This is a perfect example of a singer who has obviously taken great care of her instrument. She sounds almost exactly the same as she did 22 years ago.....just a little bit of a deepness and weight that one would naturally gain throughout the years. She is doing it here in the original key, and still sounds so perfect it's unbelievable. I had to opportunity to see her cabaret show at 54 Below a few years back, and her voice was as magical as ever.
@@Ihdc1 I think that was some phlegm rattling around because she was pressing just a little too hard on the high note - a crack would have been more noticeable.

@@johnpaulonato3569 I also love Lea, but they are two completely different performers, and Lea has indeed won a Tony while Judy, who created some truly remarkable Broadway roles hasn't, which imo is a crime
Almost 60 years old and still has the most beautiful, most effortless vibrato and resonance I have ever heard. Seriously one of the greats. All my love and respect to one of the best voices of our time.
Judy Kuhn is my spirit animal. She once accidentally hugged me after a performance of Fun Home and when we both realized she hugged even deeper. She is the voice.
@@normandodelossantos3259 Yes and Lea's version is my absolute favorite version. For all those who love Judy's version, I'm not saying Lea's is better. I think at a point it comes down to personal taste.
@@normandodelossantos3259 yeah and it’s my favorite version. I am not saying better than other versions, just my favorite. This is to make the Judy & Venessa Williams fans calm down. I also love Regine Velasquez’s version a lot.
Every time Judy sings a song, she *feels* it. She considers the emotion in every phrase. Her humanity balances the obvious technical precision that she also harnesses. A master of her craft.
The words of this song...this is sucha important message for today. Too bad Disney don't have balls it had in 90's cause there's no chance they would do new Pocahontas like they refreshing all other movies.
it's not about balls lmao it's the fact that the movie is historically inaccurate and extremely disrespectful to the memory of the real pocahontas. one of disney's most embarrassing flops.
She has the same "eternal voice" syndrome as most women who voice Disney princesses (Paige O'Hara sadly excluded). She sounds more mature, but the essential qualities that she possessed 30 years ago are still present today. What an absolute gem - God love her.
Why am I crying? It's beautiful, she sang with her heart, I got goosepumps whatching her face expressing every single verse, her eyes are magical. I love when people dive into things with love. I'm gonna with sleep a smile on my face.
I need to say this. You are one part of my childhood. You changed my life. Encourage me to learn English. I watched Pocahontas when I was 6. The song is too pure than my understandings that day. Now I got it and feel content every time I think about life. THANK YOU!
Recently watching THAT Disney film. I've been going down the rabbit hole of finding other singers of this song, all the others (Including Vanessa Williams who I adore) over sell it. But Judy's original version moves me beyond belief. There is a deepness in her voice, it's almost as if the pain and anger is real. She is so amazing.
I love Judy’s original take because I get a sense of she’s unhappy with John because of how he thinks but instead of telling him to go away she takes time to try her best to teach him
2:10...awesome. After having to suffer through Mariah Careys vocal decline in her later years, I was already cringing to see whether or not Judy Kuhn would still be able to belt out those high notes and Im so relieved she did. The annoying staccato piano accompaniment aside, I can easily imagine a more seasoned Pocahontas singing this song to a group of children, teaching them not to take nature for granted. This song is totally Judys. Not even Lea Salonga can match her performance, and she tried.
I WAS THINKING THIS EXACT THOUGHT. Watching Mariah's nodules slowly consume her lustrous belting range to where she basically lost a half octave, this was like a reminder of what dedication to your instrument will get you.
Tell me about it. Im literally listening to it once everyday, to tease my partner in his car and he didn’t know she was an elderly woman already. Now he’s gobsmacking. Inlove. ❤
Blinking away the tears. I have always and will always love this song and her voice. Thank you Alan Menken and Judy Kuhn for creating something so perfect.
Judy Kuhn is a FANTASTIC singer! She is an interpreter of lyrics. Close your eyes and listen to her bring out all the emotions of the song. AMAZING TALENT!
Even after all these years, you can still see the emotion & passion in her eyes, & hear it in her voice as well. I will always love this song, & Judy Kuhn for doing an amazing job conveying these beautiful lyrics 🖤
OMG!!! that made me cry.... I'm 37 this year and that performance brought me back to when I was young. All these memories that came flooding in. Overwhelming. Wonderful performance.
This is just such a strong song! Just hits you right to your core. Conserve and preserve, appreciate life, appreciate and care for all things in this Earth, for what Mother Nature has made is more beautiful than anything man will ever make in any lifetime.
Watching her sing this just made this song 10 times more moving. I'm not a fan of the movie, but this song is so interesting and beautiful. She really gives it so much life and meaning 💚
Age, time, and experience made her singing of this song mature like the wine or fine cheese when tempered by the harvests. A divestment of self. Beauty through pain.
What a beautiful singer and song that gives a powerful message about equality and about getting to know people before making a preconception about them!!! And about taking care of our home 🌍
beautiful art peace She sings it the best She feels the emotions and that’s contagious It’s pure and innocent I wish I could have the gift she has ( btw it’s 2019 here and I’m still listening to this )

imagine a 60 years old Pocahontas sing this song to her grand children as she reminisce her younger days and her adventure.
