- Y'all know I love a good fabric haul...so when my favorite sewing supply store went out of business, I battled my seasonal blahs with some retail therapy (twice). In two shopping trips, I spent $440 and brought home SO MUCH STUFF! The good news is that I'm making a lot of it available to you on my Ko-Fi Shop. Omg, what a haul! I think my jaw actually dropped at the blanket, that's awesome!
We sell entire estates and there is OFTEN fabric, machines, and everything in between and it sells for a tiny fraction of new. Check out estate sales in your area, you would not believe what you'll find. I have some of the coolest vintage fabric and a massive collection of quilt rulers in every size and shape!
That's my summer goal this year! Thrifting is good but I bet estate sales will have amazing things just waiting for me!

It definitely gave me the inspiration to make a video and try some new sewing ideas. I think my brain needed that shot of dopamine to get back in gear!
I don’t think I would have left that fabric store for months, so happy you have found enough fabric to make things for a while, glad the blahs have gone, the blahs are the worst type of uninvited guest xx
The only reason I left was because I had to eat and sleep at some.point. I'm feeling like I should've camped out for a few days 🤣🤣

Oooooo exciting!! My favorite is the twill tape. That, and those tassels would make some sweet garland! You can dye it any color you like!
The twill tape was such a cool surprise and it has so many uses! And I hadn't thought of dying twill tape but it would take color beautifully. Garland is such a cute idea!!

There is of course another positive way to look at this. Without your wonderful craft room where would have all this lovely fabric been stored 😂

Oh always! I've already grown out of it!
the fabric with the stitching in the middle was stitched together at the factory to continue the weaving of the fabric. it is normal to see on knits that are weaven in a tube. the different colour tones indicate 2 different dye baths that did not match at the factory.
Makes total sense about the dye baths! The pigments seem to leave residue everywhere so I'm wondering if I soak the two pieces in warm water if they'll even out at all. Thoughts?
@@KatieMakesStuff (On a test piece) I would try over-dying with the same colour dye. Between the darker side bleeding into the lighter side and the over-dye colour, there is a good chance of the lighter side darkening, with out too much fading on the darker side. Keep in mind that if it is not natural fibre it might not work very well...the downside of mystery fibres. Have Fun!

Super fun video! The fabric you did the burn test on but couldn’t work out what it was, could it be silk? What did it smell like? Silk: Burns, but does not melt. It shrinks from the flame. It has the odor of charred meat. The residue is a black, hollow irregular bead that can be easily to a gritty black powder.
It didn't shrink away or smell meaty. I'm still thinking wool and the dyes may be messing with the odor. I'm so glad you went over silk burn tests though, I always struggle with those!

I’m wondering if that unburn-able fabric was treated to be inflammable? I’ve done that for the theater with curtains when we were dealing with a strict fire marshal.
I was thinking that too! They had flame resistant curtain velvet but I wonder if this is in the same family.

It really is. I don't think it's ripstop but I'm going to test it out and see what I can find out! Good suggestion
I think your fabric that you didn't know what it was you did the burn test to it I think it might have fire retardant on it it might be for pajamas you know how they put the fire retardant on children's pajamas it might be like that I don't know but I enjoy your videos keep it up
The elephant stuff and henley might make cool cosplay armor. 18:45 maybe flame retardant cloth for something (uniforms, chef pants, curtains)? Cool haul.

They once said any extras were going to auction but I haven't seen anything about that. I'm still in mourning but I feel like I got what I could to remember them by!

I get that this is a thing you do now, but personally I'm not too fond of the blantant consumerist "ooh, look I bought something" type of content. Even when it's on sale or second hand, it's still bragging about buying new stuff. Personally I also have a bit of a pet peeve about people valuing something highly just because it was cheap, instead of focussing on the qualities of the actual item.
Just, you know, I hope to see more making type videos rather than hauls in the future.
