Kirk and Phil Anselmo both speak in Drop B
🤘🏻🤣
Very clever...
*b standard
👏👏😄 Brilliant. I'm stealing this line btw.
With a kiss of gravel...
Dude's so metal he's got an effects pedal on his voice
Stupid..
Dude, I laughed so hard. Thank you!
Holy shit 😂😂😂
He has the steve-o pedal
Effects in metal?? You're doing it wrong.
4:35 Coughs to clear his throat*VOICE REMAINS ABSOLUTELLY THE SAME*
😂 haha Gotta love Kirk
Άστα αυτά
XD XD XD
you can tell how much he loves his craft just by the fact that the guy asking 1 question got us nearly 10 minutes of pure insight wholesome
Yeah, I agree. He is in love with music. A true musician.
Kirk looks like the interviewer's dad
I think he is lol
*Godfather 😂🙌
Kirk is the sludge metal Santa Claus! Bringing all the good people some of the tastiest riffs this side of the North Pole!
NAILED IT!
You mean the side of the Bayou
Ol St. Riff
Polar opposites , But I agree
Can we do a Part 2 with Kirk doing his favorite Down riffs? Because, Crowbar and Down.
Yes! This!!!!
Yes! THIS!!!!
There's some old videos of Kirk and Pepper doing Down riffs. Pretty killer!
Hell yea. Those two complimented each other so well
Dont forget kingdom of sorrow
Kirk with glasses on looks like Dumbledore.
Now I'm imagining metal version of HP...
Hagrid: "Harry, you're an electric wizard... "
Sorting hat:"RIFFINDOR!"
etc.
Lol
This comment needs all the likes 💪💪
Hufflepuff would change to huffnpuff. Ravenclaw and slytherin are already pretty metal
I love Electric Wizard 🖤 Return trip is my theme song lol
Harry: im looking for a stone magnet.
0:00:47 Planets Collide
0:01:55 Walk with Knowledge Wisely
0:03:28 To Carry the Load
0:05:32 Conquering
0:07:41 To Build a Mountain
0:08:50 Hollow Dying Man
TYSM
Thanks a bunch. 😊
Cheers for the reference. I don't know those last three songs as I only own two physical crowbar albums, time heals nothing and odd fellows rest, which is pure gold from intro to the end of that iron maiden cover (best cover of it too)
Being poor I tend to stream music these days rather than buy, but I'll check those out.
@@chrisproost7290 you're in for a treat. I'm a bit jealous to be honest. Kirk is awesome.
Dimebag and this man right here completely changed the way I look at heavy music and riff writing. Kirk is a beast! When Crowbar self titled dropped, it changed my world! Hail the Riff Lord!🤘🏽⚜️
Criminally underrated guitarist! Not in terms of his technical ability but his creativity!
The riff lord.
Riff meister
Him and Dino Cazares are ridiculously underrated imo.
Bill Kelliher, Jerry Cantrell and Kirk Windstein are my all time riff writers ever. Kirk deserves more recognition!
@@jakeybball And Matt Pike.
Finally some actual metal on Loudwire
I got unreasonably angry when I saw an interview with Theory of a Deadman, yet underground bands in need of exposure get jackshit
Great video! Kirk is one of the nicest, down-to-earth guys I have ever met. His riffs frequently damage the soul. :)
ye
Kirk is such an underrated guitar player. I love his playing in Crowbar and Down.
Agreed. Just like my buddy Pete Steele was an extremely underrated left - handed right handed bassist . Only musicians can see the unnoticed intricacies with each of them
There's a variety of strong emotions in crowbars music!
I know what you mean especially songs like , existence is punishment, holding nothing, December's spawn, can't turn away from dying just to name a few so much emotion in the music and Kirk's playing.
Odd Fellows Rest. Smashed my face in then and still does now. Awesome album, awesome band, awesome Kirk.
Fuck yeah! In my opinion, their best album. The work of a genius.
Masterpiece
That’s crazy to hear he was hesitant to show _Planets Collide_to his Bandmates I’ve always adored that song
He's like that cool Uncle that gives you your first joint
He's the guy your cool uncle looks up to, and probably gave your cool uncle his first joint.
Everlasting dose is so deep almost 20 years later and this riff still gives me chills
The fact he writes all of these riffs without any theory knowledge at all is pretty crazy. He says he doesn’t even know what a third or fifth is. All of these songs just come to him.
Has he been buried in smoke?
Love the reference!
Bury me in SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im dead lmao
now you can bury me in smoke too : ))
Only his voice box
😂😂😂@@erickh82082
Empty room, echo an eternity and embracing emptiness are some of their most badass songs!
Man, I would love to see Kirk on a „Coffee with Ola“. Maybe combined with a „Will it chug“-Part. 🤘
Dude... That would be so good! Ola is a crack up and that would make an amazing episode!
He has a nice green tattoo on his left hand
Type O Negative
Type O negative for life!
Another good doom metal band.
