Hello , i love watching your videos. You have a unique gentle way of fishing and you also explain things which is good too. Keep up the good work my friend.. tight lines 🙂
Hythe was my favourite spot for 40 years. Good for kayak fishing. A hot calm day is deadly for sea fishing. Never caught much in those conditions. My best beach cod was caught there in 2006. A 20lb cod, at 2.30 am, on a Spring tide two hours after high. It's an ebb tide beach really.
Thanks for watching and commenting Mike. I agree with you about conditions - the follow up Hythe video to this one has contrasting weather conditions and surprise results - I'm not sure when I'm going to put it out though! Well done on your capture - my best cod (shore caught) was 17lb 3oz from the Bristol Channel in 2011.
@@rodsangleuk6283 My cod was in poor condition. It also had scars on it's head, looks like a lucky escape from a net or something. The odd thing is, I was only lobbing the bait to the bottom of the slope, aout 40 yds. I guess on the ebb, fish move along the bottom of the beach for anything washed down. i was throwing used bait into the surf when re-baiting, so these bits of squid ended up rolling down the slope. Something to think about, a short cast from high into the ebb? Might be good for Bass too. Iv'e caught Brill off there as well. That was just to the left of the groyn by the fish restaurant. Off the kayak, using dayflash white lures, there are quite a few Gurnard about 500yds offshore, they like a mackerel lure. I found the plain bright white lures the best. Tight lines.
Excellent video.....technically and educationally. Thanks very much for posting. I have noticed that on most (if not all) occasions you set your rod rest such that your rods are almost but not quite at right angles to the incoming / outgoing tide. It would be interesting (and no doubt helpful) if, in a future video, you explained why. Stay safe and stay healthy. Cheers. Ken
Thanks a lot Jonathan! I do fish Sheppey, Seasalter and Reculver, but haven't been there for a while and am not an expert on North Kent venues - but will at some point cover them. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Fishermen are like magnets Roy people are just naturally attracted to them . Fished here many a time when i lived in the UK . Thanks for the upload Dengemarsh was another good venue down by the coastguard tower beyond the power station . The best Bass fishing i ever had was by the fishing boats at Dungeness great days .
Very true @Arfabiscuit. Thanks for your comments. Yes I've recently done well at Dengemarsh - another venue I hadn't fished for years. I stopped going to Dengeness due to the decline in cod, but am back there now
Arfabiscuit - Hi Arfa, I'd like to fish near the Diamond, Dengemarsh, but it seems the beach is very steep, and I want to take a shelter. Is there level beach there, where I can set it up? Would I need to set up right at the top of the beach? Thanks.
Glad you like them Martin! I do fish the Bristol Channel a fair amount and you are right - most of the decent cod and thornbacks I've caught have been from there.
Thank you for the great videos. Brings back memories of fishing in Clacton when I was a kid.Did you ever think of offering a fishing guide service for people who want to start sea fishing?
Thanks for your kind words Clive. It's a nice suggestion; however finding the time maybe a problem these days, as I'm also heavily involved with match fishing on the coarse side!
It's like going for a poo in a long line of empty cubicles! You can guarantee the next person in will choose the cubicle next to you, even though all the others are empty.
Yes, its strange what happens on beaches - certainly that appeared to be the case every time I fished Studland! To be fair at Hythe, Marine parade was filling up quickly late morning, but people were avoiding my area - its just that it got so busy the only spaces left ended up being around me, so also got taken. Its inevitable that at some point some will end up paddling and swimming too!
Another great video filled with loads of info thanks. I will definitely be giving this venue a try im hungry for the dinner plate size plaice. Im pretty sure i went to this venue back in the 80s after a storm and found half the seabed had disappeared and was strewn across the road. Anyway im after a box seat just like yours and was wondering if you could tell me what make it is and were you got yours. Many thanks.
Thanks Mark. Hythe can be good for plaice at times, so good luck. Plenty have asked about the bucketseat - its a RidgeMonkey Bucket System XL; I got it online, but can't remember where from - shouldn't be too difficult to find.
Nice video, enjoyed that! I’ve fished Hythe many times and have never done well on the early and mid flood, I found the best fish were an hour before and three hours after high water. You did well staying with all those people around, no way I could have dealt with that and would have been off at the first sign of a pink seal in the water :p
Fished there a few times over the last few years, had swimmers under my lines, a paddle board paddling into my lines, dogs (don't mind dogs as long as they don't claim my rods as their own!). Trouble is, like everywhere else there is no live and let live , or common courtesy!
Thanks for watching @K and I Fishing Adventures - In just shrug my shoulders, bite my tongue and get on with it, without trying to start World War Three.
Anthony, they are Grauvell Teknos Dues - I'm using the spliced tips here. With the hollow tips, they are fine for fishing for big fish in stronger currents / tides.
@@rodsangleuk6283 Thank you for replying. I have just ordered them both. Keep up the good videos. If you're on Instagram check out my catches at @fishingaroundbudleigh
Rather you than me, but yes you can take them - there are size limits though, which I'm not sure of, since I'd rather put them back, or not see them at all!
Many thanks again. I must find time to catch up on watching yours and others' videos - I seem to be either fishing, digging bait or video editing all the time at the moment! Need some storms - but then again I'm waiting for good conditions to target bass!
I noted that in most of your videos if not all you keep your rod rest angle quite low and parallel to the sea, is this for any particular reason or just personal choice?
A good question Ken, and I hope to partially address that in the next video at Gravesend. I keep rods low when fishing for flatfish to keep snoods tight to the bottom as much as possible and rods generally pointing up drift with line to sinker hopefully at about 90 degrees. This is a habit formed after years of freshwater river feeder fishing with braid and keeping tight to the lead rather than fishing with a bow in the line as you might with mono. It helps me spot more finicky bites, which I tend to strike in to. It works for me - I'm sure others will tell me I'm doing it all wrong! Thanks for watching and your question.
@@rodsangleuk6283 always been a Century man but getting more interested in the long rods as I'm not getting any younger. I live on the East Coast of Scotland but usually makI'me a trip to the South Coast every year so your info n the Sussex beaches is first class
Many thanks for that. Yes - I've fished Hythe a couple of times since - arriving 3hrs before the top of the tide and fishing 2 1/2 hrs either side. The crabs aren't happy as more bait was saved for the fish!
I'm gradually getting through all your videos Rod. I love this one dealing with common summer fishing problems, but you always stay positive.
Thanks for that Tony.

That beach seems to be a couple miles long but hey lets sit behind the fisherman and swim under his lines seems like a good idea right ?
Par for the course Sean. Its a bit of a distraction, but can live with it. Thanks for watching.
I must say, the camera work on your videos is very good, creating different angles to make the session more interesting 👍

Spider crabs are good eating, some of them look sizable, not tempted to take one for the pot?.

Another good video, good to see you did get target species, pity about running out of bait just as the fish were coming on.

What is a good distance rod for a cast
Colmic 07 Superior - just started using them - cast 30m further than my Grauvells.

How unbelievably inconsiderate some people can be. Miles of beach and they camp on top of you.
That's a problem you live with when fishing popular beaches.
