make sure I gave you the proper reply it deserves since you wrote in so much detail. I wanted to wait until I had a chance to write back in detail. First off, I'm glad you mentioned your experience with AWE. I had a feeling that SOUL had quality parts and it seems that your experience confirms that. With many of the responses I have got it seems that SOUL is the way to go. I will be saving up the extra money to get SOUL rather than any other manufacturer.
I did hear confirmation from someone else that the T304L is better for welds as the L means a lower melting point. The welds will hold stronger and your experience also confirms that... I guess you get what you pay for! Good to hear your SOUL parts held up even with track use. I foresee no issues going with SOUL as my car is unlikely to see track time and the warranty does ease my mind of any concerns.
Thanks for the added clarification on the neutral function with the paddles. I'm not sure if it will perform a "clutch kick" like the GTs do when shifting back into gear though, I guess there's only one way to find out. Although I am not concerned about it at all as I don't intend to slide this thing around very roughly, I just thought it was a cool added feature of the TCU. I greatly appreciate the added info on this, thank you.
I will definitely be looking at some stickier tires as I am due for some soon. I was considering maybe the Michelin PS4S. I've never ran them. Just out of curiosity what do you run on the track and what would you recommend? I would be interested to hear from someone who pushes their car closer to the limits than I ever will on the street.
If I decided to track the car I certainly would do the track alignment, pads, and fluids. Those are definitely good to consider, thanks for mentioning that.
Also I didn't even know I could get a clear engine cover for this thing! That's definitely on my "to-do" list now. That would be pretty neat to have.
I will also mention for anybody reading this thread that I agree with you that the 2.5 is definitely very linear compared to the other 4 cylinders out there. My dad's WRX STI felt that way until custom tuning for sure. After doing the APR tune on the 718 Cayman S it only made it more linear which was great. I'm sure any other tuner would be similar. So that was a great point that you mentioned about that.
Thanks for your detailed response and again sorry for the delay in response. I wanted to make sure I dedicated proper time to your comment! Thanks.

Sup man! I've been the guinea pig for a lot of this stuff already, I'll update you where I'm at now.
I did the downpipe with a 200 cell cat, going catless will likely throw a check engine light on the APR tune, you would need a custom tune to tune that out. The downpipe is a great sound upgrade and will add some power but nothing drastic imo. If you're just wanting to enhance the sound it would probably be cheaper just doing a catback exhaust.
I tried the APR TCU tune and personally I ended up taking it off after about a week and getting a refund. I may be crazy and just didn't give it enough time to adjust but for me I didn't like the driving dynamics when just doing regular driving with mild throttle inputs, the tcu tune was awesome on full throttle but it felt like all or nothing with the throttle. The car felt better with all ranging throttle inputs with just the ecu tune. I may retry this tune again as I possibly didn't give it enough time.
Raggdoll reach out to me and I've been working with them to do a full turbo upgrade, their inlet, and their high pressure fuel pump. I'll be one of the first 2.0 cars to run their upgrades on the APR tune to see what type of gains we get. I will likely switch to a custom tune eventually to get the most out of these upgrades. I'll be posting the results on the 718 forum once it's all completed.
I did lowering springs basically for looks... I have the 20 inch wheels but hated the gap still. I do scrape more now though... Always a trade off if you drive a lot what mods to do. I've been getting into tracking so eventually may do coil overs in the future. The lowering springs do look great and the ones I got really didn't change the ride quality much.
Hopefully some of this info points you in the direction you want to go. For me the reason why I've decided to invest this much in changing my car is cuz it's still a lot cheaper than buying a GT car lol..

Thanks guinea pig! lol this was very helpful.
Considering what you said about the downpipe I may go with the catback exhaust first and then after that doing the downpipe and deciding sport cat or catless when I look to cross that bridge. I'm not looking for any drastic power from the exhaust modifications, just sound and it may make more sense to go in that order considering what you have mentioned.
I have heard that catless will throw CEL lights which I want to avoid at all costs and APR doesn't offer custom tuning so I will be unable to tune that out. I have also heard claims of boost spiking going catless although I havent researched the details of that topic yet. One thing I have considered is something I found called "mini cats."
Essentially it a tiny catalytic converter that attaches just at the end of the O2 sensor so that the readings will not throw a CEL without needing a cat in the exhaust piping itself. I have heard both sides of success and failure trying to use this to avoid the CEL. It probably just depends on the car and I haven't heard of anybody trying it out on their 718.
After reading about what you said about the TCU tune, I might hold off on that. At least for now. Also good to hear you are working closely with raggdoll, I will be looking out for your posts on the 718 forum. I look forward to hearing about your results and what kind of additional power you get by custom tuning to get the most out of their products.
I appreciate all your points, this definitely helped a lot. This had quite a bit of valuable information. Thank you.

@@allenstevens Yes I've heard of those mini cats, I would be very curious to try one but it does sound unpredictable. If I were to go back in time I would have just done a catback exhaust but since I'm doing a turbo upgrade the downpipe will actually be more utilized. The turbocharger on the 2.0 is a small turbo and becomes the choking point pretty quick... We're hoping that the new turbo, inlet and fuel pump will keep strong power all the way up the rev range on the APR tune. We'll see how much headroom was left on the table with the 2.0 tune.

Here’s my take on 718 exhaust:
    - Soul exhaust is just ridiculously expensive for no reason. I’d rather go with fabspeed, same level of quality and same sound lol. It’s just 304 material, not inconel…
    - Fortunately for me I have access to cheaper labor exhaust from China that offers the same level of quality with Fabspeed for 1/4 the price. I went with a catless dp (with a dummy small cat inside so it wont throw a CEL), and a straight pipe catback system. All for just $650 with shipping. Yes h read that right. I have a video of it on my channel for anyone wondering.
    - As for tune, I went with racechip, gained +50hp and +80nm. Took me 30 minutes to install since mine is a Boxster and it’s a bit harder. My 1/4 time improved by 0.7s, and it ran consistently. 0-100km/h (62mph) improved by 0.5s, pretty much GTS 2.5L territory or even faster.
    - I also have H&R lowering springs. Works fine, rides a bit rougher but looks 10x better. As with alignment, not sure why you are so worried but it won’t affect handling, or in-fact it made the car feel more planted. Alignment in my country cost $35 lol so it might be x4 times more expensive.

304 vs 304L, same carbon content; 304L has higher Nickel content, lower melting point (that is the "L"), so better for welding.

You should go for Cobb, i am running an E30 tune from Equilibriun tuning close to 500 hp and 100-200km/h in 7,2 sek.
