Some of the stuff on this channel i think is kind of inane, like reviewing already broken news or completely speculating on pro players, but videos like this offer completely unique, invaluable advice. This is the kind of stuff that disc golfers need on youtube. Thanks for all the content.
I disagree. Not all of us get the disc golf "newspaper" or have the social media to be in the know about current events and top stories. I find this channel informative, entertaining and educational. With that said, the practice rounds are a bit boring (unless its an ace attempt video)
Knowing what to look for in a disc doesn't necessarily save you money. My personal trick to save money is simple: buy all of the discs then convince yourself it's a human need like food and shelter, and never have a child or buy a new car. Let frisbees be the most important thing in your life and you'll be rich. Maybe not wealthy, but rich.
Parting line Is the most important difference in my opinion. Dome or flat doesn't matter much in comparison, or a disc with a higher parting line with a dome has a tendency to be more overstable than a flat disc in the same mold
Great video sir! When you said wing at first my immature mind thought you said “Wang” lol. Keep up the great videos and I really enjoy these length of videos also, some guys over breakdown the discs but this is nice and simple.
For me, it is about weight and rim size. That is why I throw 11 speed Fission Wave, Orbital, and Defy between 158G and 164G. I love the Scorch but it is too heavy for me to achieve the distance I want and need.
Yeah dome vs flat has very little to do with stability. It is more about the parting line, like you said. However im not convinced concave = more stable. The bounty is understable and very concave. Maybe concaveness add to low speed stability but not high speed stability🤔
Great video! I would add that dome/glide does not necessarily = distance. Domey discs have more resistance to wind (Travel slower) but stay in the air longer. Flat discs travel faster or have less resistance but maybe doesn't stay in the air as long.
Do you have weights on those? I would love for you to take the same mold and throw 3 different weights, like 160, 168, and say 175. Throw each as much as you can the same and discuss the behavior. Just an idea I would love to see you work with sometime.
My local pro shop purged the lost and found this week so I scooped up a halo tern. Cheat code disc. The halo overstability complements the tern understability so well. Didn’t think a disc could go that far until throwing it
I've been playing for 3 years and no one ever told me about the parting line or the "wing". When you say, "high parting line" is that closer to the dome? I have a Felon that throw more over stable than my others but the parting line looks like it's further from the dome.
From my experience overstable discs are more stable when flat, and understable discs are more stable when domey. But yeah, the parting line is what you should be looking at.
What would you look for in a max distance forehand disc? I like flatness but don’t want super beef. I like to throw flat to slight Anhyzer shots. Is there a way to find something slightly overstable? I use a flat Big Z nuke and a slightly domey Z nuke. How could I find a nuke with some glide but not too domey and slightly overstable?
so Dome doesnt = US and Flat doesnt = OS. The better way to think about it is that Dome will give you more glide but requires more force to get the disc up to speed since there is more space under the disc. A way to think of it is that flat will exaggerate the discs stability and Dome will lessen them (when thrown at the same speed). So if you took an US disc like a Leopard and had 1 flat and 1 domey, then the flat one would be easier to flip up and get a more US flight out of then the domey one. Where as a flat Firebird will fly more OS than a domey Firebird. This is often why youll see people talk about how they love their FAF firebirds (or insert your favorite OS utility disc) or also talk about a great Pop Top driver. i remember seeing someone getting really frustrated that they bought a super domey US driver and it flew nothing like they were told. This is because they couldnt get the disc up to speed to get that true US flight with the additional dome and it flew like it was more stable than the numbers would suggest. I hope that helps.
@@Chris-qq2cu so what if you find the inbetween? Like if we used otbs scaling of flatness 4 for neutral? Is that the sweet spot for if you want some of the benefits of the domey disc but don’t want a domey disc as a forehand player?
Latitude Rive might be the one for you. Im using it as my main forehand disc throwing ~380ft. Dont trust those flight numbers, it isnt so overstable but stable enough to come out of anhyzer.
@@aghalja I love throwing the flat to finish shot the nukes go on a line drive I like them I just didn’t know if there is a certain dome I should look for. Also the raptor eye rives look sick
Roadrunner, has anyone actually found one that was in fact super understable?! :) They don't want to turn, wants to go absolutely straight with a bit fade at the end.
dome is not per say a teller for stable discs, dome ussually makes a disc more stable, (example can be calvin destroyers vs regular halos, calvins being teh stabeler obtion) it also makes it more glidy of course, but it doesnt make a disc flippy. there are though many flippy discs that have a large dome, this i just a sideproduct of the wingshape, or high partingline. therefore the dome is a teller between overstable discs, and meathooks, where if it is in fact domy, the disac will tend to go even farther left than if flat.
Im throwing all AGL for the week, i dont charge them for this. I would have made this video with any discs I just happen to have agl with me as I had the video idea mid-round

I personally think you did a great job on the explanation of the discs, the glide and the seam lines;)
Thank you sir

Good info! I’ve also found for myself that flat discs like to fly lower are a bit more forgiving so they’re great in the woods.

Ill have to try one!
I've got a really domey metal flake katana that's definitely my furthest flying disc

these are great tips!
You can get flat us discs and domey os discs. Like halo wraiths/destroyers tend to be beef
A Discmania G-Line FD is about board flat and glides to the moon.
Imagine if it was domey, you could reach Saturn