Yes I saw that hell yeah Type O very underrated and under appreciated
I also see other band logos on him. What looks like Trouble on one knee and St. Vitus on the other. Did anyone notice what looks like the razor blade from Priest's British Steel album cover on the back of his neck?
Hail the leaf!!! The Godfather of Stoner Sludge Metal!!! 🐸🤓😁👍✌️🤘
Thank you Kirk, for every Crowbar release not to be a letdown... I'm amazed by the greatness of this band over and over again for all these years now and i hope it will stay that way until they lay me to rest!
That little beard shake from Kirk at 0:09 gives me life!
It is the Man equivalent of a Dog tail wag 😂
The NOLA accent is so uncanny, makes everything Kirk says sound so much coolah.
3:27
His real voice breaks through for one second. Must be a hard job to do...
lol
I wanna go eat burgers and play guitar with Kirk. After went bass fishing in the morning in the bayou. Man this guy is awesome.
Got to meet Kirk at a couple of different shows, super nice guy and loves the fans. I've been jamming Crowbar since the 90's.
@Vince Williamsthe emotion is what actualy makes it feel so heavy, none heavier than the almighty crowbar!
Is that a green Type O tattoo on his hand?
Hell yes!
Kirk is a huge Pete Steele(RIP) fan, of both Type O- and especially Carnivore.
My favorite song by them..Embracing Emptiness. Awesome to see Kirk again.
Iamnota Mushroom I just looked on Spotify to listen to this song and realized that the self titled album and Time Heals Nothing are both nowhere to be found. WHAT THE FUCK!!!
@@jakeybball Spotify is useless to me. I have every Crowbar album and many other albums, obscure or not obscure which often aren't even on spotify. I'm thankful I have all my albums on my PC whenever I need them.
@4:38 "DON'T KILL IT BEFORE IT GROWWWS!!" Yeaaah! Tune low, play slow.
Kirk is so crucial! He has no idea how important his guitar playing is. Absolutley the king of heavy!
I agree with this...he is a total pioneer and i really dont think he even realises lol
Crowbar has so many killer riffs. I guess my favorite is the intro song on the "Odd Fellows Rest" albums. It's also the outro riff on On Frozen Ground off the same record. That riff is soooo heavy!!
Who are the 49 whackos who gave this video a thumbs down?
This is awesome.
I don't know but we should hunt them down and break their f****** thumbs.
Nickleback fans
They deserve to be BURIED IN SMOKE
Finally!!!! Riff Lord
He actually played riffs unlike so many other guests.
None Heavier
Hulk's Blood!!!
Killa dude, riffs and more riffs and more n more n more, killa riffs
He sounds like a Transformer.
"I am Kirk Winfstein, protector of Crowbaratron."
He's been known to transform into the Hulk a few times.. lol The key to his voice is breathing fluorescent light dust. th-cam.com/video/hCO-WiJdibw/w-d-xo.html
these riffs make me want to lift heavy weights! awesome chording
They only thing better than Kirk's riffs are his lyrics! Pure poetry.
Papa smurf by the looks, and his voice too :D
When can we get more kingdom of sorrow!
He looks like old John Petrucci :-) I love this guy he's a very solid guitar player
man I always thought he looked like Petruccis Stoner brother xD
This is such an accurate comment.
But they are nearly the same age actually .
@@MrSprandik I didn't know that, thanks. I think John dyes his hair and beard then... It doesn't matter 'though, I like'em both, great players with their own different unique styles..
ive heard voices like this every time ive been to new orleans. something in the water down there.
Yea, it's called booze.
Dat Type O Negative Tat tho!
Seen that to. Had to show my wife, she said thats gonna me in 20 years. Im only 32. At least I don't have the voice 🤘
Whenever I was out in New Orleans, occasionally I'd run into Kirk.
He'd always say "What's up Peter Steele!?!"
He nicknamed me Peter Steele because I am 6'7" and had jet black hair down to my ribcage at the time.
Kirk is a genuine character and a really nice guy.
@@HocusPocusFocus69 That must have been so exciting for you
Fuck yes! Awesome to see Kirk here!
I liked this comment just because of your name. 🤟🏻
I love Crowbar!
Considering Tom Araya shaved his beard I nominate Kirk as our current Satan Claus
Will That Never Dies and My Agony are his best riffs as far as opening riffs.
Crowbar continues on because of the loyal fan base. And the time period they came out. If they came out today they wouldn't sell 500 tickets. And I like them. I'm not hating. It's just facts
It's obvious you don't know what a fact is.
that’s true
@@Hell_Inc very true!
@@blackholerainbow3029 oh I know a fact.. They emerged during a time period where the world needed metal/ sludge music.... The phase has come and gone. We who grew up in that era will always be fans... but if it wasn't for us they would be in trouble
I love crowbar great band
This cool man. I was outside the bus when this was goin on. Watched um walk out. Got on the rail and kirk gave me one his pics. COC was badass too. Great night
His Riff-ness, INDEED! All Bow DOWN, to the Riff Lord! |m| What a legend, man. Completely honest, laid back and chill. Kirk's the man.
