- It's Spring Cleaning time and there's no better place to start than my sewing kit. I'm not an expert seamstress, but I do have a pretty good idea what I use for every project and what I need to stop carrying around like that garbage lady from "The Labyrinth".
What's in your kit and what are you surprised you've never thrown away?

I love the sense of accomplishment that comes with sorting out one small bag, 1 down, 8.65 million to go… xx
Oh girl, I wish it was just 85 million bags. Add the mystery boxes, dark corners, forgotten shelves...I'll never get through them all 😭
I made a housewife (free pattern from Ora Lin) and keep some pins, needles, stork scissors, seam ripper, a few bobbins of neutral threads (black, white, navy, maybe a color if I'm working on a specific project), a neat seam gauge shaped closer to a square and less like a ruler, a thimble, a sew tite magnet, and some beeswax. I have yet to use the beeswax. I should probably put some basic buttons in there. Sometimes I carry this on its own and sometimes I tuck it into a pencil box with English Paper Piecing hexis, in which case I also have a larger spool of thin grey thread and a glue stick.
I've never thought I needed a seam gauge, but that may be a great thing to add and get used to using. Sounds like you have a great kit!
I love your little bag!! And honestly, if you dont like the seam ripper, dont keep it! Its your bag and your tools.
You are so right!! I know it's one of those things that as soon as I leave it behind I'm going to need it. Happens every dang time!
@@KatieMakesStuff thats fair. Murphy's Law does that every time
Brand new to the sewing adventure so i don't know my holy grails yet but I'm gonna stick around in the comments and take notes from them as well as the video. Thanks for this video!
I've been taking notes as well! Gotta add bandaids and a marker of some kind to my kit.
Still keep then plaster/band aid and recently found a little bag of sweeties in there ! And a broken corner of tailors chalk !
I absolutely should have bandaids in there!! It's a great idea and I always forget until I need them. Going to grab some right now before I forget.
I keep my straight pins and needles in old Altoid tins.
I have an old tin I put broken sharp things into: old machine needles, exacto blades, etc.
Gasp! WHERE are the magnifying reading glasses and needle threader(s)!?
I'd probably replace that big bag of buttons with some safely pins.
I'm not quite at the readers stage of sewing but I think it's quickly approaching! 🤓 But I definitely need to add more safety pins. Great suggestion!
I have never whooshed with a seam ripper. Never wanted to risk it!
I keep tailors chalk in my bag but I have never used it but I feel like if I take it out I will need it I think tailors chalk is my verson of your seam riper
Mini screwdriver. Its for my machine, does not need to be in my hand sewing kit.
You need a marker in your kit.
Ooh you're right! Adding that today!
