I've read a couple of posts by people asking if this song is about an onion. If you listen to the lyrics you know that the song is about a girl whose name is a combination of her mother and father. Sammy Kershaw his singing about her. But as is typical with most country music, and I mean real country music not this top 40 crapola they have now, is that there is fantastic wordplay. Obviously Vidalia is an onion, which got its name from Vidalia Georgia, and is a cultivar of that state. If you wish to argue that point you can look at the history of the vidalia onion. What's great is his play on words in that sweet Vidalia, as vidalias are sweet onions, always wants to make him cry. Although it's not spelled the same (I like my names spelling better anyway) , my mom found this after she named me and I freaked out and this was my favorite song for the longest time. People are surprised when they learn that there is a song with my name in it cuz the name is so unique, there's only one vydailya but there are prob less than 100 Vidalias in this world, which is still extremely unique and it's such a beautiful name

i'd be Sammy's Vidalia anyday... It"s so funny i remember being with my grandmother when i was young and we saw Sammy Kershaw on TV and she said " now that is a good looking man" this was many years ago and grandma has since past but apparently she had good taste.
