Excellent choice. I had a black '99 manual C5 Coupe 12 years ago. Here in the Netherlands, it was a rare sight and an awesome drive. It had luxury options that I almost never saw in other cars at the time (HUD, power seats with memory, active handling, suspension control, traction control, etc.), I loved the BOSE audiosystem when I purchased a converter that allowed me to connect my Zune MP3 player. It was also faster than 99% of the cars on the road and everybody kept drooling over it. The car had the optional magnesium rims and manual transmission and took corners like a pro with the near 50/50 weight balance. Sadly the car had to go away when I purchased some real estate property but I'm saving up for a brand new C8 now. Totally hooked on Corvette.
The C5 is one of my favorite model years. Car still looks fresh especially during a time when most manufacturers are going with the sharp, angular look. The C5 to me is the last Vette that still looks like a Vette. And this pop up headlights 👍🏼
Lukas really the only difference to me between C5 and C6 are those pop up headlights. I think the C6 is a fine looking car but the C5 is the last of the pop ups. Is that a big deal, not really. I think the back end of the C6 is better looking than the C5’s. It’s like the designer of the C5 sculpted this beautiful design but forgot to finish the rear end.

Have the exact car in red. I get 17 in the city and 30 Hwy. Great car and most repairs are not too bad, just had the clutch cylinder replaced and it ran me $1700 at the dealer. Bought the car 5 yrs ago with 52,000 miles for all the same reasons you did. With exhaust and intake I've had mine at 175mph with a little left. I get more complements on this car than any other I've owned.
Had a 2002 purchased brand new. Had that C5 for 13 years. Sold it with 72000 miles on it. Fantastic car 6 speed. Fun to drive, fast handled great! The only thing I had go wrong was the rack and pinnon went bad. Thank God it was covered under warranty. Absolutely loved that car!
You did an amazing video. Very tight and without repetition you get to the point and explain why you chose this car. Awesome job. I wish more TH-cam videos would be as good. I'm an old car guy but I am totally fed up with the boring car videos I have been seeing.
my 2003 has 180k miles. runs like a dream! I've literally driven it across the across the country. twice. Kentucky to Seattle and then from Seattle to Delaware. no issues!
I did the exact same thing bro. I needed a commute car for going out of state back and forth. I did tons of research and my 2000 C5 was the best option I came across. I was looking for fuel efficiency, power, appeal, reliability, and something that would hold its book value. It’s the best purchase I’ve ever made
A very underrated car. Total bargain. I've known people who tried to own Euro cars with similar mileage and years. And it winds up costing them $10K over a 3-5 year period for maintenance and repairs. Along with at least 1 unexpected trip to the shop a year. After a couple of years, they tend to get rid of them at a substantial loss. My C6Z, with the exception of a failed HVAC door actuator, has been a very reliable and extremely low cost car to own. Sports car or not. The performance is nothing less than stunning. As to the interior, mine's held up extremely well. It's not fancy. But, unlike some very expensive sports cars, very durable and easy to care for.
OK, THIS IS IT ! THE REAL TRUTH ! I have owned 5 Corvettes: the neat 1953 (in 1964), the 1957 beauty, the 1963 icon Stingray, the head turning 1968, and my present icon, the last 2004 C-5 (12 years). But the C-5 is the most beautiful Corvette EVER with it's beautiful smooth lines (even better lowered). It is "liquid glass torch red paint", 4- times first place wins. The fantastic LS1 engine. AND the most BEAUTIFUL SPACIOUS INTERIOR EVER (love that grab handle), sport seat design, and enormous trunk. There will NEVER be a more beautiful Corvette. And reliable ! I waited and waited for the 2020. And; "Star Wars" - ugly angular design (+"bolt-on" scoops etc.) from now on. And no interior room. End of story !
You did good. I love the C5. I'm on my second one. That ls1 is a wonderful engine. The C5 is a beautiful car. My 1991 ZR-1 and my 1999 will always be in my stable... You have got yourself a beautiful Corvette at a bargain!
I love the color. Has grown on me. I own a 1999 Camaro SS with SLP center exhaust with stock block and some cheap simple add ons making a simple 400HP with 202,000 miles and get offers at gas stations or bars/delis. I will be getting CLASSIC PLATES this month for it too.
These are amazing vehicles, looking to pick up an 01 myself, showroom condition with 56k on it. The style and body of these things haven't aged in my opinion, and for a gearhead like myself, the sky is the limit with the LS1. Anyone on any form of budget that wants a mod capable car that DOESNT pick one of these up these days....has lost their damn mind lol.
