It's absurd to say the United Nations, or any of the other former allies in the Korean war, have any skin in the game these days. The US has tens of thousands of troops in South Korea. We are also the only ally who is still close with the South Korean military. If war breaks out, tens of thousands of Americans will once again die there. Prior contributions in the Korean war are obviously great but let's not be confused about who has the most at stake, by far. I will be surprised if anything comes out of this. I don't think either side will be getting what they want. All I'm saying is that I'm open to the possibility and don't actively root against my country and 'world peace' in general. And though I do not like Trump and did not vote for him I do think this is an option worth trying. I think there's the possibility that Kim used the nuclear program as a means of securing power and legitimization within his own country, and that perhaps he realizes that he's got another 50 years or so ahead of him and that the status quo just will not last that long. This country's leadership has no problem being sanctioned and their citizenry have shown little hope of overthrowing their government due to bad conditions.
