    Just wanted to add this comment to anyone who's looking into this for RC usage. It's working out quite spectacularly as both an adhesion promoter, provided you scuff the body, a great scratch filler - which helps conceal the scuffing job, and it makes the paint impact resistant by making it very flexible.

    Hey Chris, when Im using 4050 (on goalie masks) as an intercoat on top of previously sprayed work...how long should I wait for the 4050 to dry before continuing to do more work? To add to that question, is additional scuffing required when the top coat is applied/cured?

    Hello there,
    I just wanted to tell yall I have been having excellent results with the 4050 with my airbrush. Mixing with candy2 0 is working better than the 4030 balancing clear. Gotta slow down a bit and watch my overlap passes and Vela, looks great. Sometimes a little Novus # 2 and polish to a high gloss.

    Thanks so much for the great and informative videos! Quick question after seeing the demo of these being used as adhesion promoters. If using this system on hard plastic like the controller faceplate you did in an earlier video, could you apply an autoborne sealer over that? Or would that not work well?

    Hey Chris, great video - thank you. I have everything working through my .5 airbrush just like you demonstrated. However, my only problem is that I am getting tip dry in between coats and its clogging up my airbrush and very frustrating. I'm leaving about 10 minutes in between coats and spraying at about 20 psi. Any way that I can avoid this without dumping my product and cleaning my brush with each coat? Thank you!

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Clean the tip before spraying each time. 20 minutes is a long time to leave the clear in the narrow passage of an airbrush. UVLS is best applied with a spray-gun. While it works with an airbrush, some maintenance with the tip may be required. Also, make sure to only thin with 4011 Reducer, which should be added to the clear ~ 25% per volume for airbrush use. Thank you.

    Great video. I always learn a lot. Any videos of using 4050 to shoot flake? Thx again

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our Lowrider Graphics video has UVLS Clear used as a flake carrier, If fairly simple: add flake to 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear, thin with 4011 Reducer, and apply with a 1.4mm tip size / flake gun. May need to keep agitating the cup (shake gun a bit( while spraying to keep flake from settling. Can apply over a “wet bed” of 4050, or other color. Thank you.

    Would I be able to use the uvls clear after I paint a baseball helmet?
    Great videos very informative 🙌🏽🙌🏽

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, UVLS Clears will adhere well and provide a lasting, protecting coating over the paint. UVLS Clears will show scratches, scuffs, etc. as the baseball helmet is used in games, however the "structural integrity" of the coating will be maintained even after prolonged abuse, and a simple scuff and re-clear can probably remove most damage if needed at the end of season, etc. Thank you.

    When using the 4050 either mixed in with candy2o or applied say as a midcoat to lock in some artwork between layers, do you recommend scuffing it at all before applying more paint over it or will the paint bite into itself? I remember with PPG DBC500 they recommended giving it a light scuff before applying more artwork over it. Thanks!

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We do not recommend scuffing / cleaning touching candy2o before applying a 2k clear or 4040 Bleed Checker over it. If using UVLS Clear as an inter-coat, yes, it can be scuffed flat before applying paint. This is for aesthetics, not adhesion. For more, please refer to the UVLS tech data sheet, thank you. creatextech.com/

    I'm working with the UVLS Clear for the first time (I'm new to this). I have the PPS 2.0 cup with 200 micron filter, and found that the clear is too thick to pass through the filter if not reduce, so I cut the filter out. Wondering if you have the same issue with you PPS system? Also using an LPH80 with 1.2 tip.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please refer to the UVLS tech data sheet: thinning with 4011 Reducer is recommended at 5% - 10% per volume, although doing so is optional. creatextech.com/pdf/tds/UVLS-Clears-TDS.pdf. For a LPH-80 with a 1.2mm tip, mixing 4011 at 10% (10% -15%) will work well. Allow the UVLS + 4011 mix 10+ minutes acclimation before spraying. Its OK to keep the 200 micron filter in; clears generally won't pass through it without reduction. Thank you.

    • @CreatexColors

      Correct, 4015 (and 4016) Cross-Linkers were only for the predecessor to UVLS, the SSR Clears, Createx's 1st acrylic - aliphatic ployurethane clear. UVLS don't require 4015 and cure to a much more durable coating compared to SSR. Thank you.

    Love the videos. I have a question can you add 4050 to your paint in the same manner you would add 4030?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, adding 4050 Gloss Clear to any Createx paint (add ~ 20% - 25% per volume) works well; when doing so, more thinning with 4011 Reducer is required compared to when adding 4030. This is a great mix for automotive & hard-surface (in fact, we don't use 4030 at all for autmotive anymore. This will be reflected in an upcoming tech update). Thank you.