I'm from Detroit, I grew up in the wonder years 50s/60s and saw all the classics when new. I love the internal combustion engine. Having traveled extensively mainly in Europe and being a mechanic I can say with no reservations the Corvette C3 on is the best kept secret in all the sportscar world. People prattle on about their Lambo/Ferrari/ McClaren, Missoroties but as daily drivers? It's a gamble and at risk is your home mortgage. This is a great presentation.
@camjamsdad somebody told me the exact thing you just mentioned and although true, I turned it the wrong way and must've broken the already fragile gear 😅
Problem with the metal gears is that any malfunction will result in electric motor damage. The nylon gear replacement is not difficult and lasts for many years.
I've owned my C5, '03 50th Anniversary 'vette for a little over a year and despite some needed repairs I love it! It's everything a good car should be and I've had a few. Recently I even won Best in Class at a car show and at 75 years old it's my 5th 'vette and I intend to keep it until,,,
I just bought a 1999 FRC version 3 weeks ago as well, and I LOVE IT so far. I'm also a 20 year old who's the first young kid to own mine :). I'm waiting on my B&B Billy Boat Bullet exhaust to come in and I just finished putting in my Callaway "Honker" Cold Air Intake. So I'm pretty much right there with you, cheers! You just got another sub!
I'm 27 and this was my 2nd car. I was focused on getting a c6 but ended up with a 04 artic white c5 instead which in the long run wasn't bad at all. I was at the light with this guy and his girl in a c7 and he was like "the C5 is beautiful" which caught me by surprise I thought everybody was on the C7.I was getting compliments left and right and from the chicks too 😎 so the Trojans in your cubbies is vital lmao. I had a blast driving it! I have a back injury now and nerve damage so I haven't been able to drive. But Seeing this video made me happy tho. The first thing I wanna do when I finally get the treatment is do a nice road trip. Can't wait too see what projects you have a lined up for her. You're gonna fall In love with it 👌.
I got my 99 C5 corvette convertible a few months ago. 74k miles on it and looks and runs great! Paid $12k and couldn't be happier. Of course I got one with 6 speed manual transmission
Ive had mine (almost identical) for about 6 years and the honeymoon has not faded yet. I also enjoy doing mods and updates to it because it’s easy to find help and info on it. Enjoy that beast
Mod suggestions for you: Put a 2001 ZO6 alignment (-75 front and rear) a set of Z06 wheels with none run-flats (295s rear-255s front), you may like the Boral exhaust, but if you can find a pair of Z06 Ti exhaust you will enjoy this car on the long hall better with out the Borla drone. Just my two cents of 20years, 200K of C5 ownership.
I've had mine since 2006 bought it with 27000mi up to 93000mi. still love it and am learning more about it everyday. It's my workhorse with all the trunk storage.
@@garybaugh8302 Same here 7 months ago. Black 2002 convertible 6spd black interior. Put on BC racing coils and 18x9 and 19x11 wheels. looks and handles like a beast. Pops and crackles from borla exhaust top down is the best feeling ever. To do list for next summer is MGW shifter, anti venom and skip shift mod
WOAH!!! Congrats Jake!! What a beautiful car! Looks to be in fantastic shape! Great choice of a vehicle! Can’t wait to see what’s in store with this vette
Good Video. I still own my Black '99 C5 Corvette Coupe with a manual 6 spd since purchasing it at 11 years old in 2010 with only 36k miles on it. You can't beat a C5 for the money. I agree with you 100%.
The C5 is Awesome i had a black convertible for years. however i traded in on a 2019 Grand Sport LT3 i wanted one of the last front engine Vettes. i'm not a fan of the C8. and i wanted all the modern electronics.
The ls motors (especially the ls1 & 6) are great platforms. My GTO with the ls1 has over 240,000 miles on the original motor. I have owned it for over 13 years. Driven it all over the country (even climbed Pikes Peak in it). I have never had to crack the motor open for any kind of work. The oil is still clear even after that first 1000 or so miles after a change. She has her issues as I have driven it all year. Yeah, I wish it got around in the snow better. But point is, you have a fine ride there. Something you will enjoy.
I've been looking at used C5s lately too for all the same reasons. I've seen some solid looking vehicles go for 12-15k but it seems the issue is too many automatics. I do see a lot of silver/pewter cars up for sale too in the earlier years, I'm mostly only looking at '02-04. Spiral Grey was only '03 to '04 and would be my ideal. I hit driving age around the time these came out so they have some nostalgia for me as well as the C4s.
