    The Model S is still very much competitive. Or best of the best... Just because Tesla doesn't give it a new front every year doesn't mean it is not improving.

      The interior is lacking pretty hard, especially easy to fix, but annoying things like the door panels lacking storage, cupholder placement, window switch placement, no fold down arm rests in the rear seat. I'm glad to see they finally brought ventilated seats back though, I hope they can refresh these issues soon to make it competitive with the model 3 for interior design. The drive of the 100D's is amazing and still unparalleled though!

    Great videos Good job. I have a modle 3 and I have taken several trips that is 200 mi with a full charge of 307 mi I get range at 70 mph and the heat on I get a range of 227. I lose about 80 mi in a 200 mile trip. One time I was in the middle of no where and was all most out battery. This is what I did. I slow down but what made the difference was turned off the heat. I was able to get 295 with 5 mi left. Please do a video of this with every thing off. I turned off the light and radio and got more miles. Change my speed didn't make a big difference. I am sure this will help others who need a few extra miles thank Larry

  • @akse

    So I guess this is pretty much the range 99% of people will be happy with.Now next improvement is charging speed and battery weight (energy density). Charging speed of course pretty good already but not all the way from 0-90-100 yet.

    And this is the performance with 21 inch. Normally the normal one will be even 10-15% more efficient!!

    • @AOTanoos22
      @AOTanoos22 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ASTZDomidragon it's gonna be more efficient but not by 10-15 percent at all. In fact he was cruising on the highway so the 21 inch wheels were not bad at all and even better than 19 inch wheels if you want to carry speed when not accelerating. Only when accelerating the 21 inch wheels use more energy and that's it and he was barely accelerating in this test. So it would be something like 2-4% more efficient with 19 inch wheels in this test.

    • @ASTZDomidragon
      @ASTZDomidragon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AOTanoos22 I drive every day with a Performance Model S on 21inch. In Sommer with 21 I have around 228wh/km. In Winter with 19inch (and like I said its winter) I have around 207wh/km. Thats about 8-9%, plus the winter inefficiency. And I drive the same way mostly, cause its my working way. Only Highway, 40km each way. (maybe 1km City street of it)

    • @npbetts1
      @npbetts1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Elon actually said there wasn't room for a larger battery pack in the 3. It will have to wait for new battery technology or a complete redesign.

    • @lubricatedgoat
      @lubricatedgoat 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@npbetts1 Yeah. Higher energy density batteries. Not too far off. 400 Wh/kg batteries would fit.
      To avoid cannibalising the S, the S would have commensurately larger energy storage.
      Of course this isn't needed as it would give the 3 a range of almost 800 km, but you could charge at maximum speed for much longer, say, to 70% SOC, in record time, and have tons of range.

    Typically Li-ion batteries have this extra capacity the first 5-10 cycles - sometimes a little longer.
    This is not counted as the nominal capacity but rather a residual part of the so called formation process that happens at production. Actually a passivation layer is formed that will reduce the subsequent capacity decrease during use.
    I used to refer to such non cycled cells as 'virgin cells' and all real tests were done with non-virgin cells that had minimum 5 cycles.
    So Tesla is not cheating - you just have 3-5% extra initially.

    • @renebergqvist599
      @renebergqvist599 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@MrConor159 Yes the bare anode surface is reactive i just kept it in layman terms - it needs to be formed so it doesn't crack and re-open. This SEI impacts the impedance and thereby the perfornance of the device .
      In principle it gradually builds over time and is also what causes limitations on charging currents and especially cold weather performance....
      This is likely not the forum for these detailed discussions.

    I’d love to see a range test done at speeds like 65mph (105km/h) , then 75-80mi/h (120-130km/h) to simulate the speed most people will be driving on US roads when going on long-distance trips.
    One thing I don’t get: Elon’s aversion to refreshing the S and X. They’re old and outdated, mainly on the interior. A thorough refresh of the inside would have gone a long way to regenerating interest in the S and X. I feel like the 3 feels much more modern and even more expensive than the S/X. I much prefer the horizontal screen vs. the portrait display and I detest the ancient Mercedes steering wheel and steering mounted stalks. They just feel so old compared to the 3.
    Also, Elon needs to release a CCS adapter for the US cars. It’s frustrating we are only offered a $450 ChaDeMo adapter that is pretty much useless.

    Everytime I watch a Tesla vid, I get an ad from Fossil automakers, I wonder if they are trying to persuade me to buy an ICE, but I can tell you that personally I find it annoying and actually reinforces my desire to own an EV (Tesla) and not an old dinosaur fossil ICE vehicle.