    • @Paul-815
      @Paul-815 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      CreatexColorsCo thank you for the response. The reason I’m asking I tried using your 4030 mixed with your paint and I didn’t feel the paint was anymore durable. In fact I felt it was less durable, I could just run my finger nail on it and paint would scratch off. I’m painting rc bodies. I did topcoat with 4050 and that works great. That’s why I was wondering about using 4050 as a mix instead. I did mix per tech data, not sure if I did something wrong or got a bad batch of 4030. Thanks again.

    Wondering if this can be applied to a painted urethane rubber surface ( i have the gloss UVLS)...would it also act as a sealant for the paintjob in itself?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, 4050 works as an adhesion promoter over a painted urethane surface. 4050 basically works direct to most any substrate except silicone. For some substrates, such as polished steel and glass, air drying for a full 48-hours may be required for adhesion. We've another adhesion promoter, 7040, made for rubber, which has a bit more flex compared to 4050. 7040 is essentially 4050 mixed 3:1 5092 Latex Adhesion Promoter, which gives 4050 more compressive strength, and a bit more tack. 5092 can be mixed in any ratio with 4050. Thank you.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      4050 UVLS will work as a carrier for the auto glitter (metal flake) mixed with it. In regard to the final top-coat, a 2k gloss clear is best for candy2o as this will prevent the dyes from bleeding, however, UVLS Clear can be sued, it just won't have as good a mar resistance. A 2k urethane clear may be the best top-coat for your candy2o katana paintjob. Thank you.

      Yes, 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear can be used as a primer direct to drywall and any other substrate except silicone. For more, please refer to the UVLS tech sheet available at www.uvlsclears.com. Thank you.

    Are the Scenix SSR clears still in production?
    Would I be able to spray the uvls matte onto a polished surface without sanding first?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      UVLS Clears replaced SSR clears as they’re an improved version with all the same attributes. 4050 UVLS Gloss is the only clear recommended for use as an adhesion promoter, especially for an unscuffed surface (same for older SAR Clears, only gloss). After 4050, 4052 Matte can be applied for a matte finish. What makes the clear matte takes away from adhesion, making the gloss the best clear for use as an adhesive ground coat. Thank you.

      4050 is a urethane-resin product, which unlike an acrylic-resin used to make most Createx paints, will not thaw back into solution after freezing. Thank you.

      Yes, any Createx paint can be mixed with 4050 . Unless candy2o, the mix ratio is paint 4:1 4050. For more, please refer to the tech sheets available at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.

    I am going to use autoborne sealer black, dry pearl carried in uvls over the top and then I would like to 2k clear it. My question is after applying the pearl, can I 2k after it dries or do I need to put down a coat or 2 of UVLS to act as an intercoat on top of the pearl so I can then scuff before applying 2k without scuffing the pearl layer?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a catalyzed (2k) solvent-based, urethane clear can be used to top-coat any Createx paint, including UVLS Clear mixed with a dry-pearl flake. Thank you.

      @@CreatexColors so I do not need to scuff before using 2k clear, is that what you are saying? Is there a window that 2k has to be applied without needing to scuff? I just want to make sure I am following the correct tech.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Createx paints are non-catalyzed paints; no time window. Scuffing can be done to create a level surface but is not required for adhesion. Always make a test panel anytime using a new material before using on an actual paint project. Thank you.

    What is the longest time I can leave 4050, when you want to clear after with 2k clear?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After 4050 has air cured for 48hours its best to then scuff with 800-grit dry before top-coating with a 2k clear. If applying the 2k clear sooner, scuffing isn't required. Thank you.

    I have another question regarding UVLS clears. What kind of temperatures can they endure? I was planning on using some to clear a tumbler after it had some graphics airbrushed on, and I was wondering if the UVLS clear can handle the dishwasher?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      UVLS Clears are same for use in a dishwasher, allow a full 72+ hours curing at 70 deg. constant (or 6+ days) before running in a dishwasher. UVLS are good up through 350 deg.F. Thank you.

    Quick question: If I add 10% 4011 reducer to UVLS clear and mix it in a PPS cup. What is the shelf life of that mixture in the cup (assuming I use a sealing plug once I'm finished spraying)?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shelf-life is indeterminate; best practice is to only reduce what intended to spray that day. When reduced and kept in a PPS cup, keep the cup plugged and kept upside down so as to keep the filter wet. With this method, the reduced UVLS should be good to spray 24 - 48 hours after reducing. Thank you.

      Sorry, no. UVLS Clears are not recommended for use as a fishing lure top-coat clear. UVLS Clears are not for water-submerged paintjobs. We recommend a 2k urethane or epoxy clear for fishing lures. Thank you.

      We prefer a catalyzed urethane clear for candy20. UVLS Clears are architectural-grade clears suitable for use with most Createx paints other than candy20 for applications other than automotive and marine. Thank you.

    How flexible is the 4050?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      UVLS Clears, including 4050 Gloss, are architectural - grade clears intended for application onto hard-surfaces, however, they do have some flex as the clear is made with an acrylic-polyurethane resin. Thank you.
