Hi dave, love how you an Josh hugged at the top ❤ being able to express love to family members without embarrassing them 🤣 is priceless. I have a Euruka TPOC 1 person tent, its heavy but a tank of a tent about 6lbs🤣 its US military, bought it new from USA. Excellent materials in this tent, the fly is totally blacked out, they stopped making them as far as i can tell, and opted to make a lighter version.

Having had the S15, the S22 and the Scarp 1. I only have the Scarp left. The S15 was a good tent but the entrance was too small and for multi day trips, once its wet it gets very much heavier. Once the materiel wets out it can no longer keep water out. So for trips when you don't expect multi day rain it's a great tent. Ventilation is through the fabric. The S22 was even worse and the design allowed water to get in, in any rain. One tip on the Scarp is on the centre guy line, add a tracking pole to raise the pull and definitely put a short length of shock cord on it as with strong wind it will rip at that point (check out other users). Other than that the Scarp is the one that I still have. On one trip it rained so much I was lying in 2 inches of surface water and not a drop came in. Great video and keep the Scarp for multi day but the S15 is good for single day trips.

Wanted to let you know that Nortent sent me the new poles this week without charge. I had purchased VERN 2 in May after watching you Andy review them. My email to Nortent went out when I saw your updated video saying they were shipping the stronger poles presently. They could not have been more accommodating. Swapped out the awesome, bomb proof but cramped terra nova southern cross 1 for nortent Vern 1 original. Only a little heavier than 1.5 but way more space than sc1.

Makes a lot of sense that mate, is the original Vern 1 freestanding? The new Vern 1 looks great but way too heavy to be worth it unless you're off to the arctic. I have the Southern Cross 1, truly amazing tent but you're right about room. If they just made the Southern Cross another 10% to 20% bigger it would be amazing. Id also have them replace that stupid red pole with a colour better for covert wild camping when you are on farmland or private woods, a nice autumnal bronze would still look cool and contrast with the green but would blend into nature way better.
@@freddiemercerful hi pal, it's not free standing with the crossing pole it's semi free standing but I don't always use it. I can use wide mat too which didn't fit sc1, 6 nights in it I'm happy so far, not had it in much wind tho👍🏻

For me: laser compact as. Durable and strong reg. snow and wind (48mph was my exreme). Well ventilated. Spacious enough for winter gear and 12h inside. High enough at the ends to not touch it with the down bag while dreaming heavily, which is rare in the

Very happy with my Scarp. The tent I used before I got the Scarp (and still can't bear to part with) is a Hexpeak V4A - a very capable shelter, just not quite as comfortable. If I'm expecting settled and mild conditions though, I take a Notch for the weight saving.

Owned a Sigma and it’s not a 4 season tent. It leaked in windy rain and my pole snapped in a gust of no more than 40MPH. I sold it after 3 single night camps and bought a Hilleberg Enan which is sold as a 3 season tent but is probably tougher than both tents in your video but fits into the 1.5 kg bracket.

The Terra Nova Lazer Compact AS is 1.7kg but is a very spacious 1 man 4 season tent that also has great ventilation if you need it, that's the one I went for and as a taller person it works very well for me.

Interesting tents. Great place for camping whit newbies, maybe some fishing too.
i think i would only take the single skin tents if they have "drainage" systems like the trekking pole tents with mesh gutters / airflow - like that of the xmid 1 pro, tarptent, z-packs plex/altaplex or the Lanshan pro 1. i think with tarptent's models, you can close the mesh up with some sort of nylon and drawstring.
My main issue is that if condensation comes down off the fly and ends up in the bathtub, it's an instant fail. this is partly why 2 skin tents are nice, since you wont get condensation invading the bathtub (the naturehike vik 1 is bad for this, but is a nice tent in general).
If the above is the case with the tent you are testing (or even the possibility of it happening) then i would chose the scarp 1 all day long.
I agree, yet I want to sell the lightwave on, but something stops me. I guess the desire to find it's limits.

