You are so entertaining ...You talk like I'm right there with you. You have also helped me a LOT in my new old Rover series 3. Little old lady living in Cocoa Beach , Florida who loves working on her rover.
Mike, can I make a suggestion? When your talking into the camera, it's great , I hear everything. When you do work outside or wander away from the camera while talking, I can barely make out what your saying. Perhaps one of those separate fluffy clip on Microphones would be better 🤔. Just saying.
@@BritannicaRestorations thank you so much!! For completeness, it‘s: Number 6 x 1/2inch or 3.5mm x 12mm You can use regular Philips or Pozidrive - but nothing more than 12mm
Not so perfect timing. Just done mine ha ha! Nice video Mike - thought that the older Defenders had a screw on winder handle rather than the spring clip - you made taking the spring clip off look bloody easy - mine was a bugger.

Eagle beaks? Never heard that one before, pump pliers over here. I often thought the design of the LR was the result of make do and mend from the war yrs, everything was whittled down to the basics, with minimalist design and application. At the beginning of WW11 for instance the Spitfire was a precision built machine by the end it was as rough as a badgers ar*e. When I started my apprenticeship back in 1980 all the old boys in my place were war veterans and they had that make do and mend attitude no such this as the consumer society back then. Some of the old cr*p I had to deal with. We had this big old lathe that Noah had owned, it was as loose as a pr*ck in a bucket. We repaired stuff that should have been skipped, it used to come back to the shop like a boomerang, you would be standing on the shop floor the big double wooden doors would open and your heart would sink " Not that f***ing thing again"............good old days, ummm debatable. We did have some laughs there was this old Yorkshireman fitter, at lunch he would go to the pub across the road they would have four pints lined up for him on the bar and he would down the first three like they were water; on an empty stomach. He would come back half-cut put a tape on his deck in the workshop, loud as you like playing some country and western dross and singing along, his favourite default track especially after the pub had a chorus that went something like " you can take your job and shove it" they took the radio off him in the end.
The membrane is there to stop water from leaking into the cabin when it goes between the glass and the seal during a rain storm. BMWs have that problem where the door fills with water and doesn't drain fast enough sometimes because of junk in the drain holes. If you don't have the membrane, the carpet gets soaked.
7:37 .... I have no idea how you managed not to drop the whole blinking box when that clip jumped out onto the floor ...I would be picking stuff up for days. Key doesn't lock your door? ..... get the MIG welder out! Typical Landrover 😀😀😂😂
hello Mike. greetings from england, if they had stuck to the original sliding windows like the series l/rovers had you would not have to go through all this balarny. good luck,
Another very handy video, thanks Mike. Btw the dash rocker switches, can you satisfy my curiosity please. The group of three on mine are the standard heated screen, fog and hazard but under my clock/ heater slider diagram there is and empty switch hole, on your white one I saw a switch, what's it normally for?
About the door card. What do you do when the plastic base in which you should put the screw is missing. I did not find a new base. Can this be ordered?
You cannot buy any parts for the door card except for the fir tree clips MXC1800 If the base onto which these clips attach is missing, you could try repairing with epoxy
One question sir…! Did you really say…quote: „I have to get my prick out“ … and NOBODY thought to comment on that ..?😂😂😂 … One technical question however… Why not put sound insulation into the doorframe, while you have everything taken apart …?
It appears you have the same problem as I have.... your hands are too big... so when you put them in a small area to work you can't see what you are doing.....
Mike! you are making Horror movies...(24:29) For a while you had me going , when your drill bit was slowly but surely getting close to piercing your palm :-) Ya , you said: Dont drill the hand , but that is not how things works in the real world.

"I'll just get my prick out again" is not something I expected to hear on a video about fixing old Landy doors, but there you go.
I really like my prick - in fact I have several!!
Well done Mike.
Who could not like this video.
Perfect timing ! got to take a door card off this weekend. Thanks.
Rock on!
I'll tell you why you set the window winder at a jaunty downward angle - So that it doesn't wear a groove in the outside of your bloomin knee :)
Nice to hear you've made such a big impression on yer neighbours Mike.
"Mike who?"
Thanks for the "inside" information mate...
Glad you enjoyed it
It never, ever, ever ends. Ever. At least it keeps me out of the bar! 😂
Brilliant, thanks Mike

I did buy one and tried it but it seemed to be in mono - (and it was not cheap) I could hear it but some could not on playback
The same guy must have designed the door on my early MGB. It needed a weld in the same place.
Could you may tell me the dimensions/screw type which is needed to fix the holdings for the door card?

I use the yellow duster method to remove those spring clips 😊
Was a bugger last week as it was 37c+ and very humid -70%

Do you have a video on replacing the latch assembly?
hello Mike. greetings from england, if they had stuck to the original sliding windows like the series l/rovers had you would not have to go through all this balarny. good luck,
Except you have to have a very small head to get it out of the window..
Have you done a video on how to set up the linkages on those door locks? What’s the threaded twiddling rod for? Thanks.
You bet
@@BritannicaRestorations thanks do you know the title of the video, I’ve done a search but can’t find it.

It is an accessory switch - can be used for anything
I noticed you welded the door lock area. Is this steel or aluminum? Did you use flex core weld wire? Thanks
Steel - regular MIG with gas
@@BritannicaRestorations I have a flex core welder. Do you think that would work? thanks so much. love and appreciate your videos.
yes
Hi Mike talking about doors im building a 1985 110 will the puma door cards fit my doors ?
They almost fit - you may have to grind a bit off in places and have gaps in others - the mid-doors are the worst as the Puma is more rounded

Are the latch assembly common for failing? My latch is not holding and the door pops adjar all the time?
Yes, they become weak after many years - a new one will sort it out