Great car and look good. Bought myself a 2002 electron blue last year and I love it. Low maintenance cost, fast and powerful, head turning here in europe, love the pop up lights too. Best deal on the market for this kind of money
Great looking car (except for the color)! I had a ‘99 six-speed in torch red that I loved! The only problem was it had been wrecked by a previous owner, was beset by electronic gremlins, and was burdened with a rebuilt title, so I traded it. But I loved that car! Fun as [fudge]!
Ingot a torch red C5 and people still love that car. I think all gonc6 and c7 in the future. Love the Corvette history and the pride you feel when you drive one. I got the anniversary edition rims and there magnesium. They made a big difference but make sure you dont get the column lock issues . Stick always gets it . in alot of automatic you get like the oil sensor gauge issue. So make sure you guys get a Lmc5 package and a good mechanic.. things will pop up
Love the car! I owned a 1978 Silver Anniversary in my youth and would love to own another corvette in the near future. Thanks for keeping the dream alive!
that's just you... love the profile of my '04 convert. got the high end package and the interior is immaculate. its lemans blue because its the "24 hrs at lemans edition"... good video
I also have a silver C-5 with over 100,000 miles i drive it every day & i love it! So welcome to the vette club, and yes we do wave to each other while passing.
Nice car I have owned 2 C3 Corvettes with the prices now a C4 or C5 look really appealing to me now. I have seen really good examples for 8-10 grand how can you beat that? It looks like you found a nice one. Right now I have a 2001 C5 convertible in my shop being stored. for a family member he has told me I should take it out in the spring I am afraid if I do I will have to buy one. lol .
Bought my red, C5 automatic convertible a little over a year ago with only 42 thousand miles on it. It's my 5th corvette and is my favorite by far. No issues and just plain fun to drive every time. Long live the C5!
I have a 99 Vette and I absolutely love it. It had 47,000 miles on it when I bought it and now has just over 61000. I bought it for just over 18,000, I've had it since June of last year. Congrats on your amazing car I hope you love it as much as I have loved mine.
I purchased my 3rd Corvette (2001 Coupe) in 2000. It was very similar to your car with the same color and features. My powered telescoping wheel and left bezel (headlight) quit working in the first few months of ownership. The dealer (Dallas, Tx) repaired both issues but the headlight would shake after the repair and I never got that fixed because I didn't trust the mechanics. The car was fast and comfortable. I drove on a few short trips under 500 miles. I thought it was much better built than my C4s. I love Corvettes but can't get in and out of tight cars with my arthritis as I'm beginning to age. Enjoy the ride and I like your statement about comparing the car to a girlfriend. Actually, I enjoyed my fast cars more than any girlfriend or wives.
Nice video. I really loved my C5 and am looking to get another one hopefully soon. I do have a C7 now and will be keeping it, one thing about the C5 though (from memory) it seems like it had more interior room than the newer models. I also had a C6 but honestly just love the looks of the C5, just a beautiful classic design. And as mentioned there are tons of mods you can do on the LS-1, also this car is very easy to live with and drive around.
A real Corvette connoisseur I see, I hope to one day be able to say I’ve owned every modern generation Corvette. (C8 doesn’t count, dealer markup is insane rn lmao)
@@TheNutshaq i totally agree on the C8. And im happy to add that last month we picked up a low mileage 2004 C5 to go along with the C7. Now if i could just get my hands on a C2....!

I purchased a 1999 c5 z51 back in the fall of 1998 and then sold that for the c5 z06. Loved both those cars....I enjoy your videos and your right the last Vette with pop up headlights the c5 you have is a good choice!
Was out yesterday turned off traction control at 10 MPH nailed it breaking the tires a little fishtail, nailing second little fishtail hit third and over 120...Just like dat....
The second best looking corvette they made, right after the split window C2! I really hope they eventually go back to oval or circle tail lights for the C8 to soften up that rear.
Great job on the video and I really liked the one on the C6 which has really inspired me to jump back into a Vette! Love the humor and the practicality that you approach your reviews with! Keep up the good work! Cheers!
The EXACT car (except I’ll get an automatic at my age) in that color, I am looking for for when I retire in the next few months. And YES, because of the pop up headlights, and not to mention how reliable and reasonably priced they are at that age and they just look as sharp hell in my book. Also one that isn’t all moded up like crazy and adult driven..(but I know adults have to have a little fun too sometimes) but you know what I mean, well cared for and maintained. Driving Route 66 in one is on my bucket list...Thank You for this video!

I personally love this body style. I had a 1978 25th anniversary car but it didn't have any room to move. I'm 6ft 2in so I need a little room. When I can find one with less than 100k stick shift and a color I like I'm getting it. I've found alot of automatics but have to get a manual transmission.
