"Reflection" from Tool's "Lateralus" album (2001).
This is just a re-upload. Why is there no intro with a countdown? Well it's because this was literally taken from the video where I play Disposition, Reflection and Triad in one go. The upcoming Triad video will also be the same as this one. Unedited. Anyway, a lot of you just wanted to have a video for Reflection so here you go!
Some important information that nobody is going to read.
Tuning : D-A-D-G
Artist : Tool
Bassist : Justin Chancellor
Album : Lateralus (2001)
Song : REFLECTION
Bass : Warwick GPS Corvette 5A Ash - เพลง
Just a reupload, taken from the Disposition-Reflection-Triad video.
But the 3 go together only! JK that vid is my fav
People who casually listen to music don't understand and appreciate just how much sound the bass brings to life. I'm glad that tool fans recognize how integral the bass is to the overall tool sound. Great covers my dude
Thanks man :)
this song and this band is the sole reason for me buying a bass lovely things
As a bass player i apreciate u so much 🩷
@seldomme14 the bass line is so intricately rinding the drum groove. Just learned the basic drum groove and now the bass line. Blew my mind. Not what i was expecting. 🤯
Without a doubt my favourite tool song and probaby top 5 songs of all time. Adore this. Truly. Reminds me of getting lost in morrowind in my youth
Ahhhh I definitely get that. I didn't even play anything when I discovered Reflection. I just started at the wallpaper in awe lol.
Also my favourite Tool song and a top 5 all time favourites :)
Justin Chancellor is really smooth with his use of rhythm. The whole band is.
He's really underrated, half that distinctively "fat" Tool sound is all him.
@@BigUriel lmao a year late but every fan of tool loves Justin and understands that the bass is a major part of their sound
@@BigUrielexactly, their most famous riffs are from the bass not the guitar
like just off the top of my head, sober, forty six and 2 and schism and they are all known for those iconic bass lines
@inundertow5638 not to mention their grooves. 🤯🤯
this song is so beautiful, it has helped me get through some dark moments. great cover
Thank you so much :)
It's my favourite Tool song.
Same here. Had to learn it!
8:32 This part is so complex when you look at all the parts. Talking about leaving behind a place so negative, blind and cynical and if you just look at the guitar and bass parts, they just reflect that. But Maynard sings through this "dissonance" with his voice of hope. Just beautiful!
Taking the opportunity, thank you for all your astonishing work on Tool cover-lessons Leo, much appreciated! Hope you're doing ok with all this pandemic situation.
No problem! I am doing fine, thank you. Hope you're doing fine yourself :)
man those first 3 mins are so mesmerizing. Great work dude! Reflection is a fucking awesome song.
Indeed.. Thank you!
I just finished playing through your Disposition Reflection Triad video, then you upload this.
No way :o
LeoBassCovers I finished playing and TH-cam said "encore". lmao
Even more pain!
Imagine someone wrote this...Tool is one of the greatest bands ever! 🔥🔥 Thank you for this!
No problem!
Hands down best bass cover I've seen on TH-cam so accurate every one else that has done this song on bass is terrible good job man!!
Thank you very much!
This song Touch my Soul. AMAZING Job ❤
Man, you always do the best Tool covers. Fantastic!
Thank you so much!!
For the longest time, this was my favorite composition, but then I heard Invincible 😁! Great job, Leo!
Thanks Eric!
Awesome my man!
Impresive! This is a masterpiece
Reflection is Perfection❤️ Good job man 👏👏
Thank you so much!
Ayyyyyyy perfect timing thanks
i love you so much for this
Thanks for suggesting it!
so excellent! thank you!
Thanks a lot!
f..king amazing
I fu$&n love this
HAHA you finally fucking did it. Love ya leo! thanks for the help!
Yep! No problem :)
My dad said that the first bass line is the same as "Sanctified" from Nine Inch Nails. I've compared the two and they're different, but the structure is very similar, both start big and bold with a "fast paste" feeling and then "slow down" with higher notes at the end of the measure.
AND .. both songs were composed under the sun moon and stars..
ale najbardziej to to kocham
hey i know this isn’t necessarily something you’d do but recently i’ve really been into the band “vulfpeck.” i know you’re more into metal and what not but you should totally give them a listen and check out their bass lines because as someone who listens to tool a ton i found myself really surprised.
