It is totally believable that the Rafale is more manuerable than the F35. Last time I read, a pilot tester experiencee with the F35 was that is was not as agile or as reponsive as the F16. If the Rafale was built ot be more manuerable than the F16, then it is definitely more manuerable than the F35.
Seriously ? The same old story that happened around 2016 with a F-35 that had "one of its wings tied behind its back" ? C'mon now... Since then, there have been many exercises such as Red Flag... where fully capable F-35's slaughtered other 4.5 Gen fighter jets with a 20:1 kill ratio.
True, but irrelevant. There have been almost no dogfights in the last 3+ decades. Everything fight is BVR. The US sacrificed it because it was less important. The F35 doesn't even have to point the nose at the other plane to shoot the missile. Dogfights are (supposedly) going the way of battleships. They're in the history books.
@@stuartwiner7920 That's not the subject though. Ever saw Top gun Maverick? Guns only? Dog fight is a weakness for the F35. This is a fact. And I do agree that it is a weakness that doesn't matter. They bought the F35 to have the american protection. And they bought the Rafale to have fighting jets. Just in case the americans don't come to help them.
I am an Engineer myself, I know the Dasseault Rafale is a very capable aircraft in engineering design, the French engineers have done a great job in building the Rafale, and many countries around the world have realized despite all the lies the US media has propagated against European made aircrafts, that the Rafale is indeed far above in quality than the F-35

I just wonder what kind of aircraft Dassaut could build if they have financial support like the F-35 program. We are talking about an aircraft produced by a single country (not like the Eurofighter (3country on it), and I came across Swiss or Swedish (I don't remember) tests that rank it above the EF and Gripen by pilots) versus one produced by the leading military power. I'm still glad that my country can still make such capable (and pretty !) jets despite its size and money.
Interesting comment, and it is a little strange ... because we are comparing two planes which seems to mean that they are comparable ... even if one has been done by a single land with relatively low financial support and the other one, by the largest economy on earth supporting the longest and most expensive military project of the history ... It is not a good point for the US ...
Noob question here: what actually has the F35 done in combat to prove its superiority? I'm in the UK and I've never seen one of our F35s, nor have they apparently been used for anything except test flights, and now there are massive delays on the American side before anyone gets any more. @@potatosuc4950 doesn't need it, and no plane is 100% stealthy, American stealth fighters can all be detected by public radars frequencies (the one used for transport airplanes), but the frequency of those one can't allow to lock on a target
The regrettable thing probably is that all conversations about air combat systems concern what places like Skunkworks would consider obsolete technology. We don't even know what current generation systems look like or are capable of.
The guy who made the video did not know that if your jet --- a 4th/4.5th jet --- had an RCS (radar cross section) of around the Superhornet, Typhoon/Eurofighter, etc (normally taken to be between 1 - 10 square meter).... that THAT RCS made your jet being between 2 and 3 ORDERS of magnitude BIGGER than the F-35 (which comes with an RCS of 0.005 sq.m). The coating, fabrication, and radar absorbing materials used on the Rafale is at least 25 years OLDER than the coating, fabrication, and radar absorbing materials used on the 2023 F-35. And that is NOT an exaggeration. Back when the Rafale first flown, the FIRST FOUR CRAY SUPER COMPUTERS were made available to 4 research universities, in the entirety of the USA... As one of the those first 4 sites initially chosen to operate one of those crude, giant super computers, my alma mater had to build a GIANT, MULTI-STOREY BUILDING to help cool it. Its chip sophistication was nowhere near today's high end iPhone computer chips.

there are a few things about the rafale that needs to be taken into consideration, it's not made to be stealthy the Spectra protection system does not hide the airplane, but instead shatters and twists its print on the radar, which makes it that locking on the rafale is almost impossible, you would be locking on a deformed radar position nearby. Also, the Rafale contains systems able to detect and lock the F35, although it probably works mostly on closer range The rafale is certainly able to compete against the F35, but there is no denial the long range and stealth capacity of the American machine is superior. However, because it relies so much on its stealth technologie, it's likely that the airplane will become outdated as soon as a counter to its technology is found and developed.
stealth seems overrated, passive or long-wave radars are capable of detecting them despite this. Not very precisely, but enough to know where to approach to detect it precisely. Russia don't fly over Ukraine, despite of their stealth jets.

It depends on the situation. The fact that in 2009, a Rafale beat a Raptor in a dogfight and the USAF denied it then the French released video of the training event tells you everything you need to know. If a Raptor couldn't beat a Rafale in a dogfight, what makes you think a Lightning II would? That being said, however, in BVR (Beyond Visual Range), the Rafale most certainly wouldn't even know what hit it. Though, that's up for debate cause the "Optronique Secteur Frontal" IRST may or may not detect the heat from both the F119 or F135 engines.

