"Sober" from Tool's "Undertow" album (1993).
So.. 30 seconds after I say "I'm officially done with Tool", a patron requests Sober. I don't mind though. Truth is, I really don't want to cover Lateralus and Vicarious. None of my basses will sound good in Vicarious since it's so high up the neck. CoverSolutions' cover of Lateralus is perfect so there's no need for that. Aaaaanyway, that being said, his cover of Sober definitely isn't perfect. For example, the chorus. There's no way that Paul actually played those weird chords on the 1st fret. Paul liked easy but fast riffs. He'd never play that chord. Anyway, here's my version. I didn't change my strings for this one and I think you can definitely hear that. Buuuut I am glad that I covered it after all these years :)

This is literally the only Tool song I’ve seen without any Time Signature change.
Being the one who requested this number, I've had plenty of time to compare this to all the many other leading "tabs" out there, and not one comes close to this one esp in regards to ACCURACY, FILL VARIATION, and the most SENSICAL location of notes on the fretboard ----- > THATS MY LEO!!!!!!!!!
Not one bass tab cover channel comes even close to you.

It's definitely a bit different from his cover. Especially during the choruses. I'm convinced that Paul didn't play any chords there.

Great tab! I saw a video on reddit where someone did the outro of sober, where the dead notes are has some harmonics. I never noticed this myself but if you were to listen to the outro again I'm sure youll also hear the harmonics being played. I'm just not sure where to put which harmonics...

How do you tune a 5 string to drop d? Just the E string go down?

Don't slap the B string.
It is difficult for sure. But there's also multiple ways to mute that string at all times :)
for example muting with your middle finger on the fretting hand.
Just play a D on that string too, easy. 😉
Have you thought about doing bouncy arab, it's short but really interesting

Your vids are 10 times better than CoverSolutions. I personally hate his Sober/Vicarious covers.
I think he's been putting out great stuff the last few years, but his Sober cover is indeed a little lacking.

I mean, they are my favourite band, but not for those reasons. I think if you want some real time signatures that will throw you off, you gotta listen to Animals as Leaders and bands like that. Every band will have fans like that I guess
