Yes, this is my second Corvette. My husband bought me an 89 I drove for years and then he turned around and bought me a 2004 black on black convertible 6speed
Great post - very helpful. I’ve had my 1999 C5 convertible since 2001, with just 57K miles on it, and still use the two original key fobs. So, I’ve had to replace a few car batteries, which also requires you to reset the fobs. Sometimes this has caused a problem with being able to disable the passive door un-lock feature when you get near your car with the fob. Also, if you leave a fob within 30-ft of the car, the car can start cycling the power door to lock and unlock repeatedly - draining the car’s battery. To stop this problem, I’ve had to pair each fob (as you’ve described), then physically move the mechanical “PASSIVE” slide switch (on the front of the fob) between ON and OFF a few times (leaving it in the OFF position). I hope this helps. 🤓
I have a 2000 convertible,… it’s pewter, grey interior, black top, six speed,… showroom condition with only 21,992 miles . I love the car but obviously don’t drive it enough,.. I saw a post on another TH-cam video that the price of corvettes have just shot up , so you’ve made a nice investment !…. Beautiful condition,.. love the color !

My 99 C5 looked real similar to this. I just changed the battery out and then held the two buttons as you did and it programs with out having to go through all the extra you did.
@@HorsePowerObsessed I agree with you. If you had the existing remote. However, a new remote would have required all the steps you did. Thanks for that part of the video, I’m glad I never had to buy a new remote!
Correct. Only a resync is required with battery change. Also be aware that fobs are specific based on year of car. Pre 2001 cars use a different frequency than 2001-2004 cars. My 2000 fob was not cheap.
Congrats on the C5 Justin... I can't get over how clean that car is. I would love to see you get a C4 at some point, an early one like 85-89. That B Cool!!!
New sub,now here is a car the avg. Joe can relate to.I had an 2002 electron blue c5 I did quite a few mods to.looking forward to the journey.I keep mine clean too but 21 yrs....usually the drivers seat will show some wear.he or she must have slipped in very carefully.
I'll be damn. LOL I owned my C5 corvette for 14 years and never knew this. this video was so helpful that both of my key fobs work again, I bet there are so many hidden secrets on this car that only the workers at the dealer knew about. can you imagine they would hold a customer's car for a few hours and do simple things like this while collecting a 900 dollar payment. LOL. You might also want to do a video on other common issues such as most will find a use C5 corvette where the left seats will be worn. the HVAC display will go out because it needs to come out and resolder the resisters on the back. the pop up headlight motors are made of plastic and will need to be replaced as well as that module behind the right passenger headlight. the wheel bearings will probably be worn. LHC5 kit will need to bought and wired in the BCM module to get rid of the annoying steering column lock and remove key for 10 seconds error. car will die with this problem if driven over 5 miles an hour. if turn signals fail to blink, its because the hazard button is bad. there is a video that tells owners how to resolder their ABS module. they are notorious for failure from weak soldering. they can hold the column and push the fuel button 4 times to get the readout for the codes. they can turn key to on but not start and hold the gas pedal for 5 seconds to reset the oil needs changing in the display. there are eleven separate test because there are 11 computers on this car. the 97 to 04 had really weak PCV issues so go to the dealership to get the improved valve cover with the better designed PCV built into the valve cover. a catch can is also a great investment to reduce oil in the intake. there are other tricks like insert the key and turn the key once and it unlocks the driver side door. turn it again and it unlocks the passenger side door lock and one more time and it unlocks the trunk or hatch, a good investment is to replace the weather stripping. another failure is the oil sending unit on the back of the intake. the oil pressure gauge will peg to 80 psi no matter what or not work at all. lastly definitely invest in the lift point adapters because most people tear their cars up lifting it improperly.
Could the seats in your C5 be replacements since they are so nice? My C5 seats (73,000 miles) same color have many cracks on the seating surfaces showing wear. I am considering replacing the covers. Thanks!
I actually had these replaced shortly after this video and found out that they were in fact originals. it really depends on how they were treated before and how the person got in and out of the car all all kinds of things can determine how they hold up.
Great info, look forward to more C5 content. I have a C5 Z06, so your C5 info. is going to be great. Waiting for an MGW short throw right now, boy take about 3 to 4 week plus shipping to get that bad boy. Can't wait to get the stock sloppy shifter out.
Light Oak interior looks great with black. My parents just gave me their 2000 C5, magnetic red metallic with the light oak interior. I don't see very many in that color.
I just found your channel Figure out how to eliminate the F55 option and switch to regular shocks on a 04 without the dreaded 80 mph lockout occurring. If you do you will be lots of peoples hero. I love my C5 but can't afford $2000 for a set of shocks.
