Another tip that I got from another TH-camr was to put a conditioning cap on after the leave-in but before the styler. Leaving the cap on for 10-15 minutes allows your body heat to open your hair shaft to allow the leave-in to penetrate into the hair before you add the styler. It works for me.
I use the Aunt Jackies hair milk, argan oil Eco styler, and sweet almond oil or jojoba to break the cast. My wash and go's come out moisturized and defined.
@lqj After you apply gel (especially one with a firm hold like this eco styler) your curls get hard and a little crunchy. Breaking the cast is scrunching the oil into your curls to make them soft but still defined.
I add water to all of my products because my hair does like heavy stuff. And I noticed that everytime I used cold water on my hair it made it brittle af. But when I use warm it made my hair feel so soft.
For my low porosity hair..HEAT, everything as warm as I can stand! No butters or creams watery products 30 seconds in the microwave . This works foe my hair.
I was thinking I wouldn't put oils etc in microwave for the same reason I try not to use microwave for food. Micowaves remove nutrients from food. Thats why oven or the hob is better for food, I'm going to start heating my conditioners and oils on the hob on low or in the oven 😊
@@andreamorgan111 microwaves don't remove nutrients from food. if you heat food too high for too long then you may break down proteins and vitamins in your food, but the amount of water used during cooking/boiling food, or the water already present in your food/veg is the most important factor in nutrient loss.
I recently found out that my hair was low porosity. My hair turns hard when using anything with protein in it. When I started using the new shea moisture line for low porosity, it was a game changer for me. They don't have a deep conditioner yet so for now I just use the conditioner and add oils to it as a deep conditioner.
ross shopaholic I bought the shampoo and conditioner 2 months ago but, haven't used them yet. I was scared they may not do anything for my hair but, your comment made me feel better.
I recently found out too that my hair is low porosity and today bought the Shea Moisture Shampoo, Conditioner and treatment masque. Previously, I was using the Cantu Range, but found my hair wasn't retaining any moisture at all. As soon as I was outdoors, within a few hours my hair would be a frizzy ball!! I really hope these new products work, as they are pretty expensive to keep trialing new products!
ThatChickKim go try them. I bought the low porosity shampoo and conditioner today and washed my hair. Feels real soft now that its twisted and dried naturally. I also bought the As I Am "so much moisture hydrating lotion" for daily use. Need to see how I get on over the next week..
ross shopaholic sane thing happened with me. I think I have some protein overload from putting so many products and oils in my hair. I was doing the methods wrong. Instead of doing the LCO I was doing the LOC method.😭😭
ABSOLUTELY TRUE about shampooing... For the first time in 2 years yesterday I used shampoo. I kept wondering why my wash n' go's would never come out right. Well, I shampooed my hair yesterday and used 1 leave-in conditioner (usually I use 2), my hairfinity oil and eco styler gel, and the result was my first ever successful wash n' go. I stumbled upon this video, which confirmed why my wash n' go came out so beautiful. Before my curls looked uneven, although my hair was cut even at the salon professionally. My hair had major shrinkage on one side while the other looked stringy, weighed down, and dried out, making wash n' go's for me impossible. I now realize that I had major buildup going on from the constant co-washing of my low porosity hair. So with that said, I am glad to have incorporated shampoo back into my wash routine. Thanks for the research and wealth of natural hair knowledge. 😘
Mud washes are a game changer for me. In fact, I consider it both a wash and a deep conditioner. As far as leave ins, I no longer use if. I go straight to a Gel like kinky curly curling custard and then go back seal each section with almond Oil. This may sound completely against what other Naturals do, but this is what has worked for me for the last 6 years. The reason I think mud washes work is because the ph level is higher and that allows the cuticles to lift in the hair and moisture or water is able to get in the strands. I can feel and see my hair taking in the Moisture. It is hanging lower and not sticking up in the air and the curl definition is at its peak. I use Terressential hair mud wash in lemon scent. Before I use the mud wash I use a shampoo to get rid of the build up. The mud wash will not get rid of build up alone. That is why a shampoo has to be used. I use argan oil organixs because for some reason it helps my hair receive in more moisture. Once the Gel cast is broken I have really curly shiny and soft hair that needs very little moisture throughout the week because once the moisture is in low porosity hair it retains it for a while. I'm not saying this method works for everyone but for me it has been a game changer. The final thing is this, the more i used the mud wash, the more I noticed more curl definition and shine and softness even in those areas I have little to no curl definition.