C5's are awesome for us teenagers. You can get them cheap, and we can beat the hell out of them. There are 12 C5's at my high school right now, and we only have 500 students. It's cool to see an old guy like yourself rocking one. I got 2004 grey 6 speed, it's pretty fast imo...
Pewter Metallic is a great color. My first C5 was a hatch with the Borla Stinger Exhaust and 4spd automatic. 2nd C5 was a 6spd C5 with a Procharger in Black. Third C5 is an FRC with a stroked LS2 402 and Vortech Supercharger in Pewter Metallic. Love the C5s
I am 64 and have a 2000 with 67K miles 6 speed. This is my 6th Vette. All otheres were C3's . Added a body color rear spoiler. Car is a 9.5 inside and out. Love my metallic red (burgandy) C5.

I hope your dream of getting one day comes true I've always wanted a Corvette since I was a kid I'm 32 now but I just told myself that one day I was gonna get one saved my money and now I finally have one. So good luck!
Saving your girlfriend for the next guy was the best line I heard today
You know you're not married when you can spontaneously buy yourself a Corvette
One of many benefits 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Or get a girl that lets you spontaneously buy a corvette, like I did.
MGTOW
I am married and I own 4 of them among other Collector Cars and me and my wife are the complete opposites. She was never into cars. I guess I married the right one as far as that goes.
BMWg84 I am not worried about it. Been married almost 37 years and 13 months away from turning 70. If I was much younger I might worry about it.
I had my 99 c5 now for 10 years, and it's a fantastic car!!!🤠
I've got two of them, for 13 and 11 years now
@@jackoff1826 99 hardtop since new.
Bought a 99 corvette with 113k miles about 2 months ago and nothing but an awesome ride. Can’t wait to modify it and make it my own
Have the exact car in red.
I've literally driven it across the across the country. twice. Kentucky to Seattle and then from Seattle to Delaware. no issues!
Would you go c5 over a 04-06 gto or g8 GT?
Enjoy and congrats! I bought an '02 with over 150K miles a few years ago. Love it.
I did tons of research too and bought a 2004 with the HUD and power seat option and only 45k on the clock.
I am very glad I did.
Congrats brutha. Nice fun car. My cousin had an identical 99. It was a blast to drive.
Thank you very much man! I’m loving it so far it is a blast to drive for sure!
Upgrade those headlight gears to metal ones. The nylon gears strip and the headlights either fall closed, rise partially, or wont rise at all.
So true. $50 and an hour or so. Those nylon gears WILL strip out sooner or later
@@Jondster i wonder how much $$ Mid America Motorsports made selling these lol
@camjamsdad somebody told me the exact thing you just mentioned and although true, I turned it the wrong way and must've broken the already fragile gear 😅
If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it.
No point in fixing it if it's working fine. If it goes bad, that's when you fix it.
Problem with the metal gears is that any malfunction will result in electric motor damage. The nylon gear replacement is not difficult and lasts for many years.
Have a 97 same color 6 speed and every time I drive it it's better than the time before
I'll be in the market for one soon. So what do you think a 2002 with 80,000 MI 15,000?
Safe driving dude
Cool 😎
I got my 99 C5 corvette convertible a few months ago. 74k miles on it and looks and runs great! Paid $12k and couldn't be happier. Of course I got one with 6 speed manual transmission
Yooo dudeee!!! That is fresh as hell man I cant wait to see what you do to this thing its so clean
Thanks man! Glad you like it!!
Nice job on the video! Just picked up a C5 for EXACTLY why you got it....absolutely love it!
I've owned mine for the last 2+ years and I'm still in the honeymoon phase with it.. I think you made a great deal for $9,000.00 good luck with it..
Better yet buy an '04 Z O6 LeMans edition
Hey mark olson appreciate this 2cents been flooding my brain with these videos to buy a c5 myself!
I've had mine since 2006 bought it with 27000mi up to 93000mi. still love it and am learning more about it everyday. It's my workhorse with all the trunk storage.
I bought a 2004 C5 just about 2 months ago and absolutely love it!!!
Same here. An 03 Election Blue with torch red interior 6spd z51
That thing is CLEAN.
Same here, just bought a 03 EB with torch red interior. 6spd z51
So make sure you guys get a Lmc5 package and a good mechanic.. things will pop up
105,000 miles and only $9,000?? Commenting for future reference holy fuck
Love the car! I owned a 1978 Silver Anniversary in my youth and would love to own another corvette in the near future. Thanks for keeping the dream alive!
that's just you... love the profile of my '04 convert. got the high end package and the interior is immaculate. its lemans blue because its the "24 hrs at lemans edition"... good video
I have a 01 vert.. premium..
