I still don't understand why a replacement for the indispensable A-10 is not being considered. The engine (no afterburner) and airframe are relatively low tech and inexpensive. Incorporate engine improvements, composite instead of titanium armor, ability to carry the latest weapons, upgraded avionics and communications, newer electronic countermeasures, the existing cannon and VOILA! Close air support is 'back in business'

Ummm, outside of Panamint Springs, Ca is the "Mach Loop" aka The Jedi Transition through "Star Wars Canyon. I know, I live less than an hour from there. Nothing the Brits have is better than that.

Yes, that F135 has a very distinctive sound. I miss hearing it every day. Though if you put it side-by-side with its little brother, the F-22's F119, you could hardly tell the difference. Makes sense, since they're mostly the same engine.
Don't you know it! Having been a Gunfighter in the '70's at Mountain Home I spent many off duty days out on Saylor Creek Range along the Bruneau Canyon watching the Aardvarks do it in the dirt. Nothing would be finer than watching an F model tear that Star Wars Canyon a new one easy peasy... I doubt any of these aircraft are but a fart in the wind compared to the F-111's low level abilities...

We referred to them as Our "Triple Threat" aircraft... It bombs them, strafes them, and FALLS on them." My field was weapons loading. The F-4 was a dream to work on. The 111 was a nightmare on many levels. Sorry if I stepped on your onions.

The orange striping probably means it's flying with an evaluation and testing squadron, perhaps trying to recertify Eagles to fly with the outer pylons. They created flutter problems in the past so perhaps they got a redesign. Prospective variants of the F-15 family have all been envisioned with deeper magazines than currently used.
The F-15 with orange visualization striping is from the Edward's AFB test and evaluation squadron. I work for Pratt & Whitney military propulsion systems at Edward's AFB, been there 26 years. That F-15 is one of many chase planes used for T&E but NASA also uses them, NASA is across the main runways from our hangar along with DARPA and the DOD. The F-4 is also from Edward's as are a few of the F-35's test aircraft getting their daily dose of G's.

One of the improvements of the F-15SA is replacing its hybrid flight control system with a modern completely fly-by-wire system.