(Numb sensitive) is one of the heaviest crowbar riffs for me.
In my opinion, he's like Iommi when it comes to the riff, love lead but if you don't have a good riff,it just doesn't add up.
His guitar sounds like he is playing through the fart box
I was thinking it sounded like he was playing through a pevy rage.
As someone who is learning to play guitar and bass mainly with Crowbar and Type O Negative songs, this is one of the best videos ever. My head burns while I'm trying to learn that 'Melvins-type' part in "To carry the load"
I love how raw this all sounds, simple yet so effective.
Planets Collide is a masterpiece! So much emotion in that song and one of the greatest riffs in metal.
Man i love to carry the load. One of the heaviest riffs i've heard.
Combined weight of Kirk + his guitar + his riffs = 3984 tons.
With specs Kirk looks like a heavy metal librarian.
Excellent comment!
Woow that Type O Negative sound on the guitar
I NEVER knew this is how kirk sounded. Hes worse than Phil lol
I've seen Crowbar six times. I actually met my tattoo artist who is now a good friend of mine through Kirk.
Dude I’m high as balls and your comment gave me the best laugh I’ve had in a long time lmao ty
His voice is blown out...
Not on stage. Saw Crowbar and CoC a couple months ago and he still sounds great as ever
He's always sounded like that when he speaks
To build a mountain takes a long long time......
Kirk Windstein is a great guy. I met him in the early ‘90s while working out at a local gym. Great, genuine guy.👍🤘💪🏋️♀️
The beard is really killer!
I want some slip on check Vans and a Type O tattoo now...
Sounds like Kennys slow deep and hard sound on the amp...sounds great.
I remember when they played at the Cell block in Shreveport.
Walk with Knowledge Wisely. Totally sick song from top to bottom
To carry the load is absolutely amazing.the outro riff when Kirk sings the last "don't kill it before it grows" is insane.i would go mental in the pit and I'm going on 43.
Met Kirk twice, humble great dude....he pointed out we have the same Saint Vitus tat lol great time! Kirk is next in line after Iommi with greatest metal riffs!!
Losing All easily one of my fav riffs ever of all time.
Or was that Pepper?
I think it's Kirk's
4:40 total Black Sabbath influence
Conquering got me into crowbar! Now one of my top bands of all time
Great video, I learned a lot from this short video, it's always great to hear musicians you love talk about how they come about their riffs, it really helps musicians like myself get into a similar mindset.
"Thats the one i had in my head in the grocery store" Kirk is the man lol wouldn't have a black Ltd viper without him.
Simple, straightforward riffs...That’s why he’s the RiffMaster, The Beard of Doom!
The froggy voice you develop after decades of singing sludge metal.
To Carry the Load, love it.
This perfectly highlights how immidiately recognizable a Crowbar riff is.
I wish "Kirk & Crowbar could watch & hear" .. they're own shows, from the floor!!!
It's well known he's a huge fan (check the tattoo on his left hand!) ,but hearing them isolated, there's a big Type 0 Negative influence in those riffs.
I always kinda saw Crowbar as Type O without keyboards...of course there's some difference but the general vibe is there. A really cool band that I've heard that actually kinda melds the two styles together is called Dirge. I think they have broken up now but they are fuckin killer, and also Tara Vanflower sang on 2 of their tracks, the same chick who did Halloween in Heaven on Type Os Dead again. Certainly worth a listen.
Trouble and St. Vitus tattoos on his knees, classic influences.
I always knew this band had taken inspiration from DOOM metal more specific saint V and type o negative
Check my new fretboard invention🎸🤘🏽 adds extra x note to pulloffs and new bends
To Carry the Load is so badass
Could somebody write down the song titles for me? I didn't get a lot of it
I'm from Louisiana so sometimes I imagine that Kirk's my neighbor. We get along great, but he let's his lawn get a lil long. I'm like "dude, your lawn's gettin' a lil shaggy" and he's like, "yeah the guy was off this week, but it'll be alright". Then I'm like "Cool man, it's just like I gotta hear it from the old lady" . Another week goes by and this bitch I'm married to, and Kirk don't get along. It's about the grass, but not really, you know? I mean we used to get along and have small neighborhood crawfish boils and what not. But now I'm divorced, My mom is in East Jeff Medical with the cancer, thank god for Dr. Delacroix, she beat the cancer. But F*ckin Kirk won't keep up his yard. Just keeps sayin "the guy's comin."
Planets Collide is my fav riff of all time. You can feel the power from it when it plays
The Lasting Dose!!!!
My throat feels sore after watching the video
1:42 dude coughs to clear his throat and then sounds absolutely the same haha
Mr windestien looks like my grandpa
A friend of mine showed me that to build a mountain song and I thought it fits so well playing armored Core 6 fighting Balteus I listen to it on repeat for the entire fight which I admit took me about a hundred tries. So about 5 hours.
