@@kf91274its a bit more difficult. the spectra EW systems of the rafale is one of the best if not the best EW systems. so it can dodge missiles with ease. it also have a great irst system and powerful aesa radar. if the f-35 is detected, the rafale can lunch the deadly metor. if it comes to a dogfight, the rafale would eat the f-35 alive. the rafale has superior trust to weight ratio, higher turn rate and roll rate...it can handle 11gs without problems
I am an Engineer myself, I know the Dasseault Rafale is a very capable aircraft in engineering design, the French engineers have done a great job in building the Rafale, and many countries around the world have realized despite all the lies the US media has propagated against European made aircrafts, that the Rafale is indeed far above in quality than the F-35
I just wonder what kind of aircraft Dassaut could build if they have financial support like the F-35 program.
We are talking about an aircraft produced by a single country (not like the Eurofighter (3country on it), and I came across Swiss or Swedish (I don't remember) tests that rank it above the EF and Gripen by pilots) versus one produced by the leading military power. I'm still glad that my country can still make such capable (and pretty !) jets despite its size and money.
Interesting comment, and it is a little strange ... because we are comparing two planes which seems to mean that they are comparable ... even if one has been done by a single land with relatively low financial support and the other one, by the largest economy on earth supporting the longest and most expensive military project of the history ...

This debate is totally ridiculous to anyone that knows what actually happened. The F-35 had to disable it's stealth ability by adding projections that are reflective to RADAR in order for this contest to even take place. Otherwise the Rafale could have even detected the F-35. Look it up!!!
F-35 is basically a flying computer that generates tremendous amounts of heat. So it can be detected like that.

The engine itself is producing about 240MW, or about 1000x more power than all of the electronics on board.
So the conclusion I want to ask is, Can dassault win the battle against f-35 which is a Generation 5 stealth aircraft and rafale is a generation 4.5 aircraft. I am still very unfamiliar with this🙏

I feel that the cost of Operating the F35 @42,000 usd/hour is much higher than that of Rafale which is between $18-21k/hour
When was the last time a wining Air Force worried about operating cost?

You also need to consider that U.S. buy aircraft without ¨pièces de rechanges¨. The result is a 20 to 30 percent increase.

The F-35 can fly. It can fly exceptionally well, being about on par with the F-16 in maneuverability. It’s also ran hundreds of combat missions. It works very well, which is why so many countries are trying to buy as many units as they can get.

It is totally believable that the Rafale is more manuerable than the F35. Last time I read, a pilot tester experiencee with the F35 was that is was not as agile or as reponsive as the F16. If the Rafale was built ot be more manuerable than the F16, then it is definitely more manuerable than the F35.

Since then, there have been many exercises such as Red Flag... where fully capable F-35's slaughtered other 4.5 Gen fighter jets with a 20:1 kill ratio.

True, but irrelevant. There have been almost no dogfights in the last 3+ decades. Everything fight is BVR. The US sacrificed it because it was less important. The F35 doesn't even have to point the nose at the other plane to shoot the missile. Dogfights are (supposedly) going the way of battleships. They're in the history books.

The French,are prone to raise the Macron when faced with an enemy. No French aircraft would survive pitted against the F-35.
The guy who made the video did not know that if your jet --- a 4th/4.5th jet --- had an RCS (radar cross section) of around the Superhornet, Typhoon/Eurofighter, etc (normally taken to be between 1 - 10 square meter).... that THAT RCS made your jet being between 2 and 3 ORDERS of magnitude BIGGER than the F-35 (which comes with an RCS of 0.005 sq.m).
The coating, fabrication, and radar absorbing materials used on the Rafale is at least 25 years OLDER than the coating, fabrication, and radar absorbing materials used on the 2023 F-35.
And that is NOT an exaggeration.
Back when the Rafale first flown, the FIRST FOUR CRAY SUPER COMPUTERS were made available to 4 research universities, in the entirety of the USA... As one of the those first 4 sites initially chosen to operate one of those crude, giant super computers, my alma mater had to build a GIANT, MULTI-STOREY BUILDING to help cool it. Its chip sophistication was nowhere near today's high end iPhone computer chips.

