@16:40-16:52, that my friends is the kind of excellent customer care that is, sadly, in my experience not the hallmark of car manufacturers main dealers. Kudos to you sir 👊
The 0W-20 Toyota SP oil is a more wear control oil then the MobileOne AFE 0W-20. I have done a VOA on both of these oils. The Toyota oil is a special blend manufactured by ExxonMobile. The Toyota oil has a great anti-wear additive package: Moly - 697, Boron - 203, Zinc - 739, Calcium - 1287, Magnesium - 426, Phosphorous - 684 with a TBN of 6.8. That being said one of the key features of the ILSAC GF-6 oils is the protection they offer in helping prevent LSPI in engines with the TGDI technology. Combining turbochargers with GDI presents a unique set of problems, including an abnormal combustion phenomenon known as low speed pre-ignition (LSPI). LSPI is an uncontrolled combustion event that takes place prior to spark ignition, often resulting in knock, and has been known to cause catastrophic engine damage. The MobileOne ILSAC GF-6 AFE 0W-20 additive package is very different: Moly - 60, Boron - 73, Zinc - 548, Calcium - 844, Magnesium - 629, Phosphorous - 543 with a TBN of 8.0. Where the Toyota oil is blended for wear control and to support Toyota's 10K OCI - the MobileOne oil is blended to help control LSPI.
Many dealer parts counter people and lube techs aren't fledged mechanics and by now, no doubt some Toyota 0W20 has found its way into these cars so it's probably okay. Probably. How does oil help with pre-ignition -- cools the piston bottoms by wicking heat and hot spots away? Or fewer minerals keeps the PCV system clean?
@@dadgarage7966 It's the chemistry of the additive package. Calcium and magnesium sulfonate are the most commonly used detergent additives in motor oils. Although calcium had been favored for decades, industry research has shown fewer incidents of LSPI occurred by re-balancing detergent chemistry to reduce the level of calcium and increase the level of magnesium sulfonate in the additive package. Calcium has been shown to promote LSPI, while magnesium has little impact good or bad. As for the anti-wear additives moly, zinc and boron they add to the price of the oil. The Toyota oil has higher levels of these additives because they help support the 10k OCI and Toyota isn't selling on price - you need to buy it from a dealership. On the other hand MobileOne is completing on price with all the other oils on the shelves of retailers.
@@justfelix30 In these current blends for the products AMD is referencing. It doesn't mean Toyota wouldn't be re-blend their oil and AMD is referencing a very specific MobileOne oil. From a quick look at the label in the video - it seems to be the "green label" Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-20 version. Which MobileOne states " Meets ILSAC GF-6 standards to help provide low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) and timing chain wear protection while keeping your engine clean".
Thank you, Ethan! Awesome car! Though I am still not fully on board yet with small displacement turbo engines, applications like this exact one is nudging me closer to taking the plunge myself.

It's a Toyota. And it is using the homologation engine from the GR Yaris (superior chassis). 500hp and no issues with just some valve springs, past this the head will start to lift without better head studs. Long term will depend on use case and maintenance, but so far no premature failures that weren't user error.

Exactly, theres a big diference between what the "Stealership" tells you and the manufacturer. Dealerships dont give a shit, they are there to make money, the manufacturer take pride in their vehicles. Theres a massive diference between Toyota Japan and toyota america/ every where else sadly.
Ethan is a lucky guy! I can't wait to get my GR Corolla, hopefully sooner than later! I actually got to see my first GR Corolla toadying person and it was very special. Awesome ride, It’s essentially a race car for road users. Was Yamaha involved in the engine development? I know they’ve done a lot of work on previous Corolla’s.
The STI feels more powerful because of the torque and the power coming on in the lower RPM. I had a 2009 Legacy 2.5GT before this. I think I liked that more but this is a brand new car which comes with some perks. Some of the technology is extremely bothersome but that’s how all new cars are now. Lots of warnings and beeping and settings on a crappy tablet.

Thank you for showing the GR! I'm currently on the waiting list, and was wondering about maintenance once I take delivery. Would be great to see more on it! QQ; Can you demo proper oil level reading? I always follow the specs and haven't had trouble, but it seems it's always overfilled even when I've taken cars to the dealership. I let it rest for five minutes, still get overfilled.
They are pushing a lot of HP and Torque out of these tiny engines but if they are sturdy and build with strong internal components they will hold up. The deciding factor then is regular maintenace like oil changes every 3000-4000 miles or before a track day or autocross session.
americans shouldn't worry about reliability. The Japanese know how to build an engine with small displacement and high power. In the 60s honda had a 1.5L 4 cilinder with 1500HP. AUTO CRAFT a tuning company in japan already has pushed the engine of the corolla GR to 440HP reliably. Not everything needs to be an V8
It won’t because these will be beat on…….regular underpowered Corolla’s as by design are long lasting because of their design being low on power equals longer life of parts!
I have a GR Yaris (same engine, with -30HP due to the european exhaust and tune) and what a blast of a car it is. Recently I wrote a coment in another of your videos saying that I would let you service and repair my GR and I see that you got your hands on one already. Regarding what you mention arround 16:00 about the oil, both in europe and japan there is a specifically Gazoo Racing branded 0W20 oil that is up to the specification on the cap. No idea about the US, but I have to use that on my GR Yaris as it's almost impossible to find 0W20 elsewhere on generalist spare parts shops, yet alone that specific 0W20