@Fellmandave1 in warm weather, I tend to leave the door open. I've really not had it out in extreme winds, but it's been happy in 20 plus as long as it's guyed out
Interesting colour combo.
Have you ever looked into the best colour for blending into this sort of environment? I know most will say browns and greens but colours like light grey for instance can work well and even the greyish blue that GoOutdoors have brought out in their 'UL' range. Sorry to go off topic on this vid but your green and black combo tent made me think.
I enjoyed this comparison but am still looking for one myself as I still can't decide *too much choice.

Get you, I just accidentally bought another on ebay last night. As for blend, I really like the slat grey of the earlier Nortents and hilleberg sand. I kniow what you mean about the OEX ones, its a grey blue, but would prefer more grey than blue. I just dont like red! Horrible inside, horrible outside! Thanks for commenting.

Dave If you are interested in doing a part ex with a Rab Mythic Ultra (TILT) version in size L and its that grey colour with the orange inner and some cash i will be happy to do a deal on the S15. I have only worn the Rab once for a few hours so its like new

@@Fellmandave1 No problem Dave, i am sure you will appreciate it more if you never had to concider Honey. Its definitely worth putting a mid panel guy out point on the Sil nylon panel which i have done to both my lightwaves because that stretches when its wet and the wind can blow it in significantly reducing your vestibule space. Re your formula personally for the weight it's the most useable internal space that i have come across on a 4 season tent in that category . I have the Unna too so i am going to see how the S20 copes next winter compared to that but not having used the XTex material in sub zero conditions it remains to be seen how this material can cope when its frozen over on both sides 🤔

The Lightwave is interesting but you would have to work hard to beat the Scarp 1 Ultra - the new material is brilliant in the rain

@@Fellmandave1 I does look a little bright in some conditions 🤣. But the material doesn’t absorb water - so on multi day trips it is much easier to live with (you can dry it off,can leave inner attached and don’t soak the inside of your rucksack!) It also seems to be better in the wind - although I don’t do crazy conditions so not sure it would manage those
@@Fellmandave1 I forgot to answer - it doesn’t absorb water - so no wet tent in my rucksack🙌. It does make a lot of noise in the rain though 😬The white material is less bright in most conditions than you would think

It's an excellent shelter.
UK "4 season" Scarp Ultra, although it's generally too much tent, so really only a 1.5 season. If I was only going to have 1 tent it would probably be 3 season, my Notch Li solid sees the most use, although I do have a Dipole DW on the way, that might be a better "if I only had 1 tent" option, time will tell.
You got the trick question, can a tent be 4 season, or just best for 2 soecific seasons? There is a new tarptent coming too eh? The arcdome.
@@Fellmandave1 a true 4 season with snow skirts and so on would be of almost no use in the UK, it is a bit of a pointless designation though, in Lanshan terms it just means an 80% solid inner. It's one of those marketing terms that mean nothing like 1 man tent, or 40L rucksack. The arcdome looks interesting, Durston has somthing similar in the pipeline, but I'm a convert to trekking pole tents, I've not camped on sand or rock, so not needed a freestanding tent.
Tramplite (under 800g inc 9" Easton stakes)is the best 1 person shelter IMHO handmade in the UK .. sadly Colin Ibbotson isn't making any more for the time being!

@@Fellmandave1 Colin was just a one man band, as his website suggests he only made gear when he wasn't trekking!
His gear was made to the same standards he worked to as an aeronautical engineer...ie exceptional.

Dave...any chance of a review of the new "Gas burner Storm" (gb77) from Trangia? Now 100% made in sweden, parts are supposed to be avaliable to make it more sustainable, and the regulator is redesigned which looks like it will work with an inverted cannister (a big weakness of the last model). Question is...will it burn in liquid feed??? (If so it might be worth its money 😊).

With the Scarp tent don't those loops flap about in the wind and make noise?
Just use a loop of elastic Andy and clip them to that, problem solved.
