Thanks so much for posting this. I love the "oh sh---" at the beginning. Actually, it was much easier in real life than it looks in the video, if you do this from the passenger seat. And I can confirm that wiring colors in the video match those of my 2019 Mk 7.5 Golf R.
Thanks for the video. This helped me get the R3 installed on my Golf Alltrack. The housing is a little different and there are only three wires red black and brown. Seeing you take off the mirror saved me.
Thank you for this. I actually had trouble finding the switched power wire for the auto dimming mirror at first, so I was lazy and ended up connecting it to the rain/light sensor which made it work 24/7 since the sensor is always working (for the coming/leaving home lights to work). This made the Uniden really hot and I didn’t wanna take a risk breaking it so I followed your video again. Thanks!
That is one nice thing, well more then one nice thing, about the Mk7 R, the wiring for the auto-dimming mirrors. I found that disappointing in the Mk6 R. It'll be interesting to see how you like the detector after a few months. People I've talked to have said that the new adaptive cruise controls on newer cars cause lots of false alarms, so they stopped using them. Guess you'll see! Good luck and great video!
Hey Mike. I remember the MK6 not having the auto dimming rearview. It's a nice amenity to have now I guess. Yup I have heard about more frequent alerts as well. Let's see how it goes!
This helps a lot on my project... I have a Atlas and the same set up as yours ... gives me idea on the parts ... thanks! I also have Uniden R3... love that detector... very accurate
I'm wondering if I have the same ability to do this on my 15 which does not have an autodim. I'd LOVE to be able to run such a short and simple hard wire but I'm worried I probably wont have anything right there to tap into like you do :(
I wonder how hard it would be to retrofit the auto dimming mirror. I’d like to run the same setup. My MKV setup ran the cable down the a pillar trim into the fuse box and it was decently clean but I’m always looking for the cleanest setup possible.
@@vadimsedletsky9251 if you’re in the states definitely lucky man. Check out the Badgeskins product if you’re looking for a quick way to hide the amber side markers. Wish I can upgrade to the latest gen R but we need more space. Enjoy and drive safe Vadim 🤜🤛
@@ilimit Ight. What about not having a mirror cover thing to hook it into. It's just the mirror on the little stick. Guess I'm sticking with having the wore hanging over my dash then? Lol

Glad it helped 👍
I've been looking to get a uniden and mount it this way, this video is exactly what I was looking for
Hope it helps 👍
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. Very helpful
Glad it helped!

Glad it helped. I got plenty of help from forum members so I cant take the credit. 👍
Fantastic demo. I did my install in 5 mins. Hardest part was putting the trim back on without gaps. Still a little gap but I can live with it
Thanks! The blendmount is perfect.

Glad you were able to have that issue resolved. Love the blendmount solution for these detectors
@@ilimit I actually didn’t buy a mount yet, using the suction cups that came with it. The blend mount is perfect but so expansive!

Nevermind. Found out it lol. Thank you so much for uploading these videos

Josh, if the rearview mirror is manual dimming, I doubt this method would work. I really like my current setup because it is so clean.

so red to constant and black to ground?
How do Ik if I have a auto dimming mirror and if I do how do I take off the little plastic cover on the back of my mirror on my 2017 mk7 gti
If you don't have the manual toggle under your rearview and if your mirror automatically dims at night.
Super helpful. Mirror was a bitch to get back on !
Glad it helped. I was worried about mounting it back on as well, but it wasn't so bad for me.
Will it be the same way for the mk7 jetta?
I’m not quite sure, sorry
Lol I can't figure out what to turn counterclockwise behind the mirror on a 19. Seems like one solid piece
Did it end up working? I wonder if the 7.5 is that different?
@@ilimit thanks, yes it did.. Just a little more elbow grease. Thanks for the video
Thats good job.
Thank you sir
@@ilimit just used it for my mk8 R. Its the same.
@@vadimsedletsky9251 congratulations on the new R!
@@ilimit thank you! Feeling quite blessed in this crazy market being able to find one

What price you pay for it?
I paid about $270 for the R3. $18 for the hardwiring kit.
Nice Matt from Obsessd garage installs these on all of his cars. Lmk how it is...might be my next purchase for the R. Flush mount of course
Does your mirror autodim?
Yessir
@@ilimit did you swap it out or it came like that?
It came stock 👍
@@ilimit 🤔 I have a 16 as well but I have a different one, oh well guess I will try to find the part number I like the cleaner look.
Oh you mean the borderless? Try the forums. Someone might be selling bc they swapped for a homelink mirror.
how would i do this with a 2017 GTI?
Unless you have auto dimming, probably need to tap into your dome lights or hardwire to fuse box.

You can always hardwire it via the a-pillar to the fuse box 👍
@@ilimit good lookin out 🙏