Hi Amber, doesn't fine low poristy hair like light proteins at least low on the ingredients list and a protein treatment at Least every now and then. My leave in Conditioner has no protein in it is, is it still recommended not to use leave in Conditioner?
@@gingercameronfordcrouch7057 no I think she is saying you can use a leave in if you find one that doesn't overload on protein....what leave in do you have with no protein?
Yep. I have used leave-ins for natural hair, and whenever I did, my hair would become brittle and hard. I stopped using them after. They're just sitting on my dresser. Don't know what to do with them.
LMAO 😂🤣😆😄😃 your reaction to that fly was priceless...absolutely priceless. Oh my gosh that was what I needed!!! I busted out laughing. That was what I was dealing with 2 days ago except it was with a mosquito. These little bugs bring out the most anger and rage. 😂😂
Be careful with these changes to your routine because your hair didn't get waist length because you were doing the WRONG things. Go slow. So many times we see youtubers reach great lengths and then start experimenting and next thing you know they're having to start over.
Thanks. And I agree, but length doesn't always mean health.. or even optimal health. While my subscribers can SEE my hair. It's only for a few minutes in an edited video. And you can't FEEL it. The reason I make checks and balances with my hair when I feel like it's lacking something.. in this case, lack of moisture. So while I wouldn't completely change what I do... I know when my hair needs certain things.
I have low porosity hair that is protein sensitive. Kinky curly knot today fora leave in and grape seed oil for a light oil. Also always using heat when deep conditioning helps a lot like a hooded dryer or warming cap
pats cookie I haven't found a staple product yet :/ lol but I pick up those 1$ packets of deep conditioners from target. If you know any goods one please share lol!!!
Thank you. I'm learning more about my hair. I get build up so quickly! Like two days after I scratch my scalp and stuff is under my nails 😓. Co-washing has never worked. I still don't know what I'm doing quite yet, but I finally feel less lost.
The Lotta Body Curl and Style Milk has always been good to me, even better than many more expensive brands. It's my tried and true. Great information, cousin!!
You are like so right!!! I had to stop following hair types. I only use a hand full of products now verse when I was following hair types using at least 10. I also want to give a tip, if you already know about this, then, good for you! For those of you, that have to untangle your hair, do it in the shower with warm water. The weight of the water untangles your hair better than any product and it stays untangle to the next wash day.
Patricia Rice maybe you're using the wrong products for your hair. Are you low or high porosity? Once I realized I'm low porosity I've been getting better results. You have to deep condition often and let it sit for awhile. What conditioner are you using?
I always washed my hair with hot water because it feels good up until recently when I really started to focus on growing my hair and I thought it was damaging, but what really helps my to get the moisture to stay in is to plat my hair and tie it down at least for a few hours after I put the moisturiser in it
So, I have low porosity hair (my hair floats on top during the water test). But it takes color easily and products don't sit on top (anymore). Using hot/warm water changed my life, though, and my coils look better when leave-ins are applied on dripping wet hair. I also swear by products with glycerin, honey, avocado anything (oil or butter) and aloe Vera. Liquid products don't work as well as creams, for me, but Idon't pile on creams or my hair will never dry and ,will stay with white residue! I wash twice a week because, yes, I get product build-up. I use shampoo once and a co-wash (Shescentit only) or DevaCare No-Poo for the mid-week wash. I deep condition twice a week. Hair milk is too light for me. Perhaps my hair is normalizing? It was all kinds of high when I first went natural, but now that I'm almost at the 7 month mark, it takes moisture so much better, especially water!!!!!!
Joyce Jackson I was told to use the LCO method on low porosity hair. So the milk would be your leave-in, whatever is your styler, and then your oil (to lock it all in). That's what I'm going to do tomorrow after I shampoo my hair.
Pam Johnson with their line I use the white peony spray the avocado hair milk and my grape seed oil mixture for the lco method and it's made a huge difference for me
Squeeze your low porosity hair to get it completely saturated with water and squeeze some/most of it out before applying product so the product can actually penetrate the strand better! This and the warm water hack have changed my life!
