i'm not a vlogger of some sort that requires 4k video stabilization and do not take night time selfies often. that's why for the price of a54 for those gorgeous daylight photos and selfies that's identical, and sometimes better, than s23, i'll definitely choose it any day over a flagship that's double the price. i'm an A50 user and i waited 4 years for samsung to finally release an A series that is worth my upgrade. this is definitely it! thank you for the comparison!

The camera is absolutely up to date, the performance is about the same level, maybe even smoother. Finally real 5G & the adaptive 120HZ screen is great. Nothing stutters so far & even RR3 runs smoothly in the highest settings. Glass front and back - the huge battery lasts almost forever. And it is built much more stable, which you notice immediately. It may not be ultra-fast, but the differences to the top smartphones are hardly noticeable in everyday use. But 5 years of support & I can continue to use my 1TB memory card 2. The only downside is the heavier weight due to the glass, frame & large battery. Anyway, I'm excited!! Thumbs up. Tip: Buy a silicone case & a screen protector immediately.
I think that both phones take great photos, and in many situations I do prefer the ones captured by the a54. If we were to consider only the camera, then the a54 would be a better choice since the price is lower.But there are more reasons to choose a phone, like autonomy, charging speed, build quality and durability. Anyway, the a54 doesn't disappoint.
I'm planning on getting the A54 soon and I appreciate this video for showing me the camera potential of both phones. I think the night mode of the samsung s23 is awesome even when taking pictures in the dark. But, then I realized taking pics in a pitch black place would be too scary for me to do lmaoo so ill stick with the A54 since the camera is just as good with minimal difference. :)
Im thinking of getting this phone for my brother, and I think its absolutely nuts how the A54 appears to take more color accurate images than the S23. I hope the new camera update that Samsung will be pushing out address this bc I kind of tire of the oversaturated and overly sharpened images known for Samsung. Edit: Also the images come out appearing sharper on the A54 main camera because it is using a 50 MP sensor and its either the default or its the only setting. On the S23 you can also take 50 MP images though the default is 12 MP

Like you, the only things I find the S23 better for are video stabilization at 4k, slightly better night shots in very dark surroundings, and night selfie shots. For everything else, and it's crazy to say, the A54 is better, detail, colors... 🤦🏽♂️

It's similar to the difference between using a Canon DSLR with the kit 18-55 mm lens & switching to a way more expensive Canon zoom or prime lens. There is a difference but it's very very small when using the camera in good light. For the casual photographer buying extra lenses was about as useful as burning a stack of $50 bills.😂🤣

The 4K30 on the A54 is a bit wider cuz of now EIS. Both phone perform really well and cuz of the price of the A54 is what makes it really good. And the video performance on the A54 at night is really good when compared to the S23. Less noise and sharper images.

The A54s videos and pictures seem to have a darker tone or not as bright, but more vivid contrast. The S23 seems to take in more light so the videos and pictures are brighter. For the price of the S23 I can get a A54 5g + a good 3 axis gimbal to go with the phone.
Initially I was impressed by how stable the video seems even when running on S23. But then I see the quality of the record is still better on A54 because S23 blurs everything that's further away...I like the front camera video on S23 better....ah, I think it comes down to price. I don't think most people even use all the features of a flagship phone so I think they spend their money needlessly. But, it's their money!

Very well made video comparison. At half the price the A54 is the better option for me since photos are more important than videos. I do not play intense graphic games and currently own the A52 5g but the aspect ratio of 20:9 has been giving me some issues on certain sites and apps. A54 uses 19.5:9 the same as Apple which is better since you can fit wider pages easier. I will miss the headphone jack but still get the micro SD slot and e-sim capability which I do not have. Samsung's one UI has gotten better than it was in the dark ages ;)

