I'll give Shane some credit; he is a master at hyping up the most mundane shit. I remember getting completely sucked into his conspiracies and "interventions", since he was so damn good at editing them to add tension. Like the Jake Paul intervention. So much buildup over hours and hours of videos, bringing in psychologists to talk about psychopaths, making it seem like he's risking his life by confronting Jake. Then it was nothing more than a tour of Jake's mansion and one shallow conversation about his past. He edited those videos like he was about to get murdered in the Team Ten basement. Same with the Chucky Cheese conspiracy. Edited like they just uncovered a mass grave underneath the local church lol. They were basically shaking looking at pictures of pizza. And I remember feeling scared too! So stupid...

I think I am one of the rare demographic that this movie is for. Although I loathe Donald Trump, I am still fascinated and a psychological sense how a man ends up to this point in this movie was fascinating to me. I saw it last week and there was only four other people in the theater. I agree with this reviewer, and that while I found it interesting I probably will never watch it again.

I don't know this person, have never seen his videos, and don't know how or why I ended up watching this.

He made a video on anesthesia awareness that really messed up a friend of mine growing up. He was chronically ill and spiraling about the idea of ever having to have surgery which is a very real likelihood. Something like that can cause real damage, I know because I actually have woken up under anesthesia. My mom told me to lie about recently recovering from a cold and I sat up and started coughing during an open abdominal hernia repair. The doctor talked with me about it after (as is proper procedure) and I don’t really remember it but I developed PTSD and it made me so terrified to go under anesthesia that I almost refused an emergency nerve repair earlier last year. It ended up going fine because I informed them accurately about my risk factors. However, I would never feel okay about using my story to fear monger because the reality is that I had multiple unknown predisposing factors (including a genetic connective tissue disorder) that made me more likely to be resistant that don’t impact the vast majority of people and the potential danger of people refusing surgeries out of fear of an incredibly small risk could actually unalive someone. There is a time, a place, and a nuance to that conversation that Shane is not capable of having. That video wasn’t education, it’s fearmongering and remembering how strong my friend’s reaction was to it makes me terrified that other kids went through unnecessary fear, especially kids who needed that kind of life saving treatment because extra panic can lead to more medical trauma overall.

This film feels like it came out a decade too early, people who hate Trump will not watch it because they hate him and people who love Trump will not watch it because they see it as trashing their idol. It's like if Vice came out in 2004. Still I believe this will age well in those 10 years after this current Trump craze has died off.

i LOVE rocketman so so much. i’ve seen it probably more than 20 times and can recite it front to back from memory but i’m so bad at analysis of visual media like film and tv and especially expressing my feelings about it, watching this and hearing you put to words exactly what i love about rocketman so perfectly, i was actually screaming at points. the only thing that i can’t help but notice when watching rocketman (and this is absolutely coming from my upbringing as a child of an addict) was the costuming in the rehab circle scenes. i’ve always seen the use of black grey and white as representative of each of the characters journeys in recovery, black being early on and white being clean. i have no idea if it was intentional (it isn’t even something i’ve seen other people suggest, probably because the costuming in the rest of the film is so over the top and visually astonishing that the neutral tones kind of fall to the side) but to be it’s absolutely integral to understanding?? tracking?? elton’s rehab journey. going from the character of Elton Hercules John in his ginormous glittery costume, to elton in the black tracksuit, the grey jumper, and the white suit at the end cisually lets us know where elton is mentally and spiritually. it’s also in his black bow tie at the end-addiction is a lifelong illness. no matter how long you’ve been clean, it’s still a struggle and you still carry it with you everywhere. augh i need to watch your [redacted biopic] video tomorrow i need to sleep now. Crazy how we have the same villain origin story.. I, too, was a Shane conspiracy watcher as a youngin.. I was never the same since.

I think the reason that they included "that scene" was that, despite my finding the movie tdefinitely depicting Trump as a villain- which he is- many of his supporters would watch this exact same movie and see him as its hero- just as folks do with Tony Montana or Tyler Durden- except, of course, for "that scene." The scary thing is some of his supporters, who see Trump as the hero of this movie, will actually like "that scene" because they think that is acceptable to do to your own wife.

Eww when Shane was talking about young girls coming on to him, it reminded me of the fact that a lot of predators will avoid accountability by saying the child came onto them and that they were just a victim of the child, they were manipulated. Etc etc. Grosss

I haven't touched any of Shane's content. So I know nothing about him aside from his downfall. Had no idea it was this bad

I don’t see how kids being obsessed with skincare is considered as a conspiracy theory when it’s not that hard to connect the dots to why, considering that brands are now marketing their products towards children in order to convince them they need these products so they can make money off them. You know, which is exactly what Shane and Jeffree did with their Conspiracy collection back in 2019…

I disagree that his main audience is children. I think Shane’s audience used to be children but now (after his “cancelation”) the only people that remain are millennials who grew up watching him. You can see this if you look in his comments or community posts.

personally i love the fact that theres so many features. many small artist will do this where they heave lots of big features to help bump up their streams, but gorillaz was already an established band. it just shows that they wanted these people to help push the vision forward. i mean, how amazing it is that vince staples, kali uchis, and grace jones are on an album tgt. it shows how versatile gorillaz sound was, this album was ahead of its time tbh. most of the songs could be released today and not feel out of place

You’re not kidding because I’ve watched quite a few videos about Shane Dawson by now that I thought I was familiar with all of the fucked yo shit he has said and done but that comment about Chesca was extremely disturbing and I’ve never heard about that before.😳😳

Honestly I don't want to watch this movie. I think I'd be way too uncomfortable watching an actor I've been seeing as a constant since my teenage years in my comfort movies play this awful excuse for a human being. Yeah I think it says something about me that I'm more comfortable watching a man smash his face in with a weight than this.

Everytime I think back to how these Shane conspiracy videos kept me up at night sometimes, I shutter at just how dumb I was to think these terrible theories (or blatant facts you can easily find with one five second Google search in some cases) were even remotely true. And then we get to just how condescending Shane sounds and acts in a lot of these videos. Always glad to see videos of debunking his terrible conspiracy videos.

I say this on any video that mentions Shane growing up poor: Shane has confirmed in old videos that he didn't grow up poor, he was upper-middle class. So, yeah, not exactly rich, but not poor either. He had it a lot better than he leads on. His mother may have had to work to provide for him, but he wasn't having to eat off-brand food. Notice how the unhealthy foods he indulges in as an adult are actually quite expensive in the long term? A poor person can afford the occasional fast-food treat, but Shane goes to Taco Bell and buys several items for himself and his whole posse multiple times a day. He buys so many crumbl cookies and cakes in new videos, which already is a step down from his "food video" era when he was spending hundreds of dollars a video on like Oreo flavors. That kind of spending is something only a wealthy person can do.