Yessss.... love this video! Like you I knew a lot of this and I found that watery based leave-ins work best for me. I've even skipped a leave-in and went straight to gel and my hair loved that, but I knew not putting a barrier between would not be good long term. I'm definitely going to look into Hair Milks as well and see how they do. Thanks for this! 😊
Braxton Payne So true ... For the "L" I use water ... Then a cream and an oil (LCO method) .. I haven't found the right leave in condish or hair milk - they seem to dry my hair out 😕
Sharonda Shariee I do that too. I use the KC curling custard without leave in bc it really locks in the moisture (which is water) and my hair looks fantastic. I haven't gone back to leave in bc my hair is very moisturized with that particular gel. And I wash my hair on Sundays and Wednesdays
I've been using the mane chice easy on the curls shampoo & conditioner , Shea moisture JBCO leave in & treatment mask, & always sitting under the drying when I deep condition & it's been doing WONDERS !!! ...My hair has been LOVING it.
Hair Mary you are absolutely true about the warm water, my hair feel so much better when I use it. Also about the conditioners and protein overload, I hard to learn the hard way once it was a mess! Thank you so much naturalista!
Once, long before I was even thinking about embarking on my natural hair journey and I would give my hair a break from the creamy crack, I went to a hairdresser. She thought it a good idea to give my hair a protein treatment instead of an oil treatment. I didn't know yet that I have low porosity hair and that my hair was sensitive to protein. OMG, my hair turned out "hard", stiff, I tell you. She could hardly blow dry it in a style. That was a very big lesson I learned about my hair. I do give my hair a protein treatment every once in a while but I make sure to give it a good deep conditioning, too. In fact, I deep condition on a weekly basis. Warm water is one of my hair's best friends.
The fly scene almost caused a situation! I had a stiff clay masque on my face. I laughed and you almost made half of my face crack off! LOL! The voice switch up was nice too.
I started using Carols Daughter Hair Milk, by accident really... and as I learn more about being a low porosity girl, I love my hair milk, a staple in my new routine!
yes!! an all out op yo bottom product list video for low porosity hair. currently transitioning from being relaxed for one year. I was natural for a year but always dealt with not able to keep my hair moisturized so I relaxed but I miss my coils and willing to give my coils another try.
Well...you just solved the mystery for me. I too am low porosity. I always wash my hair with shampoo and warm water. I also discovered the warm water on accident when I refilled my water bottle with warm water and noticed that for once I wasn't drowning in water. Lol. The water stayed in my hair instead of me becoming drenched. I was using carol's daughters hair milk at one point which I loved. I have it in my stash though. I'm using obia naturals now as a leave in and really like it. I will try some of the other tips.
I do use the warm water. I just now for the first time didn't use a leave in just two days ago. I used the As I Am So Much Moisture and pink eco Styler Gel and I love it! I shampoo now rather than co-wash. I use to use glycerin but I stopped. Gotta go back to that. I have low porosity hair as well.
Hey girlie, I have low porosity hair and I didn't know that hair milk was good for that but about 6 months ago I started using she's moisture hair milk and I noticed a difference in my hair right away! it felt softer, moisturized and manageable! Who knew that was the reason why..lol
You cracked me up about the hair milk. I really like using hair milk under my gel, and I've had friends laugh at me for doing it. I pretty much just ignore them because it works for me. Leave in was a newer thing for me, and I started using it from watching YT videos. I used to us hair milk all the time with and without gel. My hair is softer, shiner, and more fluffy with hair milk than with leave in. I like As I Am moisture milk, Mielle organics moisturising hair milk, Garnier Anti humidity smoothing milk, Camille rose curl love moisture milk, Carol's daughter original hair milk, and if your okay with shea moisture (cuz well, you know) coconut and hybiscus curl and style milk. I have alot of others that I like, but this list would be even way longer. lol
I have LPorosity and warm water washing with shampoo and then rinsing the deep conditioner with cool water gives me amazing curl definition. I steam while deep conditioning, that has changed my hair game for the better. Umm I only use water based leave in now because omg that's butter in my hair... like water bottle leave in conditioners... then add a butter to seal it in bc it's thick but lightweight on the strands...so far so good!
Hair Mary: I used to use Paul Mitchell's 'The Conditioner' but it seemed to stop working. I remembered my mother using a detangler on my hair when I was little that worked like MAGIC. Now I use Paul Mitchell's 'The Detangler'. In shower, I shampoo, detangle+sunflower oil, then bathe. I rinse out most but not all just before leaving the shower (all warm water). My fine, low porosity hair loves it. I thought I was alone with Mr. Mitchell. I also wash more often during the week (3-4 times) because of build up. Your words here are true and help to make since of my natural hair after experimenting with ALL the other Natural Hair suggestions. When I tried other methods, my hair wouldn't grow because it was dry and would break. Now I am right back to where I started. Thank you. Subscribed!