yes, there is eis for the front and rear cameras at 1080p. Supposedly the last update also added eis for 4k recordings on the rear camera. I haven't personally tried it
Thanks for the great video! I didn't expect this. In common the A54 makes sharper and detailed pictures then the S23. The only con of the A54 is the stabilisation. I can live with that. I am not a vlogger. And then overall the con of the A54 is that it is missing a wireless charless. That can be fixed by an accessoires, but that option has just max. 7.5 Watt charging capabilities compared to the 15 Watt of a S23. An another option for me is to wait for the 'S23 FE', but even then it costs double of the A54. Hmmmm
@@RedskullPro That could be an option. But then I have to look for a refurbished S22(!) The only con is that last upgrade/update expected is February 2026, so that's about 2.5 years. The last upgrade/update for S23 is to be expected May 2028 which is 4,6 year. The point is that they increased the number/years of upgrades/updates with 1 year between the S22 and S23. So in case you buy a phone for 3-4 years, then the S22 serie is out of scope. As an owner of the S23 I gotta say I'm super disappointed by the cameras by now. Night Mode on my previous S10 looks so much better because of the terrible image processing. Also my phone is affected by "Bananagate" so for example taking pictures of documents always leads to blurred out texts. And overall picture quality is super inconsistent. Pretty sad because outside of the cameras the phone is incredible.
I had s10e and the photos were much worse quality-wise than from my current s23. However nighttime pictures in night mode are indeed too yellow and it needs to be fixed

Thanks for this comparison. But there are questions here. What about the zoom? Seems that this comparison is not unbiased. Zoom of s23 is definitely better. Also when you show the photos on the screen size, they may look similar or sometimes better on A54, but if you zoom in the photos taken, you clearly notice how much detail is lost in A54.
Your video helped a lot for me to understand the A54 could be perfect as I'm not having any intention of recording crappy, shaky videos in highest resolution... 😂😂 HD or maximum Full HD with optical and ectronical video stabilization is perfect for me (also from storage demand per video and handling it in movie software). And that seems to work perfectly with a smooth video during walking... here is just no need for going to the ultrasharp video format... Thanks for your test adn maybe a little more attention to HD or Full HD resolution could be more realistic for majority of users.

The A54 has more storage capacity that the S23. If your into you 4k video, that could matter. S23= 1000gb max, no removable micro sd card storage. A54= 1512gb max with its removable 1tb micro sd card storage. 👍

Is Bluetooth 5.3 definitely installed on it, or is this one of Samsung's marketing moves? On their official website, the Exynos 1380 processor supports a maximum of Bluetooth 5.2.
It's wrong to compare these 2 devices... I had an a51 and bought a54 yesterday... To me it's a downgrade in camera, the rest seems pretty much the same. It's a big con that we have to keep upgrading... They keep lowering spec to make us feel we need to upgrade.
I think that the smartphones are so good by now that the main differences between a premium and a intermediary smartphone isn't enough to justificate the difference in prices. As shown on the video, those pictures are so similar in good conditions. In low-light conditions, it's true, s23 is waaaay better - but tell me, will you post any low-light conditions photos anyway? Even with all post-processment, it doesn't mean that the photo is good enough to be posted...

yes, there is eis for the front and rear cameras at 1080p. Supposedly the last update also added eis for 4k recordings on the rear camera. I haven't personally tried it

I didn't expect this. In common the A54 makes sharper and detailed pictures then the S23. The only con of the A54 is the stabilisation. I can live with that. I am not a vlogger.
And then overall the con of the A54 is that it is missing a wireless charless. That can be fixed by an accessoires, but that option has just max. 7.5 Watt charging capabilities compared to the 15 Watt of a S23.
An another option for me is to wait for the 'S23 FE', but even then it costs double of the A54. Hmmmm
How about a slightly used S22?

That could be an option. But then I have to look for a refurbished S22(!)
The only con is that last upgrade/update expected is February 2026, so that's about 2.5 years. The last upgrade/update for S23 is to be expected May 2028 which is 4,6 year.
The point is that they increased the number/years of upgrades/updates with 1 year between the S22 and S23. So in case you buy a phone for 3-4 years, then the S22 serie is out of scope.