All that said The F35 is a brilliant Achievement that is still not mature. And The Major thing a Rafale would have, making it suitable for a high low mix with any stealth fleet is load, durability and AVAILABILITY. The Full Mission Readiness of the plane is exceeded only by Gripen aided by the platform does not get as hot and it does not need repainted if it flies too fast for too long. The readiness rate is key.
Great comparison format, thanks. Data on price tag and total cost of ownership would be good 😉. Rather than competing with each other, I would be interested in hearing about tactical complementarity and synergies, of these two great systems.
I have never heard of any person, TH-cam channel, or aviation analyst asserted, erronously, the Rafale was designed to "be stealthier than the F-35" (starting at 1:10) and then go on to say it (the Rafael) has a RCS of 10 square feet like the Super Hornet, Typhoon, etc. Either the editing of the video was terrible, lacking in attention to detail, or the person doing it who read the carefully written telepromted words was exceptionally uninformed or stupid. Or he didn't care any thing about any topic he babbled about... Anyway, if your RCS is around 10 square feet (he probably meant 10 m^2) like the Super Hornet, the Typhoon, etc. --- of the 4th and 4.5th generation fighter jets --- then you are between 2.5 to 3 ORDERS of magnitude bigger than the F-35 on RCS metrics.
This video is riddled with misinformation about both aircraft, it's just another fluff piece for the f-35. the Rafale is a lot better than this video says and the F-35 is good but not as good as the video says, how come the video say nothing about all the problems the f-35 still has? the greatest strength the f-35 has is its stealth. because the f-35 was built for stealth first over performance where the Rafale was built for performance first and stealth second, so there's a lot of things wrong in this video about both aircraft.
And nobody spoke about the pectra system of the rafale (quite everything is classified) but as far as I know it did a very good job for create a stealht buble around the rafale and even the USAF "complain" about it in real exercises

Radar signals may be managed by active cancellation (or jamming) but i am more inclined to understand capabilities and range of passive sensors deployed by Rafale and F35.
Active cancellation is French propaganda, it is basically just jamming, which isn't stealth. To be stealthy it would have to exactly cancel out the radar returns from the aircraft. Even with a radar tuned to a signal frequency, such a feat would be difficult. Modern radars frequency hop, making such a technique impossible. Sure you can jam radar but that gives your position away.

The F-35 is by far the most advanced jet on the planet. If France was able to afford these great electronic warfare systems (they aren’t special), then the F-35 has them. France can’t design as much quality stuff as American jets when they’re producing 15x less jets. That’s just how economies of scale work
Even if India could buy F-35, Rafale is still better for India simply because *India could not leverage F-35's sensor fusion due to India's other jets/systems are mostly non-Western.* However, for those with fully/mostly Western system (therefore can take full advantage of F-35 sensor fusion and other features), F-35 is definitely the better option.
The f35 will get inside the rafales M.A.R, before it’s detected, especially when it starts carrying aim 260s. Splash Rafales, without them even knowing the 35 was there.

You could achieve it with an IRST at close range. But we're talking like 20km-30km for that to happen. And to even get there, the Rafale would need blind luck or the F-35 giving it enough radar signature to point it in the right direction

Dassault part away from this program. - 1:45 F35 can be a nuclear attack vector... so does the rafale with ASMPA-R missile (300 ktons @ 350 mi.)... btw both are multi-role fighters. - 2:04 Funny to illustrate stealth capabilities with fully loaded wings... zero. With exposed ordinance it does not work as weapons do have a radar signature.. - 3:40 Try to compare armament on NATO jets is like try to figure out who is the cutest between you and your mirror image. interoperability is key and weapons are similar. - 5:37 useless comparision between engine thrust. Rafale is dual engines versus F-35 single engine. Use the Thrust/weight ratio which will determine the acceleration capability: Rafale 0.988 (100% fuel, 4 AAM) F-35 : 0.87 at gross weight. So both have same speed, acceleration and max payload with around 20,000 pounds. - 5:59 high manoeuvrability on F-35... what a joke! F-35 has been designed to be stealth while Rafale has been designed to be agile... you have to choose. - 7:59 F-35 has a cool AESA (active electronically scanned array) radar. F-35 uses a Northrop Grumman AESA radar, Rafale use a Thales AESA radar. guess what ? Both are AESA. - 8:16... wow Link 16 allows to communicate data between aircrafts. Like any NATO fighter. I know it is mindblowing, but a Rafale can exchange data with a F-35 and a E-2C Hawkeye. Finally 11:00 is a good conclusion. Both are good fighters, with design choices made. Similar pyload, similar multi-role, similar NATO capabilities. So which one will win? The one fitted with relevant ordinance and supported by the closest AWACS. in tetm of speed , F35 will loose stealth capability if hit supersonic speed, it will disturb stealth coating so thats why since earliest US made F35's main mission are air to ground and air to sea mission
What happened in Israel when its military airport was attacked by Iranian missiles? Is it true that the attack caused several f35s to be ruined? If this is true, even though it has stealth status, this aircraft has weaknesses. What I want to say, the F35 and Dassault Rafale have their respective advantages, it's true and I agree with what the creator of this information said, if they face each other it's not always the F35 that wins but it depends on the mission being carried out. These two war machines are simply amazing. The Dassault Rafale's avianoc and radar systems are not as sophisticated as the F35 but are superior in flying ability and agility. Apart from that, they are in different classes except that the Dassault Rafale has improved aviaonics and radar capabilities on par to the F35. Rafale is a 30 years old mature and combat proven aircraft at the highest (for the next 20 years at least) of its habilities. F-35 is a beginner that will take years to fix his problem and get all of his operational capabilities. Today the match is unfair..for the F-35.