Thanks so much for the leave in tip! My styles were not holding up at all with it. I actually don't use a leave in at all except water. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! The tip in the shower is also awesome Now I just let the steam reactivate my gel while I wash up put on a plastic cap while I get ready and literally shake and go!
I hate watching most naturals on TH-cam because I feel like they just do stuff to their hair with no thought or reason behind it. It’s really nice to actually see someone who listened and learned about their hair. I’ve been natural and low porosity my entire life and I don’t see any lies.
This video helped a lot. I cut all my hair off because it was too difficult to look after. I couldn't get any moisture in it. Leave ins would just make it greesy but still dry somehow. Because it was always dry, it would knot constantly and every day if have to be spending half an hour to try and brush out the matted hair. (All pretty bad for just type 2 hair...) Now, although my hair is a lot shorter, I don't even need to brush it.
Skip leave in ALWAYS I go straight to Olive and grape seed oil then Shea butter FOR REAL no issues 4c low porosity and protein sensitive deep condition is a must though also my hair loves the gel called EXTREME wet line styling gel not found in the black hair section and it's cheap leaves no residue either no alcohol either don't care about what else is added because I have to use silicones to clean this scalp weekly YEAH ... I wash weekly because it keeps my psoriasis in control GROWING GROWING GROWN ✌
New Sub! I've been wondering why my hair doesn't absorb product like it use to... this natural hair journey driving me crazy! lol. thanks for the info!! 😊😊
I'm low porosity and I shampoo every wash day lol I like knowing my hair is completely clean and product free. Shea moisture, Camille Rose Naturals, and Mielle organics all have great hair milks.
I know am low porosity before I become natural and I try so many things and nothing help but @finally Amber you just because you are the first TH-cam I come across giving so many tips about low porosity now u give me back faith and confident about my low porosity natural hair❤️❤️❤️
I use rose water and water with light oils of my choice as a leave in. Sometimes I switch the rose water for aloe vera because its less expensive. but the rose water makes my hair so soft and it smells really good. my hair loves it. I keep my hair in two strnd twists because I am a Bgirl. Im spritzing my hair with this in the A.M. and after I practice. I found that pushing the product into my hair works really well because of the heat from my hands. so ill spritz a section and then squeeze that section until i feel the hair get really soft. At night I spritz my scalp and hair with water, tea tree oil which is the same spritz I use on my face to help with my breakouts which has solved all my break out problems and has really helped my scalp. Every since I found out I was low porosity My hair has been thankful. I also clarify with clay once a month and with shampoo every week. but now that I spritz instead of directly apply oils.... I only shampoo every 2 weeks. But thats cuz I wear my hair in twist and I have been able to keep them for 2 weeks now that im learning better methods. Im currently trying to find a good styling product for myself.
Tralonda Walker Hi 👋🏾 do you microwave the bottle? Or take some out then microwave? sorry may sound like a stupid question, but just curious how others do it. 😊
Gurl you telling the truth. I have low porosity hair that takes 4ever to dry. It does stay moisturized when I make my own spritz and cream. Thanks for the tip about light products. Heat is our best friend. Thank you sis.
I’ve been natural all of my life but decided to start taking better care of my hair last Sept when i chopped off my damaged ends. Im still learning so much about my hair. I realized my hair doesnt feel or look as good & now i see why, been using the products I shouldnt be using! Lol thanks so much for the tips glad i came across your video will surely let u know if i see a difference!