So basically your saying the mobile one oil prevents LSPI and the Toyota one dosent??
@@justfelix30 In these current blends for the products AMD is referencing. It doesn't mean Toyota wouldn't be re-blend their oil and AMD is referencing a very specific MobileOne oil. From a quick look at the label in the video - it seems to be the "green label" Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-20 version. Which MobileOne states " Meets ILSAC GF-6 standards to help provide low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) and timing chain wear protection while keeping your engine clean".
@@joeythedime1838 So which is the preferred oil?Toyota still OK to use?Getting my new GR in 4 weeks and will be doing a 1st service at 1000km(Canada)
Just wanted to say a thanks to Ethan for allowing you to show us his amazing vehicle!! THANK YOU!!
Thank You Ethan, Bring It back soon so AMD can give us the engine break down and go on a quick road test. Enjoy that ride
Thank you Ethan
My friend told me about this car. So cool to see it in your shop. Thanks Ethan.
Thank you, Ethan! Awesome car! Though I am still not fully on board yet with small displacement turbo engines, applications like this exact one is nudging me closer to taking the plunge myself.
Thanks Ethan. Enjoy your new car!
Brother, you have done an excellent job with this review. Your knowledge and dedication to giving us the best raw information is always a pleasure. I have been in the market for one of these bad boys since launch. It's crazy how most dealers where I live are marking this car up $20k on top of MSRP+packages. Either way, I do hope I am able to find one, mainly for the reason that you said, this is one of Toyota's best cars they've produced that is 100% Toyota. Thank you for sharing and God bless.👏
Thank for letting us view your car
Way to go, Ethan. Thanks for letting us all share this quick view of your very special, good golly GR hard core rolla! 🏁
Keep up with more videos about this platform, please. It is Toyota engineering masterpiece and would be wonderful to see more details videos in the future.
Great car, Ethan! I hope she’s as good as our 2008 Corolla that’s pushing 200,000 yet still running like she did 15-years ago when new! (I just counted, 23-oil changes and due for one now!!) I didn’t know about Ahmed’s 6-month suggestion until he started this great channel!)
Not sure you can expect a turbo engine to reach 200,000 miles.
@@Krakondack my mazdaspeed 3 reached 140,000 miles. 12 years of pure happiness driving thru canyons here in Southern CA 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
@@Krakondack I know...I've never owned a turbo but wonder how long those turbo's last. In GM vehicles, if you get 3-years you're doing good!

@@ju4121 But I consider 12 years and 140,000 miles an early point in owning a car; I usually target about 8 years and 100,000 when buying. I expect a minimum of twice that out of it, and usually get more. San Diego; so rust is not an issue.
Ever since I started watching this channel you've made me want to go test drive the 2023 toyotas lol oh and take even more care of my 99 4runner sr5 with 260k miles
Glad you worked on Ethan’s GR. Most Toyota dealerships insist that first maintenance is not until 5K miles. Competence and truth are rare nowadays!
Looked up the specs on this thing. That lil' 3 banger has 300 HP! That is impressive, very impressive! Toyota has outdone themselves this time!
What do you think about these engines for the long term? I can’t imagine theses small turboed engines lasting as long as say a 4 cylinder naturally aspirated. Thanks!
Time will tell. I'm not optimistic that 3 cyl-turbo will hold up well.
Now that's the Real Question we askin here.
It won't be as reliable as a normal Corollas but it will definitely outlast an equivalent Golf R or Civic Type R
@@little123456788 The civic type r has 4 cylinders so it doesn’t have to work as hard . The Honda engines are reliable also. But a 3 cylinder? Now the golf maybe .
It's a Toyota. And it is using the homologation engine from the GR Yaris (superior chassis). 500hp and no issues with just some valve springs, past this the head will start to lift without better head studs. Long term will depend on use case and maintenance, but so far no premature failures that weren't user error.
This was awesome! Great video! Thanks to the owner for letting you shoot a video about it.
Nice car but you did the awesome job by doing exactly what the manufacturer said to do with the right oil you put in the engine This should tell everyone out there what a true Top Notch Mechanic would do to do the right thing when changeing the oil keep up your outstanding job you do on all cars that’s what makes you a Outstanding Top Notch Master Mechanic thank you my friend and I no you’ll never give up on doing what’s right for your costumers
Exactly, theres a big diference between what the "Stealership" tells you and the manufacturer. Dealerships dont give a shit, they are there to make money, the manufacturer take pride in their vehicles. Theres a massive diference between Toyota Japan and toyota america/ every where else sadly.
He should have used 5w instead, they rate engines nowadays for 0w for emissions reasons, but they will last longer using 5w.
Thank you Ethan! Love the simplicity of the oil drop and filter access.
Ethan is a lucky guy! I can't wait to get my GR Corolla, hopefully sooner than later! I actually got to see my first GR Corolla toadying person and it was very special. Just starting it up sounded amazing with the center exhaust open. After about a minute you could hear the valve close it and the exhaust note was quieter. What a car! I"m glad to be able to see under it for the first time too, thanks for that AMD! Looking forward to getting it up on my lift and doing my own oil changes. 😍🔥😎
Thank you Ethan from CA 🎈
Awesome ride, It’s essentially a race car for road users. Was Yamaha involved in the engine development? I know they’ve done a lot of work on previous Corolla’s.
Ethan muchas gracias. I'm retired 70 years old and drive a 2006 subaru sti. I may get one of these
The STI feels more powerful because of the torque and the power coming on in the lower RPM. I had a 2009 Legacy 2.5GT before this. I think I liked that more but this is a brand new car which comes with some perks. Some of the technology is extremely bothersome but that’s how all new cars are now. Lots of warnings and beeping and settings on a crappy tablet.
I was hoping you give a quick if not full review. I love this car. Thanks Ethan for bring it over.
Hello
I've owned a mustard yellow 1973 Corolla since 1988 that my dad gifted me on my 18th birthday. It's in pristine shape and I absolutely love it. He bought it brand new in 1973.
As a daily driver though, I got my 2022 Corolla GR sport 2.0 in pearl white and black top
Thanks for you content and best regards from Norway
Very cool, thanks for sharing! You think it's hard to see the 0W-20 oil on the dipstick, just wait until you have to do an oil change on the new Crown that requires 0W-8 oil!! 🤪
Really? We've gotten past 0w16 already?
Pretty soon engines will be running sewing machine oil, 😆
Pretty crazy how tight modern engines are.
@@volvo09 BMW also has a 0W-12 oil too!, yeah crazy!
Its really nice that someone isnactually doing a review on whats underneath the car, mozt videos out there are reviews of exterior, interior and engine bay but forgets what is actually underneath.
Thanks for taking your time making the video for everyone to see and understand.
fantastic sounding car. we had one come into my dealership for its PDI and damn near EVERYONE dropped what they were doing to go get a look.

