Great channel! I’m trying to marry up advice here on toilet training with crate training… is it best in the early days to have pup in the crate, with door open into a pen area, then set the alarm still overnight… does it risk him just going in the pen area if he wakes before my alarm?

  • @WEEGIMEDIA

What about taking outside from the start if he’s not had his first jag but about to get it ? Do you just use puppy pads indoors until he is cleared to go outside then start with a designated spot in the garden ? Any clarification much appreciated. Have subscribed and appreciate the concise style of your tutorials 👍 thanks .

Got my lab pup on the 26th august, today 3rd September she asks to go out every time and makes no mess overnight either, I go to bed at 1am my missus gets up at 7am, If you dedicate the time to them from the start toilet training can always be this quick.
No crate ever used with any of my pups either and definitely no getting out of bed on the hour every hour, that would not work for me and I doubt a large amount of owners either.
Treat a puppy like you would a baby, routine, routine, routine and everything is a breeze.

Hi, I’ve just found your channel and it’s brilliant, exactly what I’ve been looking for. I’m in the process of adopting a 2 year old from a shelter who needs house training. Would you recommend your course for slightly older dogs as well or is it puppy specific?

Hey Anna, thanks for watching! We'd recommend sticking to the same advice of taking them out regularly to help minimise accidents in the house. If you wanting general training course as well we'd recommend our Boot Camp course, head over to our website for more details: www.fenrircanineleaders.co.uk/collections/training

Here's the thing I try taking her out all the time. A lot of times it's more than every hour. But she's afraid of everything outside. It's like she can't get comfortable enough to go. We can stay outside for an hour to walk and play she won't go as soon as we walk back inside she will go. Any advice would really help.

We have a 13 week cavapoo, how long after she eats do we take her out? It seems like we take her right after she eats or drinks but she doesn't go outside. Then we bring her in and a little while later she wees on the floor :/
Also at 13 weeks is it still every hour? Or do we take her for potty visits further apart?

Every hour on the hour?! Yes, it works. My last puppy wasn’t really a puppy, however, he was in an outside kennel. He was a German Shepherd. I took him out every 2 hours and he never had an accident. I’m getting a young puppy soon and…. Every hour on the hour?! No rest for Mama, lol!

My wife and I rescued a Chi-weenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix) a couple of weeks ago. He's a very good pup, a little over a year old, and thankfully doesn't have any accidents in the house. However, he has the tendency to hold his bladder until we go for a walk in the park, which is around the block from our house. I'll take him to the backyard first thing in the morning fully knowing that he needs to go and he'll just sniff around and eventually lay down, but as soon as we get to the park he goes #1 and #2 immediately. I'm thinking he was just used to holding his urine/poop for long periods of time at the shelter he was previously at. Any suggestions?

Hi, please could you help with my question. We are consistent with what you suggest to do and have bought your perfect puppy course. Our 10 week boxer puppy goes down at 22:00 just after his last toilet break and is dry until I wake him at 06:00 for toilet, out only problem we are having is after going for a toilet outside, within 10 mins of bringing him in he’s done a wee on the floor. We have a pad our for this just in case but he has never used it for that and we just use them to soak up majority of the wee.
What would you suggest we try?
    Many thanks
    Luke.

Im aware of bloat and very aware of the no exersize an hour before or after. How do i fit this into on the hour every hour with a pup that charges around everytime he is in the garden so as to avoid a bloat episode please?

I need some more help. Just getting my 9month old corgi. She's great besides not being fully house trained . I take her out multiple times a day, but she doesn't really poop outside I'd say we're 65-70% house trained. I'll walk her around for 10-15mins, then when we get inside she poops sometimes pees. She is 100% crate trained and never has accidents in the crate.
Problem is my sister would let her poop and pee in the house. Now she feels more comfortable at times to do the business there :/

how long should we spend outside with our puppy .he is 9 weeks , we take him out whenever he wakes to give him an opportunity to empty his bladder but he frequently just sits down and looks at us, sometimes we can still be there an hour later . if we bring him in and crate him with a view to taking him back out in 5 mins time he wee's in his crate.

I'd like to know this too. Mine will do his business outside, but sometimes just wants to play. Still not 100% sure when he needs it and he doesn't circle just sniffs then goes so makes it a bit difficult to judge so I just take him out as stated every hour on the hour.

Puppies can hold their bladder longer through the night as they sleep. Best take them out once or twice during the night, that should be enough. Crate training will help because they wont want to soil their den, and also be careful not to reinforce bad behaviour by giving them attention when they're whining. Try to wait until a moment of quiet, then take them out :)

I had him in the garden with me for well over an hour and nothing. Came in to make a coffee and he peed and poo in the kitchen then ran back outside. I'm honestly at my wits end... My 13wk old, Thor, is doing AMAZING in every aspect of his training, expect for toilet training. It's becoming such an issue now that I feel myself losing my temper and that's not fair on him. He REFUSES to shit outside. I will take him out repeatedly, and the first thing he does when back inside is shit. Same with taking a piss. I've tried on lead, off lead so he feels more free, I've taken his shit outside onto the grass and put it there for him to smell... nothing. I don't know what to do.