The regrettable thing probably is that all conversations about air combat systems concern what places like Skunkworks would consider obsolete technology. We don't even know what current generation systems look like or are capable of.

I did search it up and you're wrong. France and Ukraine have just begun discussion (around September 2023) about training Ukrainian pilots for Rafales. They're not even close to have Rafales taking part in actual combat. @@SuperScarab

The F-16 is highly maneuverable. The F-35 is on about par with the F-16 in terms of maneuverability. By extension, the F-35 is highly maneuverable.

Go to airshows. Read statements from pilots. Look at training and red flag events. The F-35 routinely holds its own in maneuverability dogfights from F-22s, F-15s and F-16s.

Radar signals may be managed by active cancellation (or jamming) but i am more inclined to understand capabilities and range of passive sensors deployed by Rafale and F35.
Active cancellation is French propaganda, it is basically just jamming, which isn't stealth. To be stealthy it would have to exactly cancel out the radar returns from the aircraft. Even with a radar tuned to a signal frequency, such a feat would be difficult. Modern radars frequency hop, making such a technique impossible.
Sure you can jam radar but that gives your position away.

Lots of evaluations have been made around the world. Have a look at which one always wins
SU35 is one of the worst fighterjet , and raphale one of the best if not the best.
The French Rafale aircraft is way far superior and way above in maneuvrability and tactical military endurance than the junk US F-35, any country buying the F-35 would make their airforce very weak strategically and may lose their national integrity against either Russian or Chinese made aircraft, Pierre Sprey the person who designed the F-16 is a great American specialists, and he said the F-35 is a complete Lemon, meaning you end up way too much on faulty maintenance and parts that need to be replaced every day, it's a total nightmare to own the F-35.
Personally think compering the Dassault Rafale to the Eurofighter Typhoon would be better as the F35 has a internal weapons bay.

I feel Rafale is the best fighter than F35, because it is an Omni-Role fighter.. it's sensor suite and countermeasures are beyond comparision, it has an EW system which makes it nearly invisible to any multifunction AESA radars..

Until you see your Indian-special-made Dssault Rafale F3R shoot down by uknown air to air missile from 100 km away by undetected flying object named F-35 JSF Lightning II.
The F-35 is by far the most advanced jet on the planet. If France was able to afford these great electronic warfare systems (they aren’t special), then the F-35 has them. France can’t design as much quality stuff as American jets when they’re producing 15x less jets. That’s just how economies of scale work

Even if India could buy F-35, Rafale is still better for India simply because *India could not leverage F-35's sensor fusion due to India's other jets/systems are mostly non-Western.*
However, for those with fully/mostly Western system (therefore can take full advantage of F-35 sensor fusion and other features), F-35 is definitely the better option.
The f35 will get inside the rafales M.A.R, before it’s detected, especially when it starts carrying aim 260s. Splash Rafales, without them even knowing the 35 was there.

What I think it’s that you have no idea what you’re talking about. You can’t just lock on to an F-35 or any stealth aircraft for that matter no matter how close you are to it. Rafale’s a formidable aircraft but it can’t take down an F-35.
You could achieve it with an IRST at close range. But we're talking like 20km-30km for that to happen. And to even get there, the Rafale would need blind luck or the F-35 giving it enough radar signature to point it in the right direction

@@sethikablip8607 it's an awesome missle but the platform firing it still needs to detect its adversary before it ca be fired. MBDA gained a contract to complete Meteor integration on British F35s in 2021. The stealth aspect of the F35 will give it an advantage over the Rafael in any bvr engagement. 4th gen jets just don't cut it against true 5th gen platforms like the F35 and F22

but i know well that GOI will never allow a American fighter jet as they come with a lot of strings attached.
For India, it would be costly mistake to buy a white elephant like F-35 only to be grounded later (thanks to the strings attached😂). Indian decision makers know this well so they won't jump into such deals hastly.
At a closer range it will depend on the pilots skills as well so I’m going with the F-35.

considering all tests involving f-35 vs rafale have involved the f-35 using radar reflectors so as to be visible to the rafale, i think this one's open and shut.
In nature, a great hunter is only as good as he is stealthy, and that gives them a great advantage when hunting. In that sense, the F-35 is far superior to the Rafale and will give it victory.