Girl, you hit so many great points and gave great tips. Thank you so much! I did use a hair milk over 10 yrs and didn't even know I was on to something. I saw that when I rinsed my hair with apple cider it made my curls pop and my hair soft actually and then I would heat my hair mask then rinse it out then shampoo with glycerin/ humectant and then I would warm my elongated product on my hair for about 15 min with my hair in a ponytail to stretch it more then rinse and put a moisturizer. This was working until I added conditioner. So I will go back to milks. Thanks again girl. You're awesome and I subbed
You used the exact same leave-in/gel combo as me except I always put Vatika Coconut oil after leave-in/before gel! Based on what you described, it sounds like my sister's hair which is course but looser than my curl. But she can't just used Paul Mitchell (real nor Generic) and conditioner to get a banging wash and go! She needs an actual heave moisturizer like As I Am of SheaMoisture (both too heavy for me, so I dilute with alittle oil).Anyway. like you, I'm tryna go back to my 2007 routine/products that had me thriving. I swear by HENNA treatments for strengthening and growth! Used to do them every 3-4 months. Suave moisture was my go to for a quick inexpensive curly girl lite (I used shampoo as needed). Elasta QP Mango Butter was my go to moisture for a bun and lastly... IC Fantacia, but they changed up on Me, or my hair don't like Fannie no more!!! 😔
Today I washed my hair and conditioned it with this low-protein low-porosity conditioner I bought on clearance. I had no idea what the porosity of my hair was until I noticed how incredibly well my hair reacted to that conditioner! My hair really ate it up. The label even said it was for "moisture resistant curly hair." I'm so happy I found it. Then I started scrolling through curly hair videos and landed on this one. What are the odds!
I've used Just for Me Hair Milk before. Not a fan of the scent but if it's going to help us LoPo girls, then I'm on it. I totally can relate to being lazy since I've been natural. This is my second time. The first time around I got heat damaged from straightening during an annual length check and had to BC again. That first year I used to wear a new protective style every week. Now I just rock buns or curly ponytails. It was easier when my hair was shorted but I need to do better. My hair should be at least 18" already. Thanks so much for the video. Often I just do what everyone else is doing. Now knowing my hair type, I have to be careful about which trends I follow.
I find that a coconut oil pre-poo actually helps my hair drastically since I stopped co-washing... Yogurt, Henna Gloss, and Honey also helped. I retained even more moisture in my hair when I steamed the product in my hair with my mini travel clothes steamer I purchased from HSN!! My hair is thriving as a result!!
Hair Mary... Your videos are always so informative... Don't you have a video about adding an elastic band to your wig so it'll fit better? I swore you did.. but I can't find it...😫
I use the Paul Mitchell "the conditioner" along with Curls "Creme Brule" and my hair loves it I barely use oils bc I feel like they don't anything to my hair. Oh I also turn my AC off when styling my hair so I don't have to struggle to keep my hair warm.
Ok so I've had to start over with my hair after a salon set back this past November and I've learned that I have low porosity hair. Steam and warm water are my best friend!!! I've been used to using butters and creams and realized I need sprays whips and milks. I made a switch to the mielle organics line and my hair has been thriving!!
Thank you for the tips!!! I will definitely try them. I have low porosity hair and I was my hair with warm water but when I applied my deep conditioner and I don't believe it penetrated my hair. Because after all that, my hair the roots still felt dry after I applied my products and when it was fully dried. I'm definitely going to implement the warm water in the spray bottle. 😊
Yesterday It was my washday. The tip about using warm water while I was moisturizing really helped me. My hair today was soft not dry. I didn't feel the need to moisturize today. It's a game changer.
Is there really a big difference between leave-ins, hair milks and moisturizers? You can get each one of these in varying thicknesses from watery to super thick. I think it's more the companies trying to make us think we need one of all three. This is why we see so many ladies layering 25 products to get a simple wash and go.
Yes there is a lot of difference. Using both a hair milk and a leave-in is absolutely not necessary. Which one you use depends on your hair, but it will consistently love one over the other and absorb one better than the other. We certainly don't need to use many layers of products. Using a leave-in, or hair milk under the right gel should be enough. If we just learn what works for our hair the products the companies put out won't affect our regimes too much.
Najee Basheer it's because hair milk is thin enough to penetrate the hair shaft; as other leave in conditioners r too thick for low porosity hair and some have protein , which if you've got low porosity hair. You really don't too much of that
this is a great reply. I too have low porosity hair and the idea of using a hair milk instead of a leave-in is something I'm going to try because it seems to me that every leave-in I try eventually my hair starts feeling dry with the leave in! Have you ever used Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus hair milk? What do you think about that one?