I'll try it when I get the chance :)
I actually don't listen to metal at all so.. who knows right.
Nice good job 👍 I assume you toke that clip from the disposition reflection And Triad video??
Yeah. Kinda what I said in the comments and description.
How do you do the first bit so smoothly. I can play it but with just a bit of struggle more so on hitting the 4 2 bit everytime
Most of your fingers should be hovering above the strings after the last note of the riff so you should be able to grab the chord with ease. So you might be holding on to too many notes.
@@LeoBassCovers2 Cheers mate :)
Would you ever consider doing the more recent version of Opiate?
I said that I would not cover extended versions of Tool songs in my latest update video, so I'll live up to that for now. There's too much other music for me to just focus on Tool jams.
I hope one day you reconsider making a "Prison Sex" Tutorial :D
Maybe one day..
Good idea! Maybe even cover the Tool song? 😂
That's a good one!
Hey leo, what does your eq setup look like for all these tool songs you've done? I've gotten close to Justin's sound but you're much closer. Any insight is appreciated!
I honestly don't focus that much on the settings. I know that all my knobs are just sitting at 5/10. I typically use a lot of bass and treble with some distortion. I have changed tones a lot throughout the years so it's hard to say. I remember using a KHDK abyss pedal for this video. But recently, I've been using a guitar amp for treble and a bass amp for the bass/mids which seems to work very nicely for Tool.
This song makes wanna spend thousands just to get that tone
Amazing chancellor riff
Very iconic..
@@LeoBassCovers2 and you play it incredibly, Leo. Incredibly. Thank you for sharing your passion with us.
Thank you so much!
Here is a thing i can't get at the moment. Maybe you can help out. At 2-0-0-0-H2-2: Are you hitting the open A two or three times before the Hammer-On? Must be three times but feels like two times and when i play it myself it feels better and more correct with two times.
The first 0 is a pull-off, the second 0 I do strum and the 3rd 0 is already the hammer-on so I play it twice yep
@@LeoBassCovers2 f*** me upside down the pull-off was missing! Now it makes so much more sense and really fells better while playing. It's really fun to play. Thanks man!
No problem! I can imagine how that must've felt awful without the pull-off lol
@@LeoBassCovers2 kinda, it's crazy how this little change in playing changes the feel completely. For me at least.
My goal in 2021 is to learn this song!
You'll be able to play it in no-time :)
Don’t you ever want to use a loop pedal for songs like this haha
Definitely!
Where the fun in that
I’d love to see a Sin by Stone Temple Pilots tab
You have another video called top 10 favorite tool riffs or something like that where you play this song a little differently, which sounds much better to my ears. Instead of 2-0-0-0-2-2 you play 2-2-2-0-H2-2-2 or something like that. Which version is the more accurate one would you say?
Oh yeah, i remember. The other one was more fun to play but this version is more accurate :)
@@LeoBassCovers2 Yeah this one is much harder to play right.
Hey Leo what model warwick are you using for this cover?
Warwick GPS Corvette 5A Ash :)
Thank ya sir. Tone is on point.
good
fucking
shit
Thank
you
I feel the bass talking to me.
It is..
do you listen to rhcp?
Yes! First band I really liked when I was younger. And also first band I saw live :)
What's the tuning on this track?
Drop D, DADG :)
@LeoBassCovers thanks. That's what I was thinking.great playing BTW.
Thank you!!
I affectionately refer to this song as The Turkey Maynard song
Is it because of the lilty stringed instrument that shows up a tad before vocals twice in the song? I’m thinking you’re mistaking a sarangi for Maynard
@@brendanf8845 1:47, you mean? That’s where I get the nickname for this song
@@metroidhunter965 yep that’s the ol Sarangi, I thought it was Maynard until I listened on Max volume and recognized the rosined sound of the strings
@@brendanf8845 I’m still gonna use that nickname because the idea of Maynard in the soundbooth making that noise is hysterically funny.
@@metroidhunter965 absolutely understandable, the fact that it sounds so much like a sound Maynard can make shows how versatile he is tbh. And how eerie the Sarangi can be
This is a nice song but damn it repeats so much and I got a lot of cramps the first time I ever learned this song
Well that's the beauty of it. It sucks you in with the constant repetition.
If you think this is repetitive and causes cramps .... Please give Triad a try 😂
