There is no shame in getting a higher mileage C-5 most of the things that always breaks (Harmonic balancer - ECT) have already been replaced! & We all know the LS1 will run 300,000 miles! Your closer then you think

One of the best go fast platforms ya can get for under 20k these days. I am putting down 338whp/353wrtq with a full exhaust, intake, and dyno tuned on 93 pump...and thats through an 01 C5 A4. Pretty impressive considering these things stock only dyno around 300ish. This is a lot of car for the money these days. If you are into cars and wanna go fast you be crazy not to pick one of these up. Sky is the limit with these LS motors. I am in the process of building my drivetrain now.
Also im tired of hearing guys bitching about the interior. No gearhead buying these give two shits about interior lol. We want it for the looks and the engine.
I absolutely agree with you though, people always stare at this thing when I am out with it, these cars have a timeless body aside from the pop ups.

to all those thinking of getting a c5 and can’t decide between auto and manual just know you cant go wrong with either but if you get the auto their are great mods to enhance the driving experience: gearing swap from the standard 2.73 to 3.15 or even 3.42, hi stall torque converter, etc.

Been there,,,Got some cash in a family thing and looked at every single marque out there. I'm a Buick guy but they are done and the classics cost stupid money (Skylark GS etc). Camaro's and Mustangs are nice if you need room for the gang but I don't so it became a no brainer to go with the C5. So much so I bought four of the darn things trying to get two I would keep ( one roadster, one hardtop). Not a fan of the FRC ZO6 but lots of guys like them for track cars which is smart as some simple upgrades make them rock in that department. Anyway, Good thread guys, glad to be part of the dream.

I bought an 03Z06 about a month ago. Electron blue metallic, about 1877 or so made in 03. Least production color in that year, so there is a little bit of value to it. Just bought my first Corvette after wanting one since I was 5 for ye olde 40th bday. 1997, Sebring Silver, 6spd, 42k miles- I've put a few k since getting it and it's been great. Now, I'm averaging over 28 mpg, so driving my truck almost seems so uneconomical anymore- even with the difference in fuel prices. I had considered which performance upgrades to go with just to make mine a little different- Headers/Cam kit/ Cold air and maybe some high performance plugs etc. I was thinking that I'd be fine with around 450-475 hp at the crank. This car is still considered very quick- even 24 years later. And it is. With all of this said, think I'll just stick with a cold air and headers to preserve my mpg numbers. Who would of thought? Put the rest into suspension, tires and brakes etc. This is the exact reason that I bought the C5: Reliability, a wide range of affordable aftermarket parts and.......... fuel economy??? I'll probably have this car for a very long time.

Similar car backgrounds. We moved from 37 years of BMW and Porsches between my wife and myself. My '86 Porsche tuber still has better build quality, even today. However as you mention the C5 just does what you want from a real Sportscar where you are in control, not the computers and the safety Nazis. We have a convertible and an FRC, love them both and we will never go back to BMW or Porsche unless it's a 914 Chevy v8 or a late 80's 5 series, again with a Chery v8, but we would still keep the C5's.

I really have my doubts on the reliability of the c5. Water Intrusion issues that cant be solved do to GM proprietary parts. Bad wheel bearings, Steering-wheel lockout system, ABS/Traction Control problem ,Knock sensors, even electrical issues that would put Mercedes to shame...Honestly the issues above would cost you at least 5-6k to solve and some cant even be solved. Granted this is research but these specific issues come up specifically with the 97-2003 years. I will keep watch to see if these is a honest review and price on the issues you may encounter .

    • @thedriverscorner
