- The Mazda FD Rx7 is one of the most iconic cars to ever come out of Japan. The Fd Rx7s timeless styling, lightweight chassis, and high revving rotary engine make it incredibly unique. While that sounds great on paper, the rotary is very unreliable and fickle. Luckily, a Chevrolet LS engine fits into the FD Rx7 quite nicely. And not just any LS engine for this FD Rx7. But one with some boost added on thanks for a Vortech supercharger!
My FD Rx7 is one of the original build cars here on the Scrap Life Garage channel. Things were going smoothly until I decided to remove the engine in order to smooth and paint the engine bay. Once that can of worms was opened, this FD Rx7 turned into a ground up restoration. Tons of new components, large amounts of painting and hours upon hours of labor to get my FD Rx7 close to a point where I can drive it again. Been waiting for this I had this exact car back in 08,went triple rotor single turbo spent a fortune.

Honestly I am really looking forward to seeing and hearing the end results I have always had a soft spot for the FD now a four rotor would have been cool but a safer option with the more common LS and with unlimited parts makes life a little easier and also it's a lightweight car with a modest 500-1000hp I'm sure.

Makes me miss my old big turbo LS FD. Love the build! The video/editing is awesome! This is the fun part of all builds! Paint is done and bolt all the cool bits back on for good! That’s crazy because my FD was a dark metallic green like the engine bay! Going widebody? My car would blow the tires off at 65mph with 315 rears!

Still auto for now. Got put on daily driver duty for a bit so I can wrap up other projects before swapping it. I missed my original window I was hoping to get it done in.

question, you sandblasted the suspension parts, without painting them after, i've done this many times, and found out within days: rust will go all over the sand blasted parts :( did you forget? :O

Curious what you did about the front unreplaceable ball joints on the lower arms... cant seem to find a shop that makes any replacment for it except for driting. I want to time attack and autox mine.

There arnt any projector kit’s available right now that I know of? The Sakebomb kit is no longer around. Plus, it is easy to change down the road once I find some.

Fits under a stock hood, almost no weight difference, reliable, consistent launches, etc. No-brainer.