With the red accents.. 6 speed.
117k..
I love it.. i wasn't a fan of the vert.. till I got one..
I'll never go back..

Right now I have a 2001 C5 convertible in my shop being stored. for a family member he has told me I should take it out in the spring I am afraid if I do I will have to buy one. lol

Bought my red, C5 automatic convertible a little over a year ago with only 42 thousand miles on it. It's my 5th corvette and is my favorite by far. No issues and just plain fun to drive every time. Long live the C5!
Best comment at 12:29: "It's like saving your girlfriend for the next guy. Come on, drive the dam thing!"
I have a 99 Vette and I absolutely love it. It had 47,000 miles on it when I bought it and now has just over 61000. I bought it for just over 18,000, I've had it since June of last year. Congrats on your amazing car I hope you love it as much as I have loved mine.
Dude I just bought a 02 c5 with 92k last month here in Connecticut . My first corvette. Pretty psyched to see what you do with yours.
Nice car. I have an 86 C4 Corvette. I would love to get a C5 someday but I'm torn between the base and z06 model. Great find
I traded my C4 (loved that car) for a C5 Lehman’s Blue early this summer. So much car for the $. Love the fuck out of it!
Bad trade. The C4 has nice headlights.

You may have just motivated me to buy a C5, LOL!
Yes, you should. I bought the 2002 brand new. Still drive it. Most comfortable to drive on long trips.
I have had 7 corvette from 1996 to 2000 no I'm looking for a 2005.....got to be white gray int
I bought 3 cars while waiting for the tarp to come off in this video. Geez Louise
Ive owned an 2005 NA Honda Integra, a 2015 Subaru WRX, have watched tonnes of TH-cam car reviewers n more than 30-40 car reviewers throughout the years and i can say your reviews are one of the better ones out there....your reviews r honest and quite natural review and u should have higher subscribers and views but u do quite good compare to those other reviewers out there...but keep up the good work and you'll be only heading to one direction that is success !! after looking at prices in my area I'm settled on a C5 vette now. I wanted a 5th gen camaro but their easily double the price. I dont feel guilty about pulling apart a 10k car!

Anyone that complains about any part of a C5 Corvette never owned one, can’t afford one, WILL never own one and drives a 4 door Honda Accord their parents gave them.
@Daver G lol i did my rod bearings the moment i got the car, transmission is DCT which is indestructable, vanos and throttle actuators is not alot of money. ive seen plenty of S65 (4.0) motors last past 200k. you don't know shit.
Daver G my car is lighter and has more than 405 hp. Even the 440hp would get destroyed because my car is lighter and has 7 gears. The dude who was giving you the PPI was ripping you off. Check m3 forums, many people have 180-250k on the engine, DCT transmission, and some on their OG bearings. But hey, enjoy your overweight Barbie cruiser with a truck axle.
I have 2002 c5 convertible with cam, exhaust, and intake, 3 piece rims 6 speed with 115k miles on it for 4600 dollars. Clear title on it. Will make video on it next month.
I have a 2016 Z06 Corvette... best decision I've ever made
Beautiful car. Im buying a c5 next year for a work car. Im eyeing a 02 zo6. 105k is nothing on any Ls engine. These have chevy truck longevity in a light car. Love them.
I had a 74 Z28 back in the late 70s. I did have heat and aircon. Haha
Ran like a bat out of hell. Loved it.
Mileage means next to nothing on a car as long as it's maintained
Truth!
My ‘98 is about to turn 29,000 original miles....love it. Just upgraded harmonic balancer, but it’s been flawless.
Looking good Jake- that’s a nice add to the stable!
Thanks Craig! Glad you like it, I’m excited for what’s to come with it!
He is not that old lol
2001 and 2002 are the sweet spots for the C5 or so I've read. Minor issues and plenty of parts around
An LSX454 crate engine costs around $10k, is a direct replacement for your LS1, and has 650 horsepower.
Just sayin'
Pewter Metallic is a great color. My first C5 was a hatch with the Borla Stinger Exhaust and 4spd automatic. 2nd C5 was a 6spd C5 with a Procharger in Black. Third C5 is an FRC with a stroked LS2 402 and Vortech Supercharger in Pewter Metallic. Love the C5s
I wondered where the listing for that one went. I’m in VT and I was looking at that very car...it was one of 2 I could afford come tax returns...😢
I am 64 and have a 2000 with 67K miles 6 speed. This is my 6th Vette. All otheres were C3's . Added a body color rear spoiler. Car is a 9.5 inside and out. Love my metallic red (burgandy) C5.