Penny McConnell it should be fantastic l've heard great things about the mask in the same collection. Its light and good for you. I recommend you give it a try
Just to chime in because I've been doing a lot of research to try and find products (I just recently realized my hair regimen is off becuase i am low porosity) and the Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus hair milk actually does have protein in it. A couple products that seem to have good reviews adn are protein free are the camille rose naturals curl love moisture milk and the lotta body coconut and shea oils moisturize me curl and style milk. Hope this helped! :)
Can you tell me when you spray your hair with this? Is it after the hair milk and before styling with gel? And how often do you use this spray? Also where can I get glycerin?
truwife It's the first thing I put in my hair right after rinsing my deep conditioner out. Then hair milk, oil, styler. I use it every time I wash my hair and anytime I feel like my hair needs to be remoisturized. I did change it up a bit. I use aloe gel instead of aloe juice only because I like the texture but the aloe juice works just fine. I also add a little bit of water and almond oil because I just recently colored my hair. I usually get my glycerin from iHerb but you can also get it from vitamin shoppe, Amazon, and GNC.
Great tips! I’ve incorporated hair milk into my hair regimen -I use Pantene Gold Series hair milk and though I like it I still use a leave in sling with it! My roots are grey and hard to keep moisture in them. Plus I add the buttercream from the Pantene Gold Series. I’ll try your way buuuut...lol.
You just saved my life 💞 I’ve been natural 2 years and couldn’t figure out for my life why my hair was so dry and I finally did a porosity test and found out I’m low porosity now I have to start all over with products thanks hun😘😘😘
You should get the credit for being one of the first one talking about porosity. Now that I bumped into your video, I'm like :"But wait, x/y and z said the same thing" . Only difference, your video was uploaded 4 years ago! Congrats 👏 😊
Girrrll I totally agree on that shampoo part. I always wondered why so many naturalistas co washed their hair because when I did it I always felt like my hair was greasy after washing.
As someone who is also low porosity I love the Shea Moisture JBCO leave in conditioner. It's a light weight product and has HYDROLYZED protein. So the protein molecules are smaller and can fit into the hair shaft. That the only leave in conditioner I use for every style I do (which are mostly twist outs)
I haven't tried hair milk as a leave-in. I swear by As I Am leave in conditioner. I warm water in a plastic container in the microwave. Then, I put the conditioner in the warm water while I finish the rest of my wash day routine. Especially if I put my deep conditioner on in the shower and rinse it out in the sink. That warm leave-in absorbs into the hair leaving it sooo soft.
I think that last tip is true, the leave in never worked for me but when I started using the hair milk my hair feels so much better and it styles better, doesn't feel dry at all.
I just switched back to using hair milks. Oyin hair Dew is the bomb as well as Darcys Botanicals sweet cocoa bean curl smoothing creme. Some of CRN hair products are really good as well.
I've never commented on any other youtube video, but I really want you to know this was so helpful. YOU DESCRIBED MY HAIR TO THE T! Ugh, you just changed my life, thank you so much girl!
Great information! Thank you for clarifying the porosity and hair type. Just some added advice with glycerin, be mindful of the temperature out side of it is cold it will pull cold air to your hair and make our low porosity hair hard.
#LowPorosityGirl I use "Double Butter Cream" from the "As I Am" hair care line. Also it's funny that you mention Hair Milk because growing up my mom always used hair milk and hair lotions on my hair; guess she knew what she was doing. #ThanksMom The only step that she missed back then, that I definitely do now, are deep conditioning (Hair Masks) overnight!
When I realised I was low porosity, and also thought maybe I'm protein sensitive, and I looked at my fave products and I had naturally picked protein free products as my favourites, so I'm pretty sure I am, as these are what work the best for my hair x
The tip about warm water is THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH. when I discovered my low porosity and started using warmer water my wash day became so much easier.
me and glycerin don't get along at all! =(
God damn you have a beautiful hair.
Lady Aleynia thank you!!! =)
Bryson Knoel It was a game changer for me!
Blu2IQ right! Same for me. Everything became easier.
Another tip that I got from another TH-camr was to put a conditioning cap on after the leave-in but before the styler. Leaving the cap on for 10-15 minutes allows your body heat to open your hair shaft to allow the leave-in to penetrate into the hair before you add the styler. It works for me.
Becky Barber yes this definitely works for me as well!! The moisture was amazing, my twists came out so JUICY😍👌
Omg thank youuuuu
I use the Aunt Jackies hair milk, argan oil Eco styler, and sweet almond oil or jojoba to break the cast. My wash and go's come out moisturized and defined.
What is breaking the cast?
@lqj After you apply gel (especially one with a firm hold like this eco styler) your curls get hard and a little crunchy. Breaking the cast is scrunching the oil into your curls to make them soft but still defined.