If war were to break out with China or Russia, their jets would be nothing but target practice for the F-35. the Spectra protection system does not hide the airplane, but instead shatters and twists its print on the radar, which makes it that locking on the rafale is almost impossible, you would be locking on a deformed radar position nearby. Also, the Rafale contains systems able to detect and lock the F35, although it probably works mostly on closer range
The rafale is certainly able to compete against the F35, but there is no denial the long range and stealth capacity of the American machine is superior. However, because it relies so much on its stealth technologie, it's likely that the airplane will become outdated as soon as a counter to its technology is found and developed.

We all.know who wins .tip : it starts with à R
Rafale F4 is 4.5 Gen
5
@@neutralprofit7699 nah F4 is 4.5, I'd say 4.7 even
but the F5, who knows
@@raskzak3313 Tbh gen 5 five is kind of american propaganda
@neutralprofit7699 yes and no, it's just a classification after all. And it makes everyone go nuts because it's a higher number, but it doesn't actually means much, it just means that it reaches specifics to be able to be considered a 5th gen
And we're going multiple 5th gen fighters to find the right formula
The first ever jet powered airplanes were worse than prop planes after all
@@raskzak3313 I get your point but... tbh, besides stealth there's nothing much, the rafale has to be jealous of about gen 5.
I mean the f35 is neat, but even today it still has a lot of issues, like the painting melting, non supercruise stealth, software bugs, cost per hour, terrible maintenance... And yet USA still find ways to convince other countries to buy it. Some politicians and militaries even think about stoping its production and renovate gen 4 jets.
The F-22 is the best in its domain wich is killing every flying thing in the area, but gosh its expensive and it's not multirole.
And the su57 is still in development, wich is getting more and more delayed because of the conflict in ukraine but somehow they still manage to talk about some new project like the su75.
And this idea of talking big about shitty products is litteraly the definition of marketing, and at the level of a country, its called *propaganda*
RAF vs typhoon
Fails-35 is a piece if junk...
One would be falling from the sky before it detected the presence of the other
Le F35 l'avion tellement furtif que personne l'a jamais vu voler !
@@HK_SFP9LIran didn’t see it when Israel flew F-35s into Iran. Iranian and Russian air defense systems didn’t detect them while Israel mapped out future target.
It doesn't work like that with the meteor missile now
@@sethikablip8607 it's an awesome missle but the platform firing it still needs to detect its adversary before it ca be fired. MBDA gained a contract to complete Meteor integration on British F35s in 2021. The stealth aspect of the F35 will give it an advantage over the Rafael in any bvr engagement. 4th gen jets just don't cut it against true 5th gen platforms like the F35 and F22
@@ricardosmythe2548 well it would depend on what range does the Rafale manages to detect a f-35
I admit both a great and necessary aircraft. America needs to work more with our NATO allies on the data links necessary for joint operations. As the world's nation's fight over dwindling resources, teamwork is necessary as WWIII heats up.
F-35 & Rafale are completely different type of Fighter ! 😂
But they are competitors when country buying a new fighter tho
What I think it’s that you have no idea what you’re talking about. You can’t just lock on to an F-35 or any stealth aircraft for that matter no matter how close you are to it. Rafale’s a formidable aircraft but it can’t take down an F-35.
You could achieve it with an IRST at close range. But we're talking like 20km-30km for that to happen. And to even get there, the Rafale would need blind luck or the F-35 giving it enough radar signature to point it in the right direction
C'est très mal connaître les capacités du Rafale mais c'est pas plus mal.
This is the equivalent to making a video about Subway vs Jersey Mikes.. We all know the right answer
subway
of course, the Rafale win, no discussion, F35 is for Hollywood, rafale is a proven combat aircraft for war
Avec budget américain la France serait sur Jupiter. La Chine a dépassé les états Unis
😂
I agree 😂.
Who wins in a fight? A world champion knife fighter who won every fair fight? Or a trained sniper able to attack from miles away undetected?
Doesn't matter how superior the Rafale is to the F35. Stealth is a game changer.