Interesting. Purchased my 2004 C5 Z-06 brand NEW off show room floor almost 18 years ago at Kerbeck Chevrolet, Atlantic City, NJ My # 1 Key fob never worked again after replacing the battery several years ago. Have written down all the steps you shared to reprogram as you outlined in your video. thank you. Thought my #1 key fob was bad. Just never reprogrammed it. Pretty basic once you understand the process. Have lived with this 2004 Z-06 since NEW 3-06-2004 am still learning new & fascinating things you can do with it. Great video, R Maloney Warwick, RI
This C5 would easily earn Bloomington Gold status. Probably all three classes: Gold, Survivor, and Benchmark. I would enter it for sure. Was shocked to learn it has 70K miles. What a Gem! Also would earn the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals award. (MCACN) and NCRS. Send me a price and sell it to me Justin. 🤩🥰
Absolutely gorgeous c5 Corvette. Question im an owner of a 1999 C5 CORVETTE. Im having a no start problem. The security light comes on. I've already wasted money on a new starter. That wasn't the problem. I'm told that I should delete the VATS system. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It s really frustrating to go out to the garage and the car doesn't start.
You likely have a dead battery. Even if voltage reads adequate on the dash there is a strong likelihood that your battery isn't giving the security system enough juice and the steering column/ anti theft security system is causing the car to malfunction. You can also try your spare key to see if the pellet in your primary key is shot. Put your car on a trickle charger in winter. Especially if you don't daily drive for decent miles/time. Also buy yourself the C5 LMC5 bypass kit on Amazon. Do the wire jump in your passenger Foot well fuse box and be sure to do the "Brown wire" bypass as well. Which is also in the kit. 20 minute job and zero skill required. Just need to know how to read and follow directions. I've owned three 99 C5s. Two coups and an FRC. One of the 99s I've owned for 20+ years. I'm confident this is likely where your problem is stemming from. Hopefully I'm right and it's a cheap easy fix.
@@gotmylk . Ok. So very greatly appreciate the information. One thing I want to point out. I've been through about three batteries. Before I learned about the trickle charger. It works well. But I'm going to definitely buy the kit from Amazon. Only thing is that I'm in Chicago and it's very cold right now. So I'm not going in that cold garage until the weather gets a little warmer here. Thanks again.
I had to replace the key fob on my 99 Corvette and when I looked online none of them remotes matched because of the passive switch so I ordered one from General Motors in lo and behold they eliminated the passive switch because the system fails go for the cheap one on the internet and it'll probably work just fine
just FYI you don't need to fully re-pair the fob when you replace the battery. you just need to re-sync it. manually unlock the car, stand next to the car and hold lock and unlock for 7-15 seconds. if successful the horn will beep. now the fob and car are in sync again. no need to go through the DIC and full pairing process.
I have a 2001 just like your except my interior is black. That is one clean car. Thanks for the key fob info. Awesome to know. Looking forward to more videos. Subbed. They are just great cars.
This was an excellent 1st upload on the C5 Justin!👍 1. As to pairing the key fob up to the car, are the directions for this in the Owner's Manual? 2. As to the tire pressure sensors. First off I'm very surprised that they're still working in that the sensors are battery powered and you can't replace the batteries in them. Do you think the sensors have been replaced somewhere along the way? I knew there was a way to activate them, but didn't know it was with a magnet. I'm guessing this "trick" is not in the Owner's Manual, but maybe in a Service Manual? 3. As to the mag ride option that it has. Is there a way that you can determine if in fact all four shocks are still functioning? My guess would be just to check for leakage, but maybe there is another way as well? 4. Lastly, seeing the C5 in the daylight, I think every time I'd get into it, I'd have to have your reaction as to it's cleanliness. Keep the C5 content my friend. Save the Wave👋
You should see it now! It's currently getting paint correction and ceramic coating and maybe a little XPEL mixed in there! It looks like a brand new car. It's insane! I love the condition this thing is in! I think the previous owner probably had the battery die and just never replaced it. I'll take a look at the struts at some point because if they are bad I'm going to get Z06 struts most likely.
Not to mention you can read codes from the DIC. Not sure if you mentioned that in another video as this is the third video of yours I am watching. Kind of skipping around, DEFINITELY have had a few beers. 🍺 🤣

Looking for a rear window hatch vent . Checked multiple sources and the Corvette Gadget man was a key supplier but has retired. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
I used to think my 77,000 mile 04' C5 was clean. You just ruined that for me, but your info made up for it. Thanks!
lol I'm sorry. If it helps, this is the cleanest one I've ever seen! I don't think too many in this shape exist.
That thing is so clean! Love the engine bay.
It really is! It's crazy!
Thankyou for the info on the fob
You're very welcome!
My 99 C5 looked real similar to this.
I just changed the battery out and then held the two buttons as you did and it programs with out having to go through all the extra you did.
I don't think it would if you reprogram the remote in general. For instance, if you buy a new remote, you'd need to do all of these steps.
Beautiful C5
Thank you!
Congrats on the C5 Justin... I can't get over how clean that car is. I would love to see you get a C4 at some point, an early one like 85-89. That B Cool!!!
Thank you! I can't get over how clean it is either! Just wait, it's getting even cleaner as we speak!
There is no comparison between a C5 and a C4. Why would you want a C4? Other than the fact that the C4 is the cheapest corvette you can buy.