@@raechelizabeth ok thank you so much but it won't actually absorb in your hair that way, right?
she should have more views she is so cool and genuine.
I have been Natural for 15 years and you just SET ME FREE! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Earthly Bodies Natural Living Peeped your channel - you and your hair are Beautiful
I add water to all of my products because my hair does like heavy stuff. And I noticed that everytime I used cold water on my hair it made it brittle af. But when I use warm it made my hair feel so soft.
omg i've been wasting my money on those heavy product all this while
i thought i need those product because my hair is not absorbing moisture
Efia Serwaa me too girl also hello my fellow sister Ghana for life 🇬🇭🇬🇭 y3 wo krom
Same! I find mango butter works for me though
and i always thought hair milks were just another fancy way to say leave in lol
Girl me too.
me too
For my low porosity hair..HEAT, everything as warm as I can stand! No butters or creams watery products 30 seconds in the microwave . This works foe my hair.
You mean 30 seconds in the mw for your oils and butters?
Shouldn’t put oils or any butters in the microwave
I was thinking I wouldn't put oils etc in microwave for the same reason I try not to use microwave for food. Micowaves remove nutrients from food. Thats why oven or the hob is better for food, I'm going to start heating my conditioners and oils on the hob on low or in the oven 😊
@@mjbridges the radiation kills the good nutrients
@@andreamorgan111 microwaves don't remove nutrients from food. if you heat food too high for too long then you may break down proteins and vitamins in your food, but the amount of water used during cooking/boiling food, or the water already present in your food/veg is the most important factor in nutrient loss.
I recently found out that my hair was low porosity. My hair turns hard when using anything with protein in it. When I started using the new shea moisture line for low porosity, it was a game changer for me. They don't have a deep conditioner yet so for now I just use the conditioner and add oils to it as a deep conditioner.
ross shopaholic
Truth!
ross shopaholic I bought the shampoo and conditioner 2 months ago but, haven't used them yet.
Should u use the mud every time u wash ur hair or just like once a month?
I noticed the leave-in conditioners I was using never helped my hair feel moisturized so I'll take your tip and try a milk ! Thanks!
How did it go?!
Lissa Dorval girl it will turn you into a different person 😂
I needed this video because my hair has been giving me the blues. I've been ready to just get a buzz cut. I'm over it.
I need a list of new products to use on low porosity hair because nothing is working.
Danie Mae Same 😪
Be careful with these changes to your routine because your hair didn't get waist length because you were doing the WRONG things.
Also always using heat when deep conditioning helps a lot like a hooded dryer or warming cap
doshika2dak OMG I use kinky kurly and grapeseed oil too. what do u use for deep conditioning
pats cookie I haven't found a staple product yet :/ lol but I pick up those 1$ packets of deep conditioners from target. If you know any goods one please share lol!!!
doshika2dak I thought I was the only person that uses the packet drop conditioners lol 😂
pats cookie I personally used TGIN honey mask dc. I has honey and evoo which is great for low porosity hair.
pats cookie mixed chicks has the best deep conditioner I think I've ever used and it doesn't take a lot of product
The weight of the water untangles your hair better than any product and it stays untangle to the next wash day.
yes I always untangle in the shower....that was a no brainer for me from childhood...thanks
Hey thanks for this information! I use the Mielle Organics Avacado Hair Milk and I absolutely love it! I hope this helps!
L Nichols I might give that try because I tried Cantu leave in and that was a no and I tried Kinky Curly Knit Today and it didn't help.
care4davis I like kinky curly b I haven't used it for a while. I need to try it again.
care4davis c
why is my hair so dry after being washed
Patricia Rice maybe you're using the wrong products for your hair. Are you low or high porosity? Once I realized I'm low porosity I've been getting better results. You have to deep condition often and let it sit for awhile. What conditioner are you using?
C A Woods when I used the kinky curly, it made it hard for my other products to absorb into my hair. It's strange but I am learning lol.
I always washed my hair with hot water because it feels good up until recently when I really started to focus on growing my hair and I thought it was damaging, but what really helps my to get the moisture to stay in is to plat my hair and tie it down at least for a few hours after I put the moisturiser in it
Does wearing plastic when sleeping damage hair?
TELL IT GIRL! My hair is low porosity and it THRIVES off being drenched in warm/hot water. The curls be pawpin’
Baby! You wrote the low porosity Bible this time! My hair hates leave ins!!! Im about to watch all your videos
Aww thanks boo! Hopefully you subscribe and become my cousin! ❤️😘
@@FinallyAmber i just subscribed and got notifications and im watching videos now!!! Blessings.
