- In this video I show how to do the first start up process by priming the auger and doing the initial burn off on the new Pit Boss Austin XL Onyx Edition. I will also show you the proper way to start and shut off your Pit Boss smoker.

Giant Snail. Thanks for the heads up and the quick lesson on this. I just bought my first pellet smoker, the Lexington. I typically smoke manually, I enjoy the challenge but, my injuries are starting to take a toll, so I got a "set it and forget it" smoker lol

Giant snail!!!! First-time smoker!!!!
First off, Giant Snail, I am a big fan of pit boss. I have a vertical smoker, pellet grill and a PB propane griddle. I rarely use my propane grill anymore. I change out pellets at times and to prime I usually just put a handful of pellets in the pot. That saves time. The prime can be a "giant snail" lol 👍😁👍

Jost got the onyx and it's great but the temp fluctuations are insane compared to my old one. Also, what's the best way to cover that deflector plate and still use the sear option? Giant snail!
Good video - I have watched other videos though where they say don't use the off button to commence the shutdown cycle, instead just turn the knob all the way down.
Those people aren’t reading the manual then 😉. I use the manual to show the proper way to do things in all my videos.

Giant Snail, also just bought one of these bad boys, and I never seen one on display but WOW this thing is hugh, I mean the cooking area is very large, but I have yet to do the burn off, plan on doing that in a couple of days, my question, do you recommend "seasoning it", and if so with what?

So if my hopper never run out if pellets, I only have to do a prime only 1 time correct? And do you have to clean the burner after every use?
You’re correct! Priming just pushes those pellets down to the burn pot more quickly. I don’t vacuum the burn pot after every use. If I’m doing a long cook I do make sure it is clean though.

Nice videos. Does this new PB have a continuous fan or does it come on and off like the Laredo. I have the Laredo and don't feel I get any smoke flavor do to being so efficient at burning pellets. I like this new one and hope it has the continuous fan and more smoke like my Pro 1100. I guess I like the old standard for more flavor. Thanks. Giant snail!!!!

Quick question since I'm a little confused. In the manual it says that is recommended to empty the pellets after each use, does that mean I have to prime the grill everytime?

Giant snail😁. I also have a question. I plan on emptying my hopper after I finish cooking so the pellets won't Anson absorb moisture or degrade. What about the pellets left in the auger. Do I need to run those out also?
I don't know how often I will be using my grill and I don't want those pellets in the auger to go bad either.