The no escape zone for an AIM-120 missile being three times lesser of a Meteor makes an F35 pilot rely on luck against a " blind " Meteor equipped fighter if he ever decides to take the risk of firing a long range attempt. A furious Rafale could carry up to 10 Meteor missiles while I've read an F-35 will soon be able to carry up to 6 AIM-120s without compromising its stealth abilities.
One relies on its cutting edge missiles while the other has to take a leap of faith on stealth along with his opponent's skills in missile jamming and escape manoeuvres, is there really such thing as an easy choice ?
@@SP95 You obviously don't work with radar or electronic warfare systems. So I'll break down how a radar intercept works. First, you need your early warning radar to give you a general area and direction. That's something the Rafale could achieve, but it just narrows the search to thousands of square km to search. Then you need to use actual search-and-track radar to get closer. This is where stealth becomes an advantage because that radar uses high-band frequencies that stealth defeats. So a further targeting-grade lock is unlikely until the F-35 fires first and hase its weapon bays open. The Rafale could also try to use its IRST, but that requires a 20km-30km range from the target.
Meanwhile the F-35 would be able to employ the new AN/APG-85 which better against low-observable aircraft and ECM. It would also further out-range the Rafale's own radar systems. The F-35 has a programmable towed decoyed which it could use to mimic other aircraft. Or it could stay hidden and move well within the Rafale's range without being targetable. The new AIM-260 can be fired and acquire a lock after launch. So the F-35 could fire at the Rafale without giving itself away until the missile gets too close to dodge or counter and then start targeting.
Not only is the Rafale inferior in terms of its airframe, it's also inferior in its avionics. Weapons are similarly capable, but the F-35 has plenty of ability to upgrade those with help from over a dozen partner nations.

Rafale is a 30 years old mature and combat proven aircraft at the highest (for the next 20 years at least) of its habilities. F-35 is a beginner that will take years to fix his problem and get all of his operational capabilities. Today the match is unfair..for the F-35.

@@galactiquechannel2517 The F-35 shot itself due to an issue with the PGU-32U ammunition which has non zero chance of randomly detonating after being fired. The cannon is still perfectly good for the F-35.
And of course it has quite a few bugs, but those bugs have zero impact on it's combat performance. If war were to break out with China or Russia, their jets would be nothing but target practice for the F-35. It also comes with the territory when building the most advanced and effective fighter jet on the planet. Those bugs will continue to be fixed over the coming years until it's much more reliable. Even now with it's bugs, it's still the safest fighter jet to fly by a pretty wide margin
There's no grantee that the f35 would win, a rafale beat a f22 years ago and the f35 is not as maneuverable as an f22, and we know that the US Airforce doesn't like to report when another jet beast the f22 and there's prove of that.

Rafale have SPECTRA, IR, AESA radar, it is able to launch nukes, METEOR air to air have longest range with +200 km, SPECTRA give Rafale stealth capabilities, either F22 or F35 or Chinese and Russian copies are able to match Rafale.

Hundred and hundred of electronical and mechanical issues, some are even dangerous for the pilot; an operational cost per hour more than double the operational cost of the Rafale, and a stealthiness that can be disputed because of it's mono-engine, who is the most powerful engine yes, but it can be easily detected with infrared radars when it supercruise, because it can't supercruise without postcombustion contrary to the Rafale. There many other factors that makes the F-35 an immature airplane

The rafale won all competitions all around the world against every plane including F15 ! In addition to that, the F-35 is (still) not ready to be used during a real war. The last time that I read an article about it Lokheed Martin talked about around 800 major problems ... To conclude, I think that the F35 could be a good plane, but it is not ready to participate to a real war unlike the rafale that did it at many occasions !