Man vs horse.
Horse vs car
Car vs plane
Plane vs missile
Rafale vs F35
Once the Rafale has true stealth capability it can be compared to the F35
For the moment f35 is not fiable mostly of the time grounded
Rafale shotdown an f22
F-35 definitely beats rafale in any BVR engagement.
Non lol
Yes F 35 might have some initial advantage but with F4 variant of Rafale, it will be a tough fight. I know people here is a bit biased towards Rafale. Me too but F 35 will have initial advantage over Rafale.
less than 20 seconds for the first blunder:
- 00:20 Rafale is not designed for the European Union. the EU consortium fighter is known as eurofighter typhoon (UK/Germany/Italy/Spain).
Don't forgrt to add the airplane cost & flight hour cost which are far from been equal.
F-35 has been a painstaking investment for EU countries to renew their nuclear striking force. Quite sure that EU will not jump again into a joint funded program to replace F-35 fighter. SCAF design is on design.
Oh yeah, and look at how many people have bought the F35.And it's also hashort landing or short.Take off vertical landing so they can operate on a much smaller Carrier. That's why the marine salmon
Sometimes wrong with my speech recognition. It's just all messed up so I'm gonna have to read this week before. I posted the F35 wicked. How many people have bought it? It also has a short take off. And vertical landing capability capability, so the Marines can use it on a much smaller aircraft Carrier. And I think just hands down and once again. I gotta say the F35 has a return radar. Return with about a golf ball and the Raphael. Noh, no, how's a 10 square 10 × 10 square feet? That's huge the f thirty five would be launching on the roof balls before they even knew they were there
f-35 is overrated
I feel like this video is quite conveniently released like
1. USA sent F35 to AERO INDIA 2023
2. USA sold TP77 radar to Pakistan
isn't this some kind of cornering India to buy F35?
some time ago IAF chief said 5th gen aircrafts for 114 MRCA
but i know well that GOI will never allow a American fighter jet as they come with a lot of strings attached.
For India, it would be costly mistake to buy a white elephant like F-35 only to be grounded later (thanks to the strings attached😂). Indian decision makers know this well so they won't jump into such deals hastly.
I voted for Rafael
Rafale have radar crossection of 0.1m2 that is more less then F18 and eurofighter
in tetm of speed , F35 will loose stealth capability if hit supersonic speed, it will disturb stealth coating
so thats why since earliest US made F35's main mission are air to ground and air to sea mission
The answer is, as always, the one with the sharpest pilot.Always today, I'd say.
Whom sees first Wins. Enough said.
so the f35 wins every time
rafale reykonno-sense is very good because of gooder radar
What has been proven in the United Arab Emirates is that the Dassault Rafale and Mirage 2000 have beaten the F22 in a dog fight simulation.
Rafale is a 30 years old mature and combat proven aircraft at the highest (for the next 20 years at least) of its habilities. F-35 is a beginner that will take years to fix his problem and get all of his operational capabilities. Today the match is unfair..for the F-35.
Lmao nope.
The F-35 has been in operation for 8 years. Why do you Rafale fanboys act like it barely even flies?
@@ImBigFloppa Because it shot himself, it had alot of Major problems and when they discovered the gun wasn't good for the aircraft, they just said "ok just dont use the gun too much" without fixing it. I agree the f35 is one of the best aircrafts but still has ALOT of bugs and pbs
@@RLRGC The F-35 shot itself due to an issue with the PGU-32U ammunition which has non zero chance of randomly detonating after being fired. The cannon is still perfectly good for the F-35.
And of course it has quite a few bugs, but those bugs have zero impact on it's combat performance. If war were to break out with China or Russia, their jets would be nothing but target practice for the F-35. It also comes with the territory when building the most advanced and effective fighter jet on the planet. Those bugs will continue to be fixed over the coming years until it's much more reliable. Even now with it's bugs, it's still the safest fighter jet to fly by a pretty wide margin
There's no grantee that the f35 would win, a rafale beat a f22 years ago and the f35 is not as maneuverable as an f22, and we know that the US Airforce doesn't like to report when another jet beast the f22 and there's prove of that.
The plane that have a french pilot onboard!