Finally a tuber that understands. We dont want a mutt, we want toyota greatness!
Your channel should be the go to place for dealership, DIY, mechanics in general what to do in terms of service.
Glad to see a customer paying for an LOF at 1K miles out of his own pocket. A smart owner who plans to keep his car a long time.
Hey, I saw my Supra Turbo 7MGTE back in the corner ! I hope you make a video about it ! I love and miss this beauty with it's cool Targa roof !
Awesome! What a car! Such an amazing piece of driving excellence and a certain current and future classic.
Thank you Ethan for brining your GR Corolla in so that an excellent mechanic like the Car Care Nut could show us how passionate and enthusiastic he is for Toyota's.
Thank you Ethan! Thanks for the great tour of the car!
Thanks Ethan - enjoy the ride - being old I wish it had a auto trans, but will still look for one.
Very cool car… I’d be surprised if it ends up being as reliable as their other engines…
@@Cstoreri dude its a toyota, it will last longer than the new subaru wrx
2JZgte? 2URGSE? All high output, with no issues.
Im sooo much gonna try and get one Somehow ~~~~~ Awsome introduction to this car ! Very much thanks !
Been looking for someone to give this kind of visual tour if the undercarrage and controll arms extra ~~~ very well done
I Just wanted to say - THANK YOU for doing what you are doing. The most informative channel in my books. Your delivery, knowledge is Just simply amazing. You are a gem! Never stop
Really beautiful car, enjoy it Ethan, and as usual AMD a great review of its its underside showing the quality work of Toyota.
The right person to review it and the best to do service.
Thanks a million Ethan for being so generous! 👍👍
Much thanks two Ethan for allowing us to experience this beautiful vehicle.
@18:20 Reading the dip stick is sooo hard on this engine I was laughing out loud watching you try live. Imagine it in a low lit garage or something 😆
I don’t even have to watch this video to give it a “thumbs up.”
Sometimes ya just know.
This car simply looks the part - thank you Toyota.
Thankyou Ethan for letting us see your corolla GR and thankyou AMD for the tour
Thank you for your informative channel..well done, a true mechanic working on a masterpiece..thanks
My grandson has one of these on order. He was one of the very few of his generation that got his drivers license on a manual transmission vehicle. He has been driving my old 2005 Corolla with 250K miles on it but the clutch is finally starting to go and 18 Maine winter's is starting to take its toll in the rust department.
Thank you Ethan. What a treat this was!
Great explanation of a really sweet ride!
thank you Ethan awesome ride!
Thankyou for being an honest straight forward mechanic
Thanks Ethan for letting CCN show us your awesome ride.
Love this dude’s attitude! If he was my mechanic not only would I trust him implicitly, I’d pick up my car at a time convenient to buy him a beer. 🍻
Thank you Ethan for sharing an AWESOME car!!
As others have noted, added a turbo and high cam is not the same 200,000 mile formula. Amazing that we all watch these vids when we should be spending that time working to afford basic transportation. Car vids have become the new drug! lol I'm hooked.
Have sooooooo been waiting to see this, thank you Ethan, thank you Ahmed!
