  • This video goes through the initial start and burn-off process for most pellet grill and smoker. You always want to Burn-off or Season a grill before cooking on it for the first time in order to burn off all the oils and contaminates.

    I just bought one of these on clearance for $300. It's still in the box in my Suburban. I'm looking forward to putting it together tomorrow and burning it in.

    Hello
    Could you let me know what the measurement where the upper grill grate sits inside the brackets need to know from inside edge to inside edge of the top brackets.
    Thank you

    Is the silver plate over the pot supposed to be leaning? I took mine out and forgot how it went back in. I put it in where it sits level. Is that wrong?

    First time smoker here... just got it and did my first burn... started it up and went 225 for some ribs but sits at 300°... smoking in arizona.. not sure if outside temps contribute to smoking temp.

      These are made of thin gauge metal so external temps greatly affect cooking temp. I'm in Texas and during heat of the summer without my grill running it registers 100+ degrees on the gauge.

    I closed the shield and it wouldn’t go up in temp

  • @chrisanyone953

    It specifically says on “high” which is closer to 550 degrees fareinheit for 30 min with the lid closed.

    • @JoeriksGarage
      @JoeriksGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Chris Anyone thanks for watching. Manual says 450 for 30-40 minutes. I gradually brought up the temp from 250 to 450 to allow the painted finish to bake. Sorry if I miss quoted in the video. Take care

      Timothy Harris I’ve only owned Pit Boss vertical and the Austin XL but did a lot of research before buying. The build quality and features for the price you can’t beat it. The main difference from this brand to the other is the controller where some have WiFi and PID controller. Overall I’ve been very happy with mine.

    • @JoeriksGarage
      @JoeriksGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typo no way with this controller to turn down the fan or off. Are you getting ash while searing with the shield open? Have you clean out your grill with a shop vac?

    So how was the temp side to side ? Pretty even?

    • @JoeriksGarage
      @JoeriksGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I made a video going over temp side to side if your interested: th-cam.com/video/yjadFxGROyY/w-d-xo.html Running it at temp 300 and below temp is even, little hotter closer to the pellet box. If you turn up the heat to grill you will find a hot spot in the center but not as much on either side. Hope that help and thanks for watching.

    you didn't show how you light it also the book speaks of a gelled lighter fluid but not by name....what is it?

    • @JoeriksGarage
      @JoeriksGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typo no lighter fluid is needed. The grill has an electronic igniter which lights the pellets within a minute of turning on the grill. Hope that helps you out. I do have other video that might be helpful so check out my channel. Thanks for watching

    • @gammabanky37
      @gammabanky37 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Using the gel or a starter like you mention is only if you wan't too do a "manual" start which I have never needed or wanted to do. There a many different types of gel fire starters.
      I guess its an option if your heat probe isn't working....

    • @JoeriksGarage

      Terry Hatcher the Copperhead which Is the Vertical smoker and Austin which is the one on this video both use fans to control temp. The Austin has a P setting but Copperhead does not. See my other videos comparing the 2 units, I discuss this in more detail. Thanks for watching.

    Guess you didnt read the manual lol

    • @TakeDeadAim
      @TakeDeadAim 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah...don't know why he's worried about the paint. Paint is either cured properly at the factory or not. The reason you need to jack up the temp right away is to burn OFF the oils and protective grease and not burn them ON...so do NOT follow this "new" procedure. Finish does NOT "bake"...follow the manual. Save the going rogue for the cooking.