New sub,now here is a car the avg. Joe can relate to.I had an 2002 electron blue c5 I did quite a few mods to.looking forward to the journey.I keep mine clean too but 21 yrs....usually the drivers seat will show some wear.he or she must have slipped in very carefully.
Awesome! Welcome aboard!
Just got mine last month with only 62000 miles love my vette
They are awesome cars!
Good content. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
I JUST GOT MY RED C5 FOR CHRISTMAS!!❤ 32K MILES ,MINT!!❤
Thank for tire pressure settings
No problem 👍
If you ever planning to upgrade/accessories this C5 definitely you are going to enjoy it. 💚🏁
That's the plan!
Found most of the dealers don't know anything. Usually one guy that works on older vettes at the dealerships
Have you had to replace your headlight motor on the C5?
I did not, no.
@@HorsePowerObsessedI can't find any videos on replacing sticky fog light/hatch switch on a 2001 C5.
Where did you purchase replacements and what is your opinion on the quality? Thanks!
I absolutely LOVED the replacements! Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/WgZ-i6rGo14/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CksukMA_PYScohJO
Great info, look forward to more C5 content. I have a C5 Z06, so your C5 info. is going to be great. Waiting for an MGW short throw right now, boy take about 3 to 4 week plus shipping to get that bad boy. Can't wait to get the stock sloppy shifter out.
Awesome! I appreciate it. The MGW shifter made a huge difference in my C7 so I can only imagine how awesome it will be in the C5.
Dark Bowling Green Metallic available 2000/2001 882 DBGM built. Love mine,
Looking forward to see what you do with it!😎🏁
Awesome! It's been a great car so far.
Light Oak interior looks great with black. My parents just gave me their 2000 C5, magnetic red metallic with the light oak interior. I don't see very many in that color.
It’s actually dark bowling green metallic, even though it looks black in most light
@@HorsePowerObsessed Even better! One of my favorite colors next to the Magnetic Red Metallic.
Agreed!
I just found your channel Figure out how to eliminate the F55 option and switch to regular shocks on a 04 without the dreaded 80 mph lockout occurring. If you do you will be lots of peoples hero. I love my C5 but can't afford $2000 for a set of shocks.
Awesome content as always Justin! 🤙
Thanks, Mike!
Interesting. Purchased my 2004 C5 Z-06 brand NEW off show room floor almost 18 years ago at Kerbeck Chevrolet, Atlantic City, NJ
My # 1 Key fob never worked again after replacing the battery several years ago.
Have written down all the steps you shared to reprogram as you outlined in your video.
thank you.
Thought my #1 key fob was bad. Just never reprogrammed it.
Pretty basic once you understand the process.
Have lived with this 2004 Z-06 since NEW 3-06-2004 am
still learning new & fascinating things you can do with it.
Great video,
R Maloney Warwick, RI
Thank you! I’m happy to hear it helped!
It's quite the car there's no doubt about it!
They really are! The C5 is just so cool! Thanks for the support and welcome to the channel! 👍👍
This was an excellent 1st upload on the C5 Justin!👍
Thanks Justin. Are the instructions for the pairing in the Owner's Manual?
Not to mention you can read codes from the DIC. Not sure if you mentioned that in another video as this is the third video of yours I am watching. Kind of skipping around, DEFINITELY have had a few beers. 🍺 🤣
I love the shine! What brand wax do you use?
It’s XPEL fusion ceramic coating.
C5,s ROCK 🇺🇲💪
They absolutely do! 🤘😎🤘
The car looks incredible!Looking forward to future videos,Keep up the great work.
Thanks a ton!
Clean ride
Thank you. It's a giveaway car now! You can win it!
Sweet find! That's clean as heck! Question though... anything new coming to the Colorado???
Yup. I will have a video out Monday or Tuesday about the Colorado and then another later next week. I have a stack of parts in my garage for it!
@@HorsePowerObsessed Thats awesome man! The reason I ask is because I'm looking at getting one or a Canyon late this year and its nice to see someone making content! Love yours and Matt's trucks!
Thank you! I love the truck so much it's just been getting kind of pushed to the back burner because of the Corvettes but with winter time here it's going to be getting some love!
Dang, that's a nice C5!
Thank you! I love it!
Had my C5 for five years, the key fob has worked maybe two weeks total out of that time. What a pain in the ass.
Does the 1998. Need the fob with the passive switch.
A really well done tutorial!
Thank you!
Justin, with your on-going acquisitions you are going to need a toy barn/museum. 👍😁
Lol my wife and I have talked about it. Definitely need another garage.
I have 2 extra houses on the same block other than the one I live in and while the houses can be rented I use the garages for vette storage don’t laugh! 2004 crystal tint coat red metallic with 14k miles on it. 90 ZR1 with 70k and a 2014 z51 3lt with 12k miles both red. Yes I like red. All 3 perfect. I bought the houses because it’s cheaper than storage and they are beachside here so will get a good bit for vrbi. 😀 The neighborhood thinks I’m nuts. But the are all within 200ft from me and easy to take out.
Thanks again another great video
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Good info. Your car looks brand new!
Thank you!