As an owner of the S23 I gotta say I'm super disappointed by the cameras by now.
Night Mode on my previous S10 looks so much better because of the terrible image processing.
Also my phone is affected by "Bananagate" so for example taking pictures of documents always leads to blurred out texts.
And overall picture quality is super inconsistent.
Pretty sad because outside of the cameras the phone is incredible.
It almost seems like the camera’s performance changes with every update… 🤷♂️ maybe the next one will make it better
I had s10e and the photos were much worse quality-wise than from my current s23. However nighttime pictures in night mode are indeed too yellow and it needs to be fixed
Thanks a great comparison. What you said about the lack of stabilization of the A54 and slight 'yellowness' of the s23 is true and disappointing, so the photos from the A54 were really good overall. and great work.
Samsung could have made this phone pretty perfect by adding the video stabilization… they didn’t add it because people would just get that over the S23 line…
The yellowness is easy fixable by disabling Scene Optimazion option in the camera settings

O A54 ganha disparada com controle de Nitidez e Cores, esse S23 não é melhor as Câmeras, so em algumas situações foi melhor. A54 superou na maior parte dos testes, principalmente cores e nitidez. Modo Noturno SE 23 é melhor, mas de resto ele perde sim! Qualidade de Nitidez e Oclusão de Ambiente do A54 é muito melhor! S23 grava em 8K a 23 FPS e com Lag e sem estabilização!

The answer is simple: S23 if you have money. A54 if you are poor.

What about the zoom? Seems that this comparison is not unbiased. Zoom of s23 is definitely better.
Also when you show the photos on the screen size, they may look similar or sometimes better on A54, but if you zoom in the photos taken, you clearly notice how much detail is lost in A54.
I am almost certain that you have bought s23..or are using s22 series.
A54 doesn't have zoom. Don't pixel peep then. Both phones have same sensor size.
Your video helped a lot for me to understand the A54 could be perfect as I'm not having any intention of recording crappy, shaky videos in highest resolution... 😂😂
HD or maximum Full HD with optical and ectronical video stabilization is perfect for me (also from storage demand per video and handling it in movie software). And that seems to work perfectly with a smooth video during walking... here is just no need for going to the ultrasharp video format...
Thanks for your test adn maybe a little more attention to HD or Full HD resolution could be more realistic for majority of users.
Today without video stabilization the footage would be unusable. I think for a midrange phone Pixel 6a is the best choice..at least for the camera.

The A54 has more storage capacity that the S23.
If your into you 4k video, that could matter.
S23= 1000gb max, no removable micro sd card storage.
A54= 1512gb max with its removable 1tb micro sd card storage.

Is Bluetooth 5.3 definitely installed on it, or is this one of Samsung's marketing moves? On their official website, the Exynos 1380 processor supports a maximum of Bluetooth 5.2.

It's wrong to compare these 2 devices... I had an a51 and bought a54 yesterday... To me it's a downgrade in camera, the rest seems pretty much the same. It's a big con that we have to keep upgrading... They keep lowering spec to make us feel we need to upgrade.
I think that the smartphones are so good by now that the main differences between a premium and a intermediary smartphone isn't enough to justificate the difference in prices. As shown on the video, those pictures are so similar in good conditions. In low-light conditions, it's true, s23 is waaaay better - but tell me, will you post any low-light conditions photos anyway? Even with all post-processment, it doesn't mean that the photo is good enough to be posted...
What about FHD60fps on A54? Does that have video stabilization function? can u compare with S23 FHD60fps stabilizations?
No video stabilization for 1080P60 on the A54. That's why I didn't bother including a video sample

The night selfies of the A54 are a dealbreaker for me. It looks like a smartphone from 2010.
Most midrange will do that.

I actually preferred the A54 front video camera apart from the stabilization of course....other than that the s23 is the king of android
