I absolutely agree about the rapping! They add so much to the songs and for some “fans” to write them off like that is just downright disrespectful! The whole point of Gorillaz is about collaboration and experimenting with different styles of music. Sad times fr.

and honestly looking back i feel like a good way to keep murdoc's arc in phase 6 coherent is if he was shown frowning before pulling out the syringe in aries. idk just an idea but a simple expression change would have done so much

Especially with a virtual band, where the visuals take such a center-stage and contribute so much, not just thematiclaly, but also narratively to the whole experience, small details like that can make all the difference as to how the lore and characters are received. It is unfortunately, something I largely feel that Gorillaz has slipped up on in recent years (especially after losing Cass Browne as their writer), with the characterization of the band members becoming more and more inconsistent with the past lore and arcs. Phase 7 though, has turned out to be really promising in terms of lore, so here's hoping we see that improve with time.
Great video I do have some different opinions. I really wish you did the storyboards because you mentioned Rhinestone Eyes at the beginning but not 5/4. I don’t know if this is the canon lore but this point of view makes Aries much better. In the episode before it Murdoc was sad because he was unable to go through the portals with the rest of the band, and thought 2-D was doing that purposefully to get revenge on Murdoc for all he’s done. That’s why Murdoc attempts to construct his own portal seen in pac man, and why he tries to get 2-D with the truth serum in Aries. By the end in the lost chord Murdoc accepts 2-D as more of a friend, and 2-D in someway shows a sign of forgiveness. Once again don’t know if this is canon but it’s what I believe because it makes the lore of the phase better. 8:11

I will always have a soft spot for the music video of Saturnz Barz. It has nothing to do with the lore and gets some things wrong about the characters, but damn if it doesn't feel like a classic Gorillaz scenario. Also, the song is a bop so that's a plus
I feel so bad for saying this, but I felt like Pac-Man having a rap in it felt out of place and it just felt wrong generally when I first listened to It I think I thought it was gonna be one of those like 19 2000 things and it wasn’t and it kind of disappointed me
Also, the rap is still good I’m just saying it felt out of place people cutting the wrap out for like dirty harry and Feel Good Inc just feels absolutely horrible

I really REALLY despise Saturn’s Barz as both the music video and the song are so close to being great. The music video conceptually is great, however the 3d animation of the monsters is awful and makes it a complete eyesore. The song itself is great besides from the feature. The awful “rapping” done through most of the song is what makes it my least favourite gorillaz song