Hey i shared this to the Facebook page Curls, Kinks, Fros and me!!
Mielle Organics Avocado Hair Milk is awesome!!
Jasmine Ray yes it's a staple for me
Joyce Jackson I was told to use the LCO method on low porosity hair.
I get the part to squeeze to let the water in, but are you saying squeeze some out to add the hair milk? Can you clarify please!
Yessss.... love this video! 😊
Sharonda Shariee no problem!

Did anyone else hear “warm heat” 😂😂😂
Greta video though, really intuitive
I find that As I am co wash is God sent if I have to cowash for my low porosity hair
Do you HEAT up the hair milk?
Ugh, I have been packing my hair with leave-in, curling cream, oil, all that. I want to try the hair milk thing, but I'm scared *crying face*
My favorite hair milk is Mielle Organics Avocado Hair Milk. I apply it in the shower as a substitute for a leave-in before styling.
yes!! an all out op yo bottom product list video for low porosity hair. currently transitioning from being relaxed for one year. I was natural for a year but always dealt with not able to keep my hair moisturized so I relaxed but I miss my coils and willing to give my coils another try.
Go for it! good luck!
Hair Mary You Should Do 1 For Skin!
I will try some of the other tips.
your literally saving lives. thank you so much for sharing this valuable info. there is hope!!!
I'm glad I can help!
Just dropped my leave-in, in the bin!
new follower alert.
Hey Boo
Hey cousin!
I know am low porosity before I become natural and I try so many things and nothing help but @finally Amber you just because you are the first TH-cam I come across giving so many tips about low porosity now u give me back faith and confident about my low porosity natural hair❤️❤️❤️
would love a product recommendation video... would really help!!!🤗🤗
You have spoken so many truths. I'm a new subbie. Hey cuz. 🤣
My exact thoughts
I went back to using grease to seal the moisture in and I love it
Can you still do the "wash and go" method?
This information is priceless! Thanks for sharing🤗
I warm my conditioner before I apply it.
booboop100 how tho?
I’m a low porosity kid too
@@gabrieljohnson484 microwave 20-30 seconds
Tralonda Walker Hi 👋🏾 do you microwave the bottle? Or take some out then microwave? sorry may sound like a stupid question, but just curious how others do it. 😊
Just started doing this, and WHEW CHILE, the difference...AMAZING!
What are the odds!
what was the stuff you found??
My hair is thriving as a result!!
that's great!
YESSS!!! For that tip about the warm water vs. cool!!!!
I’m low porosity and good old-fashion Pomade, (Dax and Sulfur 8)works for me and my hair is thriving!!!!
Well I guess I have low porosity hair because every point you made I was like "that's me!" lol. Great video and so helpful. New subscriber 😉
Prepoo has helped my low porosity tremendously! I can't imagine a wash day without prepooing
what!! I did not know that I don't need a leave in. I'm blown away. you aren't the only one who needs help then. 😱
I just use aloe Vera and glycerin as my leave-in 🤷🏾♀️
I'm going to try that!
Naturally Quilo do you use aloe gel or juice or does it matter?
Simpli_Nisa I usually use aloe vera juice but, I don't think it should matter
Finally something that made sense. I'm transitioning and didn't know my hair type but now I know. Thank you!
Jill Mayunga co washing is like putting lotion on a dirty body. I’ve never understood it.
Excellent tips! Thanks for your research, and thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Try Giovanni leave in, it's awesome.
Yes!!!! Love giovanni leave in,moisturizing and light weight
FINALLY!! The answer to my prayers 🙏🏽. Thank you!! Now I just need tips to combat thinning due to hormonal changes.
#LowPorosityGirl I use
"Double Butter Cream" from the
"As I Am" hair care line. Also it's funny that you mention Hair Milk because growing up my mom always used hair milk and hair lotions on my hair; guess she knew what she was doing. #ThanksMom
The only step that she missed back then, that I definitely do now, are deep conditioning (Hair Masks) overnight!
When I realised I was low porosity, and also thought maybe I'm protein sensitive, and I looked at my fave products and I had naturally picked protein free products as my favourites, so I'm pretty sure I am, as these are what work the best for my hair x
Your tip about applying moisturizer in the shower has changed my life!