Use the Thrust/weight ratio which will determine the acceleration capability: Rafale 0.988 (100% fuel, 4 AAM) F-35 : 0.87 at gross weight. So both have same speed, acceleration and max payload with around 20,000 pounds.
- 5:59 high manoeuvrability on F-35... what a joke! F-35 has been designed to be stealth while Rafale has been designed to be agile... you have to choose.

Finally 11:00 is a good conclusion. Both are good fighters, with design choices made. Similar pyload, similar multi-role, similar NATO capabilities. So which one will win? The one fitted with relevant ordinance and supported by the closest AWACS.

F-35 has been a painstaking investment for EU countries to renew their nuclear striking force. Quite sure that EU will not jump again into a joint funded program to replace F-35 fighter. SCAF design is on design.

I have never heard of any person, TH-cam channel, or aviation analyst asserted, erronously, the Rafale was designed to "be stealthier than the F-35" (starting at 1:10) and then go on to say it (the Rafael) has a RCS of 10 square feet like the Super Hornet, Typhoon, etc.
Either the editing of the video was terrible, lacking in attention to detail, or the person doing it who read the carefully written telepromted words was exceptionally uninformed or stupid. Or he didn't care any thing about any topic he babbled about...
Anyway, if your RCS is around 10 square feet (he probably meant 10 m^2) like the Super Hornet, the Typhoon, etc. --- of the 4th and 4.5th generation fighter jets --- then you are between 2.5 to 3 ORDERS of magnitude bigger than the F-35 on RCS metrics.
This video is riddled with misinformation about both aircraft, it's just another fluff piece for the f-35. the Rafale is a lot better than this video says and the F-35 is good but not as good as the video says, how come the video say nothing about all the problems the f-35 still has? the greatest strength the f-35 has is its stealth. because the f-35 was built for stealth first over performance where the Rafale was built for performance first and stealth second, so there's a lot of things wrong in this video about both aircraft.
And nobody spoke about the pectra system of the rafale (quite everything is classified) but as far as I know it did a very good job for create a stealht buble around the rafale and even the USAF "complain" about it in real exercises

Because, even if the f35 is the longest and most expensive military project of the US history,
1) the f35 still lost dogfights against f16 a few years ago
2) the f35 is not available right now, the are (A LOT OF) problems that make it impossible to use today
3) Even if the f35 was available today (which is not the case) it is not totally sure that it would be much better than the rafale ...Simulations have been done and the victory of the f35 was not always clear (if it was a victory ...)
So, even if the f35 is called a "5th generation plane", it is not just better than rafale, the question is much more complicated.
The only question which have a clear answer is the following : which plane should you choose if you want extremely efficient fighter jet available right now ?
And the answer is the rafale...

2. The F-35 is available in bountiful numbers. 146 units built per year with a thousand already ordered by export customers. It's run hundreds of combat operations by Israel, UK, America with zero issues. Only problems it does have relate to some maintenance and costs, which for the most advanced and powerful fighter jet in the world still in the early days of production, that is to be expected. It ain't easy being the best.
3. What simulations are you talking about? The F-35 has a superior radar, superior IRST, and is actually stealthy. Only advantage the Rafale has is the Meteor missile and lower maintenance cost.
@@ImBigFloppa Lhe last rafale generation (f4) has active antenna radar system that have quite the same performance as the F35 one. The IRST is made by spectra system on the rafale that nobody know exactly his efficency, even if you are lockeed or dassault engi you cant say that. But I agree, the native stealht of the F35 is ten time better but... without add the spectra jamming system so... we cant tell tho. The lower maintenance cost of a rafale is true but french produce less of them and even the meteor is an amazing missile, if you want to target someone, you have to see him, and I'm not sure rafale could see an F35 at the max range of a meteor. The reverse's true ; with the spectra system no one know if a F35 could track a rafale at max range for a AIM120.
As far as I know, the USAF dont want the F35 (at the early) stage being red team for rafale anymore because he loose every direct confrontation at the beginning of the F35 active duty. I think it's the more important information over here.
