In any of the times I’ve been around Kirk in both professional and social settings over the last 20 years he has been nothing but a friendly dude and a kind soul. Much respect to him for pushing through the times, line up changes and other pressures of being a touring musician. Class act.
Agreed. Super tight rhythm playing and he writes killer riffs! People too often look down on guitar players who aren't playing the most technical stuff possible.
I’d rather have somebody who can make really good heavy riffs then somebody who shreds a million miles an hour. It’s why I love dimebag because he found the in between
Kirk is the biggest sweetheart of them all. I remember watching crowbar in 2014 and he threw dozens of custom guitar picks to everyone in the first row lol
Met him in 2016 at the Rev Room in Little Rock Arkansas. Told him I was a huge fan. He said thanks man and shook my hand. He was so nice. He was just walking around the crowd, watching the opening bands play. I've been privileged to see Crowbar twice and it's always a good show. If I hadn't have been so nervous and being such a fanboy I would have remembered to ask him for a pic with me. Really enjoyed this episode.
It's encouraging to hear that even a metal great like Mr. Windstein sounds like me playing riffs off the top of my head on a practice amp. 😉 Nothing but respect from me, been a Crowbar and Down fan for many years. Together with Type 0 and Paradise Lost the biggest influence on my style of playing. I already knew he is a UFO fan, one of my all time favourites as well.
Love Kirk! Great guy and very emotional, deep, soulful riffing. He captures the soul and pulls at the heart strings. Then he punched you in the face. Legend in my book.
@@codyparrish6674 if you consider getting accepted into a top notch music school, being a music teacher for a federal government program and more untalented then I'm guilty. What have you done?
I got to meet Kirk when my band supported Crowbar a few years back. Great guy, no pretensions about him at all. Plus he bought one of our t-shirts. Bribery will get you everywhere. 😁
I dont understand why you never hear him in any interviews ever pay homage to the Crowbar, Crowbar album? Easily one of the best metal albums ever. Not a single bad track from start to finish.
@The Ninth Heart by most metal fans. Record sales for them should be through the roof. They are my favorite band and it irritates me how many metal people hardly know them.
You are a strange person. I told you they are my favorite band, so obviously I'm not underrating them. However, Sepultura gets billing over them. That's based on album and merch sales. Now I love Sepultura, but in my view Crowbar should be on at least equal footing. Yet, they aren't. Hence, my view that others underrate them. It's not rocket science buddy.
Agreed on him looking and sounding like a wizard. It's great to hear him talk as well as show his influences and also play some of his own riffs while he goes on about what it was like growing up & playing guitar in the 70's.I being younger did not start playing until 1988 but I was into KISS,DEEP PURPLE and BLACK SABBATH long before I started playing guitar so I can really relate to what he was influenced by.Awesome video, thanks Loudwire!!!!!
Met Kirk and Pepper after Down show in Kansas City back in like 2007. Kirk was wasted and I could barely make it his signature on the set list he signed for me. Awesome show
Crowbar is criminally underrated. They’re 100% in my top 5 favorite bands. Every now and then they’ll even be #1. My favorite band is constantly changing. Lol
I remember sitting in your van in front of Zeppelins listening to Accept on cassette. I always liked your guitar style but it was the voice and Craig on drums that made Crowbar my favorite.
Amazing!!!!!! . It's Like hanging out with kirk for 10 minutes... he's such a genuine guy... we go to every show in ontario canada. Love ya big dog the planets collide riff was amazing. Was biting my lip waiting for a little high rate extinction. Hit the bottom of my first beer hours ago. Thank-you for everything you do. This Bud's for you!!!!
WOW!! Watching/listening to this interview was really cool for myself because Kirk’s youth & how he got into music & how he learned on guitar & what not was pretty much %100 the same as myself with learning by ear except i was learning on bass guitar with my 4&5-string bass guitar & i remember trying to learn songs & i’m from the no internet era as a kid & young teenager & learning songs for myself was with my little ghetto blaster that had two tape decks & there was a lot of stop… rewind… pause… see if i got it correct lol & then fast forward to another piece & do the same thing all over again lol, but looking back as frustrating as it was to learn by ear like that was an incredible talent to have as i later found out instead of learning to read sheet music in which i did try to learn after learning by ear for years as I thought learning to read sheet music would be a huge asset to learn as well + being able to learn by ear but that didn’t last long as i got frustrated with it & just settled on learning by ear or by watching someone playing it. & normally people join or form a cover band to start out with which is a good thing to do obviously but i was to impatient to learn songs as well as my two other buddies who i would jam with & then finally my other buddy joined who was a drummer & instead of us doing the cover band thing we started to write our own music in which turned out to be a good thing as we practiced & practiced until gaining enough confidence to play at our high school talent show where we played 3 of our own songs & 1 cover song which was by the Canadian rock band called,”54•40” & the song is called,”crossing a canyon” which was only 1 of 3 cover songs we ever did. Anyways enough blabbering from me lol & listening to Kirk here like i said really hit home with me as Kirk learned pretty much the same way i did & Kirk is roughly 10yrs older than me so we pretty much grew up on the same kind of music etc. Kids nowadays have it much easier with learning songs with TH-cam & many other options such as paying a guitar, drum or vocal etc teacher on line & learn over the internet by a web camera. I use TH-cam all the time to learn songs or practice methods. Kirk is also one badass dude & a very down to earth guy just like my favourite band(s) which is “Carnivore” & “Type O Negative” which i know Kirk is a big fan of both bands & it's so cool that Kirk has the green “Type O Negative” tattoo logo on the top of his left hand \m/
Look closely at the cover of his solo album he's talking about in the video... the way the words are positioned on the album cover.... does that look farmiliar at all 😁😄
Kirk is a much better player than this would suggest. He's a killer. Maybe just a little off here. Matt Pike's episode was the same. He is a crushingly good player but was super shaky on his. The low budget practice amp does not service tho these either.
Love Kirk, all these hipsters dissing KISS but loving Crowbar, love the fact that Kirk really loves KISS like i do. And also loves Motörhead and St Vitus like i do. Loves all the good stuff not only the popular stuff. Also down to earth guy, with more heart than his voice or rawness of playing makes it appear

His voice is permanently in B standard
Him and Phil Anselmo need to have a conversation!

Artificial Insolence they did now we have a Down stream next week for nola 25th anniversary..
"Planets Collide" is such an amazing song, among my faves from Crowbar.
Hands down their best song! I love sever the wicked hand too! Crowbar is the shit

@The Ninth Heart So what?
Yeah thats a incredible song !!
The power of the riff compels him.

Riff Wizard!

He is the wizard of sludge.
Judeo-Cajun Voodoo man.
Inspired many modern bands. Crowbar is the reason I started playing the guitar.
Good to see the riff lord!
I would kill for a podcast with Kirk Windstein, Phil Anselmo and Matt Pike. They could read a phonebook, I wouldn't care.
YES. Just perfection
you think phil could keep himself from getting drunk and saying a bunch of racist shit for 15 minutes?
The only difference in voices would be accents haha
Loudwire make it happen pls
THIS!! Yes please I hope this becomes a thing!

For some reason I really want to hear him say "Hey kids, want some weed?"
He did say it in an ad actually go check it out

I wanna here him doing Mick from Rocky. Telling Phil "yer gonna eat lightning and crap thunder"
Kirk came from the same place as the rest of us. Sabbath/UFO/Kiss/ Accept....and even the Trouble "The Tempter"... Awesome stuff

The first riff I ever played was Smoke on the Water on the low E just like him! Then learned it later the right way. Weird
Thats honestly how a lot of people start tbh. It's either the first I learned or in the first 5
